Ash: Chapter 7-The Starter Squad
The Pokegang are wandering through a forest. For whatever reason Ash is leading
"Don't worry. I'm positive this way will lead us back to the path." Ash says
"Positive huh?" Alex asks
"That's what you said an hour ago. I'm tired!" Misty moans
She stops walking
"I told you to stick to the main road but you had to take a shortcut!" She shouts at Ash
"I took a shortcut? It was you who said to go this way!" Ash shouts back at her
"Ha! If I was leading then we wouldn't have gotten lost like this!"
"Who says we're lost?" Ash shouts
"Listen genius if you don't know where you are or where you're going that means you're lost!" Misty shouts
"Let's calm down everyone." Brock says
"Fine, but remind me to yell some more if we ever get to Vermilion City." Misty says angrily
"Will do." Alex replies, "Now how about we take a break from all this walking?"
"That's a good idea." Brock says, "There's some big rocks over there we can rest on for a few minutes"
The five of them head over to the rocks and sit down
"It's good to be off my feet." Misty says
"How much food do we have left?" Ash asks Brock who checks his bag
"We should still be good for a few more days." Brock replies
"Assuming we figure out how to get back onto Route 24" Alex says
"We should have left markings like bread crumbs or something." Ash says
"The Pidgey would have eaten them." Misty says
"Oh right..." Ash says
Oddish
Everyone looks towards the sound. An Oddish is drinking some water nearby
"Oh wow an Oddish!" Ash says excitedly and pulls out his Pokedex
Oddish the Weed Pokemon. A Grass/Poison type. During the daytime, Oddish buries itself in soil to absorb nutrients from the ground using its entire body. The more fertile the soil, the glossier its leaves become. Oddish evolves into Gloom. This Oddish is Male
"I'm gonna catch it." Ash says. However Misty suddenly rushes infront of him
"No way. I'm gonna catch it." Misty says
"What? No fair Misty I saw it first." Ash says
"Come on Ash. I haven't caught a single Pokemon since we started travelling together. Let me have this one." Misty says
"Ugh fine go ahead." Ash says
"Yes! Go Starmie!" Misty throws her pokeball
Hoo!
"Starmie use Rapid Spin!" Misty shouts
Starmie starts spinning and slams into poor Oddish who didn't even realize they were there
Oddish!
Oddish is sent flying by the attack and hits the ground hard. Misty pulls out a pokeball and throws it towards Oddish...when suddenly a vine knocks the pokeball away
"What?" Misty says confused
Bulbasaur!
A Bulbasaur leaps infront of Oddish. It glares at Misty
"A Bulbasaur!" Misty shouts confused. Ash scans it
Bulbasaur the Seed Pokemon. A Grass/Poison type. There is a plant seed on its back right from the day this Pokémon is born. The seed slowly grows larger. Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur. This Bulbasaur is Male
"I always wanted a Bulbasaur!" Ash shouts
"Hey it's still my turn!" Misty shouts at him. "Starmie use Rapid Spin on Bulbasaur!"
Starmie spins towards Bulbasaur who swings it's vines smacking the Mysterious Pokémon out of midair.
"Starmie!" Misty shouts
Bulbasaur lifts Oddish onto his head and takes off running
"Bulbasaur come back!" Ash yells at him, "I want to catch you!"
But Bulbasaur keeps going
"We need to go after it!"
The Pokegang are staring at a wooden rope bridge which is above a river
"Bulbasaur must have gone across that bridge!" Ash shouts
"That doesn't really look safe Ash." Brock says
"Yeah maybe we shouldn't go over the bridge located in the middle of nowhere." Alex says
"Nonsense! We are Pokemon trainers! We face the unknown head on! Onwards!" Ash shouts and trots along. The others follow along, Misty behind Ash, Alex behind Misty, and Brock behind Alex.
"I bet there are Bulbasaur all over this place!" Ash shouts excitedly.
The wind is starting to pick up
"I wish someone could tell us what is this place." Misty says
The wind is getting stronger. The bridge is starting to rock slightly
Brock examines his map
"I can't find anything on the map." Brock says
the bridge suddenly starts getting blown around roughly
"Aaah!" Everyone screams
The rope snaps and they start falling. Ash manages to grab onto the rope while Misty and Pikachu cling onto him for dear life. Alex manages to grab onto a slab of wood while Brock clings onto him.
"Ash pull us up!" Misty yells
Pikapi!
"I'm trying!" Ash yells
"I can't hold on!" Brock yells. He loses his grip and falls into the river
"Brock!" Ash, Alex and Misty yell as Brock is swept away
"I'm coming Brock!" Alex shouts and dives off the bridge
"Alex no!" Ash yells as Alex is also swept away by the river
Ash, Misty and Pikachu have managed to get back onto solid ground. The three of them are taking deep breaths
"Whew I'm totally wiped out." Ash says
"We can't rest now we need to find Alex and Brock." Misty says
The three of them have gone down to the side of the river. They are rushing along looking for any signs of Alex and Brock when the ground suddenly gives way beneath Misty
"Aah!"
Ash and Pikachu look back and see that Misty has fallen into a pit trap
"What's a trap doing here!" She shouts angrily
"This is just not our day." Ash mumbles
"Just help me up!" Misty yells at him
The three of them are carrying on down the river
"Brock!" Misty shouts
"Alex!" Ash shouts
Pipika! Pikachu!
Misty's foot suddenly gets caught in something
"Huh?"
And then they are suddenly trapped in a net and suspended in the air
"How did we get up in a tree!" Ash shouts confused
"It's another trap! Do something!" Misty yells
Ash tries to reach for his pokeballs but there's no space to move
"I can't reach them! Hey Sandshrew! Pidgeotto! Could you guys help?" Ash yells
Meanwhile inside the pokeballs Sandshrew and Pidgeotto are both sleeping
"It's no use." Ash says depressed
"Try wiggling! Maybe we can get the trap loose!"
