Shadow was at Thorndyke Mansion lying on the roof, reading a book called "Walk on the Earth." then put it down.
"I guess I've seen every place there is to see on this planet, except for the places I'd have to swim to..." he said.
In the living room Cream and Cheese were finishing watching an episode of The Next Show.
"Bye-bye, my friends! I'll see you tomorrow!" Next said.
"Bye!" Cream said waving.
"Chao chao!" Cheese said as Ella entered carrying a pumpkin pie, and set it down in front of Cream.
"I thought you two might like a little snack." she said.
"Thank you." Cream said.
"Chao! Chao!" Cheese said.
Suddenly the TV's image changed to Channel 5 News.
"We interrupt our regularly scheduled program to go live to our SSTV correspondent Scarlet Garcia." a new reporter said.
Scarlet Garcia was then shown at an event and Jerome Wise was at the lectern.
"The President's top aide is going to make a statement before taking questions from the press core." she said.
"The President has decided to take action to stop Dr. Eggman!" Jerome said.
Ella, Cream, and Cheese stared at the screen.
"Huh? What?" Cream said.
At Eggman's base Eggman, Bocoe, and Decoe were watching the press conference from the command center.
"Has the administration developed a concrete plan to stop Dr. Eggman?" Journalist asked.
"Yes." Jerome said.
"Oh yeah?" Eggman said and pressed a button that powers down the screen. "Well, I hope they come up with a disaster management plan, because they're going to need it!" he said and belts out a hearty laugh.
Meanwhile Knuckles was scaling a cliff overlooking Station Square then reached the top.
"All right. Where's that Emerald?" he said then saw the X-Tornado fly past him before he ran back down the cliff.
The X-Tornado was carrying Tails, Chris, Amy, and Frances. Chris was wearing goggles.
"Amy, there's my house down there." Frances said.
"Which one?" Amy asked.
"Do you see the one with the red roof?"
"Yeah. That's great, Frances."
"You should come for a visit some time."
"I will! Thanks!"
"Hey Chris! Do you think we could fly over our school?"
"Uh... Well, I... Maybe..." Chris started but was cut off.
"Guys, this isn't a sightseeing trip. We gotta hurry and track down the next Chaos Emerald or Eggman'll get it before we do!" Tails said.
"I know, Tails. Sorry."
"It's all right. Hey Chris, where'd you get those new hi-tech goggles? From your grandpa?"
"No, my teacher Mr. Stewart gave them to me. Do you like them?"
"Mm-hm. They look pretty cool!"
"Yeah, they're one of the best gifts I ever got!"
Little does he know that his goggles contained a tracking device.
Outside Chris' school Mr. Stewart was sitting in his car in the parking lot, monitoring the X-Tornado's position.
"Amy, look! There's the school Chris and I go to!" Frrances said over the radio.
The X-Tornado flew overhead, and Mr. Stewart pulled out of the parking lot and started to follow the aircraft.
At the White House the President was siting around a small table with two of his aides, Towers, a G.U.N. captain, Topaz, and Sonic. Towers lifted a section off of a model of Eggman's fortress that was set up on the table.
"The power generators for Eggman's base are located under the tower, Mr. President." Towers said.
"Oh." the president said.
"This information came to us from Sonic and Topaz."
"Well Sonic, I'm glad my confidence in you wasn't misplaced."
"I've been a spy for fifty years. I know what I'm doing." Sonic said with her arms crossed.
"We're all very grateful. Now, let's review our attack plan."
"Right." Aide 1 said.
"You're taking all the credit, I see." Topaz told Sonic.
"I did do all the work." Sonic said. "And besides, they're letting me retire after this so the sooner it's done the sooner I can retire."
Then the GUN Captain set up several model ships and planes in front of the model island.
"It'll be a two-pronged assault from sea and air." he said.
"Hm. Yes. But what if Eggman's robots counterattack?" the president asked.
"These forces are merely a diversion. Eggman will deploy his robots against this frontal assault." captain said and set up a model ship behind the island. "Meanwhile, a special forces team will approach the island from the opposite side and sneak into the base from the rear. Once they break into the generator room, they'll cut off Eggman's power supply."
