In the Ice Realm, a medium-sized dragon with icicle-like spikes on its head was wandering around, minding its own business. However, it then heard the sound of another dragon, which sounded like it was calling out.
The dragon went to investigate, but suddenly, it found itself hanging upside down with a rope attached to its leg. It tried to free itself, but then it heard the dragon sound again and calmed down.
However, it wasn't a dragon making the sound; it was Buzzsaw. He had somehow carved a caller, which he was able to use to attract other dragons.
"Ha! Fooled ya," Buzzsaw smirked and began to examine it. "Hmm. A little Himalayan pink salt smoked low and slow over some apple wood. You might taste pretty good."
He then heard the sound of another dragon, which sounded much bigger. He quickly turned around, instantly saw a tree falling over, and gasped as he saw the dragon itself.
Meanwhile, the Dragon Riders were taking a science lab tour at ICARUS Station.
"So, this is our lab, where we study our discoveries," said Olivia as she gave them the tour.
"Hmm. Never been in here before," Jun smirked at Alex.
Alex sniggered.
"The Gonzalezes are studying the specimen we recently discovered deep in the fissure," said Olivia.
"It looks to contain a profile of deep ocean minerals," said Hazel, looking away from the microscope.
"Just like a Sample we found years ago at the bottom of the ocean," Carla said and turned to look at Alex. "You remember that, sweetie?"
"I vaguely remember being seasick for five months," said Alex.
"Aww. You were such a trooper," said Hazel, squeezing her cheeks before hugging her.
"Now I'm mortified," said Alex dryly.
"And over here is our prized find," said Olivia, making her way to a container. "We discovered this specimen on our latest dig. Its properties are truly unique. It's harder than a diamond."
She then sidestepped out of the way and showed them the green crystal in the container, and they all gasped.
"Wow. That's cool," said Alex.
"Yeah," said D'Angelo. "Can't believe something like that is just buried in the ground beneath our feet. Yep."
"Makes you wonder what else is down there, doesn't it?" James nodded.
Tom immediately grabbed Jun. "did you know they found another piece of Dragonsite?"
Jun shook her head.
"Dragonsite?" said Olivia, picking up on their conversation.
Everyone immediately gasped and cringed.
"Oh. Uh, I-I mean, you found another piece of that crystal stuff. That's so cool!" said Tom as James, D'Angelo, and Alex shook their heads behind Olivia's back, signalling to stop talking. "And it should have a cool name to go with it. Like maybe, Dragonsite or something else… cooler maybe."
Eugene then stepped in. "Oh, Tommy, you're so funny. Isn't Dragonsite already the name of a gem in that fantasy game you and the other kids are always playing?"
"Um… yes, yes, that's… That's right, Eugene," Tom nodded. "From the fantasy game that we're always playing."
"You know what, science is so fascinating, Dr Kullersen," said Eugene as he looked at the sample of the Dragonsite. "Dare I say, geology rocks."
Jun groaned.
"Yes, Eugene. It does," said Olivia. "We'll call it Dragonsite. Why not?"
"Great," said Tom.
"Totally saved your butt," Eugene whispered to Tom and clicked his tongue.
"Well, that's the end of the field trip," said Olivia. "Consider yourselves released."
"Thanks, Dr Kullersen," said Jun.
"Thanks, Mom," said Tom as they began to leave the lab.
"What are you guys going to do for the rest of the day?" Olivia asked curiously. "Play that dragon game?"
"Um… Actually, we're going to take my drone out and get some aerial shots of Rakke Town," said Tom.
"Okay. Be home by dinner. And making your favourite mac and cheese."
Tom smiled and exited the lab, but Olivia still looked suspicious.
Outside in the corridor, Tom gave a sigh of relief.
"They're getting closer to discovering the hidden realms," said Tom, looking at the other Riders. "That new piece of Dragonsite proves it. This is bad."
"Not as bad as you always blowing the secret," said Eugene.
"I didn't almost blow the secret."
"Oh, come on, Kullersen, you were a babbling puddle of jelly. Luckily, I was there to bail you out."
"Guys!" Alex yelled. "Sh! I didn't want to say anything while Tom was almost blowing the secret and Eugene was sucking up to his mom, but my sensors are going off in the Ice Realm."
