I slowly open my eyes, only to be met by an unfamiliar ceiling and the sensation of a different mattress. I rise from the bed and look around to see that I'm in some sort of empty room with no windows or doors.
"Where the hell am I?" I look at my hand and clench it and then unclench it. It was unnaturally cold. "Something doesn't feel right..." I look at the white ceiling. "Am I... dead?"
You would be correct.
"Gah!" I get spooked by the sudden voice and jump off the bed. "Wh- Who said that!?"
I did.
The voice was coming from everywhere, even in my own head. "Who are you? What are you? What happened to me? Where is this place!?"
In that order: I do not have a name, I am simply an A.I. created for the sole purpose of helping you in your transition to your new life. You have suffered a heart attack while you were sleeping, your parents found you this morning and took you to the hospital where you were pronounced dead. Finally, you are in the nexus where the earth and the afterlife meet. You were brought here because you were chosen.
My face fell at the news. "Oh, so I really am dead..."
You seem... awfully calm about this, considering the situation.
"Would it be better if I was kicking, screaming, and cursing? It wouldn't bring me back to life. Of course, not counting the shock that's keeping me calm right now." I explained.
As amusing as it would be to watch that happening, I'd rather get this along.
"Get what-"
Congratulations! You have been chosen to be the new host for the Gamer System.
I blink at the reveal. "Gamer System? You mean that gimmick in most fanfictions where the OC gets all these broken skills and abilities along with a harem full of hot babes?" It was a crude summary but I think it covered the term just fine.
Correct. I will guide you through the process so that you can get acquainted with the system.
"Alright, let's get started." A screen suddenly pops in front of me.

"So my first quest is a tutorial quest." I look back and forth. "Um... how do I get started?"
The first step is to open your menu. Simply make a mental command or say "Status"

"Haha! This is awesome!" I exclaimed but then I noticed something. "Why doesn't it say my name? Or my race for that matter?"
All new users must register under a new name and race. If you use your original name, you will experience HELL. Please keep in mind that we are not responsible for any permanent harm that comes to you
Well, that's one way of saying we don't give a damn about your life choices.
The next step is your inventory. Either tap on the bag icon on the screen or simply think "Inventory"
I do just that and the window quickly changes. It now shows a series of empty boxes that hold nothing except for two highlighted ones that have my current clothes. On the left of the screen shows what I have equipped right now.
"This is not too bad." I said as I scroll down on the page.

"One option is visible, while the other three are unknown. What's that about?"
The first icon is self explanatory.
Second is for low-tier entities: Slime, Goblin, Skeleton and so on.
The third is for mid-tier entities: Demi-Human, Dragons, Devils, Angels, etc.
The last one is for high-tier races: Dragon God, Primarch, Outer God, Demon God, High Sephaphin, etc.
These three choices are completely random, so choose on your own merit.
By its logic, humans would be considered a mid-tier race. I can choose Human, or try my luck with the other three. I don't really like taking risks, especially when they're luck based; my luck sucks.
Despite how tempting it is, I'm gonna play it safe and go with [Human].

A universal race, existing across all of time and space. Despite their organic and overall weak appearance, they make up for it with their wits, tenacity, and overall stubbornness. A jack of all trades. They are creatures of great compassion and great violence. Their true potential, however, lies in their ability to learn and understand, as the strongest and most intelligent of the species can turn the tables on the most powerful of opponents.

Huh, I did not expect there to be racial stat bonuses. This could be helpful, especially when I'm powerful. Though I still have doubts, at least I know what I'm dealing with.
Lastly is character creation. This is where you will create the body that will house your soul for the foreseeable future. You will be reborn into the world you've chosen, during that time a pseudo-personality will protect it until you awaken.
I nod and the screen changes to show the diagram of a human body alongside several icons that will allow for customization. After a few minutes, I closed the window satisfied with the change.

Well... that's going to be a problem. There aren't a lot of things that piss me off. Annoyed, yes, but not angry. It's going to be a bitch to handle and the fact that it shuts off [Gamer's Mind] doesn't make me feel any better.
The only upside is the insane buff it gives when you get mad, so that's a good enough reason to keep it around.
The Gacha Token is a golden ticket with a capital "G" in the center. I was tempted to use it now but decided to put it on hold for later.
"So now that that's over, what else is there left to do?"
All that is left now is to select which universe you desire to reincarnate in.

A world where the supernatural still roam the modern world, where humans can use special artifacts known as "Sacred Gears".
If selected, you will start as a transfer student in Kuoh Academy where the Devils reside.
Overlord
The Overlord of Death leads his followers to conquer the New World.
If selected, you will star in YGGDRASIL.
Persona 5
Summon Personas to fight Shadows, improve Social Links, and become the Trickster that will save the world.
If selected, you will start as a second year transfer student in Shujin Academy alongside the protagonist.
Pokémon
Capture Pokémon to battle for you, collect gym badges and complete your Pokédex on this adventure.

Second Impact has changed the world drastically and now, 15 years later, the world is at risk again as the Angels return.

I blink a few times as I read the names of each universe. "Why are these all... fictional?"
The multiverse is infinite with equally infinite possibilities. What one may consider fiction in one universe is real in the other. As long as you keep an open mind, you should be able to grasp these concepts.
I look at the list and begin to ponder who to choose. RWBY is a good one. The world of Remnant is interesting, and the title characters even more so. Fate and DxD are good choices, if you're looking for a harem of beautiful and sexy ladies. Overlord has an interesting magic system and considering how under leveled the New World is making it the perfect place to do level farming. Bleach and Naruto are anime everyone watched as kids, it could be fun to get a Zanpakutō and be a shinobi but beyond that, I don't see anything that'll keep me interested. Borderlands, Pokémon and Persona, great games and it could be blast being part of their stories.
Evangelion? Yeah, no. Too many psychological issues that I can't begin to comprehend and manipulative sociopaths out to make everyone's lives miserable for the sake of their selfishness. If it was some other mecha anime, I would reconsider it.

I downloaded a copy of my program into your System. It will help you on your journey into the new world. It will regulate the pseudo-personally and will awaken you when the time is right. Are you ready?
I nod. A hissing noise can be heard and when I turn, a section of the wall breaks down revealing a blinding light. I cover my eyes as I approach the light, it was so blinding I could go blind if I even dare to open them. I enter and vanish into the portal, not long the wall begins to repair itself, restoring it to what it was before.