Ash and Misty start wiggling but nothing happens
"This is dumb!" Ash yells
"If you have any better ideas then let's hear them!" Misty yells back at him
Bulbasaur!
They look down and see Bulbasaur watching them
Bulba Bulbasaur
Bulbasaur starts walking away. Ash starts wiggling more fierciely
"Hold it Bulbasaur! I want a match!" Ash shouts
"Now you're wiggling too much! Ouch you kicked me!"
"Bulbasaur!"
Team Rocket have spotted the bridge in the distance
"The village should be just beyond that bridge." Jessie says
"Let's hope the rumours are true" James says
"Hmm the bridge seems to be broken." Meowth says
"So? We have a hot air balloon." Jessie says
"Yeah about that...I accidentally popped it earlier." Meowth admits sheepishly
Ash, Misty and Pikachu have given up trying to escape
"I wonder what happened to Alex and Brock." Ash says
"I wonder too." Misty says
"Maybe the river carried them far away. All the way to the ocean. Then some pirates spotted them and brought them to their ship. And one of the pirates has a wooden leg." Ash says daydreaming
"You have a crazy imagination." Misty says judgingly
Pikachu
Ash smirks at her. "Then came the storm"
"Ahoy!"
They look down shocked to see Brock
"It's Brock!" Ash shouts
"Why are you hanging around up in that tree?" Brock asks
"Just get us down from here!" Misty shouts
Brock takes out a knife and cuts the rope causing the net to fall
"Ouch!" Ash and Misty shout
Pikachu!
"Maybe a little gentler next time Brock." Misty says
"Right sorry." Brock apologizes
"We've been looking all over for you." Misty says
"And where's Alex? What happened?" Ash asks
"While I was being washed away in the rapids-" Brock begins his tale
Flashback
"Aaah!" Brock screams. He starts sinking under the water. Suddenly someone grabs his hand from the shore
"I got you!" He hears a woman's voice and she pulls him out of the river
"Are you ok?" She asks him
Brock nods and stares at her lovingly
"I'm coming Brock!" They hear Alex yell and he swims past them
"Alex!" Brock yells and immediately chases after him
Flashback ends
Brock has led them to a small cottage. Alex and the woman are placing down food for some Pokemon to eat. Alex looks up and sees his friends approaching
"Took you guys long enough." Alex says
"You're gonna give me a heart attack one day you know." Ash says annoyed
The woman heads over to them
"Hello" She says friendly
"Guys this is Melanie, the woman who saved my life. Melanie these are my friends Ash, Misty and Pikachu." Brock says
"Hi." Ash and Misty say
Pi Pikachu!
"Wow look at all the Pokemon!" Ash says excitedly
"Do all those Pokemon belong to you?" Misty asks
"Oh no." Melanie says
"This is a place where wild Pokemon are able to rest and relax." Brock says
"So like summer camp?" Ash asks
"Sorta. You see if Pokemon get injured or abandoned they can come here and Melanie takes care of them until they heal and get better. Then they leave." Brock says
"So this place is like a Pokemon Centre and Melanie is a Pokemon doctor." Misty says
"Oh no I'm not qualified to be a Pokemon doctor." Melanie says bashfully, "You see no battles are allowed here so the Pokemon are able to relax and play until they feel better and can leave."
She looks down a bit worried, "Although none of the Pokemon have left for a long time."
Alex bends down and rubs his hand on a Paras' head. It quickly becomes apparent that it's actually his Paras who is just pretending to be one of the wild pokemon for a free meal
"That's because this place is safe." Alex replies, "Why would they want to go back out into the world where they have to fend for themselves when you'll continue taking care of them."
Melanie looks conflicted
"How do you take care of all these Pokemon anyway?" Ash asks
"Oh I've studied a lot on plants. I know all kinds of different medicines that can be used to heal Pokemon." Melanie says
A Caterpie starts rubbing it's head against Melanie's leg and she bends down to play with it. Brock watches her with a blush. Alex and Misty notice and roll their eyes
"Melanie on the way here we got caught in some traps. Were those yours?" Misty asks
"Oh yes sorry about that. I set up those traps to try and keep Pokemon trainers out." Melanie says
"Was the bridge a trap too?" Ash asks
"Oh no that bridge was just really old." Melanie replies
"I promised Melanie that we wouldn't catch any Pokemon here." Brock says
"Did you seal the promise with a kiss?" Misty teases only for Brock to hit her on the head
"Ow! Ok I'll stop." Misty says
Ash sighs, "I guess I'll keep your promise."
"Are those traps really tough enough to keep robbers away? I mean you have to be really stupid to fall into a pit trap." Alex says
"Hey!" Misty yells at him
Team Rocket meanwhile has fallen into a pit trap
"This is the third hole we've fallen into!" Jessie shouts angrily, "Why does no one ever fall into our traps!"
"Well this one was cleverly hidden, well made and-" James starts explaining when Jessie hits him
They get out of the hole and start walking only to immediately be caught in one of the net traps
"Are you serious!" Jessie yells out frustrated
"Alright that's enough!" Meowth yells angrily, "We may no longer have a balloon but there are other things we can use!"
Ash, Alex, Misty and Brock are helping Melanie with the Pokemon. Misty is talking to Oddish
"Sorry about what happened in the forest." Misty says
Oddish
"I shouldn't have surprised you like that. You must have been scared."
Oddish nods
"Melanie told me your old trainer got rid of you because he thought you were too weak."
Oddish nods sadly
"You know some trainers can be insensitive but not all of us are mean like that." Misty says and rubs Oddish's head. Oddish smiles happily
"You just need to find a trainer who understands you. Anyway I'm sorry for what I did and I hope that we could become friends." Misty starts tearing up
Oddish
Oddish uses it's leaf to wipe away her tears
"You're sweet Oddish. All I think about lately is winning, I hope I'm not becoming heartless."