Upon hearing this, the Dragon Riders immediately dashed to their dragons.
They were in the Ice Realm a few moments later, discovering the tiny dragon was caught in one of Buzzsaw's traps.
D'Angelo immediately bent down and untied the rope around its leg, and it flew away happily. He then immediately turned to the other Riders. "This is the third dragon we've freed from one of Buzzsaw's traps this week alone."
"As long as that nut is on the loose, this place isn't safe for dragons," said Tom. "We've got to find him and get him outta here."
"Let me remind you that he's a nut that carries a hatchet," Alex reminded him.
"But we have dragons, Alex, and he doesn't," Tom pointed out as he stroked Thunder. "That means advantage, Dragon Riders."
"Yeah, but we have you, Tommy," said Eugene. "So that kind of evens things up again."
He then gave a small chuckle, which resulted in him getting slapped on the back of the head by Jun.
"Ow!" he said, glaring at her.
They then heard a dragon screeching in the distance.
"That sounds like another dragon in trouble," said D'Angelo.
Tom instantly mounted Thunder and took off to the source of the screech, quickly followed by the others.
They soon reached the place where they heard the screech and landed in the trees.
"Is it a dragon?" Jun asked.
"No," said Tom as he saw a campsite through the trees. "It's Buzzsaw's camp. We found him."
Sadly, there was no sign of Buzzsaw, but they decided to investigate the campsite. Everything looked pretty ordinary, standard camping equipment, except for a fancy tea that was set on one of the logs.
"Eurgh! Dirty socks," said D'Angelo in disgust. "Porcelain tea set? What is with this guy?"
"He really made himself at home," said Jun.
Plowhorn then sniffed the socks, and one of them landed on her snout, causing her to sneeze and accidentally shoot out a loopy blast.
"Plenty of firewood and provisions; this will see him over for quite some time," said James.
"But where is he?" Alex asked.
"Probably split," said Eugene. "When back to his old pathetic crazy twisted life."
"Remember that it is always an option for you to," said Jun, patting him on the shoulder.
Eugene then grumbled under his breath.
"Not Buzzsaw," said Tom. "He is out trapping dragons. I'm sure of it."
"Maybe we can set up an ambush when he returns," James suggested.
"Guys, over here," said Alex, gesturing them over.
They followed her and saw some cages made of solid ice, and a number of dragons were in them.
"Don't worry, little ones, we'll have you out here in no time," D'Angelo assured them.
"Tom and pals!" said a familiar voice. They quickly turned and saw Buzzsaw emerging from behind a tree. "So glad you came when I called."
He then placed a whistle in his mouth and mimicked the sound of the dragon. D'Angelo then noticed that some of the dragons were reacting to the screech.
"That's how he's been luring these dragons, by mimicking their calls," he said.
"Yes. You have fallen into my trap, too," Buzzsaw smiled. "Mother always said those piccolo lessons were a waste of time. If she could see me now."
"His trap is to take on six dragons with a dopey whistle?" Eugene scoffed.
"Sorry the place is such a mess," Buzzsaw apologised.
Thunder growled at him, but Tom stopped him. "Easy, Pal. We got him."
"No, Tom. What you all got is very little time to write your wills," said Buzzsaw and then blew the whistle once more.
They then heard the sound of a dragon growl behind them, and then suddenly, they saw a tree being cut instantly. Then, emerging from behind the large stump was a particularly large dragon.
The most notable thing about this dragon was that it had no arms or legs but a pair of very long and razor-sharp wings.
"Oops. Forgot to tell you. I invited another friend to join us," Buzzsaw smirked.
"Uh, Tommy, what were you saying earlier about us having dragons and Buzzsaw not?" Eugene asked.
"Now hand over the lightning dragon and the other ones, or instead of cutting down trees, my friend here will turn you into sashimi," Buzzsaw threatened.
He blew the whistle again, and the legless dragon responded. He looked incredibly angry as he looked down upon the Dragon Riders.
Jun looked at Tom, uneasy. "Tom, I'm thinking it's time for us to…"
"Go!" Tom agreed and immediately made a run for it.
