Chapter 1,

Two hundred years ago with the emergence of quirks society was forced to adapt as people with quirks became more and more common. To help to maintain peace in society a new career was born. Heroes. It was their job to stop criminals and fight for justice. But what happens when society becomes too reliant on Heroes and they fail someone slipping through the cracks.

Chapter 1,

Izuka Midoriya woke up with a massive grin on her face, today was her fourth birthday, and it was the day she should get her quirk. She was about to get out of bed when she paused, something felt different. It felt like something had clicked into place and her hands were incredibly itchy.

She absently scratched her hand as she made her way to the toilet. After doing her business she stood on the stool allowing her to reach the sink and froze. She stared hard at her reflection in the mirror, specifically her eyes. They were no longer the same color as her mums and Izuku's but a crimson red.

She lifted a hand to put on the mirror but froze and gaped at the limb, there was now a hole in the center of her hand. She quickly raised the other and saw that she had another hole in the same place. She immediately rushed out of the bathroom and made a b line towards the kitchen where she saw her mother cooking breakfast with her younger brother Izuku sitting in a high chair covered in baby food.

Izuka rushed to her mum and started talking, accidentally cutting off her mothers greeting, "Mum! Mum, mum I got my quirk! I got my quirk!" She soon got her mothers full attention and she looked down at Izumi with a massive grin on her face, "That's great Izumi. Do you know…" her mum trailed off smile vanishing. Staring at Izuka's eyes.

Izuka squirmed under her mothers stare smile not fading, "I don't know what it does yet, but my eyes are red and there are holes in my hands." Izuka started babbling about what it could mean for her quirk and ideas about what it could be. But when she noticed that her mother wasn't looking she grabbed her leg trying to get her mom's attention.

Then she felt something odd. It felt like a warm tingly feeling buzzed in her hand for a moment before shooting through her arm and settling in her chest. Her mother stumbled back and Izumi looked at her hand in confusion, flexing the limb trying to feel if anything was off, when she did this another odd thing happened. A cup on the table started floating and bobbing towards her. As soon as she noticed the cup she stopped wiggling her fingers and the cup fell to the ground smashing into pieces.

That was her mum's quirk. She had her mum's quirk! She was snapped out of her ravelry when she grabbed her mum's arm and shivered, something was wrong. Her mum felt like a void. Like there was a cold void that used to be filled by something. She didn't like the cold feeling so instinctively tried to fill it, she felt the same strange warm tingly feeling in her chest. It felt a bit sticky like it wanted to stay with her, but she wanted to warm her mum up. The feeling shot down her arm and through her hand and finally back into her mum. Her mum now felt nice and warm like a nice summer day.

It took a moment but her mother seemed to snap out of something before staring at the smashed cup and back at Izuka with a horrified look in her eyes. After that day her mother never looked at her the same way again.

X Two years later X

Izuka was now six years old and Izuku was four and a half though his quirk was still showing no sign of appearing. Her mum was getting worried so decided to book an appointment with the quirks doctor. Quirks were a sore subject in the Midoriya household and was a topic avoided at all costs.

It had been this way ever since Izuka's quirk developed, with her mum becoming cold and distant with her especially so ever since Izuku turned four and showed no signs of a quirk. She had long since realized what her quirk did despite what the quirk registry said her quirk wasn't red eyes, but the power to steal quirks.

Izuka was getting more and more worried after each day passed with Izuku not developing a quirk, so as they all got into their car and drove towards the quirk doctor she hoped desperately for Izuku to be a late bloomer. In the hospital waiting room Izuka seemed to be as nervous as Izuku, anxiously waiting for Izuku to be called in.

The moment seemed to stretch on for an eternity as the doctor rounded the corner into the waiting holding a clipboard glancing around the room, "Izuku Midoriya." The man said it in a calm tone with a small smile on his face, a complete contrast to Izuka's mood.

Her mum and brother stood and Izumi was about to follow, but an icy glare from her mum made her shrink into her seat. She gave Izuku an encouraging smile when he looked back at her before disappearing into the hospital corridor. She sat in the waiting room praying for Izuku to have a quirk, any quirk would be fine as long as he had a quirk.

