I just want you to know that if things ever feel like they're too much. Please, let me or our friends know. We're here for you.
Tenya closed his eyes, fighting down the guilt that Izuku's words caused him. He knew Midoriya was only trying to help and that his other friends would want to as well if they knew, but this wasn't something he could let them know he was doing. He knew he was crossing a line but he also knew that this was something he had to do. His brother deserved justice, and he had to be the one to bring it. This week might be his only chance. With reports that attacks on heroes were still happening in Hosu City, he had to act now. If he waited, Stain could disappear and he could lose his chance forever.
"Attention, we are arriving at Hosu Station."
With that announcement from the intercom Tenya steeled himself for what was to come.
When the train came to a stop, Tenya exited onto the platform and made his way towards the main lobby. Sprinkled throughout the crowd, Tenya noted several uniformed heroes. Much more than what would be normal. Obviously he wasn' the only one coming to the city on the lookout for Stain. News reports had said that the Hero commission was mobilizing to find the hero killer.
Unconsciously, Tenya's grip on his briefcase handle tightened. With this many heroes in the city, the odds of one of them finding Stain first before him was starting to go up. Odds that would only get worse as some of the top ten heroes finally arrived.
If they get to him before me, they'll only arrest him...if that happens then Tensei won't get the justice he deserves.
"Iida!"
Jolted from his thoughts, Tenya looked up to see a man in a bright blue costume waving at him and pushing his way through the crowd. Tenya refocused his thoughts, he wasn't going to be able to do anything just yet after all and bowed in greeting to the pro hero "Manual, thank you so much for your internship offer. I will be in your care."
"Please, no need to be so formal. In fact I'm the one that's feeling grateful. Truthfully I wasn't expecting anyone to accept my offers, so to get two acceptance letters back was a happy surprise."
Tenya froze, not sure he had heard that right, "I'm sorry? Two acceptance letters? Who-?"
Tenya was cut off when Manual bagan waving again, though his attention was behind Tenya this time when he spoke, "Ah! Toga! Over here!"
Whirling around, Tenya was shocked to see Himiko walking up behind them. A bright smile on her lips and when she briefly looked at him, a glint that made Tenya very nervous, "T-Toga? You're here?"
"Oh wow! Hi Tenya. I had no idea that you'd picked Manual as your hero to intern under. What are the odds of us both picking the same guy?"
Himiko knew she was laying on the nice and innocent act a little thick, but it was the best thing she could do to stop herself from doing what she really wanted. Taking her costume briefcase and smacking Tenya upside the head for the next twenty minutes for being such an unbelievable idiot.
Manual glanced between the two, "You two didn't know the other had picked me?"
"No. No I didn't," Tenya said, doing his best not to start panicking.
"Nope. No idea whatsoever." You could fill a jar with all the honey dripping from Himiko's voice.
"Wow, what an incredible coincidence," Manual said with a smile, "Well come on you two. My agency isn't that far. We can grab a bite to eat on the way."
Himiko quickly fell in with Manual and Tenya and the three made their way out of the station. Tenya for his part did his best not to let his own inner feelings show, keeping a calm appearance, but inside he was panicking. Things were going to be difficult enough only having to worry about Manual catching on to the real reason he was here and worse yet, trying to prevent him from bringing Stain down if he did find him. Now he also had to worry about making sure Himiko stayed none the wiser.
She got thousands of internship application requests. Why, why did she have to pick Manual's. It makes no sense. It. Makes. No. Sense.
While Tenya tried to deal with everything, a cold chill ran up his spine making him look up. It had to be his imagination but he swore, he swore that someone was watching him. As Tenya glances around he missed the pair of bright yellow eyes that were trained on him when neither he or Manual was looking.
"And here we are! Ketsubutsu Academy," Ms. Joke proudly declared as she stepped out of her car. "It's here we train the future generation of heroes all the important things they'll need to know going forward. How to save people. How to stop villains, and how to crush U.A. any chance they get."
Hitoshi looked over at Ms. Joke, tired eyes twitching, then back at the school. The students walking around were dressed much plainer than what he was used to at his school. His school uniform stood out, and was already attracting some curious looks, "Greaaaaat. I've been sent here to die, haven't I?"
Ms. Joke slapped a hand over her mouth as she started to laugh, "Pfft! Oh man you have the same great sense of humor Eraser has. Oh you and I are going to get along so well. Now come on, lunch period for my class is just about over. This is the perfect chance to introduce you to them all."
Rubbing his brow, and kicking himself for not bringing some tylenol for all the headaches he was sure to have over the week, Hitoshi pulled his things out of the car, "So I'm not going to get jumped the moment I step foot inside that school right?"
"Ha ha ha! You're a riot kid. Now come on, let's get you introduced."
Hitsohi frowned when Mr.s Joke just started walking off, not answering his question at all. Walking down the halls, more and more students stopped to whisperer, point or just openly gawk at him. It was getting to the point that Hitoshi was convinced that if he had worn his hero costume he would get less attention. Soon enough, with Ms. Joke pulling him along, Hitoshi was pushed into a class room marked 2-2.
She teaches second years? Maybe I will actually learn something here.
"My students will be here shortly. Just find a corner and I'll do all the talking."
Nodding, and deciding not to bring up that all she had done since he'd met her is talk, Hitoshi found a corner as waited. Soon after he had, students began to trickle in. The first batch that came in had about the same reaction as many of the other students at the school. Dumbfounded stairs were a given. This time however, there was a slight edge to the looks as well. Hitoshi wondered if Ms. Joke hadn't been joking about teaching the students in the hero course to crush U.A. Hitoshi didn't feel like he was in danger, and the edge did not come off as angry or violent. Competitive was the best word that came to Hitoshi's mind.
After only a few minutes the class was filled and Hioshi found himself in front of many second years that were looking at him and examining him for some clue as to why he was there. Hitoshi didn't know either so no one was any closer to getting any answers. Finally a boy, that Hitoshi swore looked like an older and slightly edgier Izuku, raised his hand, "Fukuado sensei. Can you tell us what's going on?"
"Yes I can Shindou. But first, just a quick show of hands. Who here watched the Sports Festival?"
A sea of hands raised up, and Ms. Joke nodded in approval, "Good. Now how about the first year's Sports Festival?"
All the hands stayed up, "Great! Now this young man was at the sports festival. Who here remembers him?"
The students looked at Hitoshi, who just looked back. One by one, hands began to drop until after a few seconds only a few students still had their hands up, making Hitoshi grumble under his breath.
"A quick refresher then, this young man is Shinso Hitoshi. He actually made it to the third round of the day, but got curb stomped in his first match."
"I was not curb stomped," Hitoshi said as he came to his own defense.
"Really," Yo, the same boy that had raised his hand before, said with a chuckle, "What do you call getting knocked out like that then?"
"Annoying."
Ms. Joke burst into a giggling fit while a handful of students chuckled at Hitoshi's answer. Getting some control over herself, Ms. Joke continued on, "Now, let's get to the meat of the issue. To answer everyone's question. Right now, U.A. 's hero classes have started their internships and Shinso here will be interning with me."
"Wait, is he going to be taking classes with us?"
"Isn't that a little weird?"
Ms. Joke shook her head, "No, no. He's not here to take classes. He's here because he sucks at using his own Quirk."
"Hold it," Hitoshi cut in as he moved off the wall, "I use my Quirk just fine!"
"That's not what Eraser told me."
"Huh?"
Ms. Joke ignored Hitoshi and turned back to her class, clapping her hands together to make sure she had everyone's attention, "Okay so here's the deal. Shinso's Quirk is Brainwashing. He can take control of a person's body. That's a pretty useful Quirk, I think we can all agree." The students in the room all nodded their heads and Ms. Joke continued on, "However during his fight, he still got beat. Anyone want to guess why?"
There was a pause as the class considered this and then several hands shot up. Ms. Joke pointed to a student who answered, "His Quirk requires a trigger of some kind. He lost because he wasn't able to get the trigger to go off."
"Exactly. His opponent knew exactly how his Quirk worked and because of that, Shinso lost."
The class's attention shifted back towards Hitoshi, "Is your Quirk's trigger difficult to use?"
"I have to have someone respond to something I say," Hitoshi clarified. When the class was silent, Hitoshi felt himself start to get uncomfortable, "What?"
"That's it?"
"Wait there's no, 'and then' after that? That's super easy to pull off."
Ms. Joke stepped in, "Nope. That's it."
"...Wow you do suck."
Hitoshi was back to rubbing his brow and grumbling under his breath While Ms. Joke continued on, "Shinso here needs to get some experience using his Quirk against people who know what it is. He also needs to learn different ways to get people to respond to him. Both cases he'll work on here. For the latter, I was asked to help because no one's better than me in getting people to react," the class nodded at this. Ms. Joke's Quirk, Outburst, had to get someone laughing to work after all. "Shinso relies on insults to get people to respond to him. I'm going to teach him there are other ways to get a response."
Hitoshi did not like where this was going, "Wait what do you mean?"
Ms. Joke smiled, "Know any good knock knock jokes?"
Oh dear god.
"As for the former issue. He'll need practice against people that know what to expect, which is where you all will come in. I will be handing out these red permanent markers to everyone. You must have them on your person at all times. Shinso is going to try and make you draw on yourselves with them. At any point he has free range to try and use his Quirk. Doesn't matter if you're in the middle of a lesson, eating your lunch, changing in the locker rooms or using the restroom. While you're here, it's open season."
Hitoshi crossed his arms as he thought over this plan. While not a fan at the idea of having to learn comedy, the other part of the lesson made sense. He wasn't always going to have the element of surprise on his side. He was going to need to be able to overcome this issue.