Buzzsaw blew the whistle again, and the legless dragon began flying towards them.
"Thunder!" Tom yelled as Thunder dashed towards him.
Unfortunately, before they could meet, the legless dragon landed in front of Tom, blocking his path.
"Look out!" Tom yelled as he picked himself up.
The legless dragon then swung his tail. Jun jumped out of the way while D'Angelo tackled Eugene to the ground before it struck him. He then began chasing after Alex and James as the two of them ran by.
"Turns out it's true," Buzzsaw smiled. "Revenge is best served cold. Which is pretty easy when you live on an ice cube."
He blew the whistle again, making the legless dragon chase after them again.
"We got to get our dragons," said Tom as he and the other Riders ran.
Unfortunately, the legless dragon blocked their path before they had a chance. He swung his razor-sharp wings and would have cut D'Angelo in two like he did the tree behind him if he hadn't ducked in time.
"How?" D'Angelo asked.
"I got this," said Eugene. "Webmaster, blast that thing."
Webmaster opened his mouth and was prepared to fire, but Tom quickly stepped in.
"Webmaster, no!" he yelled, and Webmaster closed his mouth. "Stand down!"
"What are you doing, Kullersen?" Eugene stared.
The legless dragon suddenly snapped at them, forcing them to jump out of the way.
"That dragon's just scared and confused," said Tom. "It doesn't want to hurt us."
"Tom!" Jun yelled, tackling him to the ground before the dragon's tail struck them.
"Oh, you're so right, Tommy," Eugene glared. "It has no interest in hurting us."
"Move it! Double time!" D'Angelo yelled.
They all quickly ran off right past Buzzsaw, who was just about to blow his whistle again. However, he stopped before he had a chance to duck to avoid his dragon's razor-sharp wings.
"Hey! Not me!" he snapped. The dragon roared at him, and he quickly blew his whistle and then pointed to the Riders. "Them!"
The dragon was now chasing the Riders once more.
"Thunder, blast the tree!" Tom yelled.
Thunder fired a lightning blast at the tree with enough force, causing it to topple over in front of the dragon.
"Go, go, go!" Tom ordered he quickly mounted their dragons.
The moment they did, they quickly took to the air, and the legless dragon tried to follow, but he was tethered to the ground by a rope. Buzzsaw blew his whistle and forced the dragon to return to him.
The Riders didn't leave the campsite right away. Instead, they hid within the trees to observe Buzzsaw. Tom uses binoculars and saw that Buzzsaw was using his whistle to control the dragon.
"Uh, did Buzzsaw actually bond with a dragon?" Eugene asked. "If so, that is one dysfunctional relationship."
"If he was bonded to that dragon, he wouldn't need to keep it tied up," D'Angelo pointed out.
"D'Angelo's right," Tom agreed as he continued to observe Buzzsaw. "It's all about the whistle. Shot note to rile it up, and low note to calm it down."
"Kind of clever, actually," said Alex and everyone looked at her. "I mean, it's still bad, though."
"We need to get that whistle," said Tom.
"Exactly," said Eugene. "Me and Webs will lead us in, and then…."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," said Jun, stopping him right there.
"Why not?" Eugene asked.
"We can't just race in and risk hurting that dragon or those other ones in the cages," said Tom. "Thunder and I will sneak into Buzzsaw's camp, get the whistle, then signal for you guys to fly in and free the other captive dragons."
"What do we do with Buzzsaw?" Alex asked.
"We'll figure that out after we save the dragons. But he can't stay here."
The Dragon Riders looked at one another and nodded, except Eugene, who blew a raspberry.
"I should be the one leading this mission, not him," Eugene argued with the others. "I have the most real-world Buzzsaw experience. I know what makes him tick. Do I need to remind everyone that Tom confused Buzzsaw for a hiker named Keith? Not to mention, his last plan let us right into a trap. I should be the head of the snake."
"Instead, you're the whole snake," said Jun.
"And it's not like your plans are any better," James added.
"Sorry, Eugene, I gotta go with Kullersen," said D'Angelo.
"What about you, Gonzo?" Eugene asked, looking at her.
"You make a lot of good points, but I have to side with the group," she said. "If no other reason, I want to live."
