Sparring Match
His blasts were relentless. Streams of blue sound waves rushed at her regardless of where she evaded. If she dove behind one of the pillars, then he would fly over on his cloud and clap, emitting a sound wave that demolished the column. If she rushed at him, he pounded his fists on the ground, raising the earth and forcing her into the air, where she was susceptible to more blasts.
Argent flew high toward the sky, but Thunder already lunged at her on his cloud. She constructed several fists made of pure, red hot plasma. Throwing her arms down, she fired them at him like rockets. A brief flash of surprise crossed his face, but Thunder gritted his teeth and swerved from the onslaught, Argent moving her hands for the fists to chase after him, missiles after a moving target.
Argent tucked her fingers to her palm, controlling one fist to snatch Thunder's ankle. He gasped, his cloud slipping out from underneath as she held him upside-down. His arms slackened, and she presumed the blood rushed to his head. She whirled her arm back like a pitcher at the mound, causing the hand to spin Thunder as well, his shouting distorted until she flung him to the ground.
Thunder crashed upon impact, forming a crater in the shape of himself on the earth. She heard Kid Flash whistle and Lightning shout his twin's name in a fit of concern. Jinx paid them no mind and picked at her cuticles. Argent lowered herself back to the rocky field, searching the rubble for any signs of odd movement. She ignored Lightning barking at her, shaking his fists in a fit of rage on his brother's behalf until Jinx snapped at him to stop, tugging on his ear to drive home her warning.
Before Argent could claim victory, a sound wave broke through the ground. She gasped, the shock rupturing the ground and shooting rocks at her. She skipped away, her eyes following the rapidly expanding fissure racing toward her like a cobra after prey. Sparks of blue sliced up after her, the widening gap in the ground making her brows furrow, energy prickling her skin.
She shot into the air as the earth exploded. Thunder rushed after her, gathering energy in his hands. With a roar, he shot it at her backside, her eyes widening, solid blue encompassing her vision.
Huffing, Argent summoned a plasma shield and spread it around her. The blast smashed into it, her ears popping at the catalytic boom. Her hair blew around her, Thunder advancing on her, his hands moving outward, breaking her shield little by little. Argent grunted, focusing all of her energy in front, the sides and back of her wall shattering off, melting into nothing before they hit the ground.
She couldn't match Thunder in raw power. The sound broke through her concentration, her shield weakening by the second. She would be blasted high in the sky by his beam if she didn't act quickly.
But ingenuity blessed her with an idea crazy enough to work.
She released her power and fell just as the beam shot through her afterimage. Thunder gasped, baffled as she descended like a limp ragdoll. The other members of Titans South watched, seemingly baffled and tethered to their spots. Thunder shouted her name and bolted after her on his cloud. He extended his arms, his fingers spreading in a desperate attempt to grab her before she collided with the debris below, ignorant to the soft, scarlet glow swelling in her hands.
As he closed in on her, Argent grinned. She pivoted around and thrust her hand in his face. Burning plasma gathered in the center of her palm. Thunder's eyes crossed, the vibrant energy searing his retinas, his hands still cupped near her waist.
Argent glanced at his palms. In what she deemed a split-second decision, Thunder summoned a sphere of swirling, crackling energy. They both breathed hard, narrowing their eyes on each other, heat building between them, their fellow Titans mesmerized by their every move.
They smashed their hands at each other. Their blows connected, spiraling the other in the opposite direction with an eardrum-rupturing explosion. Argent spun toward the ground, her ankles catching, her surroundings a blur, and she snapped her fingers.
She never hit the ground. Her back landed on a soft material that should not have existed. She sat up, Thunder's cloud cushioning her fall. Argent kneaded through it, her hand emerging damp, bits of rain slipping down her fingers.
On the other side of the battlefield, Thunder laid on his side. He groaned, holding his lopsided helmet and looked at the mattress Argent created without a moment to spare. He pushed himself to his knees, gripping them and blinking the sweat out of his eyes, Kid Flash already darting in front of him, their conversation unheard by Argent.
Jinx skipped over to Argent, Lightning dashing off to join his brother. "You okay? That was quite a blow," she said, extending her hand.
Argent nodded, accepting Jinx' hand and pulling herself to her feet. She wobbled, and the enchantress steadied her before she could tumble. "Sure am. What a ripsnorter of a fight," she said, grinning, Jinx snorting at the peculiar word.
"Indeed!" Thunder bellowed.
She raised her head, finding him hobbling over to her. His grin stretched into his cheeks, his excitement palpable. Kid Flash darted by his side while Lightning groaned, raking his fingers through his hair as he flew after his brother.
"Such magnificent use of your power! I am most honored to have been your opponent today," he exclaimed, resting his hand on his chest. "To feign defeat and use such deception to your advantage shows Thunder is still too inexperienced in the ways of battle."
"No, no, you had me on the ropes," she said, shaking her head. "Really, with those guns, I would've been crushed if I didn't trick you."
"She means your arms," Kid Flash replied when Thunder tilted his head, gently tapping Thunder's bicep, "Oh, and I guess your sonic blasts, too."
Argent chuckled as he gazed at his bruised, flexed arms. "Still, great match, blue boy. I look forward to next week's training match," she said, shaking his hand as he chuckled, nodding as well.
"As will Thunder. It will be an excellent rematch, one worthy of utmost praise," he replied, laughing with the boom of a bass drum.
"My brother would have won if you were not a cowardly trickster," Lightning insisted, crossing his arms.
"Lightning!" Thunder snapped, shocked. "Apologize to her!".
"I am right, and I should say it," he said, lifting his nose in the air and crossing his arms.
"You're not exactly wrong, but a win's a win," Jinx sneered, and Lightning growled at her, Kid Flash stepping in to mediate.
Argent rolled her eyes. Her team was a cast of wildcards, but exchanging a glance with Thunder, she knew she could trust him. His lips pulled upwards in a smile, one that she returned with a wink, and as his complexion darkened, his hand reaching up to rub his neck, Argent patted his back.
"Was that courting? Is she courting you?" Lightning demanded.
"No, brother, return to your bickering with Jinx," Thunder replied.
"Well, I might be, and I might not be. You never know with a trickster," she interjected, laughing softly as Thunder's face turned redder than her plasma.

back around 2010-2012, i pumped out so many thunder/argent fics on my dA. i was *obsessed* with them. i just figured for the last event, i'd come back and give them another go. also because argent can make so many hands for her partners. she's holding hot spot's hand, thunder's hand, starfire's hand, kole's hand, so many hands.
