Winds of Change
Chapter 06: The Tourney of Harrenhal
AN: I'll come right out and admit that this chapter is ahead of schedule and pretty much wrote itself. The chapter is shorter than usual for me but I honestly just wanted to get through it because I don't really care about the tournament itself but it is important for background. That said I'll be wrapping up these prologue chapters soon so I can get to the main story but this was necessary to set up the world in the way I needed it. Anyway with that said here is the new chapter.
Start Now:
Aerys Targaryen was mad, there was no escaping that fact and even he knew that there was something wrong with him. He knew that there was something clouding his mind as it often felt as if he was operating through fog and his thoughts were sluggish. Other times it was worse and felt as if he himself was not the one in control of his body and as such the words that escaped him or even his actions were not truly his own. He could push through such an impairment though it often left him exhausted and he generally didn't do such a thing unless something was important. He couldn't count the number of times he'd been forced to exert that ability to protect his wife and children from whatever devil possessed him over the last few years.
He had however grown up in Kings Landing and despite his impairment and that fact that he had not initially been directly in line to inherit the throne he was still cagey enough to recognize when people were trying to use him. This was the reason he'd ordered his wife and children to keep the fact that they had magic to themselves, such a gift was a boon to a Targaryen and only made his pride in his family grow.
It was also thanks to Rhaegar that he suspected that his madness was no accident, as he knew that the Faith of Seven and Maester's of the Citadel had been working against his house since the Conquest. As it was he felt that it was only thanks to an old Valyrian blessing ritual that Rhaegar discovered years ago that his family had become so blessed with magic. He knew this as truth as he had felt the magic in himself become alive back then, which was how he was currently fighting off the worst of the madness.
All of this however had led him to the current moment where he stood in his rooms overlooking the grounds of Harrenhal. His meeting with Rhaegar had proven enlightening and had left him with much to contemplate. He and Rhaella had definitely been working hard and their plans were certainly ambitious. Sending the twins to Volantis was an inspired decision and would not only aid in Rhaella's plans but would et them away from the monster that dwelt inside of him as well, he would have to amend the plan however to include Viserys as well. Though only five namedays he'd have to wait a few years but then he could send him to learn as a page under Daeron. His thoughts on the matter were interrupted by a knock on the door catching his attention. Granting entrance he was greeted to the sight of Ser Gerold Hightower, Ser Barristan Selmy and Ser Arthur Dayne.
"You wanted to speak with us your grace?" questioned Ser Gerold as he entered.
"Yes, sit." Said Aerys getting confused looks from the knights who did as bid in chairs beside the desk that had been provided for him in his room. Moving over to the desk Aerys took his own seat behind it before looking upon them all with serious eyes.
"There will be troubling times ahead. I am growing tired; my magic is strained and my body weary. I fear it is only a matter of time before I lose the last of my strength and once that happens I will be truly lost to the madness. Once that happens it will only be a matter of time before an all-out war breaks out." Started the king surprising the three men.
"If this is the case surely something can be done to prevent it." Said Ser Barristan
"Both Rhaegar and Rhaella have tried but we have passed the point where I can be saved. Much like our dragons my houses enemies have already done the damage they needed with me." Said Aerys a sound of resignation in his tone.
"Before things get too bad however there will be some changes. Rhaegar has discovered Queen Visenya's original plans for your Order, and we will implement some of them."
As he said this he picked up a pair of scrolls that had been siting on the desk and handed it to Ser Gerold.
"I want you to look over this and with your brothers figure out which of these ideas would be feasible. I have already indicated some I agree with on the second. I'd like your answer the day before we depart for Kings Landing."
As Lord Commander of the Kingsguard giving the scroll to Ser Gerold was only right. Still the task ahead was daunting for all three of the knights, the Knights of the Kingsguard were the highest order of knights in the Seven Kingdoms and the rules had never once been changed since the founding of the order.
"Aside from that I have missions for all of you." Said Aerys a smile that was full of cunning gracing his features.
Later in the morning as the sun began its climb to its perch the grounds of Harrenhal were already full of activity. Early risers all the Northerner's had all been up and breaking their fast before most had even stirred other than servants. The Starks were no exception to this and following their meal had taken to the training yard to watch as their people went about their training. Joining them had been Elbert Arryn who had returned to the Vale after he'd completed his training. He was one of the few who had reached the 8th rank of their system called a Commander despite his youth.