She waited for what felt like an eternity, but glancing at the clock showed only thirty minutes had passed. The people around her gave her concerned looks but she paid them no mind. Finally she saw her mum round the corner holding Izuku's hand, but her stomach dropped at what she saw, her mum had a carefully black face but when she saw Izuku's face it all but confirmed it. He had a look of soul crushing disappointment stuck on his face with his green eyes staring forward blankly.

Her mother didn't even glance at her as she made her way out of the hospital and Izuka scrambled to catch up with her. Throughout the journey back home her mum didn't look at her, not even a glance, she only gave Izuku worried looks.

When the awkward drive home ended Izuka immediately shut herself in her room, not wanting to see her brother's look of devastated defeat any longer. She didn't come out for dinner even though the smell of Izuku's favorite food, katsudon, was making her stomach growl in hunger.

X

The next day Izuka woke up to the smell of breakfast. She got herself out of bed and got dressed in her elementary school uniform. She had become more and more independent after her quirk came in so she never needed her mum's help getting ready for school in the mornings.

She let her body go through the familiar motions of brushing her teeth and desperately trying to tame her messy green hair, to no avail. She left her room as silently as possible and entered the kitchen. Izuku was silently eating his breakfast watching hero news on the TV with a blank look on his face.

Then she saw her mother and stiffened. If any stranger were to look into the scene it would show a normal family going through their normal morning routines, but Izuka knew better.

Her mum always started the morning with a cup of coffee and a bowl of egg and rice, but today Izuka didn't see her mother eating or drinking and a glance at the sink told her that she hadn't finished them earlier. Today her mother was only doing one thing, staring at her.

They stared at each other for a while before Izuka looked away and took a seat at the table, her mum didn't say a word or offer her any food and Izuka didn't dare ask. When they got in the car the tension was almost tangible, but Izuku seemed to not notice staring out the window lost in thought.

When they finally arrived at their elementary school Izuka almost let out a relieved sigh, but it died in her throat when her mother spoke, "Izuka stay in the car please. And wait for me to come back." So Izuka sat in the car waiting anxiously while she looked out the window and saw her mum talking to Izuku, giving him a hug and watched as Izuku disappeared into the school building.

Izuka's stomach dropped when her mum turned around to face the car, she flinched back at the icy glare on her mothers face, a feeling of dread settled in her stomach as her mum got into the car and started driving without acknowledging Izuka.

"Where are we going?" Izuka didn't realize that she had said the question out loud until her mother answered, "Why did you do it?" The question caught her off guard. She sat silently struggling to think of what she could have done before deciding to bite the bullet, "What did I do?"

Her mum's grip on the steering wheel tightened, "Why did you take Izuku's quirk?!" her mother screamed the question startling Izuka, "I- I didn't…" She trailed off, struggling to understand how her mum thought she could do that to Izuku.

The car came to a stop and Izuka took in their surroundings, they seemed to be in a less populated part of the city with only a few other people on the street, but more worryingly it was a part of the city Izuka didn't recognise. Her mum got out of the car without a word and went round to her side of the car opening the door.

"Mum i-" Izuka was cut off as her mother slapped her across the face, and yanked on Izuka's arm forcing her out of the car. Izuka looked up at her mother with tears in her eyes, but only got a hateful stare in return, "I can't bring myself to love a villain. Stay away from me and Izuku! And don't try to find your way back home either!" As the car door slammed shut Izuka couldn't hold back the tears, as her mu- no Inko drove away from her daughter without a backwards glance or a hint of shame.

Izuka felt empty, she had stopped crying a while ago. At first she stayed on the street hoping for Inko to come back for her. It was probably around noon when she realized that she wasn't coming back. So that's how she found herself aimlessly wandering the streets of Musutafu, the she passed gave her worried looks, but did nothing to help her, but Izuka didn't pay them any mind. It was starting to get dark when Izuka finally stopped walking. Her feet ached and she was tired and hungry, she just wanted to go home, but Inko didn't want her there. She entered an alleyway and curled up against a dumpster trying her best to ignore the cold that seemed to sap what little warmth she had.

