Hello again! As Pyrrha would say back then...we all miss her. Anyways, I am back again with another Author's Note after the conclusion of Volume 2 and before Volume 3 which I am already working on so keep an eye out these days for the release. So, let's begin on the overview of Volume 2 which I had most of the volume set but wanted to see how to execute it. For starters, Volume 2 takes place during RWBY Volume 4-6 and it was a bit of a challenge to have it all come together from Team RWBY isolation from each other, Haven Academy battle, The Void, and then bringing in the Daleks as the final boss for the volume.
Originally, I was going to have the Doctor still be questioning who he truly is and what is his purpose until when I wrote the Volume 1 Finale where I thought to myself the Fall of Beacon is where the Doctor will find himself as the Doctor of Hope and Kindness. So instead, this Volume was more focused on the impact the Doctor brings especially to Team RWBY which was fun to do especially with Weiss and Blake.
Another original idea turned scrap was Weiss Schnee entire arc this volume. She wasn't originally going to have no memory of the Doctor nor her Time Angel powers. The Doctor and Weiss would have taken a break from each other before the Fall of Beacon, and it would have focused on her finding her team then the Doctor. She was however going to get her regeneration ability from the Doctor during Volume 3 but as I was writing the Weeping Angels arc, I had no idea on how I was going to conclude it or how they would be stopped until I rewatched Parting of the Ways and gave me the idea of Weiss absorbing the time vortex. And of course, it would come with the consequences which was having a Weeping Angel nearly killing her and the only way the Doctor could have saved her would be to erase her memories but also lending one of his regenerations to her. I thought this was a better way to do her arc in Volume 2 and build up their relationship as we will see more of them together in Volume 3.
This Volume we had some iconic Who monsters make their debuts in the story with the Cybermen, Slitheen, and the Daleks in which we haven't seen the last of them especially the Cybermen who will have a huge arc during Volume 3 and 4 with working with Salem AND creating more of them. If there was one thing that was a huge positive in Chibnall's Doctor Who era, it was Ashad the Lone Cyberman. The moment I saw him, I instantly wanted to add him to the story and having him play a huge role with the Cybermen. He was originally going to be alone til a good friend of mine suggested he would work with Dr. Merlot which in all honesty, helped big time! Their presence in Volume 2 while small is already bad news for the gang in Remnant and it'll be worse come Volume 3 especially after recently debuting a hybrid of Grimm and Cyber which is the Cyber Beast.
The Slitheen was the creature I wanted to bring back and do a bit differently with less of the farting comedy and bring in the thriller of them being scary creatures. I thought the best place to do it would be in the Menagerie Arc with Blake as I already had planned for the Doctor to visit her in a not so happy reunion as I wrote in those chapters. And if you read the last moments of the Volume 2 finale, you already know they're back.
The Daleks were already picked to be the big bad against the Doctor and Team RWBY as they were also going to be an important piece of Dalek Khan's character and The Doctor's nightmare of the Time War. I had a lot of fun doing the Daleks since they are my favorite Who monsters and having them go to battle turned genocide against both the Cybermen and Grimm was a no brainer.
Now, just like Volume 1 where there was big trouble before the finale, there was big trouble with higher risks that occurred before the Daleks made their presence known to Remnant, the Void. And if you already have a feeling, yes, it's literally the Flux. I know it ain't creative, but I couldn't resist! Loved the idea of the Flux and wanted to bring it in. I was trying to build it up as a universal threat which I knew how to make it better if I had more time to develop it but alas I'm still happy with it and introducing Krall who is a different alien species but with the same name as The Doctor's which is Time Lord.
And speaking of the Doctor, one of the very first ideas when making this story was there NEEDS to be an appearance by the Doctor, the Original you might say, Doctor Who himself. This, however, was not an easy task simply because I debated so much on which incarnation of the Doctor should. At first, it was going to be the 10th Doctor but then I got to the debate of going with any of the New Who Doctors because of the impact they left for Remnant Doctor. But as I decided to make Remnant Doctor about Hope and Kindness, I thought I bring in the incarnation that knows a thing or two about hope and kindness who also happens to be my favorite Doctor, the 12th Doctor himself.
NOW! As we are approaching the end of this Author's Note, a quick update on Volume 1 which is that I'm fixing it up to make it look less rushed especially during the whole Time Lord Victorious thing. I personally feel that it looks out of place and just randomly there so as I am updating each chapter of Volume 1, I will remove the Time Lord Victorious BUT that dark mindset of the time lord will return in the future which brings me to the next thing.
You all saw that Remnant Doctor and 12th Doctor got some help from some future allies. Those future allies being all 12 incarnations of the Remnant Doctor and if you noticed that one of them had silver eyes and guessed it right, it means that eventually the Doctor will regenerate to have Ruby Rose's face at some point.
OH and the order they came to take down the Void isn't in order, it's all scrambled up so have fun guessing in which order they'll come.
Last note to this and to conclude the Author's Note, The Doctor's adventures are just beginning especially with the reveal of all 12 Remnant Doctors as I am happy to announce that the Doctor's story will continue beyond Remnant starting in Volume 6 after The Doctor leaves Remnant to explore the rest of the universe all across time and space.
The Anime Whoniverse is coming so stay tuned!
And with that guys, I finish this up! Thank you for those who continue reading A Gentleman in Remnant and stay tuned for Volume 3 becuase the tension will gorw, risks will get higher, creatures will emerge, and more adventures across time and space.