"Oh and one last thing," Ms. Joke added as she started to hand out the markers, "I want to make this as hard as possible, so that means you all need some proper motivation. So surprise! This is a test. Don't get marked up and you get a perfect score. Get marked up and you get a big zero for a test grade."
The mood in the room changed instantly. Hitoshi gulped as now he felt open hostility directed right at him, Well... fuck.
Ochako blinked as she looked down at the address printed out on her paper, then back up at the building she was standing in front of. She had always assumed a hero's agency building was a reflection of themselves. Just like a fully costumed hero stands out in a crowd, their agency would stand out in a city. All Might's agency was a skyscraper, and she had been told about other agencies by Izuku whenever he would go on one of his hero spiels. This building, however, was nothing like she was expecting. It was an old and unassuming three story office building that more resembled a concrete box. Clearly a building built on a tight budget and only for small companies that could only afford the bare essentials. The giant 'for rent' sign out front made it pretty clear that no company was currently occupying the place, or maybe Ochako thought, no one had ever used it.
This is really weird. But this is the address. Better go inside and see what's what at the very least.
Folding the paper away, Ochako walked inside and confirmed right away that the building was indeed an empty office building. The room past the entryway was massive, it was just one big room without any walls. Perfect for setting up cubicles, offices and temporary meeting rooms. While Ochako glanced around, and started wondering if she needed to call the school and make sure she was given the right address, a door on the far side of the room opened up.
"Ah, so you're finally here Uraraka."
Startled, Ochako turned towards the voice, "Oh I'm sorry if I made you wait. I wasn't sure if this was the right building or not." Ochako then bowed her head, "Thank you for your internship offer. I look forward to learning under you Miruko."
"No need to be so formal. Not interested in formalities. So stand up straight."
Ochako immediately did as she was told, and took the chance to get a good look at the professional hero. In the past year, she had had the opportunity to learn under many heroes at U.A and personally train and spend a lot of time under two. All Might and Gunhead. Both were combat heroes that specialized in close range fighting. Both were also tall muscle bound behemoths that absolutely dwarfed her in every way and they were both strong. Ochako however was pretty much just as tall as Miruko was, not counting her rabbit ears of course. So Miruko didn't dwarf her, but there was no mistaking she was trained to fight. Every muscle on the hero looked chiseled from granite and was honed to make her dangerous. But it wasn't those differences that held Ochako's attention. It was something else. There was something more wild about her. All Might had mentioned she was unconventional, more brash than other heroes. Now that she was standing in front of Miruko herself though, All Might's comments didn't do the hero justice. When Ochako finally stopped looking over the hero in front of her, she noticed that Miruko was also and probably had been, looking at her too. Suddenly worried she might be coming off as rude, Ochako was about to apologize but she was cut off, "Oh, and about the building. I don't own an agency since I travel all over the country. So I'm just renting this place for a little bit."
"A-ah! I see."
Miruko eyed Ochako closely, "So what do you think?"
Ochako glanced around the room, "It's um... very spacious?"
"I meant what you were thinking when you were sizing me up."
"GAH," Ochako flinched and turned away. Miruko though wasn't having any of that.
"Don't go acting all ashamed now. You got caught so deal with the consequences. Besides, I never said I was mad about it. Keeping your eyes on your opponent, gauging them is a good skill to have when you're faced with someone stronger than you. Especially in our line of work."
Definitely nothing like All Might or Gunhead.
Turning back to look Miruko in the eye, Ochako answered, "I was thinking you aren't anything like anyone I've trained under before. You're very...wild."
"You mean Gunhead, right?" Miruko said with a smirk. Ochako blinked a few times, startled at the spot on guess but Miruko just waved her surprise off, "You used Gunhead Martial Arts in your matches. He patented his own fighting style so it's obvious to anyone that pays attention."
"Oh! I see." While still a little shocked, Ochako was also a little pleased with herself. If a pro could tell what kind of fighting style she was using then that must mean all the extra practice she had been doing at home had been paying off.
"Anyway, we only got a week together, so why don't we get started," Miruko said as she cracked her knuckles. "You and I are going to spar now."
"Spar? Okay I'll go change into my costume then. Is there a room I can-!"
CRACK!
When Ochako started to look around the large open room, Miruko moved. Ochako hadn't even registered that Miruko had covered the distance between them and drove her foot right into Ochako's stomach. Her kick launched Ochako all the way across the room. Slamming into the ground, Ochako rolled until she hit the far wall with a thud. Laying on the ground, hacking and coughing, Ochako tried to catch her breath and not throw up. Miruko waited for Ochako to recover and after what she figured was enough time, walked over and using her foot rolled Ochako onto her back and then pressed her foot into her chest. Keeping Ochako pinned to the ground and only able to look up at her, "Rule number one. When facing your enemy, don't hesitate."
Through deep breaths and coughs, Ochako tried to ask what just happened but was only able to get out, "that...was...cheap….Why?"
"I told you, we were sparring right now. I didn't say after you changed. I said now."
Ochako did her best to glare up at the hero, which seemed to please Miruko, "Good. I was wondering if what I saw at the Sports Festival was a one and done thing. But it looks like you can get angry more than once." When Ochako's glare turned into a confused stare, Miruko took her foot off Ochako's chest, "Do you want to know why I requested to have you intern with me? Normally, this kind of stuff. Teaching and shit, I don't mess with it. Not my thing."
Miruko crossed her arms watching Ochako pull herself up and sit against the wall, "But then I'm watching U.A.'s Sports Festival. Didn't much care for those first two events, just a bunch of games, but when they said the final event was a tournament I got a little interested. Those first few matches though," Miruko shrugged, "it was just a bunch of kids throwing their Quirks around thinking they're tough shit. Hell, even your first match wasn't anything special. But your second match, against that blonde girl. Now that was something to watch."
Kneeling down, Miruko put herself at eye level of Ochako. Looking her right in the eye and pointing at her for added emphasis, "You went into that match different. You fought differently. Even through a broadcast from the other side of the country, I could see you were driven to do more than just win. You stepped into that ring to utterly destroy your opponent. Didn't matter if she was stronger than you, or more skilled. That fire tipped the balance in your favor."
"That was," Ochako chewed on her words carefully, "something personal."
Miruko frowned, "Clearly. Then of course after that, you lost like a chump. You hesitated and it bit you in the ass."
Ochako looked away. Her loss in the semi finals still stung, and getting called out like this was not helping her keep her composure, "What does any of this have with the reason you sent in that request?"
"Tell me. You ever think about what would have happened if you went into that match, hell all your matches like you did against that blonde?"
"I…" Ochako hadn't. Her hesitation made that very clear to Miruko.
"Odds are, you wouldn't have to settle for a bronze medal. Which brings me back to why you're here. After watching you blow it, I couldn't just sit around risk some other hero getting ahold of you and not dealing with your fuck up. But you are here and I have one week to teach you two things."
"Two things?"
Miruko stood back up and smirked at Ochako like a predator, "Yup. First thing I'm going to do is drill into your head is rule number one."
"When facing your enemy, don't hesitate," Ochako echoed from before.
"That's right. And second, I'm going to rip you open and pull that angry ferocious animal I saw fight to the surface and make it fight. I'm going to do it again and again until you can do it yourself. By the end of this week, how you fought that blonde girl will be your new normal. No more hesitation. No more holding back."
Ochako's heart was racing. Of all the things she had expected to be getting taught this week, this was not it. She had picked a combat hero to help her improve of course, but this wasn't what she had in mind. It also ran against something she had been taught by Gunhead, "Isn't fighting angry dangerous though? Gunhead used to say that."
"There's a difference between letting your anger control you, and using your anger to fuel you."
That...makes sense I guess. And considering how fast Miruko has shot up on the billboard, it's worked for her...
"Listen, I'm not going to sugar coat this. I'm going to put you through hell. I'm going to be beating you down, breaking you down until you snap and come for my throat. Then I'm going to do it again and again and again. If that's not something you think you can handle, then you should leave. 'Cause if you can't, then all this week will be is a waste of both our time that'll leave you in a hospital."
"But… if I can… handle it," Ochako asked. Scared of what was going to happen to her if she stayed, but at the same time scared of what she would miss if she left.
"You'll leave here stronger and with an awakened beast in your heart that'll give you the power to turn any enemy in your path into a red paste."
Ochako's mind raced as she tried to come up with an answer. That kick from before made it very clear that week was going to hurt. Miruko meant it when she said she was going to beat and break her. If she stayed she was going to become Miruko's personal punching bag.
But if I leave, what happens if I'm not strong enough to save people because of it? What kind of pain will I feel then?
Put like that, there was only one answer Ochako could give to the hero. Looking Miruko in the eye, Ochako made up her mind, "I'm staying."
Miruko's predatory grin widened and turned feral, "Good. Then let's get started."
"Sasaki? What are you doing here?"
The tension in the air was palatable. Thick enough that you could cut it with a knife. Izuku knew how to read a room and he knew one thing for certain, This is not the time to ask for an autograph.
Sir Nighteye's face was unreadable for Izuku. The light was reflecting off his glasses, hiding his eyes, and his mouth was pressed firmly in a straight line. All Might didn't wait very long for an answer before turning to look at Gran Torino, "What's going on?"
The older hero held up his hands, "Don't look at me. He showed five minutes ago and hasn't said a word."
"Sasaki?"
"I'm here because this is the obvious place you'd go All Might," Sir Nighteye finally said. "As for what I'm doing here," the lanky hero shifted his gaze from All Might to Izuku, "that has to do with him."
