I need to know what people want to see for my next story. How would you guys feel about an AU and OOC Preyna story? I've never seen one of those before. But again, let me know! :)
Reviews:
IsItReallyTho: Haha, yes, I do update pretty often. Not as often as I would like to, but I'm happy to know that you find it sufficient! I hate stories that barely update. I remember back when I first started, I was thinking about updating everyday. Yeah, that was a bad idea... Anyways, I'm glad you liked that Preyna interaction. It was super fun to write, and not like anything I've done before. Also, yeah, I should've figured that was the reason for you reviewing more than once. Thank you!
Apollo117mc: All I can really say to that is thank you!
Okay, that was a long Author's Note. If you actually read them, thank you! If you don't, eh, I don't blame you. Okay, let's begin! ( Disclaimer: I don't own Reyna, or Percy, or any body else!)
Reyna's POV
Reyna woke up with a graceful stretch, which was very unlike her. Maybe it was a result of that amazing dream she'd had the night before...
She felt giddy thinking about it. The gist of it was that she and Percy had spent pretty much a whole day just kissing, cuddling, and doing couple-ish things. She wondered if it that would ever be reality. She sure hoped so...
But with Annabeth in the picture, that was an issue. Reyna didn't like to think of the daughter of Athena as competition, but it was hard not to. She liked Annabeth and admired her qualities, but she'd never been more jealous of someone in her life.
She wanted Percy. More than she would admit. And Reyna was almost sure that Percy wanted her, too.
Reyna got out of bed and put on her watch. Her mind replayed the night before, and butterflies took flight in her stomach. It was unlike any experience she'd ever had with Percy, and Reyna wanted to relive it over and over again.
She wondered if Percy had ever done anything that intimate with Annabeth. She didn't want to be nosey and ask Percy what his usual romantic moment with Annabeth consisted of, but she was genuinely curious.
If she asked, would Percy tell her? Probably not. That was none of her business.
Reyna replayed her dream once more in her head and resisted the urge to sigh. Since when did she become a girly romantic?
Ever since you saw Percy's abs, she thought. Blushing, she pushed that thought away. What was wrong with her?
Hormones, most likely. But why hadn't she ever felt this way towards Jason?
Jason… She knew that he was all over Piper now, but it was hard to erase the feelings she had felt for him. Reyna was into Percy now, but she couldn't deny that when she looked at Jason, she felt a little prick of affection for the son of Jupiter.
When had she first felt feelings for him anyways?
Flashbacks overtook her, but she welcomed the memories.
"All in favor of Jason Grace as praetor?" Reyna asked the gathered senate. She had just been elected herself about a month ago, and the senior praetor was retiring and heading off to college, leaving Reyna with only one option: Jason.
Almost every hand in the room was raised, giving Reyna the reassurance she needed that Jason was going to make a great leader. He was a son of Jupiter, after all. He was practically bred for this position.
Jason smiled brightly as Reyna handed him the praetors' cloak, medal, and badge. He immediatley put the cape on, and turned to Reyna.
Her breath hitched. He looked so… regal. And handsome. And totally like a child of the king of Olympus should look. She grinned shyly back.
The senate members cheered. "All hail, Jason Grace," someone shouted. A few others responded with enthusiastic shouts.
The light shining through windows caught on Jason's blond hair, making it look golden. She sighed. How would she ever get any work done with this attractive guy around?
So that's when Reyna had first caught feelings for Jason. Sure, she had seen him around camp, acknowledging him because he was a son of Jupiter, but when he had risen to centurion, Reyna had really payed attention to him. Finally, when he became her co-praetor, she had fallen hard. And gods knew if she would ever be able to undo all of that affection.
When she and Jason first started working together, Reyna had seen a future in being with Jason. Little did she know that Jason would disappear and come back with a girlfreind, no less a Greek. And then there was Percy…
Reyna headed to the bathroom, grabbing some clothes as she went. She tried to remember a time when Jason had shown her that he actually liked her. Turns out, there were several times.
"So, have you gotten used to being a praetor, yet?" Reyna asked, sitting next to Jason in the Principia.
Jason shrugged. "I'll really be tested if we ever have to face a real army. Then I'll know."
Reyna bit her lip, trying to hide her smile. She loved the duty that Jason showed. He was the perfect praetor.
"Well, I think you're doing great," Reyna offered.
Jason smiled at her, his light blue eyes twinkling. Reyna looked down. She had never felt this way. Heck, she'd never been attracted to anyone like this before. It was refreshing.