"You were always heartless." Ash says
"Mind your own business!" Misty yells at Ash
Suddenly Bulbasaur comes out of nowhere and tackles her
"Aaah!" Misty yells
Oddish!
Bulbasaur!
Bulbasaur prepares to attack Misty again. Ash gets between them
"What do you think you're doing!" Ash shouts at it angrily
Bulbasaur!
"Oh yeah," Ash reaches for a pokeball, "If you want to battle then let's battle!"
"Wait!" Melanie yells and runs over. She bends down infront of Bulbasaur
"Bulbasaur these are our friends. They're not gonna hurt any of the Pokemon." Melanie says
Bulbasaur glares at Ash but turns and walks away
"I'm sorry about Bulbasaur. He's only trying to protect the other Pokemon." Melanie says
"Does Bulbasaur protect this whole village by himself?" Ash asks
"Yes. Bulbasaur is responsible for all the other Pokemon." Melanie says
"Wow. I'd love to have a Pokemon like that on my team." Ash says
A giant shadow suddenly passes over them
"What's that?" Ash asks
They look up into the sky and see a giant stadium with a bunch of balloons tied to it floating towards them
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: Make it double!
"Wait! We only get one chance to do the motto! You want to use it now?" Meowth asks
"Right good point." James says
"Is that Team Rocket?" Alex asks
"I can't tell. They're too far away." Ash replies
"Well they're coming closer!" Brock yells as the stadium slams into the ground
"Give us all the Pokemon!" Jessie yells
"Never!" Ash yells back at them
"What's going on? Who are they?" Melanie asks confused
"You see this is why we do the motto." James says
"We are Team Rocket and we are to steal all your Pokemon!" Meowth yells
"No!"
Bulbasaur!
"We're not giving you a choice!" Jessie yells and presses a button. A giant vacuum pops out of the stadium and starts sucking all the Pokemon towards it
"Get the Pokemon inside quickly!" Melanie yells and everyone springs into action. They are unfortunately not fast enough to grab poor Oddish who is sucked away
"Oddish no!" Misty yells
Bulbasaur shoots it's vines out and grabs Oddish
Bulbasaur!
He pulls Oddish back towards him and starts running for the cabin. However the force from the vacuum is very strong and he struggles to move
Bulba...
Ash rushes over and grabs Bulbasaur and Oddish
"I got you!" Ash yells and carries them into the cabin
Bulbasaur
"You're welcome Bulbasaur." Ash says
"What are we gonna do about Team Rocket?" Alex says
"I have an idea." Brock says, "Everyone stay inside. I'll handle this."
Brock heads out. He grabs a pokeball and tosses it. The pokeball gets sucked towards the vacuum but activates before it goes in
Rarrrrr!
"It's Onix!" Team Rocket yell out frightened
Onix towers over them. The vacuum has no effect on it
Rarrrrr!
Onix swings it's tail hitting Team Rocket with so much force they're sent flying into the air
"We're blasting off again!" They yell
Onix then smashes the stadium
"It's safe now!" Brock yells
Everyone exits out of the cabin. Oddish is being carried by Misty
"Thank you Brock." Melanie says
Brock blushes
"Thank Onix. He did all the work." Brock replies
Rarr
Bulbasaur headbutts Ash's head
Bulba!
"What's wrong Bulbasaur?" Ash asks
Melanie picks Bulbasaur up
"I think Bulbasaur wants to battle you Ash." Melanie says
"What? Why?" Ash asks confused
Bulba Bulba!
"Bulbasaur has decided that it wants to travel with you" Melanie says
"Really? That's great! Ofcourse I'll battle you Bulbasaur!" Ash shouts excited
"But Melanie if Bulbasaur is gone then who will protect the village?" Brock asks
"I've been thinking about what Alex said earlier, about the Pokemon not wanting to leave because it's too safe here, and he's right. These Pokemon shouldn't remain in this village forever, after they recover they should return to the wild, where Pokemon belong, and hopefully someday they will find good trainers who will take care of them."
Oddish is listening intently
"That is why Bulbasaur and I have decided that it's time for him to leave and I don't think there is anyone more suited to train him than you Ash."
Bulbasaur!
"Then let's battle!" Ash says
Ash and Bulbasaur are facing off. Pikachu sparks his cheeks and gets ready to battle
"I choose Pidgeotto!" Ash yells causing Pikachu to fall over in shock
Pidgeo!
Bulbasaur shoots it's vines forward and tries to knock Pidgeotto out of the sky, however the bird flies pas them
"Pidgeotto use Gust!"
Pidgeotto starts flapping it's wings and Bulbasaur is blown backwards
Bulba!
Bulbasaur uses it's vines to break it's fall
Bulbasaur!
It shoots a seed out of it's back hitting Pidgeotto and causing some roots to surround it
Pidgeo?
The roots suddenly glow and Pidgeotto screams in pain
"Pidgeotto what's happening?" Ash asks confused
"Bulbasaur used Leech Seed Ash!" Alex shouts at him, "It gradually saps Pidgeotto's energy throughout the battle"
"So we have to finish this quickly then. Pidgeotto use Quick Attack!"
Pidgeotto speeds forward slamming into Bulbasaur
"Now Gust again!"
Bulbasaur is hit head on by the gust and blown into a tree
Bulba...
Bulbasaur staggers around before face planting. Ash tosses a pokeball hitting Bulbasaur and sucking it in
wiggle wiggle wiggle
Ash stares at the pokeball hopefully
wiggle wiggle wiggle ding
"Alright I caught Bulbasaur!" Ash does his pose
Pikachu!
Pidgeotto!
