"Mr. Drift," Emberwing whispered, gently poking the sleeping warrior, "Mr. Drift," she called a little louder.
Drift wakes up, "Huh? What is it?"
"I'm hungry," she whispered holding her stuffed Predacon close.
With a groan, he gets up and goes to get some Energon for her, "Here you go, kid."
"Thank you," she said quietly as she took a sip, "When will Oka-san and Papa be back?"
"Soon, I hope."
"Master, Nightback's gone," Jetstorm shouted as he ran in, sliding across the floor, and bumping into a wall.
"What?" He runs out to look for the kid.
"You think maybe he went to see his parents in Med Bay?" Slipstream asked following him.
"I would hope so. Jetstorm, stay with Emberwing."
"Yes, sir!" Jetstorm replied. Drift and Slipstream went to Med Bay to see if Nightback was there with his parents.
Nightback slowly made his way to find his parents. He found them lying together in Med Bay, with their arms around each other. As carefully as he could he curled up between them and drifted back to sleep.
Drift and Slipstream come in and Slipstream sees him curled up with his parents, "There he is master," he tells Drift pointing over to where the kid is with his parents.
Sighing quietly, Drift left Med Bay motioning Slipstream to follow, "This is why I don't want kids," he muttered.
"But sir, you've already been raising me and Jetstorm."
"You two are different, children require constant looking after. You and your brother are enough."
"Uh... Thank you, sir?"
Drift just moaned tiredly as they walked back to his quarters.
Emberwing was sitting in the middle of a small clearing in the scrapyard while Jetstorm was sneaking up on her. The young femme had her optics glued on a brightly colored butterfly, "So pretty," she whispered not wanting it to fly away.
Jetstorm jumped on her, "Got you!"
Emberwing stopped herself from landing on the butterfly with a grunt, "Jetstorm, I wasn't ready," she whined as she watched the butterfly fly away.
"That's the whole point of sneaking up on someone."
"Can we try again?"
"Sure, close your optics and count to ten," he told her as he quietly went to a different shelf. Emberwing did as she was told and started counting. Jetstorm hid and waited. She stopped counting and looked up at the sky, "She's like me and Slipstream, can't keep focused on anything," Jetstorm whispered to himself.
Her ear twitched slightly when she heard something from behind her, turning around she couldn't see anything. Jetstorm had moved over and was silently walking up to her. The wind slowly picked up, sniffing the air she looked around, her ears on alert. Jetstorm ran up on her. Quickly getting up, being mindful of her injured leg, she tried to move out of the way. He got her a little bit then fell to the ground.
"Are you okay, Jetstorm?" She asked in concern.
"Yeah," he replies as he gets up.
Emberwing helped him up when Drift and Slipstream made their way over, "Did you find him?"
"Yes, he's in Med Bay with his parents."
"He must be really worried," Jetstorm said noticing Emberwing's optics watching the Alchemor.
Steeljaw and Strongarm wake up to see their son sleeping with them, "Wonder when he came in," Steeljaw says in curiosity.
"It must have been early," Strongarm stated quietly.
"Yes, must have. He looks so adorable."
"I bet you did too at that age," she chuckled softly.
"Of course, it's where he got it from," he replied to her with a grin. She playfully slapped his shoulder, "What?" he chuckled softly.
Strongarm only laughed quietly as she watched their son, "I still can't believe he did that yesterday."
"Neither can I, guess he gets my carefree ruthlessness as well."
"Yes, but he also has that sense of wanting to protect those he cares about," she said as she gently rubbed her son's ears.
"Of course, it's part of being a Wolf-Con, we protect our pack, our family."
"I heard that he slapped the Wolf-Con that grabbed Emberwing, hard enough to make him let her go."
"That's my boy," Steeljaw says with a proud smile.
Strongarm chuckled softly, "You know they're going to be inseparable as they get older, right?"
"Yes, I'm sure, and I have a feeling she's gonna be our daughter-in-law."
"I wouldn't mind that, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves. Let's enjoy the moment while it lasts."
"Yeah, you're right."
"I think it's time he should wake up. Nightback, it's time to wake up," she says softly.
He wakes up, "What time is it?"
Strongarm chuckles, "You take so much after your father. It's time for you to wake up. I'm gonna go get some Energon, be good for your dad," she told him as she left.
"I will, Mommy." He looks at his dad, "How are you feeling, Dad?"
"I'm feeling better. Thank you."
"Sorry for running out and almost getting myself killed yesterday."
"Just don't do it again, you really scared your mother. But I'm proud of you for defending Emberwing when she got hurt."
He smiles, "That's what friends are for."
"Yes, but you're still grounded."
His smile turned into a frown, "I know."
"It's only for one day, it'll go by fast for you. You'll see."
"Yeah, you're right. Besides, I wouldn't want to leave your side right now anyway." Steeljaw chuckled before pulling his son into a hug. "Ack, not too hard, Dad."
"I thought you were a tough little mech."
"I am!"
"OK, who's ready for their Energon?" Strongarm asked as she walked in.
"Thank Primus," Nightback said as he grabbed the Energon and drank it.
"So, what were you two talking about before I came in?" Strongarm asked.
"Nothing much, just talking about how strong Nightback is," Steeljaw replied.
"Yeah! I'm as strong as Dad!"
Strongarm and Steeljaw both laugh, "Not quite yet, son. But eventually, you will be," Steeljaw told him.
"By the way, I heard you beat Dad in a fight once, Mom."
"I did, a long time ago. Who told you about that?"
"Uncle Drift, but Dad also told me one time while we were talking. He said he underestimated you and he found out the hard way not to underestimate you."
"That is true. When I met your dad he was a 'Con criminal that had broken out of a stasis pod, and being an Autobot cadet I saw it as my duty to catch him and lock him back up. He attacked me and because I wasn't all that experienced in fighting he took me down with ease..."
"After that, I only saw her as this inexperienced cadet that I could easily take down," Steeljaw continued. "So when we met up again for another fight I felt that there was no way I could lose, I was sure to win. But she ended up beating my tail, she bested me in every way."
Nightback listened intently to the story, "So you both got one win over each other. When did you start falling in love and stop being enemies?"
"After that fight, I started to slowly realize that I was falling for her. Of course, she didn't believe me at first."
"No, I did not. When he confessed I thought it was all a trick to get me off guard, but he proved to me that it was all real and there were no tricks. So we started meeting up in secret to talk and get to know each other, and once I started getting to know him I started falling in love with him," Strongarm says as she looks at Steeljaw. They look into each others' optics lovingly which starts to creep out Nightback.
"Yuck, please stop looking at each other like that."
They both laugh as they look at him, "Sorry, son."
"So, what can I do since I'm grounded?"
"Well, Seajumper can come over and you can play with him," Strongarm told him.
"Really?" Nightback's turquoise optics lit up.
"Yes, really," Strongarm replied, still smiling.
"Thanks, Mom," Nightback said as he hugged his mother and father before racing off to find his friend. "I'll see you later, Dad!"
"Alright, son!" Steeljaw calls after him, "You sure made his day," he says as he looks at Strongarm. Strongarm just smiled.