Izuku gulped when everyone glanced at him. Pointing up to himself, Iuzku nervously stuttered out, "M-me?"
"That's correct. You should be used to this by now. As All Might's chosen successor, anyone that knows about One for All is going to be interested in you."
Izuku blinked a few times, startled to hear someone so casually name drop One for All. He supposed that it made sense though. Sir Nighteye had been All Might's sidekick. Of course he would be privy to these kinds of things. As Izuku stepped out from behind All Might however, he swore the mood in the room had soured. All Might's face had hardened and Gran Torino had shot Sir Nighteye a glare that seemed out of place coming from such an older man. Izuku though couldn't even guess what had been said to get everyone on edge like this. But it must have really touched a nerve.
Sir Nighteye pulled out a pad of paper and began to read off from the first page then flipping through several more as he went along, "Midoriya Izuku. Son of Hisashi and Inko Midoriya. Seperated. Mother is unemployed and is designated the current foster care giver of a child named Eri, no last name. The father works for Detnerat Co overseas in America. Currently in charge of the hiring department focusing on resume reviews. Your Quirk: Psychokinesis, was diagnosed while in primary school, and up until junior high was listed as E Ranked in all categories. As noted by Quirk Councillors, 'unimpactful and far below par. No threat to property or other people.'"
Izuku winced, "Ouch."
Sir Nighteye raised an eyebrow over his glasses, "Inaccurate?"
"I mean...not really."
With a curt nod, Sir Nighteye continued, "Above average to high grades throughout your years in school. Annual school health and checkups however have you listed as below average. That is until your third year at junior high. School nurses noted an increase in muscle compared to your second year. This health checkup was held about a month after your run in with a villain. When you were saved by All Might. So at some point between these two events, All Might found you again, you had begun training."
"It was the same day actually. I met All Might when he saved me from the villain the first time. We… talked for a bit before we went our separate ways." All Might winced at the memory of that talk. "By then the villain had escaped and had taken Kacchan hostage. All Might saved us again and after that offered to train me and pass on One for All… You know, saying it all like that. That was a really busy day for me."
Sir Nighteye glanced up from his notes, looked at Izuku then stared at All Might, "The same day. So in less than an afternoon, you run into a boy, save him twice. One of those times after he foolishly tried to intervene in a hostage situation, and you offer him One for All?"
"Yes," was All Might's simple and curt answer.
"Anything else that happened that day?"
"Um, well it wasn't the same day, but that weekend my best friend Uraraka found us when we were about to start training. All Might let her know about everything and she trained with me."
For a few seconds, Izuku swore that Sir Nighteye was going to shred his notepad and he started to wonder if he should have just kept his mouth shut. Instead of tearing the paper apart, Sir Nighteye just muttered, "Another random child,' and flipped to a new page and continued reading, "Then following the villain incident All Might began to train you. Working on your physical strength as well as your Quirk until you entered into U.A.'s entrance exam."
"Which I aced! First place and I destroyed a zero pointer," Izuku said with a huge grin, before adding under his breath, "No threat to property. Ha. Showed them."
"Yes, you destroyed the U.A. zero pointer, and then collapsed into the ground while it exploded around you because you were now suffering the effects of a severe concussion...and you were bleeding all over yourself too if this report is accurate," Sir Nighteye countered with enough frost in his voice that Izuku shivered.
While Izuku was recovering for Sir Nighteye bursting his bubble, All Might's frown deepened, "How do you know about that? Any medical assistance Young Midoriya received should be protected by doctor patient confidentiality. So I doubt Recovery Girl would share this with you."
"You're right of course. Even though she is concerned for Midoriya's well being, she will not and did not break her oath as a doctor. She refused to tell me anything related to his medical treatments he has received during his less than a month at U.A. Fortunately she didn't have to tell me anything that broke her oath for me to get my information. Results of the test and footage of it are available to any hero interested in a student for possible internships or work studies." Sir Nighteye paused and shifted his gaze back to Izuku, "Police reports are also something I was able to check"
Police reports? But I haven't done anything that needs a….oh oooooh, Izuku winced as he realized what was coming next. This probably isn't going to be good.
Sir Nighteye noticed Izuku's flinch, "Since I see you know what I'm going to bring up next, and because of the sensitive nature of this, I'll keep brief. During the attack, you were able to fight through several street level villains on your own. An impressive feat for a first year student. However after this you threw yourself at an even larger group that included the leader of the League of Villains, Shigaraki and the monster Nomu. As a result you received critical injuries that almost resulted in your death. After this, while you were being evacuated from the combat area, you again threw yourself at Shigaraki and would have died if not for your teacher, Eraserhead, keeping the villain from being able to use his Quirk on you. Is this an accurate summary of the events that day?"
Izuku nodded, feeling more and more unsure as to what was happening. It felt like everything he had done during his time at U.A. was getting brought up and he didn't know for what.
"Sasaki, if you have a point. Make it."
"Very well, then I'll simply ask this directly. Midoriya," Izuku went rigid as he got ready to answer whatever was asked of him, "During the last round of the Sports Festival. Were you able to win any of your matches without getting a headache or nose bleed?"
...Well shoot.
Scratching the back of his neck nervously, Izuku tried to think of a way he could answer that didn't come off badly for him. It didn't help that besides Sir Nighteye watching him closely, Gran Torino was also paying close attention to him. All Might's teacher might not have asked for Sir Nighteye to be here or for him to grill Izuku, but he was taking advantage of it, it seemed.
Finally, after not coming up with any good ideas, Izuku just answered honestly, "No."
Gran Torino sighed and Sir Nighteye nodded, "As I suspected. You-"
"But," Izuku continued quickly, cutting off whatever Sir Nighteye was about to say, "Each of those matches I was forced to use my Quirk in ways I hadn't before. Hatsume had a device that was suppressing my Quirk that I had to overcome. Against Yanagi, I only used my Quirk and after that I was able to come up with a technique to use it to create a barrier. Something I'd never even thought I would be able to do before. Against Kacchan, I used that ability and pushed myself to my limits just to win. Against Todoroki I had to win, while also...while also dealing with the risk of my Quirk kickbacking so hard I'd K.O. myself. I won, and I'm stronger because of it."
All Might patted Izuku on the shoulder while Gran Torino smirked, "Kid doesn't lack for confidence when he mans up and says something."
"Yes. You have a point, Gran Torino. It's clear to me that All Might picked someone that shares a few of his own characteristics. Some may even be greater."
Someone saying that about himself should have made Izuku ecstatic, but the tone in Sir Nighteye's voice when he said it, made Izuku think he wasn't paying him a compliment.
"I was afraid All Might had picked someone as reckless as himself. Now I see that he's picked someone much much worse. It took All Might years to become like he is now. Midoriya? He'll be lucky to graduate at the rate he's going."
All Might stepped forward angrily, "That's too far Sasaki. You and I have our differences, but that doesn't mean you can use those to attack Young Midoriya like this. He has made strides and accomplished a great deal, and these deserve respect."
"I am not attacking the young boy. In fact, if he were to get a handle on his reckless nature, at the rate he's progressed, he will be someone to keep an eye on once he graduates. Not unlike Hawks. However, he would have to focus on his own issues, and not have anything else thrown on. And lets not forget, graduation is still years away. You asked me to make my point, and that's it. Midoriya is still years away from being ready if he can overcome his deficiencies. Toogata however is ready now."
Toogata? Who's Toogata? And did it suddenly get a lot colder?
While Izuku looked around confused, Sir Nighteye continued, "You need to think about what you are doing All Might. There isn't enough time to fully train Midoriya to receive One for All. We both know you can't push this off any longer. Toogata however has already proved himself and now stands above his peers. If you would just see reason for once-"
"Enough Sasaki. Enough. This decision is not for you to make. I've made my choice."
Sir Nighteye bolted out of his set, anger replacing his stoic features, "You don't have time! How can you not understand this? By the time he's in his third year it'll be…" Sir Nighteye trailed off before his eyes went wide. He glanced over at Gran Torino who scratched at his beard then at Izuku who was clearly lost, before his head snapped back to look at All Might, "You aren't. All Might, you can't be serious."
All Might just crossed his arms, "The decision is made."
"And to hell with the consequences?"
Gran Torino sighed, "Sasaki, you've always been a logical one. But when it comes to One for All, logic doesn't matter. Especially when it comes to who it's passed on to. If that was the case, Nana wouldn't have passed One for All onto a hopeless, Quirkless whelp like Toshinori."
Izuku looked up at All Might, "Quirkless?"
All Might waved him off, "That's a long story. later."
"Tell me Torino. You say logic doesn't apply here, but am I wrong? I've shown you recordings, and files about Toogata before. Right now, which of the two have the best chance? No matter what, one of them is getting thrown to the wolves. Which one has the best chance of surviving?"
Rubbing his chin, Gran Torino looked at Izuku with a calculating eye, "In terms of experience Toogata has this little boy beat. I'd also say he has several qualities that would make him a great successor, but ultimately it isn't our choice. Toogata may have several qualities we think are needed. However, it's up to the one holding One for All to make the decision on what they are looking for. What we, friends and allies of the current holder of One for All, are supposed to do is help the next in line grow and prosper. To help make him the best hero he can be for the future to come."
Sir Nighteye stood, silent and still, while All Might and Gran Torino watched him. Izuku, while the three had their conversion, was doing his best to piece together everything he was hearing.
So I wasn't the first person All Might was going to give One for All to? It sounds like whoever this Toogata is, is already making a name for himself too but I don't recognize the name. If maybe I heard their hero name… Also, Sir Nighteye keeps bringing up time. He must mean the time All Might can use One for All per day. It's dropped to such a short time, Sir Nighteye must think he won't be able to use it for much longer.