"I'll miss you Bulbasaur." Melanie says softly
The group are saying goodbye to Melanie and the other Pokemon
"Have a safe trip." Melanie says
"I promise to take goodcare of Bulbasaur." Ash says
Melanie kneels and rubs Bulbasaur's head
"Bulbasaur thank you for watching over us."
Bulbasaur
Melanie gets back to her feet and Brock steps forward
"Melanie I've been thinking. Since Bulbasaur is leaving I wouldn't mind staying and helping you out." Brock says
"It's very kind of you but we'll be ok. I wouldn't want to keep you from all your wonderful adventures." Melanie says
"Oh yeah I guess you're right." Brock says depressed
Everyone prepares to head out when Oddish suddenly runs forward
Oddish! Oddish!
"Hmm Oddish?" Melanie asks confused
Oddish runs over to Misty
"Hi Oddish" Misty says
Odd Oddish
"Do you want to come with me?" Misty asks surprised
Oddish nods happily
"That's great! I'll be happy to have you come along." Misty says
Oddish turns towards Melanie and the other Pokemon and waves goodbye to them using it's leaves
Oddish! Odd!
"Goodbye Oddish." Melanie says
The other Pokemon wave goodbye and Oddish turns back towards Misty. Misty pulls out a pokeball and gently drops it onto Oddish's head. The pokeball sucks Oddish in
wiggle wiggle ding
"Alright I caught Oddish!" Misty does Ash's pose
"Hey that's my pose!" Ash shouts as they start walking away
"I know. I've always wanted to try it myself." Misty says
"Good idea maybe I should try it." Brock says
"Get your own poses!" Ash shouts angrily
"You should be flattered that people want to try your pose." Alex says
"Do you know how difficult it is to come up with a unique pose?" Ash asks angrily
Bulbasaur shakes it's head
Saur...
The Pokegang are still lost
"We should have asked Melanie for directions." Misty says
"Well we didn't. No point in harping on about it now." Alex says annoyed
Brock is looking over the map
"There's a Pokemon Centre off to the side of Route 24. If we can find that then we'll be able to get back on track." Brock says
Misty heads over to look at the map
"That's great Brock but we still don't know where we are now." Misty says
"Bulbasaur you have any idea how to get to Route 24?" Ash asks
Bulbasaur shakes his head
"It was worth a try." Ash shrugs
"Uh Misty I think there's a Bug on your foot." Alex says
Misty screams and leaps onto Ash's shoulders
"Get it off!" She screams. Alex bends down and picks up a stick. He starts laughing
"Sorry it was just a twig." He giggles...and then Misty kicks him in the face
"This forest is driving me crazy!" Misty screams
"Misty...please get off..." Ash strains and Misty realizes that she unintentionally crushed the poor boy against the ground
"Sorry Ash." She gets off and helps him up. Brock helps Alex to his feet. He clutches his face
"Misty I think you broke my nose." He whines
"You deserved it!" Misty yells at him
"Fair enough." Alex admits
"Look standing around here is getting us nowhere. Let's head down that path and see where it leads us." Brock says
"Fine. I just hope it leads us out of this forest." Misty replies and the group head on. They exit the forest leading to a cheer from Misty...and come across a giant rock
"Why there is there a giant rock in the middle of nowhere?" Ash asks confused
Char
Sitting atop the giant rock is a Charmander
"A wild Charmander. You don't usually see too many of those." Brock says
Ash takes out his Pokedex and scans it
Charmander the Lizard Pokemon. A Fire type. The fire on the tip of its tail is a measure of its life. If healthy, its tail burns intensely. Charmander evolves into Charmeleon. This Charmander is Male
"I'll always wanted a Charmander!" Ash shouts
"Isn't that the same thing you said about Bulbasaur?" Misty asks
"So it's true for both of them." Ash says. He pulls out Sandshrew's pokeball, "I'm gonna catch it. Go-"
"Wait Ash!" Brock yells causing Ash to stop, "Look at it's tail flame. It's very weak. If you battle Charmander you may severly hurt it."
"Right. I'll just toss a pokeball at it and then we can take it to the Pokemon Centre." Ash says and tosses the Pokeball. The pokeball sucks Charmander in...and then the pokeball shatters and Charmander reappears
Char!
"It broke out!" Ash asks confused
Ash tosses another pokeball but Charmander knocks this one away
"It really doesn't want to be captured." Ash says
"Why is it just sitting here?" Misty asks confused. Alex lets out his own Charmander
Charmander
"Charmander could you ask that Charmander what it's doing?" Alex asks
Charmander nods and heads over to the wild Charmander
Char Charmander?
Mander Char Char Charmander
Alex's Charmander nods and heads back towards Alex
Charmander Char
Charmander points towards it's own pokeball and then at the wild Charmander
"It's waiting for it's trainer?" Alex asks confused. His Charmander nods
"But that doesn't make any sense. If Charmander had a trainer then the pokeball wouldn't have tried to capture it." Brock says confused
"Something strange is going on." Misty says
They notice some storm clouds are slowly coming in
"We can't leave it here." Ash says
"Charmander try and convince it to come with us." Alex says
Alex's Charmander heads back over to the wild Charmander
Char
The wild Charmander shakes it's head
Char! Charmander!
"It refuses to leave." Brock says
"Maybe it's just a misunderstanding. I'm sure it's trainer will come to get it soon." Misty says, but she doesn't sound particularly sure
"Are we really just gonna leave it?" Ash asks
"We can't force it to come with Ash. We tried but if it doesn't want to go then it doesn't want to go." Alex replies
"I guess...stay safe Charmander." Ash says sadly and they head on
The Pokegang have found the Pokemon Centre. They are sitting at a table eating dinner. Outside it is storming heavily. Brock is staring out the window
"Do you think anyone has picked up that Charmander yet?" Brock asks
"Yeah I'm worried about it too." Ash says,"What if it's still out there?"
