Finnick woke up surrounded by the twice as large body of his helper. She was still sleeping peacefully . "When did this happen?" He croaked quietly, his throat a bit dry. Some irritation leaked in his voice. He tried to exit the grip that he was placed in but the blanket that they were in wasn't helping him leave. Eventually, he pushed the blanket off of himself and it only remained on about half of Ellie. Now, he tried to escape the grasp of the vixen that slept with him. It was a task more difficult then it seemed to be at first. The grip was strong and one violent motion could wake her up.
He lifted one of Ellie's paws and tried to drag it back towards her. The paw glided gently in the air, careful enough to not awaken the vixen that was still sleeping. The paw was gently lowered to a clear position between the small and larger fox. The small fennec got up and stealthily scurried to the living room where all the documents remained. As he reached the door, he heard a yawn from the bed. "Up already? You must be in a hurry or, " She mock gasped "Was I that bad?"
Finnick stared awkwardly at the vulpine. He then started to blush lightly. "N-no, y-you weren't." Ellie giggled lightly. The fennec really didn't enjoy the situation that he was currently in.
"Don't worry, Finny." Finnick weirdly didn't mind the name she used. It was almost comforting. She leaned in towards the fennec and gently whispered into his ear. "It'll be our little secret." She then winked at the fennec. Finnick chuckled nervously at the comment, trying to lighten the mood for himself. "You just do whatever it is you want to do, I'll make breakfast, since you are clearly so busy." She then walked out of the room and headed for the small kitchen that laid in the motel apartment.
Once she left the bedroom, Finnick thought about what he was doing. At first, it was difficult as he was thinking about the 'good time' he had last night, but later, he started to bury that thought and weigh up his options for dealing with the Courier. He finally stepped out of the bedroom and walked back to the table in the middle of the living room. He looked at all the documents at once, hoping that maybe there was a bigger picture. Then he slammed his fist on the table, accidentally moving one of the sheets. The sheet looked different to the fennec. "Wait." He muttered while reading it. It stated that on multiple occasions, raw metals and other minerals were traded for miscellaneous use. So much of it was provided that he had to have control over one place for certain. "The mine. The abandoned mine is not so abandoned." He spoke just loud enough to be heard in the flat but not loud enough to be understood.
"What was that, Finn?"
"He uses the mines." Finnick responded gleefully.
"I don't understand, what are you talking about?"
"The courier, he sells a lot of minerals and metals, so he needs to acquire them somehow. And there is a perfect place for it, the mines."
"Wait, you mean, you know where to go?" Finnick nodded in response to the question. "So what's the plan?"
"Right now, I think we should find a place to eat. Then we will go and 'ask politely' for directions."
"Really? Is that nose of yours only for display? Can you not smell the aroma in the air? Did you forget I'm making breakfast? I literally told you."
Finnick looked up confused and took a big whiff of the air around him. "Oh." He then stood there a bit embarrassed. "Well, i-it smells lovely."
"Thank you. Now tidy this up, we don't want anyone finding these, even by accident." Finnick nodded and pulled out the file holder.
"Ugh, who handled this. It has grease stains and one pink tube I don't want to touch." He blew it off. "I can't believe I didn't notice this yesterday."
"We were exhausted yesterday." Ellie reasoned. "You weren't even thinking straight. So lets be honest here, the sleep you had was very helpful." They then smiled at each other. "I'll finish breakfast. A stuffed omelette."
"Sounds delicious." Finnick responded genuinely but it was partially because he was starving, however he didn't want to admit it.
A few minutes later, Ellie returned to the living room, where the table was cleaned, and placed down two plates, each possessing half of an omelette with different additions placed inside. The stuffing was comprised of fruit, meat and other great additions. The two foxes ate the meal with great delight. During their meal, they conversed about what they should do next. "So, the abandoned mines is a target location now, but we can't just go there head-first. We need some idea of what we are going into. So what do we know about the mines so far? I mean, layout, design, et cetera."
Finnick nodded and swallowed what was currently in his mouth. "So we know that it is more narrow with certain areas that are more open. These open areas are treated more as hubs, where the workers relax and take a break. The supports that keep the ceiling up are a mix of wood and metal, depending on when they were made. The newer ones are metal. However, the older support system covers the entrance so if we must escape, we can easily cause a cave in with some of the explosives we have." He then pulled out a map. After placing the map on the table, he pointed to a side room that was out of the way. "If we want to look for anyone important, we will be looking there."
"Weapons?" Ellie asked curiously. "I mean, we will need some form of arms."
"Yeah, just take a pawgun and some explosives. We only want to go to talk, remember?" Ellie nodded, while taking another bite from her breakfast.
"And if it goes south?"
"Then we cave them in. Seems like a fair thing to do. Keeps us alive and away from them. Sure, it costs a few lives but..." Finnick started to slightly shake while speaking. "If it means we live, then we must take it." He stared at his food, his throat clogging up from the words that he just spoke.
Ellie noticed Finnick shaking as he spoke. She thought carefully about her next words. "So, you having second thoughts?"
Finnick broke out of his trance and looked at the vixen. "Hmm? Oh, no no. I'm not."
"Finny, it's okay. I get it. It is difficult to... get the job done, but we have to work with the paws we are dealt. If you want I can do this on my own and you can sit this one out. No-one will know, I promise."
Finnick thought for a second before standing up and grabbing his pistol. "I'm in." 'I have a more important goal in mind.'
Ellie glared uncertainly. "Well, if you are sure." She picked up her pistol and holstered it. "But the first sign of hesitation and I'm bringing you out. I don't want to be killed or have you killed due to you not being able to pull the trigger." Finnick nodded with no emotion present. "Well then 'Zero', time to ensure your precious streak remains."
"Well, 'Popper', I believe it would be best to keep it unbroken." He then whispered under his breath. "But it isn't the most precious thing." He then realised what he said and snapped out of it. Why did he say that? He was completely uncertain by that. But it felt right.
Ellie walked into the bedroom to get changed, while Finnick looked over the documents one more time. He then walked to retrieve his weapons and looked over them carefully. He was debating taking a rifle with him or not. In the end, he decided not to, opting for the peaceful approach.
Then Ellie walked out of the bedroom, looking completely differently in a black dress. With this in mind, she decided to go to the bathroom to brush her fur. After a few minutes, she left and looked much more professionally than when they both woke up. She then decided to brush her fur a bit on her head with her hand. "Hey, Finny, shouldn't you go and clean up now?" Finnick nodded and headed into the bedroom to get changed himself. Ellie looked at the table, which was now cleaned, and then she walked over to her pistol.
She pointed her pistol around while aiming down the sights. Then the door to the bedroom opened and Ellie swung her pistol over, pulling the trigger. "Fuck, watch where you point that thing!" Finnick exclaimed loudly while ducking down.
"Oops, sorry about that but I was just getting to grips with it." Finnick shook his head. "You know I wouldn't shoot you, my little fuzzball."
"Don't call me that and really? I heard the gun click."
Ellie chuckled nervously. "Sorry, just instinct kicked in."
"Yeah, I get it." Finnick sighed. He walked over to his breifcase and picked it up. "Time to head out."
"Yeah, it is."