"Future to come…" Sir Nighteye mumbled to himself. Soft enough that no one else in the room heard him. "Very well then. I will see if this boy is ready for the future he is being thrown into. Midoriya," Sir Nighteye snapped his attention back to Izuku who jumped in surprise, "I want to see what you can do."
"You want, huh?" Izuku, acting like a deer in the headlights, fretted around, "What do you mean?"
Gran Torino sighed, "If you are going to fight the boy, do it outside. I'd rather you all not wreck my place."
"Hold it. I haven't given my permission for this. And Young Midoriya has nothing he has to prove to you Sasaki," All Might said sternly.
"All Might, it's okay. I don't mind." The three heroes turned to look at Izuku, "It sounds like Sir Nighteye needs to know I'll be able to live up to the trust you've placed in me. It's probably better to show him what I'm capable of now than let any kind of negative feelings fester."
"Young Midoriya… You shouldn't feel like you have to prove anything to anyone."
Iuzku shrugged, "That's not really true though. If I'm going to become the next number one hero, I'll be spending my life proving I'm worthy of it. I'll also be compared to you a lot as well, that's just how the billboard works and the media always does those kinds of comparisons all the time with other heroes who were ranked the same."
All Might looked down at Izuku in surprise before it faded into a proud smile, "I suppose you're right."
"At least the kid seems to have a good head on his shoulders," Gran Torino added.
Izuku turned back towards Sir Nighteye, "So what kind of test do you have in mind? Should I change into my costume?" Izuku asked, holding up his briefcase.
Pointing down, Sir Nighteye motioned to the briefcase Izuku was carrying, "Perhaps. I would like to see what you are working with first. Bring it here."
Nodding, Izuku walked over and lifted his briefcase up for Sir Nighteye to take. Sir Nighteye reached down to grab the case by the handle, before his hands snapped past it and he grabbed onto Izuku's wrist instead. Startled, Izuku looked up at Sir Nighteye in surprise and felt his breath hitch. Sir Nighteye eye's had changed. His bright yellow eyes had undergone a drastic change, the whites had turned black, and the yellow of his eyes had turned purple. What happened next left Izuku stunned. From behind he suddenly felt himself ripped away as Gran Torino rocketed from behind, grabbed him and pulled him to the other side of the room. At the same time All Might moved and Sir Nighteye was slammed against a wall and held up against it, his feet off the ground. All Might, now bulked up, held Sir Nighteye up with one hand pressed against his chest.
"How dare you!"
Izuku looked around, completely lost as to what had just happened, "All Might!? Wait what's going on?"
"That was a dirty trick Sasaki," Gran Torino said with a frown, "Trying to look into the boy's future like that without his permission."
"Wait...wait that was Foresight!? He looked into my future? But I thought he wanted to test me with a spar or something? Isn't that how things normally work?"
"Normally I'd say yeah, but I suppose Sasaki had other ideas. He played all of us so he could have a chance to use his Quirk on you. He just needed a reason to get you close so he could touch you and make eye contact. Still, he was pretty foolish if he thought he'd have time to actually see anything, unless he actually thought Toshinori and I had gotten that slow over the years."
While Gran Torino explained what had happened to Izuku, All Might kept his hand pressed against Sir Nighteye, a deep and angry frown on his face. He had been paying attention to the other heroes eyes the whole time and had seen them return to normal the moment his back had hit the wall. At most he had only a second to see anything.
"To go this far Sasaki. Have you no shame?"
Even though he was angry, All Might watched Sir Nighteye carefully. So when the hero blinked a few times, and looked confused, even for a moment, All Might took note of it.
"Do you plan on keeping me up here all day?"
"After the stunt you just pulled-"
"I never said anything about a spar. I said I was going to 'see if this boy is ready for the future he is being thrown into.' You're the ones that assumed what method I was going to take."
All Might clicked his tongue against his teeth in disgust, before gripping the front of Sir Nighteyes suit and tossing him towards the door. Not hard enough to hurt him as Sir Nighteye was easily able to keep himself upright and land on his feet, but the message was clear. He had to leave. Now.
"If you were able to see anything, you keep it to yourself. No future is ever set in stone, and I won't have you trying to force one on Young Midoriya. Am I clear."
Dusting himself off, Sir Nighteye looked at Izuku one last time before looking back at All Might, "You say that, but your actions now tell me you're finally taking my warning seriously. I'd say better late than never, but considering where we are now, that would be a lie."
Then turning sharply, Sir Nighteye left, leaving the three in silence. With Izuku now more confused than ever. He wanted to say something, get some answers, but the mood in the room kept him silent. The silence lingered until Gran Torino stood up, "So, who wants some taiyaki?"
"...And lets see... five, two, two and zero," Himiko spoke to herself as she entered in the last few numbers into the tv remote and was rewarded with a confirmation from her motel tv.
It was evening and Himiko was ready to unwind. She supposed she didn't have much to complain about really. After the train ride, she and Tenya had joined Manual for a quick lunch and Himiko was delighted to find out that the hero actually knew a decent place to grab something to eat. Leading them to a small and packed food street with enough food vendors and smells to make Himiko's mouth water. Of course Tenya had to almost ruin her appetite when he asked if they would begin patrolling soon. Fortunately, Manual had said that today was not for patrolling the streets. He was going to take them to his agency office, which turned out to be a single room office that was part of a building complex that housed other small business offices. A few of them, other hero agencies as well.
While in the almost sickeningly clean and organized room, Manual walked them through his office routine. Checking police scanners, making sure paperwork such as bills and incident reports were filed or ready to be mailed. All of the extremely boring, but extremely important stuff if Manual was to be believed, stuff a hero had to do to do their job. It had been so boring, that Himiko had actually asked a question just to break up the monotony of it all, wondering why Manual, a pro hero, was stuck in a single office like this.
Not all heroes are able to afford their own building, Manual had explained. Heroes make commissions from the work they do. Bigger name heroes get more work and so they get more pay. On top of it, the more work they do, the more people know them and the better the chance for sponsorships which gets them more money. Himiko kept to herself that the cycle Manual was describing was something she had heard before. It was something Stain would say was a death spiral for fake heroes.
If there had been one bright side to having to learn about hero paperwork, it was that Tenya was stuck in the room with her and couldn't run off and do something stupid. Of course when sleeping accommodations had come up and Manual had said he had gotten them rooms as a motel right down the street since his apartment didn't have enough room for two extra people, Himiko started to worry she was in for a lot of restless nights, keeping an eye on Tenya's room. However Manual had said he wasn't just going to leave them and that he and Tenya would share a room while she got her own.
So after a boring day, capped off with a dinner at the same food stall street, Himiko was getting herself ready to let off a lot of stress. And thanks to Midnight's credit card that Himiko had taken pictures off, she had unlocked all the tv channels to make sure she had plenty of material to help her unwind.
"Lets see, all the good shit is normally towards the botto-"
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
"Toga! I need to talk to you!"
The loud knocking at her door made Himiko groan loudly, Well, that sure as hell didn't take long. Could he have at least waited like an hour or something?
Rolling out of bed, Himiko glanced down at herself before shrugging and strolled over to her door and paused for a few seconds. Not long enough to make the person knock again but long enough to be annoying. Putting on her biggest smile, Himiko opened the door and stuck her head through the crack. She was greeted with a very grumpy looking Tenya, "Hey there, what can I do for ya?"
Tenya crossed his arms as he glared down at Himiko, "We need to talk."
"Now?"
"Right. Now."
"...Can I at least-"
"Now!"
Rolling her eyes, Himiko moved behind the door and pulled it open, "Fine. Fine. Get in here."
Tenya walked in while Himiko closed the door behind him, "Toga I need to talk to you...to you…wh-wh-wh," Himiko smirked and waited, Boy this is your own fault.
"WHERE ARE YOUR PANTS!?"
Since she had only peeked her head out from behind the door, she hadn't let Tenya see how she was dressed. Or more to the point, how little she was dressed. All Himiko had on was a pair of knee high socks and her school uniform white button shirt with only a couple of the buttons fastened in the middle. To Tenya's great relief, the shirt reached down low enough that it wasn't immediately obvious what she was wearing underneath.
If she was wearing anything underneath.
Himiko was impressed at how quickly Tenya was able to recover from his initial shock, and he stopped looking at her body, and locked eyes with her, "Explain yourself Toga!"
Himiko sighed and shrugged, "I was in the middle of stuff and then you demanded to be let in."
Tenya had the good grace to look guilty before he pushed those feelings away, "Middle of stuff? What could you possibly be doing alone in your room without pants?
"...Seriously? See, if you were Izuku, that question would be cute because he's just too innocent to know about these kinds of things...Also if Izuku walked in here right now, I would have changed this game of Solitaire to Go Fish. But from you Tenya...it's just sad."
Himiko could see the wheels turning in Tenya's head and rolled her eyes when his eyes went wide, "WAIT! Were you!? You were-"
"About," Himiko added.
"-About to...to!"
"Oh my god, use your big boy words. Please."
"You were going to masturbate in a public motel room!? You can't do that! The immorality!"
Himiko raised an eyebrow, "Immorality? Really?" Walking back over to her bed, Himiko grabbed the tv remote she had dropped on the covers and pointed it at the tv. Quickly scrolling through, she selected a channel and hit enter and the room was filled with harsh grunts and orgasmic squeals, "This place has porn you can get on the tv. So don't try to take some moral high ground with me."
