This is the story I wrote a few years ago on a different account. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember my account login. Also I read over the old version and didn't like how it was written or the flow of it. I'm hoping to fix that in this version. I hope you enjoy!
I was too late. By the time I got to where my destination was, it was all in ruins. The Dark dragon flying away from it all. I could almost not see him anymore as the sky went from blue to black. Smoke had filled up the sky, blocking out the stars.
Everything was quiet. Crickets weren't chirping. All wildlife seemingly to have vanished, mourning from the dreadful thing that Acnolia had brought to them and the shambled village. There wasn't any sounds of distress from the village either. All I could do want pray upon all the gods that some of them had survived.
Smoke rose from what remained of the village, even almost a full day after the ruthless attack of Acnolia. Not one building remained intact, streets were cover in rubble and the unfortunate who didnt survive. Hopelessness was thick in the air of what was left.
I helped those who did survive, bringing them back out of the damage of their once home. Those who were still able to walk helped gather the injured, taking them to the make shift hospital just outside of the village. The two healers that did survive had their hands full with the injured. Everyone kept their eyes on the sky in case the black dragon returned.
Even after seeing this scene countless of time, it never got easier. It was my job placed upon me by the Magic Council. I took it upon myself to help them more so than the council had wished for. There was no way that my heart would allow me to leave all the people who were attacked by the dark dragon to stay living in what remained and the long lasting fear of another possible attack. Fear had lived for far too long over the centuries. The enemy hardly changed over four hundred years.
My feet were planted over a small cliff barely high enough for all the survivors to see me. It might have taken hours, but thankfully, all the survivors had been found. No one looked up at me. It was to be expected. They had lost everything; their village, their families, and their hope. Their world had darkened severly earlier that day.
I closed my eyes, focusing on my magic and its attachment to the moon. I couldn't resurrect the dead but these people will no longer live in fear.
My magic shone out in the moonlight, brightening up the night sky to what could be mistaken for day light. The air around us felt lighter, warmer even, as it healed the people in whole. They didn't deserved what the black dragon gave them, and I was not going to allow them to suffer more than they already had.
"So the legends were true. The Moon Princess." I heard one of the villagers whisper, creating everyone to mumble to themselves. Silence once again filled the air, placing all of their eyes on me. Once I could feel that they were all healed, I opened my eyes, pulling down the hood of my cloak down for all to see my face and the seriousness it held.
"Have hope! Not all is lost! I see many of you who were able to survive something that is believed to be impossible to overcome!" I shouted, with my voice being amplified by the moon so all could hear. "Yet, you are not alone! I am here to take any whose willing to a place that you no longer have to live in fear! This place is impossible to find without a guide! A place unknown to anyone who doesn't live in it! Not one body of government on Earthland is aware that it exisit! Hidden so that the dark dragon can never find you!" I could hear everyone murmuring. Most were unsure of my promises. "A place where you may continue your culture! Surrounded by other survivors who were unfortunate to suffer the same fate you had today!"
"Thats impossible! No one has ever survived the ruthless dragon!" Someone yelled.
"If it is impossible, then how are all of you still alive?" I asked. People were whispering to each other.
"Then why are there no reports of it? Surely word would have spread around?" Another asked.
"Anyone who has suffered greatly like all of you, live in this place I told you! As I had said, this place is unknown to anyone who doesnt live there! Everyone will be a hundred percent safe!" The whispering of the villagers grew. Everyone now on full debate. "The choice is yours! You may stay here to rebuild the village, become travellers, or you my follow me to a new home!"
"How may we continue our culture if surrounded by many whom dont believe in the things we do?" A woman asked this time, clinging on to her baby. I knew she had wanted to raise the kid, the same way she was raised.
"All whom have followed still hold on to their own beliefs! No one there will judge you! The damage from Acnolia is suffered through everyone, bringing everyone together! All that is asked in returned is that is no blood sacrifices of any kind because all life is sacred!" Though the air was still thick from loss, hope was starting to fill the air.
"What about the crimes? What about stealing and murder?"
"What about the education?"
