Billy and I made idle chit-chat as we waited for Bella and Jacob to finish up what they were doing. When they were done, Bella and I loaded into the truck and I drove us home. "You can't tell Charlie about the bikes." Bella told me. "He'll freak out." I was about to say something but Bella started to speak before I could. "Look, I know that you and dad have fought Monsters on the regular, but I didn't inherit any of those Demi-Godly abilities."
"Bella, Dad never fought." I told her, glancing at Bella as I continued to drive. "He's nothing like his siblings. Dad was more strategic, he planed battles more than fought him, his battle formations is what saved us during the summer. I'm a fighter, Dad isn't. You…" I sighed. "You did get Demigod abilities, the strength of will and determination. You're just lucky you didn't inherit the ADHD or Dyslexia, it's so bad." Bella and I shared a laugh. "I won't tell Dad about the bikes, so long as you don't leave me at school anymore."
"Deal." I smiled as we continued home. I pulled into the driveway soon after, Dad wasn't home, so Bella and I joined forces to cook dinner. We were just pulling the fried chicken out of the pan and laying it on paper towels to cool and allow the oil to drip off it.
"Hey dad." Bella greeted, glancing back at the door as our father walked in. Dad paused, not expecting the cheerful response.
"Welcome home dad." I added.
"Hey girls." Dad greeted cautiously. "Did you have fun with Jacob?"
"Yeah, I did." Bella told him as we started to move the food to the dining table.
"Well, that's good. What did you two do?"
"I hung out in his garage and watched him work. Did you know he's rebuilding a Volkswagen?"
"Yeah, I think Billy mentioned that. What about you, Aspen? What did you do?"
"I caught up with Billy." I told him. "He's gonna call a meeting of the Elders to discuss the Battle of Manhattan." Dad nodded, and wasn't able to respond as we all started to eat. After that, we cleared away the plates, washed up and then did our homework in the lounge room with Dad as he watched a hockey game. After Dad declared it was getting late, we packed up and headed off to bed.
DREAM
"You're far from home…" A voice whispered. I looked around in the darkness, trying to find where it was coming from, but it was coming from everywhere. My heart was pounding, I hated the dark. "You're by yourself...did your friends abandon you?"
"Who are you!" I screamed. "Show yourself!" The wind picked up around my ankles and the dirt swirled into a spiral in front of me on the floor. I stepped back as a face lifted from the ground. She was beautiful, even with her eyes closed. Her mouth was closed but her voice could be heard throughout the darkness.
"I have respect for children of the Earth...Daughter of Persephone. Join me...Together...Together we can rule the world."
"No!" I clutched my head. "I won't betray my family!"
"Verry well...then you shall die! You shall become a sacrifice to the Goddess of the Earth!" Black crept in the corners of my vision…
DREAM END
...and I snapped upright in bed with a scream. I could feel tears running down my cheeks, my heart was hammering in my chest and my breath was coming out in short pants. I pulled my sheets up to my face and sobbed into them. I looked at the clock on my bedside table and saw that it was one in the morning. I took a shaky breath, and realising that I wasn't going to be sleeping again, I decided to get ready for the day. I had a shower, changed into black leggings and a flowy white shirt. I stripped my bed, shoving the sheets into the washing machine. I grabbed the last of my homework to finish before tomorrow. I turned on the kitchen light and got stuck into the work. I jumped when a hand was placed on my shoulder. I looked up and saw Dad gazing down at me with a small frown. He was already dressed for the day. "Aspen? How long have you been up?" He asked softly.
"Not long." I told him. "What time is it?"
"It's seven." My eyes widened.
"Oh..oh longer...then…" I looked down at my homework and saw that I had barely even finished the first question, what had I been doing for the past couple hours?
"What happened?" Dad asked, slipping into the seat next to me.
"I had a dream…" I didn't look at Dad. "This face rising from the dirt asking me to betray my the Gods...she said that I would be a sacrifice to the Goddess of the Earth…" I took a shaky breath. "Dad...I think something bis is coming." I looked up at him. "We have to let the Quileute Elders know."
"Quileute Elders? Why do the Elders need to know?"
"That's something for Billy to tell you. But…" I sighed again. "I know that Harry's coming up today, ask him to bring Billy and Quill Senior...we've got a lot to talk about." We heard footsteps come down the stairs and Bella appeared soon. She seemed to have slept a hell of a lot better than I had, which was a relief. After the three of us made breakfast together, we sat at the table and started to eat. Dad was glancing at Bella every once in a while.