He didn't have as much experience as Brandon Stark however who was at the 9th rank of War Lord which he'd gained thanks to his many campaigns in other lands. Also joining the Starks for everyone to see where the direwolves and while the pups were cute and playful their parents gave many pause though unless looking after the pups the adult wolves hardly ever left the sides of the Lord and Lady Stark.
After leaving the training fields the group had made there way to the arena for the melee. The twins and Viserys had been the first of the Targaryens to arrive and had been instantly taken in by the wolf pups. The adult wolves had indulged them for a small bit before turning their attention away from them. Of course there was a bit of confusion among the Northerner's as none of them had been allowed to enter the melee, Lord Stark had told them all that there was no need as they would be well represented.
While they had accepted it there was much grumbling as many of the wolves had wanted to take the opportunity to smack around the southerners. Brandon had been among the more vocal to air out his disappointment as apparently he'd wanted to have Lyanna fight along with a few other people. Not long after this however came the arrivals of Prince Rhaegar and Princess Elia followed soon after by the King and Queen who called for the melee to begin.
Before the announcement of the teams many were surprised when he announced that the event would be held without horses though that was pushed aside in anticipation for the event to begin. One kingdom at a time the herald announced the participants of the melee, each kingdom with seven participants. For the Stormlands there was Lord Robert Baratheon, Ser Arron Buckler, Ser Ronas Swann, Ser Kerrith Staedmon, Lord Jon Connington, Ser Braedon Dondarrion and Ser Blane Penrose. From Dorne were Prince Doran Martell, Ser Tavion Blackmont, Ser Ashtor Allyrion, Ser Elden Fowler, Ser Tomas Dayne, Ser Liram Santagar and Ser Hector Toland. The next to take the field were from The Vale which included Lord Yohn Royce, Ser Alfered Belmore, Ser Edwin Corbray, Ser Vincent Grafton, Lord Sighard Redfort, Ser Myles Templeton and Ser Joffrey Melcolm.
Following them were the knights of the Westerlands including Ser Kevan Lannister, Ser Daman Marbrand, Ser Gregor Clegane, Ser Lawren Crakehall, Ser Arthur Lefford, Ser Patrack Payne and Ser Jarrick Westerling. From the Riverlands were Ser Brynden Tully, Ser Simon Whent, Ser Jon Darry, Ser Gerrad Vance, Ser Bryce Strong, Ser Dustan Piper and Ser Dwan Mallister. From the Reach were Lord Randyll Tarly, Lord Paxtor Redwyne, Ser Uther Ashfort, Ser Gawain Fossoway, Ser Wayland Hightower, Ser Jaxon Florent and Ser Rory Crane. Finally came the representatives for the Crownlands which surprisingly included 'The White Bull' Ser Gerold Hightower and 'Barristan the Bold' Ser Barristan Selmy of the Kingsguard along with Ser Clatton Ryker, Ser Duncan Stokeworth, Ser Colin Sunglass, Ser Vanor Celtigar and Ser Jaelar Velaryon.
"Due to an edict by our King the North shall be represented by only a single warrior." Called the herald much to the surprise of the crowd.
"Hailing from the distant land Yohai and currently residing in Winterfell is the Sage of Mount Myoboku and the current leader of the norther warriors known as the Fangs of Fenrir, representing the North is Lord Jiraiya Senju the Gallant."
As he entered the arena many people were getting the first look at the man who was apparently the figure behind and leading the North's training program and warrior company. He was tall and well-built with white hair that was a lighter shade than what even the Targaryens were known for. His hair though spikey was long and actually fell to his waist and was tied back into a ponytail with shoulder length bangs framing his face. Her wore dark grey robes and the only armor to be seen was a shoulder pauldron and a pair of bracers on his arms.
"He'd better make this quick. I have no desire to watch him play around all day." Said Tsunade from her position next to Sakura in the royal booth.
"He just might, it's been a long time since Lord Jiraiya has fought anyone even half seriously." Said Sakura.
"Is he truly that strong?" questioned Princess Kiara.
"Lord Jiraiya is a living legend; his story is comparable most closely with Ser Duncan the Tall." Said Sakura surprising everyone surrounding them.