Tenya rushed over to the tv and rapidly pressed all the buttons until he was finally able to press the power button and silence the over the top adult noises. Himiko just shrugged, "Don't know why you're so freaked out. That's just some after dark, softcore movie channel shit. They still had their underwear on-"
"Stop it," Tenya turned and glared at Himiko harshly, "All of it. Right now."
"Careful there," Himiko flashed a playful but dangerous smile, "It almost sounds like you're saying what I can and can't do in my own room with my own body. That's a huge no n-"
"The moment you opened the door, you've been trying to stall me with all these distractions. We are going to talk now. And I will not put up with any more of your games Toga."
Himiko's smile fell, he may be acting like a complete idiot but I guess he's the class rep for a reason. He's not a fool...when he doesn't want to be.
"Alright Tenya. No games. What do you want?"
"What I want, is to know why you're here."
"Because I got an internship request from the same hero you did."
Tenya crossed his arms and bore into Himiko with his eyes, "Do you honestly expect me to believe you're here because you wanted to be taught by Manual? Out of the thousands of other heroes that requested you?"
Himiko mirrored Tenya's pose and glare, "You know I could say the exact same thing to you right? Hell you being here is more suspicious than me being here. I'm fucking lazy, so of course I'd pick a place that wouldn't give me such a hard time. You though? You're Ingenium's little brother, you probably got some really nice internship requests, even if I got more. Quality over quantity hmmm."
Tenya looked away, "My reasons are my own. I don't owe you any kind of explanation for why I chose to come here."
"But I do?"
"Yes. You do."
Himiko's jaw dropped, "Really? Really!? Fuck me, you are such a douche when you're acting like an idiot. Fine, you want an answer, well here it is. I'm here because I have to keep an eye on you because you are a FUCKING IDIOT!"
Tenya pointed towards himself, "You're here because of me? That doesn't make any sense."
"Oh yes it does. And you know why it does. Because you're here because you want to find Mr. Stain for what he did to your brother."
Tenya's eyes went wide and the mask of anger he had been wearing vanished. Replaced with momentary panic, "What!? No I'm, but how could you? Toga you don't know what you're saying."
Himiko just pointedly glared at Tenya while he stumbled over his words, trying to come up with excuses and reasons why she was way off base. He went about this for a little while longer before he came to a stop, and his panicked face turned stoic, then deep creases formed as he started to frown, "Midoriya."
Hearing Tenay mention Izuku momentarily threw Himiko for a loop, "Huh?"
Tenya pointed at Himiko angrily, "Midoriya talked to you didn't he?"
"Huh? What does Izuku have to do-"
"AARRGH!" Tenya threw up his hands, "I can't believe him! I trusted him to keep my brother's paralysis to himself and he goes and-"
"Your brother's paralyzed?"
Himiko's shocked and soft voice made Tenya's rant come to a screeching stop. When he turned back to look at her, he was shocked to see her looking at him wide eyed and sympathetic, "You...you didn't know?"
Himiko shook her head, "No. I didn't."
"But Midoriya knew about…"
"Tenya, I never talked with Izuku about any of this. I noticed you were paying attention to the locations of the hero requests, more than the heroes themselves. So that on top of how off you had been acting, and the fact I found out you had accepted a request that brought you to Hosu City, it didn't take much to figure out you were here because you wanted to find Mr. Stain. It would have been nice if the other teachers believed you were stupid enough to try it, but at least they let me come here to humor me I guess. Or test me, I don't know what goes through that damned mouse's head sometimes."
"I see." Tenya was quiet for a bit while Himiko watched him, "So you're here to keep me from getting justice for my brother then."
"I'm here because you're my friend and I don't want you to get yourself killed."
Tenya shook his head. While some of the rage from before was gone, Himiko could see the same stubbornness and anger was still there, though at least now he wasn't screaming at her, "I'm here for a reason Toga. Don't try and stop me. I will find Stain regardless of you being here."
Himiko shook her head, "I'm not here to prevent you from finding him. Because you won't. I'm here to make sure he doesn't get a chance to find you."
The two continued to stare at each other before Tenya turned and walked out of the room, "Please Toga. I don't want to have to go through you to get the justice my brother deserves but I will if I must."
With the door to her room now closed, Himiko sat down on her bed. Rubbing her temple as she started to fully understand the headache looking after Tenya for the next week was going to cause her.
"Here, bite down on this."
Ochako, through clenched teeth, took what was handed to her with her one working arm and examined it, "Is...is this beef jerky?"
Miruko nodded as stood behind Ochako and examined her not working arm. The large lump poking out from Ochako's shoulder told her everything she needed to know. It was dislocated. "Yeah, it was either that, or a pillow. Figured the jerky would taste better. Now bite down and hold still."
Doing as told, Ochako clamped down and prepared herself for what came next. Miruko took hold of her wrist and pulled it up and out, straightening it out. Her other hand was placed over Ochako's injured shoulder, "Okay, I want you to relax. I'm going to count to three, and when I do I want you to go as tight as possible."
"Hmpf," Ochako tried to say something through her jerky gag, but finally just nodded her head.
"Good. Now, go limp. Limp and limber."
Following Miruko's orders, Ochako did her best to relax. A tall order for how much she hurt all over, but she worked through it. Recalling Gunheads breathing techniques, Ochako slowed her breathing down, and let herself loosen up. Miruko nodded to herself, "Good. Good, nice and loose. Okay here we go… One!"
POP!
With a sudden pull and twist, Miruko yanked Ochako's arm out and twisted before jamming the dislocated arm back into its socket. Ochako's teeth ripped through the jerky as new fresh pain made her vision go white. While Ochako screamed, Miruko felt along her shoulder, and smiled, "There we go. Good as new."
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THREE!?" Ochako screamed as she stood and whirled around to face Miruko, who promptly pushed her back into her seat.
"See, that's the kind of fire you should have shown me earlier. If you had you you might have gotten through the day without hurting yourself."
"Hurting myself!? You kicked me through a wall!"
"It was a hollow drywall. Plus I kicked you between the studs. So stop complaining. Also, when popping something back into place, like your shoulder, knees, elbows, you want to be loose. Go taut and you'll probably just make it worse."
"You," Ochako ground her teeth together fighting back the string of swears she so wanted to yell. Settling on a growl as she rubbed her shoulder.
Miruko smirk and leaned forward, "Yes? Go on." Waiting for Ochako to snap, Miruko sighed when Ochako turned away and grumbled, "Oh well. I'll get through to you yet, and we made good progress today anyway."
"How in the hell was what happened today, progress? All you did was beat me up." Ochako was tempted to add that her school uniform was ruined, with huge tears in her top and skirt, along with a missing sleeve that was hanging up in the hole her body had made. Miruko hadn't given her a chance to change into her costume before she had continued her training. Her tights were also torn and unlike her uniform, she had to pay for those.
"Well, I learned you can really take a beating. So I know I don't have to hold back as much tomorrow."
...Greaaaaaat.
"Now come on. Let's get you cleaned off and then we can go grab some food."
Ochako looked down at herself, "Yeah, a shower sounds like a plan….What?" Ochako didn't like the smirk on her mentor's face, "What?"
"Follow me."
With a grunt, Ochako followed after Miruko as the hero led her through the building until she walked into a break room of some kind. A large fridge and freezer were sitting in a corner. Tables and chairs had been pushed to the sides, with a few towels folded up on them. A hose was screwed onto a sink faucet and rolled up and two very large green plastic trash cans were next to them. When Ochako glanced down one, she saw it was over half filled with clean water, and she started to get nervous, "Sooooo why EEP!"
Before Ochako could even finish a full sentence, Miruko lifted her up and dropped her into the large water filled can, sending water splashing over the sides, "AHHHH! WHY!?"
"Because I'm bigger than you and stronger than you."
"...You are not bigger than me." Ochako swore Miruko's smile went a little stiff when she said that.
"I am bigger than you. Here see," Putting her hand up to her head, like you would see children do when trying to see who was taller, Miruko's hand went from her head to Ochako's. When her hand brushed against Ochako's soaking wet hair, she frowned and repeated the gesture. This time however she put her hand up to the tips of her bunny ears and when she passed her hand over Ochako's head, it cleared with a foot to spare.
"See, bigger."
"Ears don't count! GAH!"
Putting her hand on top of Ochako's head, Miruko pushed her down into the can, "You sit in there and shut it."
Grumbling and sitting in chest high water, Ochako looked up, "These haven't been used right?"
"They're clean. Picked them up at a hardware store this morning."
Oh thank god.
While Ochako was relieved to hear that, her joy was short-lived. Miruko walked over the freezer and pulled out several bags of ice.
Oh god no.
"No, no no no no noOOOOO!"
Ignoring Ochako cries, Miruko ripped the bags open and poured the ice into the water with Ochako, "Oh quit complaining. Ice baths are the best thing after a good workout." Pulling out some more ice bags, she dumped them into the other water bath and then jumped in, "Oh yeah, that's the spot."
With her teeth chattering, Ochako glared angrily at Miruko, "I-I-I h-h-hate y-y-y-y-y-y-you!"
"Good. Maybe you'll actually put up a fight tomorrow so I know I'm not wasting my time."
"Wait, you want me to what?" Izuku hadn't been sure he had heard Gran Torino right. The older hero was already pushing All Might into another room as he answered him.
"While Toshinori and I go have a little talk, I want you to whip us up something to eat for dinner." Gran Torino stopped and motioned towards his fridge, "I'm sure I have something in there you can cook."
"Errrrr."
Gran Torino frowned and glared up at Izuku, "You do know how to cook right? At your age, I'm sure you don't just let your mother do it all."