"Okay," said Tom as he mounted Thunder. "Wait for my signal."
He then took off, leaving behind a frustrated Eugene.
Buzzsaw was still at the campsite with his dragon, then began to picture his new dragon-hunting operation.
"Here's what I'm thinking," said Buzzsaw. "Nice log cabin. Authentic forest living. Maybe something with a veranda. And over here, my taxidermy station, so I can mount that lousy lightning dragon's head over the fireplace." He then bent down to one of the ice realm dragons you captured. "Maybe yours, too! It would look so good, wouldn't it?"
The dragon merely snarled at him.
Tom and Thunder were currently hiding behind some rocks, observing Buzzsaw.
"Okay. As soon as he puts down the whistle, I'll grab it," said Tom to Thunder. "Then we signal for backup."
Tom and Thunder then very carefully made sure they kept an eye on Buzzsaw, but then they entered the area where he kept all the captured dragons. Instantly, the dragons began to growl at Tom, undoubtedly thinking he was one of their captives.
"Sh, sh, sh!" Tom hissed at them. "Quiet, quiet, quiet. Hey, we're here to help!"
Tom then saw Buzzsaw turning his head towards him, and he and Thunder quickly hit behind one of the rocks.
"I'm going to find my hatchet," he told his dragon. "You, stay!"
The dragon growled at him.
"You're shackled to the ground; you have to stay," said Buzzsaw smugly.
Tom then watched as Buzzsaw placed the whistle down and walked off.
"This is going to be easier than I thought," he said, looking at Thunder. "Come on, now's our chance."
The two of them quietly sneaked towards the whistle, but Tom felt uneasy as he reached for it.
"Maybe too easy," he said.
He looked around, wondering if this was some trap, but Thunder grabbed the whistle.
"Thunder, no!" he yelled.
A split second later, an ice cage fell down on top of them, trapping them.
"Wow! I'm getting good at this, right?" said Buzzsaw as he showed up. "I figured you'd be the only one with the guts to come back."
Thunder then snarled at him, and he quickly backed away from the cage. "Ah. Careful now, lightning dragon. You might hit me."
Tom placed a hand on Thunder to calm him down.
"It's over, Buzzsaw," said Tom, holding the whistle. "I have the whistle. You can't control that dragon without it."
"Really?" Buzzsaw smirked.
Tom's had a bad feeling, and it was confirmed when he blew the whistle. It was nothing more than a kazoo made to look like the whistle.
"No. What you have is a decoy," said Buzzsaw, brandishing the actual whistle. "But it sure looks like the real one, doesn't it? Watch out, Tom, you might just call an angry string of mallards."
He then burst out laughing. "No one is a match for Buzzsaw, King of Dragons! King of Dragons, I like the sound of that."
Tom certainly didn't. He could only watch as Buzzsaw walked away, grabbing his hatchet.
At the same time, Olivia had arrived home.
"Tom! You won't believe what happened after you guys left," she said, but when she put her back down, she noticed there was no response. "Tom? I'm going to start the mac and cheese."
She went to Tom's room and knocked on the door, but when there was no response, she went inside.
"Huh. Still out filming with his drone," she said, but then noticed that his drone was still in his room.
Meanwhile, the other Dragon Riders were still waiting on Tom's signal, and they were starting to get a little concerned with the silence.
"Ugh! What is taking him so long?" Eugene groaned in boredom. "Where's the signal? He should be done by now."
"Relax, Eugene," said Jun.
"He's probably blown it!" he said, rising to his feet. "Which means I'm going to have to go in and rescue him."
"Tom has a plan, and he'll let us know when we need to do our part," said D'Angelo. "He just needs a little more time."
"Uh, more time? This kid screws up left and right, and I get passed over?"
"That's right," James nodded.
Eugene scoffed. "See, Webs, this is what happens when you're brave, selfless, heroic and have beautiful hair."
"What have Eugene's right?" Alex asked.
Everyone stared at her, surprised, even Eugene.
"Uh, what?" Eugene blinked.
"I'm just saying Tom does have a habit of getting into trouble," said Alex.
Jun sighed; she had to admit that she, too, was concerned about Tom.