"As big of a fool that he can portray himself as Jiraiya is not to be trifled with. He's an elite warrior and teacher training two of our village leaders earning himself the moniker Trainer of Heroes and Shadows." Said Tsunade.
"Shadows?" questioned Rhaella.
"In our home village the leader is called the Hokage which means Fire Shadow in your language. Jiraiya has turned the position down multiple times but trained both the 4th and 7th Hokage's." explained Tsunade
"He also married the Fifth." Said Sakura grinning.
"Speaking of training perhaps you and I should visit the training field. You've been spending so much time watching over these royals I wonder if your evasion is still up to par." Said Tsunade
"I'll be good." Said Sakura quickly grin falling from her face as she turned to face the field and began to slowly rock in place as visions of well-remembered pain came to her despite the thousands of years since they happened.
Down on the field Jiraiya was ignoring the curious eyes on him, more interested in the conversation between his wife and her old apprentice in all honesty than the knights around him. After all even incased as he was in this mortal shell the people of this land were no threat to him. Perhaps a couple would prove interesting if he were to engage on their level in a duel of swords but he'd have to hold himself back too much and they were simply too slow to keep up with him.
"Let's make this interesting." Said Jiraiya surprising the field.
"Should any of you manage to best a member of the Kingsguard I'll pay you 200 Dragons. Anyone who can best me however I'll pay 1000." Said the Sage.
"You sure you want to do that Lord Jiraiya?" questioned Ser Gerald.
"It's not like I won't fight back. Most of you aren't strong enough for me to take seriously, this will at least make it interesting if you come at me together." Said Jiraiya
"You don't even have a weapon!" shouted a Stormlander
"There's no need, you all have provided me plenty should I need one." Said Jiraiya
"BEGIN"
With the shout of the herald the knights were set loose and Jiraiya soon found himself being rushed by a trio of men, one from the Stormlands, Riverlands and the Vale respectively. Dodging the thrust of the Stormlander by stepping forward at the last second he forced him upon the Valeman who was forced to hastily dodge out of his way while Jiraiya stepped into the rushing Riverlander grabbing his raised right arm with his left hand stopping the sword before it could descend and grabbing him by the throat before slamming him into the ground causing him to gasp in pain. Rising he turned his attention back on the other two stepping in close to the Valeman, too close for his sword to matter before nailing him with a right hook to the jaw that dropped him in place. Spinning away he leapt into the air flipping and grabbing the head of the Stormlander before planting him into the ground upon landing.
As he stood up to his full height once more there was a stunned silence from most of the crowd as the realize he'd just beaten three men with his bare hands all of them knights and all within 30 seconds. Those who had written the man off had immediately been forced to revise their opinions as his threat level rose considerably. Of course the Northerners already knowing of his ability were far from surprised and while they weren't cheering absurdly they were all sitting up and paying attention chatting excitedly as their mentor put on a display.
Normally they melee of any tourney was a scene of absolute carnage whether it was done on foot or as is more often the case was mounted. Jiraiya's offer of dragons however on top of the winner's purse had put that notion down and created three targets which all of the other men were gunning for. As such Jiraiya and the Crownlanders due to the presence of the Kingsguard had all of the focus of the gathered knights on them.
While the regular crownland knights were soon overwhelmed by the numbers Ser Barristan and Ser Gerold showed that there was a level of difference between the Kingsguard and everyone else as they dispatched their challengers. Knowing of the additional target on their backs thanks to Jiraiya's bounty the Kingsguard Knights put on a clinic that showed off not only their skill, but speed, strength and efficiency.
Another standout was the Storm Lord Robert Baratheon who despite not being the greatest with a sword was good enough to take out ten men before being put out of the fight by Jiraiya. The sage himself left those watching in awe as one by one he dispatched his challengers with ease and all without using a weapon. Instead he displayed how someone could use their body as a weapon dispatching people with fist and feet.
Robert Baratheon would not be the only noble that he would dispatch as Kevan Lannister, The Blackfish, Yohn Royce and Randyll Tarly had also shared the fate. The other noticeable name he would encounter was the young Gregor Clegane who he hit in the torso so hard it left a large dent in his armor before he'd punched him in the face so hard blood and a pair of teeth flew from his mouth before he fell to the ground unconscious.