"They'll be backed up by a team from the Intelligence Agency, including Sonic and some other agents." P.T.A. said.
"Good." the president said.
"How come she gets top billing?" Topaz asked aside to Towers.
"You know how it works, Topaz. There's a star in every show. We're just bit players." Towers said.
"Uh, now onto the subject of Shadow." the president said.
"We're ready to capture him and force him to work with us." P.T.A. said.
"Well, now... You see... I've sent someone to try a more diplomatic approach."
"Who, sir?" Aide 2 asked.
At Thorndyke Mansion Jerome and two Secret Service agents were standing in front of the front door and Ella opened it.
"Good day, sir. ... Aah!" she recognizing Jerome as the same man whom she saw hold the press conference earlier that day. "You're... the President's aide!"
"Is Shadow at home?" Jerome asked.
"Huh? I don't know. Who's he?"
Shadow was sleeping on the roof, oblivious that what was happening below him.
"I'd like you to let Shadow know that I didn't come here to capture him. I simply came at the request of the President to ask for his cooperation. You should also tell Shadow that if he does agree to work with us, he will be rewarded. The President gave his pledge that Shadow and his friends will be offered citizenship, and they'll be paid for their services." Jerome said.
"That's all very nice, but I don't think I know no Shadow." Ella said.
"We know you know Shadow..." he said then opened a booklet and turned to a page. "...Ella."
"Oh! But how do you know my name?"
"We know all about you, this house, and your visitors."
"I already told you I don't know nothing, so why don't you put an egg in your shoe and beat it!"
"I can cause lots of problemas for you, lady." he said. "Get Shadow!" he continued but already shut the door. "You..." he said trying to pull it open but failed.
Ella opened the door and threw a bucket of water at him. The other agents stared in shock.
"What kind of security is this?! They're supposed to jump in front of me! Now I smell like floor wax!" he said from outside while Tanaka headed down the stairs.
"Ella, who was it?" Tanaka asked and she stormed up the stairs.
"Just because he's the President's big shot assistant, he thinks he can threaten me! Well, I just showed him that he's all wet!" she said and he looked confused.
At the White House the group were in the Oval Office and the President was on the phone.
"Yes, I see. Bye." he said and hung up. "He couldn't even get in the door to see him."
"Who knew hedgehogs were so headstrong?" Aide asked.
Back at Thorndyke Mansion Jerome's car left and Shadow was still resting on the roof.
At the White House.
"It looks like we'll have to stop Eggman ourselves, Mr. President." P.T.A. said.
"I suppose we'll have to count Shadow out." the president said.
"You don't need him in the game." Sonic said and he looked at her. "Heh. Not when you got me doing it for you."
"Ah, you're right, Sonic!"
"I'm not going to let anything stop me from getting my hands on a Chaos Emerald to end him this time." she said to herself and chuckled.
Meanwhile Mr. Stewart saw that the X-Tornado was leaving the Station Square city limits.
"I wonder where they can be headed to now?" he said and drove onto a highway onramp leading to Highway 1.
At the X-Tornado the Chaos Emerald started glowing.
"The Chaos Emerald's picking up something!" Tails said.
"That's great!" Chris said.
"See it on the locator screen?"
"South-southeast!"
"Chaos Emerald, here we come!"
"Okay."
Then they turned around.
At Station Square Mr. Stewart was driving along the highway and glanced at the screen.
"Hm. They turned again." he said and turned around as well.
At a corn field he X-Tornado had landed in a corn field.
"The scopes say there's a Chaos Emerald in this field. We beat Eggman to it! Open up so we can start looking!" Chris said.
"We can look from here." Tails said and Chris glanced at him in surprise. "Wait and see." he said, pressed a button, and the X-Tornado slowly started to transform.
"What's this?" Frances asked.
After a few more minutes, the X-Tornado finished transforming into a walker.
"Wow!" she said.
"Wow, Tails! What did you do?" Amy asked.
"I transformed it into an all-purpose robot called the X-Cyclone. What do you guys say we take it for a little stroll?" he said rubbing his nose.
"Uh-huh." Chris said.
"Now let's find that Chaos Emerald!"
Then the X-Tornado started lumbering through the corn field.
