Cordelia made Head Cheerleader, to her delight and Buffy, much to Giles' displeasure and vocal opposition, also made the Cheerleading team.
"You have a responsibility, a Sacred Duty, a Calling. Enslaving yourself to this, this cult, this senseless activity is offensive and totally unsuitable for a Chosen One."
"Did you know that the Wesen's ancestors were worshiped as gods in a lot of ancient cultures? They don't think any actual gods had anything to do with Slayers being created and that men probably did so they could feel big and important about themselves, 'look we command little girls to live and die according to our schedule'. We're bad ass! I do need to do this, Giles, whether you like it or not! I need something besides being a Slayer in my life. I am no more a sacrifice to your beliefs than I am a legend! I'm a human being and humans have needs and those needs include friends and family and feeling like they're a part of something. And I don't feel like I'm a part of your Council! Everything about your Council and your teachings is about how it benefits other people for me to be the Slayer. Nothing in your teachings about being the Slayer in anyway benefits me! I did not stop being a human when I activated. If you don't believe me and think I'm just some mindless drone than ask Xander, his Grimm senses say I'm human! And as a human, I need this, to feel normal, even if I'm not actually a normal human anymore. If you don't like it, than you can just stuff it up your English ass." And stormed out, leaving a stunned Watcher behind.
Later, during his free third period, Xander came by the library. "Sorry, G-man, keeping secrets around this place is awfully hard. I'm not the only one with good hearing, a Wesen overheard you and Buffy talking or more precisely, her yelling at you and passed it on to me."
"And what businesses is it of you or the Wesen?" Giles questioned, still stung by Buffy's comments.
"The fact that their ancestors really were worshiped as gods and they take offense that your Council has declared being the Slayer 'the will of the gods.' There may be actual gods, Giles, and the Wesen never actually declared themselves gods and the end result of them being considered gods, is that in some places, like Egypt, thousands of them were tortured until they woged and then paralyzed in that form and mummified like that. So, you incorporating a belief that the Slayers and by extension, your treatment of them, into a belief based around the gods their ancestors may have been forced to represent, just increases an already painful condition the Wesen have. They try to joke about it, but it tends to be gallows humor."
"They truly believe that their ancestors were consider gods?"
"I talked to my uncle after our conversation the other day when we first introduced ourselves. The fact that your Council has little information about either the Wesen or Grimms and has occasionally considered us to be demons is concerning. We live in fear of being discovered by normal humans and that is just one reason why. Others are that they'll want to study us or enslave us. And with good reason, because it's happened before, in one form or another. At some point, your Council discovered the existence of the Slayer and enslaved her and all those that came after her. You can try to claim the greater good but that argument makes no sense since there seems to be little evidence that you're actually doing any fighting yourselves and actively discourage normal humans from fighting. The evidence suggests that you're just riding the coattails of Slayers and maintaining the current status quo and the only reason to do that, is to make yourselves seem more important than you actually are. You have no actual authority, any where, in any country, we checked. You're not elected, like the Wesen Council is and you add to the fear and uncertainty of hidden groups, like the Wesen, who just want to be left alone to live their lives. How are you actually helping?"
"We find, train and prepare Potentials so they are ready in the event that they are Called and we Chronicle the Slayers activities for future Slayers to learn from."
"Sounds good and necessary, since apparently at one time they activated without ever knowing why and died fighting something they couldn't name. Where did the rest of it come from? The belief that it's the 'will of the gods'? When did you stop supporting them and decide they weren't human, but disposable weapons and therefore should live just for the fight? A sacrifice to your beliefs, like the Wesen's ancestors were? Slayers no more deserve that than the Wesen did."
"You ask good questions."
"Part of our training includes learning observational skills and asking questions. To ask a question, you have to first figure out what needs to be asked. There may be some natural occuring ability there as well because we tend to do well in careers like police work and the law, outside of our work as Grimms."
"How did you come to be known as Grimms? If I may ask?"
"We used to be and occasionally still are, known as the Decapitare. Then the Brothers Grimm collected stories, folktales and wrote them down. Those stories are about Wesen and over time we came to be called Grimms instead."
"Decapitare? Latin for one who decapitates or beheads someone?"
"It's the preferred method of executing a criminal Wesen and works really well with vampires."
"I can see why you prefer being called Grimms."
"Well, it beats being called Grimm Reapers, they're Wesen who get sent after criminal Grimm. Checks and balances, which seems to be something your Council is lacking."
"Your arguments are worth considering."