The next day Izuka awoke with a start, she had a nightmare, but the details were already fading from her mind, the only thing she could remember was Inko's cold hateful stare. She pulled herself to her feet grimacing at the pangs of hunger that made themselves known with the movement. Izuka left the alley and saw that she was in a street full of people, she was briefly overwhelmed by the sight before she slowly started making her way through the crowd.

She became lost in the bustle of the city and eventually found herself at a fountain, she timidly observed her surroundings she noticed a hero in the crowd and she dared to hope that the hero would take notice of a young child in a school uniform alone on a school day, but her small spark of hope fizzled out when the man only smiled at her before walking off to continue their patrol.

As the hours passed Izuka failed to get food. She had last eaten breakfast before Inko… At this point she was getting desperate, she didn't care about how she did it, she wanted food. After a bit more wandering Izuka was drawn to the smell of fresh bread. When she reached the source of the smell she saw it was a bakery, her mouth began to water as she stared through the window at all the baked goods. She wanted the food but she had no money.

Izuka hovered around the bakery even after it got dark. She watched people buy bread and other sweet treats then one the staff turned the sign on the door to close and went behind the counter. Izuka was just about to leave when she saw the employee start putting the leftover bread and other products in a bin bag.

She was confused about what they were doing. Were they taking the food home? Izuka snapped out of her confusion when they took the bag to a side door and left the room. From her earlier snooping she knew that door led to an alley, she quickly darted to the mouth of the alley and watched as the employee let out a tired sigh and put the bag of leftovers into the bin.

Izuka was shocked, why did they throw perfectly good food in the bin? She waited until the person went back inside before she made her way to the bin. It was to tall for her to reach inside so with some effort she managed to push the bin over allowing her access to its contents.

She was just about to open the bag with the leftover inside when heavy footsteps caught her attention. She looked up and saw a man turning into the alley, he had a disheveled beard and greasy hair, he was wearing old dirty clothes littered with holes.

He paused at the sight of her his eyes narrowing, "Hey kid the hell are you doing on my turf?" The man's voice took on a threatening tone and he started glaring at her. Izuka had no idea what this man was talking about; she had no idea what turf meant, but judging on how he said it she could guess it was important.

Izuka had no idea what to say so decided to tell the truth, "Well I uhh… I was really hungry and I saw a man throw some food away." She points to the bakery, "I was trying to get something to-" "NO!" Izuka was cut off by the man who seemed to be getting angrier, "No I won't let you steal from me! Not on my turf!"

"I think I'm gonna have to teach you a lesson." The man muttered with Izuka barely being able to hear him. Before she could respond to the man he lifted his arms and Izuka's eyes widened as his hands detached from his wrist and flew at Izuka and wrapped around her neck.

She felt her windpipe constrict painfully under the man's grip, she immediately tried to pull the hands off clawing at the appendages desperately wanting to take a breath. The man started to walk closer, "I'll teach you to never try to steal from me again."

Izuka felt the strength slowly leavy her limbs, becoming more and more heavy and sluggish as her lungs burned desperately for air. She felt herself slowing down and started to panic even more, her hand gripped onto the man's hand as tightly as it possibly could and then she did something she hadn't done in over two years. She pulled. She pulled as hard as she could, feeling a familiar comforting warmth shoot up her arm, and settled in her chest. She heard the man scream before falling to the ground unmoving, but Izuka couldn't care less as she knelt on the ground desperately filling her lungs with air.

Once she caught her breath, Izuka's gaze drifted to the two objects besides her, and felt he eyes widen at the light of the man's hands lying on the concrete just in front of her, her gaze then switched to the man who was lying on the ground unmoving, for a moment she was scared that he was dead, by she noticed the slow rise and fall of his chest and she let out a sigh of relief.

Then realization struck her like a truck. She had taken that man's quirk, but it wasn't the realization of what she had done that shocked her, it was the lack of guilt she felt. She had once punched a boy at school for calling her a mean name and she felt extremely guilty from it. But as he looked down at the man who had just attacked her she couldn't bring herself to feel anything resembling guilt instead she felt a small flicker of pride for taking the man's quirk she would take better care of anyway. Izuka turned back to the bin and after a moment took a handful of leftovers from it and quickly left the alley never even once considering returning her newly acquired quirk.