At Station Square Mr. Stewart, was still driving on the highway and saw that the moving dot had stopped east of where he was. He listened to Chris' conversation with his friends.
"A Chaos Emerald, eh?" he said, picks up a tiny communicator and contacted his superiors. "This is Chalkboard Charlie calling Homeroom. Come in, Homeroom. Over."
Clouds started to move in, and the Chaos Emerald was still glowing. The group were gathered around one spot in the corn field.
"Looks like there's a Chaos Emerald right under our feet!" Chris said.
"Mm-hm!" Tails said.
"But we didn't bring a shovel." Amy said.
"That's okay. We've got the X-Cyclone to dig for us! Isn't that right, Tails?" Frances asked.
"Hey, yeah! You said it was an all-purpose robot." Chris said.
"I... didn't include a digging function..." Tails said.
Surprised, the others sweatdrop.
"It's not all-purpose then, is it?" Amy said.
"...Not exactly..."
"Heheh... Guys, I bet the farmhouse we saw has a shovel we could borrow." Chris said.
"I'll go with you!" Frances said and they headed for the barns.
At the White House.
"This may well be our only opportunity, Mr. President. If Eggman leaves the chase after that Chaos Emerald, we can attack the base while he's gone. It'll improve the odds for our success." P.T.A. said.
"And we'll have Eggman on the run." Aid 1 said but the President was looking out the window, deep in thought. "Mr. President." they said and he finally turned to them.
"All right, then. Let's get this job done!" the President said.
At military base two pilots board their military aircraft.
"Prepare for takeoff." Control Tower said.
"I wonder what's up now?" Knuckles wondered watching from afar.
Outside Eggman's base.
As a fleet of battleships neared the island, other soldiers were setting up communications equipment on an island not far from Eggman's island.
At the Command center Eggman, Bocoe, and Decoe were watching an infomercial, which depicts a cleaning product.
"Now folks, let's see how a single application of V10 stain remover handles this gooey grease stain! Wow! Look at that! V10 gets rid of those nasty stains in no time at all!" Voiceover said.
"That's rad." Decoe said.
"Let's call and order some." Bocoe said.
"I wish that stuff got rid of infomercials, too.
"Just think - you'll save a bunch with just one bottle of-"
Suddenly the screen's image was replaced by a still.
"They found a Chaos Emerald buried in a corn field in Tingalin Villa." News reporter said.
"What kind of show is this?" Eggman asked.
"Yes, near Tingalin Villa, a giant gem landed there and they're starting to dig right now. It's near-" News reporter 2 started but was cut off.
"Hey, we're in the middle of a TV show!" News reporter 1 said and the screen's image changed back to the infomercial.
"Call in the next ten minutes and receive a bonus bottle at no extra cost!" Voice cover said.
Sitting down again, Eggman pressed a button and the screen changed to a slot machine.
"Bring the cards." Eggman said and Decoe gave him the cards.
"Here you are, Doctor." he said and Eggman took the cards and studied them.
"Now then... I'm not sure..." he said and placed the deck in the slot and closed the hatch. "Alright." he said and pulled the lever. "Here goes!" he continued while the slots spun, and all three slots stopped on E-35 Funfun. "Aha! Funfun! Perfect!"
Back outside Eggman's base
A secret runway was revealed, and Funfun took off into the sky, followed by Eggman in his Eggmobile. However, they hadn't gone undetected.
"There he goes. Get ready to mobilize." officer said.
A the military base several fighter jets took off.
"Squadron A is away! Squadron B, get set for your run on the island." control tower said.
Knuckles was standing outside the fence surrounding the military base.
"They're attacking Eggman's base!" he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Stewart was driving along a secluded road, nearing Tingalin Villa.
At Tingalin Villa the Chaos Emerald in the X-Cyclone glows, Chris, Frances, Tails, and Amy dug for the Chaos Emerald buried in the ground.
"It must be deep." Tails said.
"Just keep digging." Chris said.
Suddenly they hear the sound of an engine from above.
"What's that?" Frances asked.
"Sounds like a jet!" Amy said and a shadow passed over them, and Funfun landed nearby.
"What's that?!"
Eggman floated down next to Funfun.
"Oh no! It's Dr. Eggman!" Chris said.