In the end the last three standing were Jiraiya, Ser Barristan and Ser Gerold. It was only then that Jiraiya chose to use a blade picking up a discarded sword before giving it a few test swings. Both knights experienced as they were knew he had done so more as a show of respect of their abilities than for any other reason and it was also clear he was more than fair with this particular kind of weapon. Ser Barristan was the first to approach and was immediately on the attack his blade a blur as it cut through the air. The clash of blades rung out over the arena as they crossed before both men were in motion as they danced over the grounds.
Those watching couldn't help but be impressed as they could only describe the action as a dance of death, for nearly ten minutes they pushed each other without pause before Jiraiya suddenly sped up and the Kingsguard found himself disarmed with a blade poised to run him through. There was a long silence as those gathered including the knight himself came to grips with not just what happened but how quickly it was over. Eventually the knight regained his senses and voiced his surrender before Jiraiya returned his sword to him. As the defeated knight moved away it left only Ser Gerold.
"So now that you have finished testing them would you mind telling me your opinion." Said Ser Gerold causing Jiraiya to smirk.
"After we finish." Said the Sage.
In an instant they were clashing as Ser Gerold took immediately to the offence each attack meant to disable or kill and all of them were either evaded, parried or blocked by Jiraiya. Their bodies were in constant movement and while he pressed the attack it was clear to every experienced swordsman that the two appeared to be only testing each other out the battle had already begun in earnest. From Ser Gerold there was none of the fancy but useless displays of twirls of the blade or spinning attacks that would open him up to a counterattack. Instead theirs was a contest of strength, skill and agility as the two men went at each other.
As they clashed Ser Gerold could tell that his opponent was holding back however he had expected it. Over the years he'd sparred more than a few times with Lord Sasuke who hailed from the same land as Lord Jiraiya, he also knew that Jiraiya was a legend before Lord Sasuke and Lady Sakura were even born and was capable of using combat magic and had his own combat style that was unique to him and his select chosen apprentices.
As such he took no slight to the man holding back and engaging him in a pure sword duel. He could also tell that Jiraiya was allowing him to lead the battle as though he would attack he was mostly on the defensive, and it was how he'd been for most of the contest. He never attacked first instead he acted on mistakes or openings and finished his encounters swiftly. He however wasn't like everyone else on the field he was 'The White Bull' Ser Gerold Hightower the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and though older than everyone else on the field and considered out of his prime he was still not a man to be reckoned with.
For nearly twenty minutes they engaged in what many of those watching considered a masters class as everything was covered proper distance, footwork, angles of attack and defense, caution and even punches were thrown until it was ended when the two clashed and their swords broke throwing Ser Gerold off balance due to the strength behind his attack allowing Jiraiya to trip him taking him to the ground and planting his broken blade beside Ser Gerold's head as placed a knee in his back pinning him in place.
"The winner of the melee is Lord Jiraiya of the North" called the herald breaking the silence that had overtaking the arena.
The Northerners were a proud and rowdy bunch in the aftermath of the melee. While this was normally the case anyway the impromptu party they threw in their section of the grounds after the event lasted will into the night not tapering out until the hour of the bat. Most everyone woke with pounding headaches the next morning as bottles of wine, ale, mead and harder spirits had been nearly free flowing. The festive atmosphere had seen many a visitor over the course of its run including the Martells and Targaryens and their Kingsguard escorts. Princesses Lyanna and Elia had been evacuated to their rooms in the Wailing Tower by Ser Arthur and Ser Oswell at some point during the night where deep in their cups they'd started publicly kissing and groping each other in full view of anyone who'd been paying attention. Jiraiya and Tsunade having grown to be no strangers to drunken revelry would probably fucked in clear view if not for Lady Sakura's quick intervention of challenging her old teacher to a drinking contest. Tsunade won and Jiraiya not wishing to be blocked again took her back to their own rooms.
Brandon Stark had truly enjoyed the celebration the night before. Unfortunately he'd enjoyed himself a bit too much judging by the pounding of his head and the fact that he vomited when he went to piss. Thankfully there was a jug of water waiting for him on a table in his room and he drained two glasses before he felt his thirst dissipate.
"Pour me a glass as well."
The voice had him freezing in place as he turned towards it. The speaker was a woman, who was sitting rather casually in the bed with her bare breast exposed. She had dark hair to match his own through hers was straight whereas his would curl even short as it was. Her eyes were an alluring violet color and as he stared at her in surprise she slid easily out of the bed and approached him completely disregarding her nudity.