"I'm sure Charmander's trainer has gotten it by now." Alex says attempting to ease their minds, but he doesn't sound quite sure of it himself
"And surely if it's trainer hadn't come by now it would have left." Misty says
"I hope so." Brock says
Their conversation is interrupted by some men laughing nearby. They glance over and see a couple trainers gathered around a table with a bunch of pokeballs on it
"You sure got a bunch of them." One of the trainers says
"Just look at them. It sure is a pretty cool collection." a trainer with blue hair says cockly
"Way cool. You're the man Damian." Another trainer says
"Hey didn't you have a Charmander as well?" A trainer asks
"I did but that puny thing was so weak it couldn't even beat the weakest Poliwag." Damian replies
"I don't like his attitude." Misty says
"Charmander maybe weak to Water Pokemon but if they trainers work hard they can overcome that weakness." Brock says
"So what did you do with the Charmander?" The trainers asks
"I left it on some rock near the woods." Damian replies causing the Pokegang's eyes to widen, "That thing is so stupid. No matter what I do it keeps on following me. I finally got rid of it by promising it I'd come back for it. It fell for it! Dumb thing is probably still there waiting for me!"
The group of them start laughing. Brock suddenly grabs Damian around the throat and lifts him up
"Wha-"
"Go and get it!" Brock shouts angrily, "That Charmander is still waiting for you! Go and get it now!"
"Why should I?" Damian asks annoyed
"You lied to your Pokemon and said you'd be back. Now it's waiting out in the rain for you. The condition it's currently in, it's tail flame will likely go out and it will die. Do you want to be responsible for that?" Brock asks coldly
Damian pulls away from him. "What I do is none of your business!"
"Do what he says!" Ash shouts as him, Misty and Alex head over to them
"What did you say nerd?" Damian asks him
"You heard what I said! And you want to be a Pokemon trainer?"
"You're disgusting." Misty says angrily
Pika Pika!
"You sure you want to mess with us?" Damian asks threatingly. All his friends look ready to leap in. Alex grabs his baseball bat
"I'd stay out of this if I were you." He says towards them. Damian grabs a pokeball
"Let's settle this like men. In a Pokemon battle." He says
"Fine by me." Ash says angrily
"Break it up!" Nurse Joy yells and gets between them, "This is a place for Pokemon to heal and trainers to rest! Not for grudge matches!"
"Well tell them that. They started it." Damian says and he and him friends walk away
"I think you'd be better off not getting messed up with them. They have a very bad reputation." Nurse Joy says.
Brock goes into love mode
"Thanks for the advice. And might I add that you are the most beautiful I have ever seen." Brock says
Nurse Joy just walks away uncomfortably
"What are you talking about Brock? She looks the exact same as all the other Nurse Joys." Ash asks confused
"Is that seriously what you guys are focusing on? We need to go save Charmander!" Alex shouts at them
The gang have rushed out into the rain to go fetch Charmander
"I hope we're not too late!" Ash shouts
They arrive at the rock and see Charmander still laying there, clutching onto a giant leaf to cover it's very weak tail flame. A bunch of Spearow are attacking it
"Not Spearow!" Ash shouts frighthened
Pikachu!
Pikachu fires a Thunderbolt scaring the Spearow away. Brock rushes over to Charmander
"It's very weak. We need to get it the Pokemon Centre quickly"
Charmander is hooked up to some machines. Nurse Joy and Chansey are monitoring it. Ash,Alex,Brock,Misty and Pikachu watch from outside.
"Charmander..."
Nurse Joy exits the room
"Is Charmander going to be ok?" Brock asks
"It's very weak but as long as we keep it warm it should recover." Nurse Joy says
Charmander's tail flame is already slowly starting to get stronger
"You all seem very tired and stressed, why don't you get some sleep and you can check in on Charmander in the morning." Nurse Joy says
The morning comes. Ash,Alex,Misty and Pikachu are all still fast asleep
"Wake up everybody!" Brock yells causing them all to bolt awake
"What's wrong Brock?" Ash asks
"Charmander's gone!" Brock shouts
"Gone? You dont mean-" Ash starts saying
"No no it just left." Brock quickly clarifies
The group are in Charmander's room
"It must have climbed out the window at some point." Nurse Joy says gesturing at the open window
"It probably went back to wait for Damian." Alex says
"We have to go back then!" Ash shouts
"We can't..." Misty says, "We can't force Charmander to come with us if it wants to wait for Damian, even if he is a lying creep."
Brock clenches his fists
"It's true. Charmander needs to realize the truth itself, otherwise there's nothing we can do." He says sadly
Charmander heads back towards the rock, it's tail flame is stronger than ever. It glances back towards the Pokemon Centre
Char...
Ash,Alex,Brock,Misty and Pikachu are heading the other way
"I thought Charmander knew that we cared about it." Ash says sadly
"Ash Charmander knows, but unfortunately it's still loyal to Damian." Brock says sadly, "It won't abandon him, even if he doesn't give it the same courtesy."
"Some people just shouldn't be allowed to own Pokemon." Alex mumbles angrily
"Come on let's keep going. We'll all cheer up once we get to Vermilion City." Misty says
Meanwhile ahead of them are Team Rocket, preparing to set another trap. They have built a robot
"So what does it do?" Meowth asks curiously
"Behold the brilliance of our genius!" James shouts. He presses a button on a remote and the robot starts up...and starts drilling a hole
"Not another hole digger!" Meowth yells, "We tried that already!"
"If at first you don't succeed try again." Jessie says
"This time we'll remember where the hole is." James replies
The robot stops drilling and covers the trap up
"See it's right infront of us. Now let's hide before the twerps get here." Jessie says and the three of them duck into the bushes
"The robot!" Meowth shouts. James starts pressing buttons with the controller and the robot stands up, walks over to the bushes, and squats, it's not even fully hidden
"Perfect."