"What are you up to today?" Dad asked Bella.
"I'm going to hang out with Jacob again." Bella told him.
"Oh…"
"Do you mind? I could stay-"
"No, no!" Dad protested, his eyes snapping up to Bella. "You go ahead, Harry was going to come up to watch the game with me anyway, but I've gotta call Billy and Quill Senior up too." Dad glanced at me. "Aspen had a dream that shook her up pretty well, and apparently she needs to talk to the Quileute elders."
"Is everything ok?" Bella asked worriedly, looking over to me. I nodded.
"Everything is fine." I assured her, reaching over and taking her hand. "Trust me." Bella looked at me for a moment before nodding.
TIMESKIP
Long after Bella left, Harry Clearwater arrived at the house with Billy and Quill Atera Senior. What surprised Dad and I was Sam, Paul and Jared. I wasn't mad to see them, because it was easier for them to meet firsthand. The group settled in the lounge room, and it was silent for a few seconds. "Ok, first of, Elders?" I looked over to them. "Do you want to explain to Dad why Sam and the others are here?"
"Yeah, why are they here?" Dad asked, his eyes flicking between the Elders and Sam's group.
"Charlie." Billy started. "Do you know of our Tribal Legends?" Dad nodded.
"Yeah, you tell me about them every month."
"The Legends are real. The Cold Ones, the Cullens-"
"Are Vampires?" Dad sighed, running his hand over his face. "And let me guess, these three are some sort of wolves?" The Quileute's in the room shared incredulous looks.
"Dad…" I trailed off with a small smile. "You might want to introduce yourself. I don't think they know who you are."
"Alright then." Dad sighed, sitting forward. "So you know who Aspen is, right? Demigoddess? Yeah, well, not only is she the daughter of Persephone, she's also the granddaughter of Ares, who's my father."
"How long have you known about the supernatural world?" Quill Sr asked.
"My whole life." Dad told him. "Went to Camp like Aspen did, don't know how you all found out about Aspen being a Demigod but I'm glad you know. But, Aspen wanted to tell us all something."
"Yeah." I sighed. "This is gonna be a big one." I went on to explain what happened the past five years, the theft of Zeus' Lightning Bolt, the poisoning of Thalia's tree and the retrieval of the Golden Fleece, my time on Mount Tamalpais (and my time holding up the literal sky), the rise of Kronos and the Battle of Manhattan. I then explained my dream to them, the Earth rising to talk to me and it's want for me to be a sacrifice.
"So the Earth wants to kill you?" Sam questioned.
"In a nutshell, yes, But, I need to let Chiron know soon, he'll know how to deal with this."
"Chiron as in...the trainer of Hero's, Chiron?" Paul asked.
"Look at you mister smart boy." I teased. "Yeah, him. He trained me, and Dad, and everyone in Camp. Without him, we'd have been useless in Manhattan. I would have died about ten times over." We sat in silence for a few moments.
"Well then." Harry said, clapping his hands together. "I think that's enough crazy talk for one day."
"I agree." Billy added. He turned to us. "Charlie, Aspen, why don't you come down to our place for dinner?"
"I'm up for it." Dad said. "If you're ok then we'll go." I nodded.
"I'm gonna be coming 'round too." Harry stated. "I'll bring Sue and the kids."
"I haven't seen Leah in ages!" I said happily. "It'll be great to catch up with her and Seth."
TIMESKIP
After Bella and Jacob joined us at the Black household, the party was in full swing. Seth was ecstatic to see me again. Leah greeted me once, but stayed glued to the phone the entire night. I loved spending time with Bella, Jake and Seth, but I couldn't help but glance back at Leah every so often. Her hair had grown long, spilling down her back and shoulders, glistening brown eyes and gorgeous copper skin. We enjoyed some delicious spaghetti, but as there wa no room for everyone at the table, so we were spread out around the house. Harry had driven Dad and I down to Billy's place, so Bella had to drive us home. On the way there, Dad pretended to be coy. "You think you'll visit any time soon?" Dad asked.
"Tomorrow, after school." Bella said. "I'll take homework, don't worry."
"You be sure to do that. What about you, Aspen?"
"I might come down to hang with Sam and the guys." I replied. "Maybe see if Leah will spend some time with me…"
"You two have fun then."
