Later, the sun shining heavily around Hope Valley, Elizabeth walked into the mercantile and was heading towards the light brown colored shelves picking out ingredients in the white packets, and black glass bottles for her and Jack's dinner later this week.
"Miss Thatcher!
Elizabeth turned around at the sound of her name, Mr Yost was waving a telegram around and she walked to him while he mentioned
"This just came"
Ned handed her the telegram which was attached to a rustic brown package, tied with a brown rough string, holding it's contents together.
Elizabeth gave him a small smile, and noted the slight exasperation in his face, she gently took the piece of envelope from him and put it in her basket, while she paid for all her stuff. As soon as she was heading out, two men in red entered the door, and her eyes automatically fell to Jack's, whose eyes twinkled automatically when they got each other's attention. As Elizabeth walked by, exiting the door, which Jack held open for her, and gently squeezed his upper arm, as Jack placed his hand on Elizabeth's.
She politely greeted the other constable, and Elizabeth walked out, she headed towards the cafe and saw Abigail going up and down the cafe, holding full plates for serving customers, and she allowed herself in through the back door, as a aroma of baked food wavered around the cafe.
"Hi Abigail"
Abigail automatically turned, her ponytail gently turning as her head turned, the smile on her face growing as Elizabeth walked towards her, grabbing one of the two pans in Abigail's hand.
"Let me help"
"Oh, thank you, today seems to be much busier"
Abigail says handing over one of the pans to Elizabeth, before wiping her hand on her gray apron, which color has dimmed over the years Abigail has used it for.
"Because of the new railroad, a lot of workers are hungry. I heard the new manager has a lot of people, and someone is always on the clock."
Abigail nodded, and let out a sigh, pushing a strand of hair behind her hair, which had fallen out of her ponytail which was always tightly tied, in the morning. But after the hustle and bustle of the morning rush, some strands of golden locks falling loose from her tight ponytail to the sides of her cheeks.
Elizabeth grabbed an egg and cracked it open in the pan, before placing the yellow contents in the pan. They worked in mutual silence before Elizabeth left, remembering the test the kids did yesterday.
Elizabeth departed, went to her house, and sat down at her desk, and started pulling out big thick sheets of paper when her eyes came upon the telegram on top of everything. She took everything out of her basket, placed it on the table, when her eyes fell upon the picture of her and Jack, and she felt the color rise to her cheeks.
She forced herself to peel her eyes away from the image and carefully opened the telegram. As soon as she read the first few words her heart started beating harder, she felt herself staggering as she got off her desk and felt herself waiver. Something that neither Jack nor Abigail nor any of her family knows, when she was younger she was pressured to do some stuff for her family(she hated the idea,), being rich has got some cons, and now it has came back to haunt them, and that forced her to have a panic attack.
Elizabeth didn't know what to do, her breath was getting staggered, her vision was blurred with clouds, as water filled up her blue eyes, and her knees gave in, and she crumpled onto the floor, pressing one hand to her chest, hoping to stop her racing heart. She couldn't hear anything, and she slowly got herself up, went to the outhouse, and threw up all her insides until the feeling subsided, when it did, she grabbed a cloth and started wiping the tears of her eyes. She has no idea what to do next, tries to think of different ways she can go she knows. She had to leave hope valley.
As soon as the tears down her cheeks dried out, she slowly walked to the Jail looking around hope valley, enjoying it before it was taken away from here.
She stepped into the Jail, saw Jack in his light blue shirt, with his suspenders over his shoulders, who was sitting at his desk but stood as soon as he saw her. The smile on his face almost broke her heart. She didn't want to leave him.
She walked up to him, pulled the gray string behind him, closing the blinds, sweeped the papers off Jack's desk. As Jack lifted her up on the table, she stretched out her arms and grabbed Jack by pulling him close to her. She wrapped her legs around his waist, and gasped as Jack moved his body up against hers, his hands snaking up her skirt to her hips. She stretched her waist, pulling Jack closer. She pressed her lips gently against his. But the passion grew, Jack's hands in her hair, and their heads moving against each other, for more space.
Their breaths were getting ragged, and their kisses became slower until they stopped, but remained pressed against each other, enjoying the feeling of each other's lips. They broke apart. Elizabeth kept her eyes shut, foreheads pressed against each other as her legs lowered against Jack's, their shoes brushing against each other.
Jack took a step back and allowed Elizabeth to get off the desk, Elizabeth knelt down and grabbed her papers and placed them on his desk.
"You alright?"
Jack said, before taking a seat at his desk, glancing up at her.
Elizabeth smiled, hope that Jack doesn't' see right through her
"I just love you"
Jack grinned at that
"I love you too"
Elizabeth turned on her heels and went straight home. She sat down on the couch uncertain what to do, in the packet was a ticket straight to union city. Elizabeth's head was turning. She was leaving the life behind she thought she would spend the rest of her life in. Elizabeth went upstairs and started packing everything around the house, all her clothes and books. She had two full brown suitcases, which she struggled with but was able to lift down the stairs, holding them by the handles at the top.
Her eyes fell upon the pictures of her and Jack around the room, and her eyes watered as she carefully put them in her suitcase, wrapping them with newspaper first, ensuring the glass frames with the wooden borders would not break. Amidst that, she changed into more suitable clothes for traveling, as she would be traveling to union city than to hamilton. Wearing a simple navy blue skirt, with a gray shirt, tucked in tightly with her skirt which fell to just above her ankles. In her hands, she held a simple buttoned gray coat, comfortable to be worn for hours in a row.
Elizabeth gazed around the house, remembering all her memories, when her gaze fell upon the blank sheets of papers and envelopes on her desk, and sat carefully on her chair, for what she thought was the last time and wrote a letter to Abigail & Rosemary. The words slipped out, her quill moving across the paper. But when she came to the third letter to Jack, she sighed.
She dipped her long sharp quill into the black quill, gently bringing it to the blank sheet and slowly wrote the letter, ignoring her surroundings, and focusing on the important facts she wants….she needed to tell Jack before leaving, realizing that their story was abruptly ending. (Or so she thought)
Dear Jack,
This is a letter which I wish I never wrote. I'm so grateful for all the memories we had the past 3 years, you are truly the love of my life. I don't think I will ever experience what I experienced with you. This love that we shared…I wish things turned out differently, I really do. I just want to say how grateful I am to be loved by you, and I hope you know how much I do love you, and I was definitely unhappy, when I saw my future was written out by someone else.
I can't tell you more, I wish I could, I wish I could take you along with me, and I know you would have if I told you the situation. But I just can't. Please move on for me, Jack. I wish you all the happiness in the world. I love you so much. It hurts so much writing this, which is why I can't say a farewell to you, because I know, it's going to be even harder.
I have to leave. I can't tell you why. I can't tell you where. I'l be moving from place to place. I don't know when I will come to Hope Valley, or if I will even be back. My replacement should be here in the next couple of days.
I love you Jack Thornton, to eternity and back. I can't even write how sorry I am that things turned out this way.
I love you,
Elizabeth.
Shakily, she folded the paper in half and placed it in the envelope, wrote Jack's name on the other side and put it on the coffee table. She looked at the small clock, only 8pm. She couldn't leave. There were still people around, and she knew Jack's night rounds were around this time.