"Judging by your stare I'd say I put in a better performance than the last time we fucked." Said the woman, who he recognized as Lady Ashara Dayne.
"Last time?" questioned Brandon absently as his eyes followed her body drinking in every detail.
"Remember last time we made off to a tent on the grounds. I wasn't as active that time though, I got some practice to impress you this time through." Said the lady.
"You remember?" questioned Brandon in surprise.
"I do. I have for a while now. So how about today we stay inside and get to know each other again. I imagine both our lives were different this time through." Said Ashara.
"You won't be missed?" questioned Brandon.
"Elia knows I'm here." Said the woman causing Brandon's eyes to narrow.
"My lady would I be correct in guessing that you are the reason the Queen asked to hold off on any betrothals for me."
"You would. We both know that I'd make a much better wife for you than that trout ever would have."
Princess Lyanna's room had become crowded fairly quickly. When she awoke she had still been in a bit of a pleasure haze from her time with Elia the previous night, she'd left rather than stay with her through the night. Regardless she'd taken the start for a lazy morning and had just put on a robe before calling for her bath to be filled. There was a team of men that brought in a large bucket and filled the tub under the watchful eyes of her Stark guards before she was left in piece.
She waited a few minutes for the water to cool before actually getting inside however and had been content to just sit and relax before her door had been opened and her ladies had come in to help her dress. Not long later both Elia and Shaena had arrived hoping someone was there who could braid hair, apparently outside of Elia herself there weren't many in Kings Landing that could do it well and quickly as most wore there hair in simple styles there.
That was how Princess Shaena Targaryen and Princess Elia Martell found themselves sitting in chairs as their hair was braided by Soniya Mormont and Jaide Karstark. Of course the two princesses had brought their own ladies as well and as such there were now ten people total within her room along with her direwolf Havoc who had eyed all the girls for a while before lying back down. The conversation had been constant and flowed easily ranging from the cuteness of Havoc, jealousy over said direwolf and of course commiserating on why certain family symbols hadn't been picked better. The conversation had then drifted to the differences in the customs of there respective peoples and cultures.
Eventually or inevitably considering who Lyanna's friends are and the Dornish contingent the topics became devolved into gossip, something Lyanna truly had no interest in. Of course seeing as they were at a tourney it was no surprise they eventually started talking about the knights in attendance. The conversation mostly boiled down to who was handsome, who wasn't, who wasn't and their virtues or lack thereof and while she participated she didn't really care for the subject.
"Honestly Jaide I don't see how you could be interested in an Andal, knight or not. They're all so self-righteous and full of hypocrisy." Said Aline Umber shaking her head.
"So your not curious, not even a little?" questioned Jaide.
"No. I'd sooner let one of the free folk steal me than marry an Andal let alone fuck one." Said Aline
"Your friend has a point. Andal's aren't really much fun, especially not when it comes to fucking. They'll just lay on top of you and rut for a few minutes before its over." Said one of Elia's handmaidens by the name of Taniya Fowler.
"It's their religion." Said Saenelys Celtigar who was both one of Shaena's handmaidens and her best friend.
"That's rude." Said Shaena.
"Perhaps but it may be true. None of our people follow the Seven Faith. Some of us may be lip service sometimes but none of us follow them. the North still follows the Old Gods and the Dornish follow the River Gods." Said Manaehra Velaryon
Like Shaena herself both of her handmaidens had the blood of Old Valyria flowing through their veins. Though neither house Celtigar nor Velaryon had been dragon riders they'd always been vassals of House Targaryen who had been. Elia at 24 was the eldest of those in the room and the only one who was considered fully blossomed in her adult form. Despite this all of them would be considered beautiful by anyone's standard.
"Being raised by Septa's definitely doesn't help. Remember when Kate first came to Winterfell?" said Soniya
"Gods she was annoying back then. Can you imagine what she'd have been like if she'd have come North any later." Said Jaide before shaking herself as if to rid herself of the image
"As I said it's that religion of theirs." Said Saenelys.