"Ummm."
Before Izuku could even get out a decent reply, the two heroes were gone, leaving him alone in the kitchen still trying to figure out what even was going on. After standing in the middle of the room in a stupified haze, Izuku robotically walked over to the kitchen and started going through the cupboards. What greeted him was not what he had been expecting, This… this is a lot of instant noodles.
Turning for the fridge, Izuku was greeted with ready made meals lining the shelves. Pushing past the boxes, Izuku looked around for anything fresh and found a carton with a few eggs left. Checking the bottom drawers he found some thin pork chops wrapped in plastic. Raising an eyebrow, Izuku took the eggs and pork out and put them on the counter and went back to the cupboards, I thought I saw some stuff other than instant noodles somewhere in...Oh! Here we go.
After a little more searching and luck, Izuku was able to find everything he needed to make dinner for the three, "Looks like we're having katsudon."
Humming to himself, Izuku went to work prepping everything, mimicking what he had seen his mother do so many times. Getting the cooking oil heated and chopping up the onion, and mixing up the sauce to cook it in. Making shallow cuts into the pork and then taking a rolling pin and lightly tenderizing it. This was always one of his favorite parts to do when he was allowed growing up. Sometimes after a bad day it helped make him feel less stressed. Of course after a year of intense training under All Might, the next time he had helped his mother cook this, he had snapped the rolling pin in half accidentally. Ochako had asked him if he had any pent up aggression he wanted to talk about, which was crazy.
Even if sometimes the pork looked like Katsuki or his father on a bad day.
With that done, Izuku moved the pork chops to a plate and started flowering them and dipping them into a bit of beaten egg before covering it with bread crumbs. Smirking to himself as he used his Quirk to do this last part, keeping his fingers clean. His mother was able to do this last part without making a mess. He however always got thick crusted fingers. As Izuku hovered the last egg dipped pork chop, he glanced over at the room All Might and Gran Torino had vanished into and walked over. He could make out their muffled voices but couldn't hear exactly what was being said.
Glancing around to make sure no one was watching him, before rolling his eyes when he remembered he was alone, Izuku leaned his head against the door and pressed his ear against it. Almost immediately the door swung open and Gran Torino jabbed the end of his cane right into Izuku's side, "We can see your glow from under the door boy! Get back to work."
"Errrr…."
All Might faced away, snickering to himself while Gran Torino closed the door. Izuku sighed and went back to the kitchen to finish cooking. As he worked, Izuku thought back to everything that had happened and had been said since he had gotten here. It was obvious he was missing some important pieces of the conversation for context, but there was enough said that Izuku could fill in the blanks with what he already knew.
"Toogata huh…"
"Dinner's ready!" Izuku called out as he set the last katsudon bowl down on the table and took his seat. Almost immediately after the door opened and Gran Torino and All Might walked out.
"That smells delicious Young Midoriya."
Gran Torino hopped into his seat and glanced over at Izuku, "Did you not see all the instant meals I had?"
Izuku shrugged, "No instant noodle can beat katsudon."
"Ha ha, not one to take the easy way huh."
Blinking, Izuku looked at the old hero as he dug in, Wait was this a test? Looking over at All Might, the man just shrugged and started eating. For a little while, the three eat in silence, enjoying the warm meal. Soon though, Izuku couldn't hold his tongue, "I had some things I wanted to ask."
All Might nodded, "I figured you would. Today hasn't exactly gone the way I planned."
Gran Torino huffed, "No kidding. My big entrance was ruined before it even had a chance."
"You were going to do the fake murder thing, weren't you."
"...Buzz kill…"
All Might ignored the grumpy old man and looked over at Izuku, "I want to apologize again. You had to deal with a lot of stuff that you shouldn't have had to."
Izuku shrugged, "Story of my life if you think about it...which I'd rather not. But It's okay for me to ask some questions then?"
"Of course."
"You're Quirkless?"
All Might laughed while Gran Torino grumbled even louder, "Told you that would be the first thing he asked about."
"The successor to One for All is a giant fan boy. We're doomed."
"Eh?"
"Nevermind that. It's true. I wasn't born with a Quirk. It was nowhere near as rare as it is these days, but it was still pretty uncommon. My master had a Quirk, nonetheless, she raised me to be a hero and passed on One for All to me."
"Wow," Izuku shook his head. It was still crazy to think about. That All Might had started off so near the bottom but had risen so high. It also made a few other things clearer, "Is that why you were so worried about how One for All would affect my Quirk? Since you never had to deal with that yourself."
"That's correct. Because of the training I went through, I know physically what One for All will do to your body and what needs to be done to prevent you from exploding your limbs," izuku made a small eep remembering the first warning All Might had given him about the risks of what would happen to himself if he got the Quirk too soon, "But your Quirk is an unknown. If it was a mutant or transformation type Quirk, or something physical, I'd probably have a better idea of what would happen, but as it stands it's just a big unknown."
"What do you think will happen to me?"
All Might rubbed his chin, "I've done a lot of thinking about it. Even talked with a few others like Recovery Girl, Principal Nezu and Torino here. You'll become physically stronger, that always happens to whoever uses One for All."
Izuku wasn't able to hide his excitement, "I'll be as strong as you right?"
"Young Midoriya, remember. One for All when passed to another stockpiles the energy from the previous holder. It gets stronger each time. So you won't be as strong as I am. You're going to be stronger." That thought was both incredibly exciting for Izuku, and a little terrifying. "As for your Quirk. It'll become stronger too. The problem is I'm not sure how that will affect you."
"Worst case?"
"Worst case is it'll be like when we started our training. You'll have all this power but you won't be able to tap into it without the kickback. Right now it's headaches, nose bleeds and concussions and at the beginning you didn't have to do much to reach those."
"So you're saying I may have to retrain myself to use my own Quirk?" That idea wasn't very appealing to Izuku at all. In reality he was way behind all his classmates in terms of his familiarity with his Quirk. They had been using theirs since they were kids. He had only really started using his for a year. So he was still learning new tricks and things about himself. If he had to retrain himself to use his Quirk again, he might never catch up with everyone.
"Of course, this is why I worked with you the way I did for that year. I tried to cover all the bases when dealing with possible fallout and drawbacks. You have control of your Quirk now. While we won't know what will happen, we won't get anywhere worrying about it. Sometimes you just have to press forward."
Izuku nodded and took another bite of his food. It was true, after a while, you can only prepare for so long. Sooner or later you have to move forward and just deal with the consequences, "Who's Toogata?" All Might shifted in his chair while Gran Torino just ate his food, watching the two talk, "I thought about the name Sir Nighteye mentioned and I didn't recognize it belonging to any hero I knew of, but there is a Toogata Mirio that's a third year at U.A."
That shocked All Might and even Gran Torino was looking at Izuku with a raised eyebrow, "And how did you put that together kid? You know everyone attending your school by name?"
Izuku shook his head, "No. But he did just win the third year's Sport Festival. He's also pretty famous for being one of the three strongest students at U.A. there's Toogata Mirio, who got first place. Hadou Nejire who came in second and Amajiki Tamaki. Everyone calls them the Big Three. And All Might, you said it yourself. You came to U.A. to find your successor."
Gran Torino shook his head, "Kid's got some brains under that mess of hair at least."
All Might nodded, "You're pretty spot on Young Midoriya. I did say I came to U.A. for that very reason, but it's also true at the time there was already a short list of students that I was keeping an eye on. Young Toogata was at the top of that list along with Young Hadou right behind him. He's good, I won't pretend otherwise. He has real talent and will make waves when he goes pro."
"So I cut in front of two really strong candidates then."
All Might waved that off, "You didn't cut in front of anyone. And maybe list is the wrong word...group of students might be a better way to phrase it
"Is that why Sir Nighteye was pushing him so hard? He was the best candidate of the group until I showed up?"
All Might ran a hand through his hair, "In a sense I suppose. He's also had Young Toogata interning with him for a while now. So his viewpoint is a bit...skewed."
"Oh…So with all of that. Why me? What made me stand out over someone like Toogata?"
All Might leaned back in his chair as he mulled over his reply, "When I first saw Young Toogata, I could immediately see why Sasaki and even Nezu had high hopes for him." Izuku's eyes widened at the mention of Nezu but he didn't say anything as All Might continued, "In many ways, you could say he's a younger version of myself. Boastful, energetic, outgoing," Gran Torino coughed into his hand and eyed All Might, "err to summarize, he has a spark to him. They thought they found someone who was just like me. And I suppose they did."
Pointing at Izuku, All Might continued, "But then I met you and after I saw you display the qualities of a hero when you rushed in to rescue Young Bakugou, I suppose I saw myself in you too. But not as I am now or how I was then, but how I was when I first met my master. The same spark everyone else could see, I saw in you, but yours had the potential to grow. You had the potential to grow, and you've lived up to that potential too. You've gone beyond what I ever could have imagined time and time again. You and you alone have the potential to draw out One for All's potential. Of this I have no doubt. You Young Midoriya are the one that One for All belongs to now. Nothing will ever change my mind."
Izuku felt his eyes start to grow wet when he heard that, "All Might…"
"...The kid isn't actually going to start crying is he?" Gran Torino asked, looking between All Might and Izuku.
All Might shrugged, "Yeah I'm still working on that one."
Izuku wiped at his eyes laughing, "Sorry."
When Izuku finally got control of himself, he looked at the two heroes, "I suppose I only have one question left."
"And that is?" All Might asked.
"What kind of training will I be doing?"
Gran Torino smiled, and Izuku felt a shiver run down his spine, "You, zygote, are all mine tomorrow. I'm going to see just what you are capable of. So you better bring your best."