"He also has a habit of getting out of trouble; the guy can think on his feet when he's in trouble," James pointed out.
"James is right," said D'Angelo. "We wait for Tom's signal. Right, Jun?" However, she was still contemplating whether or not to wait for his signal. "Jun?"
"Yeah, we wait," said Jun. "For now."
Eugene groaned and laid back down on the ground.
Jun, however, still had her concerns and could only hope that Tom was all right.
Tom was anything but all right; he was trapped in a cage with Thunder watching as Buzzsaw sharpened his hatchet.
"I can't believe I actually got played by Buzzsaw," he groaned and looked at the decoy whistle. "Twice. Eugene's going to eat this up."
Thunder then nuzzled him, and he smiled down at him. "Don't worry, Pal. Don't worry. I'll get us out of here… somehow."
"All right, Lightning Bird," said Buzzsaw as he approached the cage with a hatchet in hand. "Time to pay the price to the King of Dragons."
Tom then suddenly got a crazy idea and then began to snigger.
"King of Dragons?" he laughed.
"What are you laughing at?" Buzzsaw demanded.
"Nothing," said Tom, trying to keep a straight face but failed.
"When a man with a hatchet asks what you're laughing at, you answer the man with a hatchet," Buzzsaw demanded.
"I'm laughing cos you call yourself the King of Dragons, but, uh…" He then sniggered again.
"But what?" Buzzsaw demanded, brandishing his hatchet.
"You can't even ride a dragon," Tom laughed. "I mean, you would think a king controls dragons, right? Bends them to his will. But you can't even get the most basic thing."
Buzzsaw hated to admit it, but Tom made an excellent point. "You might have a point."
"Of course I do."
"Then you're going to teach me," Buzzsaw insisted. "And no funny business from your dragon or chop-chop."
Thunder growled, clearly not liking the idea.
"You heard him, Pal," said Tom. "Just hang here and be cool. I got this."
Buzzsaw then then opened the cage for Tom to get out.
"Okay, Buzzsaw, let's get to work," said Tom as Buzzsaw closed the cage behind him. "You have a lot to learn."
Tom then began starting Buzzsaw's first dragon training lesson with his dragon. Of course, naturally, he was not going to teach Buzzsaw the proper way on how to bond with a dragon; he was only doing enough with an uncontrollable dragon.
"The first thing you want to do is stare them directly in the eyes," said Tom, placing Buzzsaw in front of the dragon. "You know, let them know who's boss."
"Yeah," Buzzsaw nodded. "That makes sense."
"And whatever you do, don't break eye contact," Tom instructed.
"Don't you know who you're talking to? I've never lost a staring contest!"
Then, while all his attention was on his dragon, Tom reached for the whistle in his pocket.
"I think it's working," said Buzzsaw.
However, the dragon head-butted him, sending him flying before Tom could grab the whistle.
"I didn't blink," he said as he sat up.
Tom grabbed the rope around the dragon and began walking him like an overgrown dog.
"See?" said Tom, smiling at Buzzsaw. "You lead, and the dragon will follow. If he doesn't listen, just give him a yank. Got it?"
"Of course," said Buzzsaw, taking the rope from him. "I'm the Dragon King."
"Of course you are," Tom smiled and slowly reached for the whistle.
Unfortunately, the dragon stopped before he could get it, and Buzzsaw began yanking on the rope.
"Come on, dragon!" Buzzsaw demanded.
The dragon then suddenly took off, dragging Buzzsaw across the ground. When they came to a stop, Tom once again tried to take the opportunity to grab the whistle, but the dragon dragged him again.
Tom sighed, slowly realising getting his hands on the whistle would not be as easy as he first thought.
He then shifted his tactic rather slightly by having Buzzsaw feed the dragon. He demonstrated by feeding the dragon first, and when it was Buzzsaw's turn, he attempted once more to get the whistle. Unfortunately, the dragon did only bite down on the fish but also on Buzzsaw's hand, and when he tried to free his hand, he toppled over.
The next thing they tried ended Buzzsaw running for his life while his dragon chased him. Tom ran after them and watched Buzzsaw climb a tree to escape the dragon. Sadly, he lost his footing and fell through many branches before hitting the ground.