The Pokegang head along the path. They walk over the trap...which gives in
"Aaah!"
Ash,Alex,Brock and Misty fall into the hole
"Ouch!" Misty yells
Pikachu peaks into the hole confused
Pika?
"We're ok Pikachu!" Ash shouts up to him
"Why is there a hole in the middle of the road?" Alex asks confused
Team Rocket stetp out of the bushes. They have put on rubber costumes
"It worked!" Meowth shouts genuinely surprised
Pika!
"Is that Team Rocket?" Ash asks, "Pikachu I'm coming don't worry!"
"You're coming with us Pikachu." Jessie says
Pikachu fires a Thunderbolt which does nothing
Pi!
Pikachu turns and starts running
"Nuh uh." James pulls out a giant gun, "Rubber balloon go!"
He fires a giant rubber balloon which hits Pikachu and traps him inside
Pika!
Pikachu tries to get out of the balloon but can't
"We did it! We caught Pikachu!" The three cheer
Charmander!
Charmander approaches them
"What's that?" Jessie asks
"It's a Charmander. Do you think it's the twerps?" James asks
Char Char
"No this one's wild. It's saying to give Pikachu back to those guys." Meowth translates
"Oh really? And what are you gonna do about it?" Jessie asks
Charmander takes in a deep breath...and fires a power Flamethrower
"Aaah!"
The Flamethrower melts through the balloon freeing Pikachu. It also destroyed Team Rocket's rubber uniforms.
"Run for it!" Meowth yells and they take off running
"I told you we needed fire uniforms too!" James yells
They run past Damian who witnessed everything
(Charmander beat them?)
Ash,Alex,Misty and Brock manage to get out of the hole. Ash hugs Pikachu
"Thanks for the help Charmander." Brock says
Charmander Char
"Charmander how would you like to join up with us?" Ash asks, "I'm afraid your trainer isn't coming back."
"Hey Charmander." Damian says as he approaches them
"It's Damian!" Everyone yells out shocked
Char!
"I came back for ya just like I said I would." Damian says
"This isn't even the spot you left him at." Alex points out
"Shut up you! Let's go Charmander." Damian says
Charmander looks over at Ash and the others. He looks back at Damian conflicted
"Don't listen to him Charmander. He already abandoned you once." Ash says
"Charmander is my Pokemon. I caught it remember." Damian says
"And then you released it. Why would you do that if you were gonna come back for it." Alex says
Charmander...
"It was weak then, but it's strong now, and the best part is I didn't even have to train it!"
Charmander looks down sadly
"You're a terrible person. You can't just abandon your Pokemon!" Ash yells at him
"Why not? What's wrong with dumping a weak Pokemon. They just hold me back." Damian says
"Raising Pokemon is the best part of being a Pokemon trainer." Brock says angrily
"It's the most boring part. You know what enough talk! You're coming with me Charmander whether you want to or not!" He tosses a pokeball towards Charmander
Char!
Charmander knocks the pokeball back and hits Damian in the face
"Ouch!"
Damian glares at Charmander. He grabs all his pokeballs
"That's it! I'll crush you with every Pokemon I've got!" He yells
Charmander!
Charmander fires a Flamethrower hitting Damian
"Aaaah!" He takes off running, "Mummy!"
Everyone laughs
"You showed him Charmander." Ash says
Char!
"So you gonna come with us?" Ash asks
Charmander nods happily. Ash and Brock look at each other
"Go ahead Ash. You take Charmander." Brock says
"You sure Brock? You did alot to help him." Ash says
"So did you, and I think Charmander would really benefit with you as it's trainer." Brock says
"Alright then." Ash tosses a pokeball at Charmander sucks it in
wiggle wiggle ping
"Alright I caught Charmander!"
Pikachu!
Ash picks up his pokeball
"Ok let's get going. We should be back on track now." Brock says
The Pokegang are back on Route 24. They walk along the road on their way towards Vermilion City when the ground suddenly gives in and they fall into a pit trap
"Again!" Misty yells frustrated, "What is with all the pits lately?"
"Ow! I landed on my head!" Brock yells
"Do you think it's Team Rocket again?" Ash asks
Squirtle!
They look up and see five Squirtle peaking down at them. Four of them are wearing identical blue round sunglasses while the fifth one is wearing black triangle shaped shades. The five of them are laughing
"What's so funny? We could have been hurt!" Misty shouts at them

The five Squirtle move away as Ash climbs out of the hole
"Dangerous practical jokes are nothing to laugh about!"
Ash takes out his Pokedex and scans Squirtle
Squirtle the Tiny Turtle Pokémon. A Water type. Squirtle's shell is not merely used for protection. The shell's rounded shape and the grooves on its surface help minimize resistance in water, enabling this Pokémon to swim at high speeds. Squirtle evolves into Wartortle. This Squirtle is Male
"Beating Gary will be easy with my own Squirtle!" Ash shouts, "Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"

Pikachu fires the Thunderbolt towards the Black shades Squirtle. One of the other Squirtle jump in the way taking the hit

The Black shades Squirtle steps up to battle Pikachu
"That must be the leader." Alex says
Pikachu and Squirtle's intense face off is interrupted by the sound of police sirens. An Officer Jenny drives towards them
Squirtle! Squirtle!
Two Squirtle grab their fainted comrade and the gang rush off
"Squirtle come back!" Ash yells
"That was strange." Alex says
Officer Jenny stops her bike
"Are you kids alright?" She asks
"Yes now that we are together all is right in the universe!" Brock drops to his knee, "Officer Jenny I know you and I have just met but my heart is telling me that we are destined to be together!"
Alex hits him over the head with his baseball bat
"Owwww!"