Jason cleared his throat looking back at the papers that needed signing. Reyna turned to her own, picking up a pen.
They sat like that for a little bit, signing contracts and reading requests. Most people would find it awkward, but with Jason, it felt natural.
A few minutes later, Jason cleared his throat. Reyna turned to him, sure he had something to say. He just smiled at her in a wistful way and said, "You're cute when you concentrate."
Reyna turned a bright shade of red at that comment, and laughed. "Well, you're cute when you try to awkwardly compliment me."
Jason blushed, too, and Reyna couldn't contain her smile. Maybe he really did have mutual feelings!
How foolish of her to think that. He might've liked her a little bit at the time, but he sure didn't know. She frowned at the thought, pulling her shirt over her head after discarding her pajamas.
But she couldn't help but think about what could've happened if they did end up together...
Reyna sat near the edge of the Little Tiber, watching the water flowing by. Her mind trailed to Jason, and his gorgeous icy blue eyes. She had strong feelings for him, no doubt about it. And Reyna liked to think that he had feelings for her, too.
She dipped her fingers in the water, feeling the cold current on her hand. Reyna had it bad. It was hard to get any work done when Jason was around, and whenever he looked at her, she could feel her cheeks going red.
Reyna sighed, thinking about possible futures with Jason: Going to college in New Rome together, having a family. Reyna new it was wishful thinking, but she'd been through so much difficulty in her life that she thought she deserved some good.
"You come here to think, too?" A voice spoke behind her.
She became a ball of nerves when she saw Jason sitting down next to her, his knees touching her thigh.
"Yes, sometimes," Reyna admitted. "What are you doing here?"
"Same thing you are," Jason answered. "Thinking."
Reyna sighed. "Aren't you worried?"
Jason looked at her, confused. "Worried about what?"
Reyna but her lip. "The Titan war. I mean, Mount Tam is practically our next door neighbor."
"The Titan's are stirring," Jason agreed. "Yeah, don't remind me."
Reyna smiled, looking at Jason's angular face as he stared out into the water.
"I tried getting in contact with my dad today. No reply. You must've noticed how the auguries have gone silent," Jason said.
Reyna nodded. "I'm aware. It's all Octavian ever talks about."
Jason sighed. Reyna knew how he felt. It had been a while since the legion was tested like this. And she and Jason were caught in the middle of it.
Reyna straightened her spine, huffing. "We can do this. We're praetors, remember?"
Jason stared at her, grinning. "Yeah, I remember."
Reyna wanted to move, but something was anchoring her to the ground. Jason must've felt it, too, because he just sat there, staring into Reyna's obsidian eyes. She felt the urge to lean forward, and complied. Would this be her first kiss? Could it be...?
As far as Reyna could tell, Jason leaned in, too. Feeling the pull that Reyna felt. She closed her eyes. He actually liked her! For once, something in Reyna's life would go right.
But then he pulled away, a sorry expression in his eyes. Reyna frowned, nervous. Had he just rejected her?
Jason stood. "I'd... better go. I have... a history class to teach. See ya, Reyna."
As he walked away, Reyna sat there, dumbfounded. She felt so... so... embarrassed. And that was an emotion she despised.
Reyna stood with shaky legs, wondering if she would ever shake off that feeling.
Reyna almost felt tears coming to her eyes as she relived that memory. Yes, she had brushed it off at the time, but it hurt. Rejection hurt. Love hurt.
After that experience, things had gone back to normal with Jason, though Reyna still had the impression that Jason was into her. Turns out, he hadn't, and that made Reyna's stomach clench.
The experience that she'd shared with Jason at the Little Tiber was similar to the one that she'd shared with Percy when he'd first tried to kiss her.
It was ironic. Jason had been the one to reject her, and she'd been the one to reject Percy. What was it with kisses and the Little Tiber?
Part of the reason Reyna had pushed Percy off of her when he'd tried to kiss her was because it had reminded her too much of Jason. The only difference was now she was kissing Percy willingly, and Jason was kissing Piper willingly.
Reyna was angry at Jason for leading her on for so long. It would've hurt less if he had just told her upfront that he wasn't interested.
Then Reyna thought about Percy and his adoration for her, and Reyna's anger towards Jason subsided. He had someone to love, and so did she. She did love Percy, right?
Reyna pulled on some light-wash skinny jeans, and started doing her hair. Another memory came back to her.
"Prepare your cohorts," Reyna told the gathered centurions. "We march on Mount Tam tomorrow."