"Ehh!?" The energy Izuku could feel radiating from the old hero was scary.
"Please don't kill my successor Torino."
"EHH!?"
Gran Torino shook his head, "It's pretty obvious you've been too soft on the boy Toshinori. I have a year of work to put in tomorrow to make sure the kid is up to snuff."
"To...to make sure I'm good enough for One for All?"
"Ha! No, nothing so grand. I'm not like Sasaki. You're the successor. You're also so wet behind the ears it's embarrassing. So tomorrow, it's boot camp time. I'm going to put you through your paces and see what you're like on the other side."
I think I'm actually going to die.
All Might leaned forward, clasping his hands in front of himself, "After that then...then you and I need to have a talk. There are some things...some very important things you need to be told."
"If they're important, should we talk about them now?"
All Might shook his head, "No. No, I don't want you thinking about anything tonight. We'll finish dinner and then I want you to turn in early tonight so you'll be fully rested for tomorrow's practice with Torino. After that, then we'll talk."
After dinner was done, and the kitchen all cleaned up, it was late enough in the evening that Izuku was told it was time for him to head off to bed and get ready for tomorrow. After getting changed for the night, Izuku lay on his bed and scrolled through his phone and opened up his group chat app.
Midoriya: hey evry 1
Midoriya: i hop ur 1st day z going wll
Ochako, her teeth chattering, heard her phone ding. Still dripping wet and wrapped up in several large towels, reached over and scanned the message Izuku had sent. It took a great deal of concentration to steady her hands so she could hit the keys needed to reply.
Uraraka: ttlly fn
Shouto felt his phone vibrate and glanced down to check it.
"SHOOOOOOUUUUUUTOOOOOO! Pay attention."
Keeping himself as calm as he could, and ignoring his father's shout as he went over the plan for their trip to Hosu with the rest of his agency, Shouto quickly typed out a quick reply before pocketing his phone.
Todoroki: I've been in the same room as my father for the whole day. Nothing has caught fire yet, or been frozen.
Mei coughed out a cloud of smoke as she held a fire extinguisher in one hand and type away with her thumb in her other hand.
Hatsume: dvlpmnt std mght b xplodd
"Froppy, your phone was going off. Here you go."
Tsuyu wiped her brow as she stopped her cleaning and looked over as the sidekick for the hero she had interned with, Sirius, camed walking down the deck.
"Oh, thank you, kero."
Sirius nodded, "Oh by the way, you've cleaned enough for today. When you put that brush away, come up to the bow and join the crew for a bit. We were going to have a few drinks before heading off to bed. I made sure we had something for you too."
Tsuyu smiled, "That sounds fun."
Taking her phone, Tsuyu looked through the messages. Sirius leaned over watching Tsuyu type away, "Boyfriend?"
"That is a very dangerous thing to ask, kero."
"Oh?"
Asui: got pt 2 wrk
Asui: ocean is prtty tho
Asui: thnk ill lern lots here
Hitoshi glared angrily at the computer screen he was watching for the past few hours. Of non stop stand up comics. Hearing his phone, he reached down, read the messages and typed angrily. His fingers hitting the screen with enough force he was sure they would break through to the other side.
Shinso: im ging 2 brn Ketsubutsu 2 th ground
"Iida, tomorrow we'll be patrolling the streets. Make sure you stay close to me, understand?"
Tenya nodded, "Yes sir."
"Good. I'll be sure to remind Toga tomorrow as well. We won't be doing anything dangerous, but I want you both to be able to see what a normal day is like. It's not always villains and action."
Tenya nodded again before he looked down at his phone. Seeing the message from Izuku he felt some guilt well up in him, I assumed he had gone off and talked behind my back. I should be sure to apologize to him for that lack of trust.
Iida: The day has been productive. I believe I will learn a great many things in my internship. I hope you all are doing well and taking this time to learn everything you can. As students of U.A., it is our solemn duty to take this time to impress the heroes that have taken us under their wings. Let us make sure we use this time to the fullest. Also Hatsume, while I'm sure you are exaggerating, please take care to respect our school's property more. Your experimentations I'm sure require a great deal of trial and error, you should be more careful.
With a long sigh and a huff, Himiko let herself relax as she sprawled out on her bed. Blankets were bunched up on the floor and her sheets that weren't sticking to her, were close to joining. All her pillows were gone save for the one she spat out that now had holes from her fangs. Reaching over for her phone, it took her a few tries before she was able to get a good hold of it, cursing her slippery fingers.
Toga: thnks 4 the txt izuku
Toga: ws jst thinking about u
Toga: get ths!
Toga: me nd tenya pcked the same hero
Toga: so thts a thing
Toga: boring rite now but thts ok
Toga: I cn deel wth boring
It was the morning of Izuku's second day of internships. He had only just swung his feet over the side of his bed when the door to his guest room burst open and clattered to the floor, "AHH!"
Gran Torino rocketed into the room and slammed into the bed making it skid along the floor and hitting the far side wall in the room, before bouncing back up into the air and anchoring himself to the wall above the busted door, "And what do you think you're doing still in be- WHOA!" Suddenly alarmed, Gran Torino kicked off the wall as the door he had just kicked down was thrown right back at him.
Izuku, who had still been waking up so he wasn't fully cognizant of what exactly was going on, took in the little bit of info he had and worked out a response. One: the door to his room has been busted down. Two: someone is jumping around like a mad man. These two points led to the only logical conclusion.
I am under attack.
So, throw the heaviest thing in the room, i.e. the door, at the attacker.
Grabbing the door with his Quirk, Izuku zeroed in on the yellow blur and fired. The resulting bangs, crashes and then a dull thump to his side was enough to fully wake Izuku up as he looked around trying to find out what was going on. What he found was Gran Torino sitting on the bed besides him and the door which had gone through one wall and was sticking out of another.
"Torino! Young Midoriya! Are you two...okay?"
All Might, alarmed by the commotion had rushed up to see what was going on but paused to look at the mess when he arrived, then at the two, "What happened?"
"What happened is the kid has a hair trigger," Gran Torino said with a laugh as he hopped off the bed.
Looking at the damage he had just caused, Izuku bowed his head, "I'm sorry. I was just so freaked out when you kicked in the door I just...sorta...reacted."
Gran Torino waved him off, "Don't apologize. Your reflexes are better than I expected but your aim... Your aim needs some work. Now go get changed into your costume and meet me downstairs."
"Um yes sir but, shouldn't I help clean up?"
"Pfft why? That's what Toshinori is for."
"Huh!?"
"Come on kid, don't got all day."
Gran Torino pulled a shrinking All Might out of the room and left Izuku to try and figure out what had even just happened, Why do I have the feeling today is going to be...special.
Deciding that making Gran Torino wait was not worth the risk, Izuku stood up from the bed and stretched. After feeling properly loosened up, Izuku found his metal briefcase and plopped it onto the bed. Clicking open the latches, he could help but feel a shiver of excitement. His new costume was inside and he was finally going to get to wear it. He had seen bits and pieces of it while hanging out with Mei, but never all together.
Opening the briefcase, Izuku ran his hands over the top part of his costume. The previous light green jumpsuit was now replaced with a much sturdier material, and the color was much darker. Now closer to the same shade as his hair, and the white lines from before were now a dark black. With an excited grin, Izuku laid the full body suit out onto the bed and pulled out the next parts to his costume. A pair of black gloves, trimmed with green lines along the cuff along with black elbow guards and a pair of black knee pads that now covered his entire legs up to his thighs.
Moving on was his new red utility harness. His original harness was one of the few pieces of his first costume that the support department had worked on originally, so not many things had been changed. It had been reinforced and made stiffer after his talks with Mei because he had requested that if the harness was pulled, either forward back or even up, it wouldn't ride up or become uncomfortable. Izuku nearly doubled over laughing when Mei figured out why he had made that request.
His red boots came out next.
These would never be changed.
Ever.
Next was the piece of his costume that almost got him in trouble. It had been a last second addition that had come to him in a dream. A brilliant white cape. With a cheesy grin, Izuku pulled the cape out and twirled it around his shoulders before striking a pose with his fists on his waist. He stood like that for a few seconds too long and the cape slid off and he had to catch it before it hit the ground. Laying it next to his harness, Izuku took one of the metal clasps of the cape and held it to one of the harnesses shoulder straps. A thin magnet in the strap caught the magnet in the cape clasp and the two snapped together with a satisfying click. Izuku pulled at the cape and the clasp held, but when he gave it a hard yank, the cape came off cleanly. Izuku smirked. A running joke within the hero forums was that capes were a death trap because they would either get grabbed by villains or snagged on something. This would not be his fate though.
Lastly, Izuku pulled out the final piece to his costume. The part that had had the most work put into it. His new "mask." After a few weeks of being poked and prodded by Mei. Having things strapped to his head and possibly drilled as well. Mei never did tell Izuku what that drill had been for. The piece of gear came in two parts. The bottom part was a replacement for his grinning respirator. While the previous one one would hang around his neck when he wasn't using it. This new one was more high tech. The respirator was split in half and was attached to each side of his head covering each ear. When he needed the respirator it would slide out and cover his mouth and nose. Unfortunately the painted on smile was nixed as the pattern with the folding steel made the smile look sinister vs the hopeful look he had wanted. So he would just have to rely on his own smile from how on.