"Ignore my friend he suffered brain damage as a baby." Alex says
"Um..." Jenny just looks confused
Officer Jenny has taken the gang to the police station
"Those Squirtle are called the Squirtle Squad. They're a pokemon gang of Squirtle who were all deserted by their trainers." Jenny says sadly
"Not again." Alex groans
"Because of their experiences they're not really fond of humans so they like to play tricks on the whole town. It's quite sad really, if they just had someone to care for them then they wouldn't have turned out to be as bad as they are." Jenny says
Team Rocket is spying on the station from a hill nearby.
"Jessie can we eat lunch soon?" Meowth asks
"Yeah I'm hungry." James moans
"Will you two shut up! This is our chance to capture Pikachu. We need to focus on our plan and not on our stomach!" Jessie yells
Then her stomach growls
"Alright let's eat." Jessie says and grabs their picnic basket
Squirtle Squirtle
The Team Rocket trio turn around to see the Squirtle Squad have surrounded them
"It's a bunch of Squirtle." James says
"What do they want Meowth?" Jessie asks
Squirtle Squirtle
"They want the food." Meowth says
"No way! This is our food get your own!" Jessie yells
Team Rocket have been tied up into a tree while the Squirtle Squad are busy eating their food
"Atleast save one rice ball for me!" Jessie yells
"They're eating all the sandwiches!" James yells, "Meowth do something!"
"I'll try. Hey Squirtle come over here." Meowth says. The Squirtle heads over to him

"You hate humans right? So do I." Meowth says
"Huh?" Jessie and James say confused
Squirtle Squirtle
"Yes you see I own these humans." Meowth says
"Own! You don't own us Meowth!" James yells at him. Meowth suddenly kicks him
"Bad human! Never talk back to your master!"
Squirtle Squirtle
Squirtle cuts Meowth down
"Thank you. You won't be disappointed." Meowth sits down and starts eating
"Traitor!" Jessie yells at him
Meowth heads over to her
"Shh. I'm gonna use the Squirtle Squad to catch Pikachu. Then you guys can swoop in and we can take them all to the boss." Meowth says
"Huh. That's actually brilliant." James admits
The Pokegang are resting on a riverbank. Misty is busy fishing
"I think I got something!" Misty yells
A Squirtle pops out of the water holding her fishing lure
"It's one of the Squirtle Squad." Misty says
Squirtle fires a Water Gun hitting them
"Aaah!" They yell
"We're soaked!" Ash complains
Pikachu!
Pikachu tries to Thunderbolt Squirtle who leaps out of the water avoiding it

Pikachu turns around and sees that Ash,Alex,Misty and Brock were accidentally shocked as well
"Wet...clothes...Pikachu..." Ash mumbles

Squirtle!
Squirtle starts mocking Pikachu

Pikachu rushes towards Squirtle angrily
"Pikachu wait!" Ash yells
Squirtle withdraws into it's shell and flies forward hitting Pikachu

Pikachu is knocked into the river
"Quick Pikachu swim to shore!" Ash yells
A Goldeen notices Pikachu on the surface and it's horn starts glowing pink. It swims up and hits Pikachu

Pikachu is sent flying out of the river
"Pikachu!" Ash yells
Pikachu slams onto the ground and moans weakly. Ash starts running towards him when him and the others are all lassoed
"Let me go!" Ash yells
"What's happening?" Misty asks confused
The Squirtle Squad step out from hiding
Squirtle Squirtle
"You're not gonna squirtle your way out of this." Meowth says as he steps out of hiding
"Meowth!" The Pokegang yell
The Squirtle Squad have tied Ash,Alex,Misty and Brock to a rock in a cave. Pikachu is trapped in a small cage. He is laying down, breathing heavily, and his eyes are squeezed shut
"I'm the Pokemon in charge here." Meowth says
"Don't listen to him Squirtle!" Ash yells,"Meowth is just using you!"
"Quiet human!" Meowth fury swipes Ash's face
"Ouch!"
"You can't fool my Squirtle breathren. We know that humans cannot be trusted." Meowth says
Pikapi...
"Pikachu!" Ash looks over at Pikachu alarmed
"Ash Pikachu's been poisoned. If we don't get him some antidote soon..." Brock says before trailing off
"Squirtle please you have to let me go into town and get some antidote for Pikachu." Ash begs
Squirtle shakes it's head
"Please I promise I'll come back. I need to help Pikachu"
Squirtle Squirtle
"Squirtle says that promises are cheap." Meowth translates
Ash starts crying, "Please you have to trust me"
Squirtle stares at Ash. It glances over at Pikachu
Squirtle Squirtle
"What?" Meowth asks shocked
Two Squirtle head over and untie Ash
"Thank you Squirtle." Ash says tearfully
Squirtle Squirtle
"Squirtle says if you're not back by noon tomorrow the red-headed girl gets her hair dyed purple." Meowth says
"Purple!" Misty practically screams,she starts trying to strangle Meowth with her feet
"Why you mangy little flea trap! When I get out of here-"
"Misty!" Ash yells,"I'll be back I promise."
Misty calms down and Ash runs out of the cave. Alex bites his lip but can't resist the urge
"I think purple hair would suit you." He says mockingly
Misty headbutts him
Ash is running as fast as he can. Unfortunately he isn't exactly paying attention to where he's going and ends up tripping on a stone
"Aaah!" He slams into the ground and scrapes his arms. He gets back to his feet and keeps running

He comes across an old wooden bridge and has flashbacks to the Hidden Village
(Just gotta becareful)
He slowly starts going across the bridge when unsurprisingly the rope snaps
"Aaaah!" He falls into the river below. He resurfaces...and gets attacked by a Goldeen
"Aaaah!"