The centurions nodded grimly, standing up from their seats and exiting the principia.
Reyna and Jason had just finished a meeting with the centurions planning their march on the Titan's fortress. Yes, they were anxious about it, but they knew it had to be done in order to level out the Titan war.
As soon as all the centurions left, talking quietly amongst themselves, Reyna turned to Jason. They were alone. She exhaled. Don't screw this up, she thought.
"So, do you think the legion is ready?" She asked. Reyna knew it was a stupid question, but being alone with Jason made her nervous, so…
Jason simply sighed. "There's no way to know until we are legitimately tested. This charge on Mount Tam will be a test of our strengths, that's for sure."
Reyna nodded. How did he manage to be so profound? Add that to the list of things she loved about Jason Grace. This was becoming a long list…
Reyna nodded, lowering her eyes from Jason's burning gaze. He was staring so intently at her… it was kind of unnerving. But hot.
Reyna mentally scolded herself. What was happening to her? She was smitten, and based on her luck, something was bound to go wrong because of it.
"Have you tried talking to your dad again?" Reyna asked, meeting his icy eyes.
Jason's expression fell. "Yes. Just this morning. Not even a lightning bolt. Or a gust of wind for that matter."
Reyna cursed in Spanish. "I guess we're on our own for this fight."
Jason shrugged. "I hope the gods acknowledge us by the morning."
Reyna fidgeted with her cape, hoping that at least one god would help them with their battle. As strong as the legion was, they were going against Titans for gods' sakes. A little assistance would be nice…
Reyna sat up straight. "It's like you said yesterday, 'we're praetors, remember? We can do this.'"
Jason flashed a tiny grin. "You're right. And…"
Reyna paused. What?
Jason's eyes fell, losing their contact with Reyna's eyes. "I'm sorry for brushing you off yesterday. That was uncalled for and rude."
Reyna's heart pounded. "It's… it's alright." Was he going to try and kiss her now? It was the perfect moment.
Reyna's subconscious told her to stop this wishful thinking, but she couldn't help but fantasize. What would his lips taste like?
He looked up at her. "If you-"
Jason's words were cut off by the door of the Principia opening and a sentry walking in. "Praetors, you might want to see this."
Reyna remembered that moment well. She put a hair tie around the end of the braid, leaving a few inches of her dark hair loose.
The sentry had come inside to warn them about storms brewing on Mount Tam. Even now, Reyna was filled with curiousity at what Jason might had said to her. "If you-" If you what?
Now that Reyna thought about this experience, part of her wanted to ask Jason about what he had been going to ask, now that they were on good and non-romantic terms. Would he tell her? Or maybe wth his memory being wiped, he had forgotten all together.
It had probably only been a small moment in the life of Jason Grace, but it still seemed like a significant moment for Reyna.
Reyna grabbed some white Converse and pulled them on, tying the laces quickly. She needed to get Jason out of her head.
And Percy, too. The thing about being too close to someone while in the midst of a war was that you were too worried about losing that person. If that person was in danger, you would sacrifice yourself to help them. And that was bad, especially as a praetor. It's not that Reyna was against being selfless and loyal, but with the superiority that she had, being too protective over one person could cause danger to others.
And she did not want that.
Reyna wished she was a normal teenager who attended high school and had the oppurtunity to have normal relationships. Normal boy drama, normal friends. Not wondering about how your loyalties might get someone else killed.
Reyna did a once over in the mirror, trying to shake any remaining thoughts of Jason and Percy out of her mind.
The dark eyes in her reflection peered at her intelligently. Almost as if asking how far she would go to be with Percy. She bit her lip and looked away. Why was she intimitaed by her own reflection in a mirror?
Reyna clenched her jaw, pulling on her cloak and strapping on a breastplate.
Before she left her room, Reyna lifted her chin and straightened her back, putting on her fearless leader face. It was only the slightest bit forced.
Again, I'm so sorry I got this out so late! It will never happen again. Thanks for not spewing hate and being patient. I have the best readers! (But you would be even better if you voted in the poll and reviewed…) Anyway, I had fun writing this and having Reyna reminisce about Jason. Maybe I should be a Jeyna writer, lol. Hmmm, I'm already concocting some ideas. Hehehe. Okay, I'll leave you guys be. Review, review, and REVIEW! ALSO, HAS ANYONE ELSE SEEN THE NEW PJO TRAILER FOR THE TV SERIES? IT'S SO GOOD! And the music… I CAN'T!