The Archery contest took place that day and while not usually the most popular of events this would go down in legend. This event had 100 entrants and was surprising in that it saw several women had entered the contest. With each round that passed the excitement rose, word spread, and the crowds got bigger. The semifinal rounds saw three women still remaining much to the surprise of many and in the end after a stunned silence both the crowd cheered when Lady Catelyn Tully was named the champion in the final round after defeating Ser Garrick Ashford.
The event would mark the first time that multiple women reached the semifinals and the first time a woman had ever worn a contest. The fact that the young Lady was being fostered in Winterfell and was to be the next Lady Stark was missed by no one. When she was later questioned she stated that women in the North especially a Lady had to do more than run a household and needed to be useful outside of sewing and having children.
As was tradition in these events the final event was the joust which was a five-day event. Lyanna sat seated between Princess Elia and her father through the entire event and while there was a mystery knight that entered it would not be the Knight of the Laughing Tree. Instead Brandon Stark entered the list and unhorsed Ser Joras Blount, Ser Dontin Frey and Ser Kavvin Haigh much to the amusement of those who remembered the event from their past life before being defeated by Ser Barristan Selmy. The mystery knight unhorsed two knights including Robert Baratheon before falling to Ser Gerold Hightower and revealing themselves to be Eddard Stark much to the surprise of his family and countryman. Lyanna was not surprised to learn that Benjen and Howland had helped him in the act and all three had looked unrepentant when faced under her glare before she laughed and embraced all three.
Rhaegar Targaryen after going through Lord Yohn Royce, Lord Jorah Mormont, Ser Gerold Hightower and Ser Arthur Dayne had made it to the finals where he faced off with Ser Barristan Selmy. Finally after breaking two lances and going five rounds Rhaegar managed to unhorse Ser Barristan and emerge the victor. As the victor he was handed a crown of winter roses and Lyanna despite herself felt her heart clench when they were handed to Elia who was standing beside her only for her eyes to widen after the older woman accepted it in her hands and proceeded to crown Lyanna herself. There was another stunned silence before the crowd cheered led by the Northerner's in attendance.
That night at the closing feast the celebrations were once more in full swing. The Northerners were being quite sensible knowing they would be riding home and as such not going to hard with their drinking and choosing wine over their own harder drinks. Lyanna once again found herself with a full dance card though this time she did spare a dance for Robert who admitted he had tried to get Ned to sponsor a betrothal between them and that it wasn't too late to change her mind. She had graciously turned him down informing him that there were multiple reasons that wasn't a good idea and he in turn admitted that Ned told him as much.
Aside from Robert she had danced with each member of the Kingsguard, both Martell brothers, her own brothers, father, cousins and multiple bannermen but the highlight for her was when she got to share the floor with Rhaegar. Being so open about their relationship was liberating and she wished not for the first time they hadn't hid it the first time. Their attention like everyone else's was soon pulled to the Head Table where Queen Rhaella could be seen standing getting an immediate silence.
"I have a few announcements before we continue the celebration. Firstly we would like to thank Lord Whent for hosting this rather fantastic event. Personally this is the most enjoyable tourney I have ever attended thanks in no small part to the activities on the grounds." Said the Queen getting applause from the room which she allowed for nearly a minute before she raised her hand and motioned for silence.
"Secondly as the facilitator of the negotiations it is my pleasure to announce the betrothal of Prince Brandon Stark and Lady Ashura Dayne with the wedding to take place in Winterfell in five moons time."
This news was met with muttered comments and many people looking at both Brandon and Ashara in jealousy. That however was to be expected Brandon was a Prince and Lady Ashara was considered amongst the most beautiful women in all of Westeros.
"Finally at the direction of our King the wedding between Crown Prince Rhaegar and Princess Lyanna will be moved up by four moons and will once more be held in Winterfell."
Lyanna was not surprised by this and was in fact thankful. She had realized some time ago that the wedding was actually late by their timeframe however this action would put them back on track. Still she wondered why the changed had happened and determined to question Rhaegar on it later. Regardless of that however with the tourney now concluded and a success all around she was determined to enjoy her remaining time stress free and shared a few more dances with Rhaegar before retreating to her room where Elia met her. Neither fell asleep for at least another two hours but both would consider it time well spent.
AN: That's it chapters done. I know it feels more like a summary chapter but like I said before I really did just want to get through it. Don't expect the next chapter to be out so quickly though, I'm working on a few other projects right now. Anyway thanks for reading and please review. Till next time, LATER.