Ash finally reaches town. He is battered,bruised and limping. He arrives at a store
"I made it." Ash says and reaches for the door when it suddenly bursts open bashing him in the face and knocking him off to the side. Gary walks out not even realizing Ash was there and heads on his way
"I beg your pardon..." Ash gets out before passing out
Ash wakes up sometime later.
"Listen up!" He hears Jessie's voice. He glances inside the store and sees that Jessie and James are holding the people inside at gunpoint, or more specificially giant bazooka point
"We want all the flashpowder you have." Jessie says
"Why do you want that?" The store clerk asks terrified
"You know the Squirtle Squad. We're gonna drive them out of town!" Jessie shouts
The store clerks hands them a box full of flashpowder
"Chow for now." James says
Jessie fires her giant bazooka thing...revealing it was just full of cherry blossoms. Jessie and James rush off while the people are distracted
(Oh no I gotta get back before they get Pikachu!)
Ash rushes into the store
"Antidote please." Ash says
Officer Jenny rushes into the store
"What happened?" She asks
"It was Team Rocket." Ash says, "They're going after the Squirtle Squad"
Officer Jenny is driving Ash back towards the cave
"We're almost there Ash!" She yells when she suddenly slams on the breaks. They've reached the now-destroyed bridge
"Oh no the bridge is out! Team Rocket must have destroyed it!" She yells
"Uh yeah it was Team Rocket," Ash says
"Don't worry I know another route." She turns and starts going off the side. Team Rocket's Meowth balloon floats past a few seconds afterwards. They're busy making bombs out of the flashpowder
"This should scare those Squirtle." James says
"And in the confusion we can grab them and Pikachu." Jessie says
Officer Jenny and Ash have reached a passageway into the side of a mountain
"This passageway leads straight to the cave. Unfortunately it's too narrow for me to fit through but hopefully you can do it." Jenny says
"I need to try." Ash replies and squeezes into the passageway
Ash reaches the spot where they were trapped but everyone is gone
"Oh no I'm too late!" He shouts
He notices Meowth and the Squirtle Squad are outside and he rushes over to them
"Where are my friends?" He asks accusingly
"We're overhere." Alex says. Ash turns and sees them standing behind him
"Did you get the antidote?" Misty asks, her hair isn't purple.
"Yeah." Ash hands the antidote over to Brock who starts spraying it on Pikachu
"So Misty I notice your hair isn't purple." Ash says
"No I'm still a red-head." Misty replies
"The Squirtle Squad was bluffing." Alex says
"They may play tricks but they'd never change a girl's hair colour." Misty says
"They're better people than I am." Alex mumbles
The Squirtle Squad start laughing. Suddenly a flashbomb goes off startling them
"It's Team Rocket!" Ash yells
The Meowth balloon hovers over them
"It's finally time." Jessie says and clears her throat
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: Make it double!
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie and James: To denounce the evils of truth and love! To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie: Jessie!
James: James!
They drop a ladder down from the balloon
Jessie: Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
James: Surrender now, or prepare to fight!
Meowth snatches Pikachu from Brock and hops onto the ladder
Meowth: Meowth! That's Right!
"Pikachu!" Ash yells
Jessie and James start dropping flashbombs rapidly
"Quick back to the cave!" Alex yells and everyone makes a beeline for it. The lead Squirtle is suddenly knocked over by one of the flashbombs and falls onto it's back
Squirtle! Squirtle!
Ash sees it and rushes back. Jessie and James drop two more flashbombs and Ash dives ontop of Squirtle to protect it
"Ash!" Misty yells
"Hey Squirtle are you ok?" Ash asks
Squirtle
Team Rocket drop more flashbombs
"Save yourself Squirtle." Ash says, "Run for it."
Squirtle stares into Ash's eyes
Squirtle!
It suddenly leaps to it's feet with Ash in it's arms and makes a beeline for the cave
Squirtle! Squirtle!
It avoids the flashbombs and leaps into the cave. All the bombing has started a forest fire
"It's too bad we couldn't get the Squirtle, but atleast we got Pikachu." Jessie says as Team Rocket prepare to leave
"Not so fast!" Ash yells. Team Rocket see that Ash and Squirtle have somehow managed to get to the top of the cliff
"How did they get there?" James asks confused
"Squirtle Water Gun!" Ash yells
Squirtle fires a Water Gun popping the balloon
"Aaah!"
James accidentally drops Pikachu
"Oh no!" James yells
Ash catches Pikachu as Team Rocket are sent blasting off
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" They yell
"The fire's spreading!" Misty yells
Officer Jenny drives up to them
"If it keeps burning the whole town could go up in smoke!" Jenny yells
The Squirtle leader looks over at the other Squirtle
Squirtle!
The Squirtle Squad leap into action, firing Water Gun at the fire
Squirtle!
They manage to put out the fire
Officer Jenny has gathered the whole town together. The Squirtle Squad are now wearing uniforms
"And so I proudly present to you the new town firefighters!"
The crowd cheers loudly
Squirtle!
The Squirtle Squad strike poses
The group have now left the town and are heading down Route 25. Pikachu is back to full health
Squirtle!
They stop and turn to see the leader Squirtle behind them
Squirtle
"Squirtle do you want to come along with us?" Ash asks
Squirtle smiles and runs towards Ash. Ash gets down onto his knees and Squirtle leaps into his arms and hugs him
Squirtle!
"Alright I caught a new Pokemon!"
"Caught? What do you mean caught?" Misty asks
"Semantics." Ash replies
"I think you mean pedantics." Alex says
"No pretty sure it's semantics." Ash says
"You're both being pedantic and or semantic." Misty says annoyed,"Let's get a move on. I can't wait to get to Vermilion City."
"Alright. Let's go Squirtle!" Ash says happily

Me: And that ends that chapter. So as you can see I have decided to do away with the 6 Pokemon limit. This won't really effect much though other than allowing Ash and company to carry a few extra Pokemon around. Full battles are still 6-on-6