The second and most important part of his new gear was the upper section of the mask. At first glance it didn't seem like much. A far cry from the original helmet Mei had been using to test on him. Instead of a full helmet, all there was was an elongated pentagon crest that looked like solid steel so it matched his respirator when it was in use. However when looking at the top edges, Izuku could make out the faint lines of small closed vents. Picking the crest up, Izuku let it rest in the palm of his hand. The crest was the perfect size to sit right in the center of his forehead and was light enough that it wouldn't be noticeable when he was wearing it. The crest was made so that all Izuku had to do was press it to his forehead and it would stay in place. So there were no straps or anything needed. How Mei pulled that off Izuku couldn't even begin to guess.
Taking the crest, Izuku pushed it onto his forehead and after tentatively taking his hand away, smirked when it stayed in place, now to see if she was able to do the important thing!
The crests main function was to help negate the headaches and other drawbacks he had to deal with when he overused his Quirk. In theory this meant he could push himself harder and for longer periods of time before having to stop. While this was the device's main function it also did something else. Grabbing his phone and flipping it so he could see himself on the screen, Izuku began to glow. His green aura enveloped him like normal except around his head. The moment he activated his Quirk the crest came to life and the small vents on its side opened up. Expelled from those vents was his own aura but now given a very distinct and recognizable shape. At least to him. Twin flares shot up giving him the same silhouette he had with his original costume. His "rabbit ears" were no longer floating pieces of his cowl as before but now made from his own Quirks aura.
"Yes, it works!"
Izuku was ecstatic but knew he didn't have long to celebrate. With all the parts to his costume now laid out, Izuku hurriedly began to get dressed for his first day of training under All Might and Gran Torino.
Punch!
Kick!
Punch!
Punch!
Knee!
Ochako unloaded into Miruko, doing everything she could to land a solid hit on the bunny hero as she easily deflected all of her attacks. The morning spar had been going on for a while now, ever since Miruko had literally kicked Ochako out of her bed. Sweat stung each and every cut and bruise on Ochako's body as she pushed herself. Her lungs burned for air but she barely had time to take a good breath as any time she tried to slow down, Miruko would go on the attack. The hero had laid out the rules for this match without having to say anything.
Go all out and attack, or else you get pummeled.
Ochako leapt forward, trying to drive her elbow into Miruko's chest, but the hero easily sidestepped and Ochako fought to keep her balance as she tried to come to a sudden stop and go after the hero. Unfortunately, her ankle rolled and Ochako tumbled to the ground. She hadn't hurt her ankle too much and the fall didn't hurt, and she was more shocked to find herself on the ground. It's what she knew was coming next that she knew was going to hurt. Sure enough, when she glanced over her shoulder, she saw Miruko winding back a kick, before she got punted to the other end of the room.
Miruko watched as Ochako forced herself back to her feet, "Well, you're trying at least." She could tell Ochako was starting to come undone. She had over committed so hard on that last attack it stood out. Ochako was a rookie in every sense of the word, but Miruko could tell Gunhead had instilled some good lessons on self control. But now, she wasn't following them like she had been the day before. All the physical 'training' was clearly having an effect.
Now it's time to change things up a bit.
"Why are you here?"
Ochako blinked, not expecting a question or any kind of conversation during the match. If Miruko said anything while she was 'teaching' her, it was taunts or put downs. So thrown off kilter by this, Ochako couldn't even think of a serious answer to give, so she defaulted to something sarcastic, "That's one of life's great mysteries isn't. Why are any of us here?"
Miruko laughed, "Okay, that was funny enough for me to not kick you upside your head," Ochako sighed in relief, "But I'm still going to need you to answer the question. Seriously, this time."
"So I guess you're asking about why I'm training to be a hero then?"
"You got it."
Ochako closed her eyes and sighed. It was one thing to keep her reasons from her classmates. She was not about to go broadcasting that she's not well off money wise and have to deal with all the charity she was sure would come. Because her classmates were good people who would want to help her. But it was a whole other issue now that a professional hero, who was training her, was asking. A professional hero that would probably pick up on any lie she tried to spin and beat her into next week for it, "It's...a personal reason. Will you keep it to yourself?"
Miruko eyed Ochako, crossing her arms as she did, "Do I look like Uwabami or Mt. Lady to you?"
That's a fair point I guess. And the best I'm going to get too I bet.
So Ochako told Miruko everything about her family. Her parent's troubled construction business. Growing up poor and the effect she saw this have on her family and her motivation to become a hero to make enough money so that. Miruko listened to it all, rubbing her chin as she took it all in, "But why get into the hero business. True, you can make a lot of money, but the risks involved aren't something to just ignore."
It was a fair point, Ochako agreed. But she had a reason. It had been a reason she had carried with her for a long time, "When I was very little, I saw my first hero. He wasn't some big billboard guy. He was the local hero of our neighborhood. When I saw him, he wasn't fighting some big villain or anything like that. He was just helping people. I remember looking around and seeing the effect him being there had on everyone in the crowd. They were all smiling and cheering because he was there. Those looks, those smiles...I wanted to see people smile like that even more. I wanted to be the one to make people smile like that."
"And to be able to do that, you decided to become a hero then?"
"Yes."
"I see…" Miruko crossed her arms as she chewed on everything Ochako had told her. The way Ochako had talked, the look in her eyes when she told her story, it made it all very clear to Miruko that Ochako held her motivation close to her heart. Which meant that if she pressed the right buttons, she might be able to get the reaction she had been waiting for.
"Well I won't question your reasoning, it's just a shame it has to be because you had parents who were such failures."
"Ah!" Ochako froze on the spot. Rational thoughts no longer existed in her mind and every muscle in her body locked up.
"A parent's job is to look after their child, but you're here because your parents couldn't even do that."
Ochako's muscles were pulled taut, her fingers digging into her own palms, but she didn't feel anything. Except a burning in her soul.
With a dismissive wave of her hand, Miruko continued on, "Really, the best thing for you to do would be to forget about them. Abandon them since they will only hold you ba-ACK!"
Miruko didn't get a chance to finish. Ochako had heard enough and she was not going to let her talk about her parents like this anymore. Ochako had exploded forward, covering the distance between the two while at the same wretched her arm back to throw the strongest haymaker she could. When she got close enough her arm ripped forward, driving her fist right into Miruko's face. Ochako didn't stop to see what kind of damage she had done. It didn't matter since she had every intention of adding onto it anyway. Reaching out with her other hand, Ochako grabbed Miruko's arm, and pressed her fingers into the hero's skin. Floating her. With the hero's weight gone, Ochako was able to swing Miruko over her head, and slam her into the ground. As Miruko bounced off the ground, Ochako drove her knees into her chest. With her knees driving the air out of Miruko's lungs, and her body holding the hero down so she wouldn't float away, Ochako rained down hell. Punch after punch, all to make sure this hero never spoke about her parents like that again.
However, after only a few seconds, Ochako's assault came to a screeching halt. Miruko's hands shot up and she caught each of Ochako's fists. If Ochako was thinking straight, she might have been a little terrified by the huge bloody smile that split Miruko's face, or confused when she cheered out, "Finally!" But she was still determined to make the hero pay for what she said, so with both her fists caught, she went to her backup and pulled her head back for a headbutt. Unfortunately Miruko had the exact same idea. The two heads smashed into each other and Ochako was, in the most layman's terms, knocked the fuck out.
A deluge of cold water ripped Ochako out of the black void of unconsciousness and back into the world of the living. Sputtering and completely lost, Ochako tried to take stock of her situation. Her hands hurt. She had the mother of all headaches, and she was now soaking wet, "Wha? Huh? Where am...What was I…?"
"Wake up princess. We don't have time for you to be lying around."
Ochako snapped her attention to the voice and found Miruko, holding an empty bucket, grinning down at her. Blinking a few times, the haze in Ochako's mind began to lift and she remembered what had just happened and what Miruko had said. Her face soured, "YOU! You said-!"
"I said exactly what I needed to say to get you to finally snap."
Ochako, wobbling legs and all, forced herself up, "What you needed to say? What does that mean?"
Miruko rolled her eyes, "I told you, I was going to break you down until you finally snapped. Physical beatings were going a bit too slow, so I changed up the rules a little. And it turns out when I did that I found this big red button with 'parents' slapped right over it. You ever see a big red button and not pressed it?"
Ochako rubbed her brow, wincing as her fingers touched what she knew was a fresh bruise, "So you were trying to get me to attack you back then?"
"Yup and you took the bait: hook, line, and sinker."
Ochako was conflicted. On one hand she felt played, on the other this was part of the training so this was progress right? When she saw the slight swelling starting to form on Miruko's jaw she also felt a little proud. But she wanted to be sure of something first, "So you don't think my parents are failures right?"
"...Meh," Miruko replied with a shrug.
Ochako's eyes narrowed, "What?"
Miruko nodded to herself, "Alright, good to know that the parent button is something I can keep pressing."
"I! You!" Flustered, Ochako wasn't sure how to respond.
"Again, I told you, I'm going to get you to snap, and then keep you snapped until snapped is your default when you fight. So you better believe I'm going to keep pressing that button, and any other button I find to keep you angry. On top of the beatings I'm going to give you. I said hell, and I'm going to give you hell."
Ochako, after a lot of hesitation, nodded. She had been prepared for physical beatings. Knowing that now she was going to also have to endure a phycological one as well really made her nervous. But to be fair it was a physiological trigger, her fear of losing Izuku to Himiko, that got her to snap during the Sports Festival. So she supposed this made sense, "Okay. I'm ready to keep going."
"Good. We got you angry, now we gotta work on some control," Miruko said as she tossed the bucket away and got into a fighting stance. When Ochako got into hers Miruko's smile turned smug, "So tell me Uraraka. What's the deal with that shrimpy green crutch you used during your Sports Festival."
...This fucking bitch!
