(Max - POV)
I paced my foyer nervously for Lucy to arrive. It was finally the day. The day to tell her what was being hidden from her. I looked to Thorn who gave me some puppy dog eyes. He was my support. I patted his head and he whined for a moment. I heard the brakes of a car engage. I opened the door, and it was Lucy. She got out of her Station Wagon with a bottle of white wine.
"Good evening, Max." she said as she stepped onto my porch.
Thorn rushed to the door and greeted Lucy with an affectionate butt of his head to her leg. She patted him and called him a good boy. I smiled. She was such a sweet, loving and nurturing person. I was hoping she would be understanding of my vampirism.
"Oh, Max, dinner smells so good." she complimented me.
"Thank you, Lucy. I made the salmon of course with some asparagus and little roasted red potatoes." I told her.
"Sounds good." she said as she handed me the wine bottle.
I put the wine on ice. She had followed me into the kitchen. I started getting the table set. Lucy took the plates and cutlery from me. She set the table as I glazed the salmon with a honey Dijon sauce. It smelled amazing. She grabbed the wine glasses and set them at the table. I made the plates and poured the wine.
We started conversation rather easy as we ate our meal. She was so happy to have moved back to Santa Carla. Her sons had fallen in so well with a group and she had taken a liking to the group. It made my heart flutter.
"Lucy..." I started; it was passed time to tell her.
"Yes, Max." she said and sipped her wine.
"Lucy, dear, I..." I began to speak and tell her my story.
I asked her to just listen as I spoke. I watched the emotions flitter across her face. Confusion was predominated on her lovely face. It took some time to tell her everything. I did get it all out though. Lucy swallowed and took a sip of her wine.
"I can prove to you that all I said is true. I can show you evidence." I told her quietly.
"You can?" her voice was quiet.
"I have never harmed you, I never will. Please just watch. Remember I have never hurt you." I spoke and allowed a slow transition to take over my face.
I heard a startled intake of breath from her. I looked to her with my yellowed eyes. I spoke to her as I showed her my true self. I had never wanted this; I was just trying to make the best of it. It was never something I had ever wanted. All I had ever wanted, truly wanted, had been a family. The vampirism had kept that dream from me. Then I had met her, Lucy. I had explained how those boys and girls she had been helping care for, were mine. That had startled her.
Those kids were vampires. Well, one wasn't and two were almost vampires. I had found each one of my boys on the brink of death. I saved their lives. Star and Laddie had been starving when the boys took them in. I still didn't know how Calliope had gotten brought in.
It ended up being a long night. Lucy had stayed until morning. She had so many questions and fears that needed to be assuaged. I had to give her time. Let her stew on all of the information I had shared with her. This was so pretty heavy stuff to find out and to sort through. I wanted her to be mine willingly. Force, I could never do to her. Lucy deserved so much more than that. Hell, she deserved better than me. But I am a selfish creature and I wanted her, no, I needed her more than the blood I used to sustain myself.
I had hope though. When I walked Lucy to her car, she did not reject me when I leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek. In fact, she did not even flinch. That made me so happy inside. We said our goodnights. I watched as she drove off then I returned to my house to sleep and hide from the burning incoming sunlight.
AN: I know the last couple chapters have been short, but I have a method. :-)