"This isn't working," he said as he removed some tweets from his hair. "Time for the lightning dragon to get it."
"No. No, no, no, no," Tom pleaded. "Wait, wait, wait. Many we're just going about it all wrong. I need to fly with you. You know, like… like a flight instructor. You still want to be King, right?"
He then grabbed Buzzsaw and turned towards his dragon. "Just think how cool you'll look flying on the back of that mighty beast, hair blowing in the wind."
"I would look pretty majestic, wouldn't I?" Buzzsaw agreed.
Tom nodded and then slowly approached the dragon, who growled at him.
"Easy, boy," Tom whispered gently. "I'm not going to hurt you. We're just going to go for a little ride. That's all. Then you'll be free."
The dragon grudgingly allowed Tom to mount him.
"Whoa," said Buzzsaw stunned.
Tom offered his hand, but Buzzsaw did not decide and climbed onto the dragon before him. Tom then grabbed the rope that Buzzsaw used as a tether and wrapped it around his waist.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Buzzsaw demanded.
"Safety first," said Tom. "You don't want to for 100 feet in the air, do ya?"
Buzzsaw grudgingly agreed and allowed Tom to tie him to the dragon, but no sooner had he tied the knot than the dragon immediately took off without warning. Thunder watched as they took to the air and heard Buzzsaw screaming his lungs off.
The Dragon Riders were still waiting for Tom's signal, but Jun was pacing up and down with worry about the long delay.
She then sighed and looked at the others. "Dragon Riders, mount up."
"Tom said to wait for the signal," said D'Angelo as he mounted Wu. "That was the plan."
"I'm changing the plan," said Jun. "We're going in."
"Oh, finally!" said Eugene. "Good call, little sis."
"Something's wrong."
Buzzsaw finally had stopped screaming and was now actually enjoying himself as they flew over the ground.
"I'm doing it! I'm flying!" he said excitedly as Tom carefully reached for the whistle. "I'm actually flying! Bow down, creatures of the icy world, to your new leader, Buzzsaw, the King of Dragons!"
Tom was finding it difficult to get the whistle as Buzzsaw waved his hands around excitedly, but he knew he couldn't give up.
The Dragon Riders had finally reached the camp, where they found no sign of Tom or Buzzsaw.
"No sign of Tom," said Jun.
"Or Buzzsaw," D'Angelo added.
"See, I told you he blew it," said Eugene, earning glares from everyone.
Feathers' head then looked up.
"What is it, Feathers?" Alex asked.
She then pointed at a particularly large cage, and to their horror, they saw Thunder trapped inside it.
"Thunder!" Jun gasped.
"Something must have gone wrong," said James. "We get him out of there."
"Follow me," said Eugene. "We're going to free the little dragons first."
However, he noted that everyone had already left and were making their way to Thunder.
"Fine," Eugene muttered. "You guys go free, Thunder. I'm more of a lone wolf anyway."
Jun and the others managed to reach Thunder without any problems.
"Hey, Thunder," Jun smiled.
"We'll have you out of here in no time," D'Angelo assured him.
Unfortunately, Eugene opened one of the cages containing one of the tiny dragons. The moment he picked the little dragon out of the cage, it immediately screeched, and the other dragons followed suit.
"Eugene, wait," D'Angelo hissed. "Those dragons might think you're a trapper like Buzzsaw."
"Well, tell 'em I'm not," said Eugene as D'Angelo and James went to help him out. "Yeah. We're friends, you idiots."
"Sh, sh," Eugene whispered to the cage dragons.
"We're not to hurt you," said James gently.
At the same time, Buzzsaw was enjoying himself until he heard the screeches coming from his camp.
"My dragons," he said and then looked at Tom angrily. "You set me up. This was all a trick!"
"No! No, it's not you think," said Tom quickly.
"I think this is where you get off!" said Buzzsaw, pushing him off the dragon.
At the exact same time, the girls, with the assistance of Plowhorn, were able to lift the cage off of Thunder. Thunder then saw Tom plummeting towards the ground and quickly took off.
Tom braced for the impact but landed on Thunder's back instead of hitting the ground. "Cut down a little close, didn't you, Pal?"
