A few weeks after the transfer, Optimus was still learning how to deal with his sparked systems. Sometimes, he felt like his normal self and other times he felt so out of it all he wanted to do was stay in the quarters. He hated the emotional roller coaster of being sparked, but the thing that helped him through this the most was his mate, Aquaformer. She gently cared for him and helped him ride through even the rockiest emotions. He knew he would never had made it this far without her assistance.
But this day saw Aquaformer out of the base, as she needed to stretch her wings a bit. Optimus was happy that she was doing this but he was also worried. He didn't want her to be too far away in case something happened to him. Little did he realize that she had already thought of something.
Soon, a knock came to the door of the quarters. Optimus, not wanting to move as he had just got comfortable, sent a code for the door to open. When the door opened, in stepped Jazz. Optimus was a bit puzzled. "What are you doing here?" Optimus asked, obviously confused.
"Your mate, Aquaformer, asked me to come sit with you while she was out" Jazz replied. He could see this being sparked was really taking a toll on the leader.
Optimus looked at Jazz, curiously. "Why would she pick you instead of her friend Ratchet?" Optimus asked, his sparkling muddled processor having forgotten Jazz had been sparked.
"One, Ratchet keeps busy but I think the second reason is more important – I have carried sparklings and know what it can do to a mech's systems" Jazz replied, hoping his visit would be welcome.
Optimus then nodded. "Sorry, Jazz. Forgive me, as I forgot you had been sparked" Optimus mentioned.
Jazz smiled. "No problem, Optimus. You wouldn't believe some of the things I forgot while I was sparked" Jazz answered with a laugh before telling Optimus a few examples.
Optimus smiled when he heard Jazz talk. "I'm glad I'm not really losing my mind" Optimus replied. The two continued to chat until Aquaformer arrived home. She could hear the conversation and was glad that Jazz was being so helpful to Optimus.
It was only a short time after Aquaformer arrived home that the two mechs noticed her. "Back already?" Optimus asked, unaware how long it had been.
"I have been gone for three hours, my love. It would seem Jazz helped you pass the time" Aquaformer stated.
"I just told him about my experience with being sparked, but seeing that you are back, I will head out" Jazz stated.
"Thank you for all your help, Jazz" Aquaformer replied and soon Jazz left.
"Thank you, my love" Optimus stated, nuzzling his mate as she had sat next to him after Jazz had left.
"I want to make sure you are well cared for while you are sparked, my beloved" Aquaformer replied and just let her mate hold her. She could pick the little ones up later. For now, her mate needed her and so that was what she would focus on.