"How do we know that our voices will be heard too?
"If there are any teachers amoung you, you will have a job! Any occupations out there shall continue! Though not for money! There is no need for one! No one shall steal! If there are any needs and wants, let me know and I shall gather them for you! This is to secure the fact that you don't have to worry about being attacked! If there are any traders out there, that would still like to continue to roam for said trading, you will be trained in self defense and travel perferably along with someone who is also well trained in self defense! There are also Magic lessons for all who are able! There are no crimes! There is no need for any for all will be given to you! You will have help from the rest of the town to help build you homes! You will have your own property! Also it shall be voted amounst yourselves to elect the best suited to make sure that all of you and your culture's beliefs are heard! Everyone who dwells in this town shall be protected by me from every outside force who dares to threaten us! Everyone shall be safe!" I waited a while, allowing them to talk amounst one another. From what I could gather, like all the others, they was willing to trust me, even if there was some doubt of a place so promising. The term 'Moon Princess' jumped around the entire group like a ball being tossed around.
"How long would we have to travel to get to the paradise that you speak of?" A woman with a toddler asked.
"That all depends, is there any hunters or gathers among you?" I asked. Not even twenty people raised their hands. There was a little less than a hundred in what was once over a thousand. "Okay, thats a good start. First, all of you need to try and gather what you can of your belongings, anything that you would like to take. Secondly, I need the farmers to bring whats left of their herds. They will not be eaten on this journey. They will help start your farms back up when we get there. Third, I need the healers and gatherers to find a way to safely bring all plants that all of you and your cultures depend on. Also, if there are any muscians, try and find instruments that you are able to play. If you can't find any, let me know and I will supply you with one. We will depend on you to help entertain everyone to help the travelling go easily and help make it appare that we had travel more quickly. That is if only you feel like it. After all this is done, we will start in a three week journey. We should not have any issues getting there." Hestiantly, they all faded out, doing what I had asked.
After what seemed like a couple of hours, everyone was back with what they could find. I helped and made sure that everyone had some sort of bag to help carry their belongings. There was probably not even fifty animals that survived the onslaught. The gatherers found some pots or thing that could be used as such and gathered what they could find. They had even fixed up a wagon that wasn't badly broken to carry the plants and attched it to one of the few remaining bulls.
"Everyone is ready, Princess." a middle aged man informed me. He had the build of either a farmer or a construction worker. I gave him one firm nod.
"Be sure that the farmers know that the herds need to be towards the middle of the group to help keep them in line. Im sure the bull pulling the wagon will easily follow after them." I requested. He gave me a nod in return before running off. I turned to one of the other men, this one slightly less built. "Let the hunters know to spread evenly throughout everyone with their weapons ready in case a wild animal tries to attack. If one does attack, save the kill and we'll eat them when we rest at dusk." He saluted me before running off. I turned to a woman whom dint appear to have a child with her. "If there are any people who have issues travelling by foot for so long distances, can you see if theres any room on the wagon where they won't damage the plants?"
"Yes Ma'am!" She said before running off. It is always nice to see people doing their part to help even after such tragedy. It was already almost dawn yet I knew no one could rest after such horrible events. Travelling would definitely help put them to sleep the next night. I walked down the line making sure everyone was prepared. I could see everyone was still tense and I couldn't blame them. Women were tending to the children, even the recently orphaned. The men mad sure eveything was in its proper place, and made sure the women and children were fine. Everyone who noticed me gave a gratful smile and sometime a wave. everything looked to be in order. So I made my way to the front, making sure to take my time just to make sure everyone was set.
"Princess, I checked with everyone, were all set." said the guy I asked to check on the farmers.
"Thank you." I replied as I sped up to the front. Once there, the sun was almost fully over the horizon. I didnt say anything as I started leading them away from the diaster that was left behind. I was going to make sure everyone had freedom from the fear placed on their hearts not even twenty four hours ago.
"Princess?" I turned my head around slight, letting them know they had my attention. "May we know the name of our new home?" I gave the older gentleman a small smile.
"Caladonia."