Thunder gave a small growl, asking if he was all right.
"I'm okay," Tom assured him. "Now hit the jets. This ain't over yet."
Thunder then turned and headed back to the campsite.
Buzzsaw was now starting to regret pushing Tom off as he was unable to control the Dragon he was currently sitting on.
"Tom! Tom! I take it back," Buzzsaw cried as he and his dragon flew around in circles. "I really, really need you. Take us down! Take us down!"
The dragon certainly complied and began flying straight down at breakneck speed.
"No! No! No!" Buzzsaw wailed. "Take us up! Up!"
D'Angelo and James were busy freeing all the dragons caught in the cages at the campsite.
"Help us free the rest of the dragons, Eugene," said D'Angelo as they freed another little dragon.
"I think we have bigger problems, D," said Eugene.
Eugene was right as speeding towards them was Buzzsaw on his dragon. They had the ground hard, and Buzzsaw was thrown clear of his dragon. His dragon then immediately roared at the Dragon Riders.
"You know what, I just decided I don't want to lead this mission anymore," said Eugene.
Buzzsaw then stood up and showed that he was still holding the dragon whistle.
"The dragon whistle, he still has it," D'Angelo gasped.
"Tom failed?" Jun stared in disbelief.
"And now, just like your buddy, Tom, it's time for all of you to learn the true power of Buzzsaw, King of Dragons," Buzzsaw announced, placing the whistle close to his lips.
"No! Buzzsaw, don't!" Jun pleaded.
Buzzsaw ignored her plea and bloomed down on the whistle, only to discover that it sounded like a duck. Everyone was completely surprised and taken aback by this, no more than Buzzsaw.
"What?" said Buzzsaw, staring at the whistle. "The decoy whistle!"
"Looks just like the real one, doesn't it?" said Tom as he landed.
"I knew you wouldn't let us down!" D'Angelo cheered.
"Nice one," said James, giving him the thumbs up.
Buzzsaw was still confused. "But how?"
Tom smiled. "Right before you freaked out and shot me off, I made the switch. A real Dragon Rider never loses their cool."
Buzzsaw snarled at him.
"And now, it's time for this big fella to go back home," said Tom, blowing on the whistle and looking up at the dragon. "Go on. Be free."
The dragon was more than happy to leave.
Tom then turned to the other Dragon Riders. "Quick, free the dragons."
"I'm not just going to stand here…" said Buzzsaw before he was carried off by the dragon he was still tied to.
With Buzzsaw gone, the Dragon Riders immediately freed all the dragons.
"Go on, fly very far away from here," said D'Angelo.
Tom then turned and saw that the dragon had disappeared along with Buzzsaw.
"We lost Buzzsaw," Jun sighed.
"We'll get another shot. I'm sure that," said Tom confidently. "Come on. We better head home. I'm late already."
Tom went over to Thunder, but Eugene pulled him to one side before he could mount him. "Uh, hey, Tom. I know you're grateful that I took the reins of leadership today, as are the others, so you're welcome for that. But I think you've actually got a pretty good handle on this leadership thing after all."
Tom raised an eyebrow.
Eugene then coughed. "Sometimes."
"No problem, Eugene," Tom smiled and raised his fist. "Thanks for all your saves today."
Eugene then blew a raspberry. "Lone wolves don't fist bump."
He then clicked his tongue and walked away.
It was late when Tom finally got home; he half hoped he could sneak in without his mother knowing. However, when he closed the door and turned the light on, he found his mother standing there.
"Tom!" she said, making him jump.
"Hey, Mom," Tom smiled.
"Where have you been?" Olivia asked. "It's late. Dinner's cold."
"Yeah. I-I'm really sorry," said Tom. "We kind of lost track of time. Alex is making a video, so we spent all day making aerial shots with my drone. She wanted to get some night stuff, too."
"Your drone?" said Olivia suspiciously.
"Yeah," Tom nodded and then looked around for dinner. "Where's the mac and cheese? I'll eat it cold."
"That's good, cos it's in the fridge."
"Cool. Thanks, Mom."
He then made his way over to the fridge, but Olivia knew he was lying and hiding something and that really concerned her.