"Do something!" Amy said to Tails and he nodded and climbed into the X-Cyclone.
"Have you found my Chaos Emerald yet?" Eggman asked then Tails turned the X-Cyclone around to prepare for possible combat.
"We're not gonna give it to ya!" he said.
"That's right!" Amy said.
"Very well... I'll just take it then." Eggman said.
"Hey, I'd better find a phone and call Shadow!" Chris said.
"Tell him to hurry!" Amy said.
"Come on, Frances." Chris said.
"Okay." Frances said and they left.
"Go! Get them, Funfun!" Eggman said.
"Stop 'em, X-Cyclone!" Amy said.
"Let's go!" Tails said and converted the X-Cyclone back into the X-Tornado then flew toward Funfun.
However, the giant fan on Funfun started to turn soon creating a strong current of causing the X-Tornado to stall in midair, and blew Amy away.
"Amy!" Tails said and crashed into the ground.
"You're blowing those brats away! Good work!" Eggman said.
The wind started to push the X-Tornado along the ground.
"Uh-oh..." Tails said.
The wind started to spread. Chris saw it coming and dropped to the ground with Frances.
"Look out!" he said.
The wind spread through to the other side of the corn field, even destroying two buildings from hundreds of yards away.
"This is the most "Funfun" I've had in a long time!" Eggman said laughing.
The X-Tornado continued to slide along the ground.
"The control stick is jammed up!" Tails said.
The intense wind was strong enough to blow Chris' goggles away.
Meanwhile Mr. Stewart was still driving along the road.
"That cornfield must be around here somewhere..." he said and caught sight of the dot on the radar moving rapidly away from him.
Then he looked out the window up at the sky.
"Where is it? Where?" he said and got back into his car. "They're headed the other way!" he said then saw that the dot had moved out of range. "All right!"
At the vicinity of Eggman's base.
Several battleships and formations of fighter jets fired dozens of missiles at Eggman's base. They all striked the base with sheer precision.
At the Command center.
"What's happening?" Bocoe asked.
"It's an attack, you bolt-brain! The fighter planes are firing at us, and their battleships too!" Decoe said.
"We will show them! Let us launch our counterattack!"
At the vicinity of Eggman's base three robots were deployed: E-11 Beacon, E-13 Guardbot, and E-14 Sneezer.
Upon landing on the beach, Sneezer launchds three missiles. The first two miss, but the third hits one of the battleships. While Guardbot shot down one of the fighter jets, two others shot at Beacon, only to be destroyed by the same robot. Sonic, Topaz and several GUN soldiers observed this.
"They're putting up quite a fight. Now let's knock out the power." Sonic said and Topaz nodded while Sonic lead the way.
At the White House a crew was preparing the President's telecast. He was rehearsing his speech.
"My fellow civilians, er, I mean, my fellow citizens, today our milinary- no, uh, our military is-" he started but was cut off.
"We're live in fifteen seconds, Mr. President!" crew said and the President straightened his tie and cleared his throat.
At Station Square a giant screen showed Scarlet Garcia in front of the White House.
"We interrupt our regular broadcast to bring you this live emergency address from the President." Scarlet said.
"My fellow citizens, today our military forces launched an all-out assault against the headquarters of Dr. Eggman. Despite repeated warnings, Dr. Eggman has continued to threaten the peace and well-being of our nation." the president said.
At the mansion Cream was in the living room and after watching the speech she was filled with determination.
"We have to tell Sonic about this!" she said and raced out of the room while Cheese tried to follow but stumbled, picked himself up, and continued running.
At the vicinity of Eggman's base as the fighter jets and battleships launch more missiles and bullets at the fortress, the robots continued to shoot down jets.
"This conflict is unfortunate, but we cannot allow Dr. Eggman to achieve his goal of world domination! We must stop him now before it is too late!" the president said voiceover.
Then a bomb set up by GUN exploded, and Sonic entered the base through the newly-made hole, followed by the rest of the GUN troop.
More jets were prepared for battle with Knuckles hiding aboard one of them.
"Second squadron, go!" control tower said and the second wave of jets is launched.
Back at the mansion Shadow and Cream entered the garage.
"Hey, Tails! Let's go- Huh?" Shadow started but the garage was empty.
"How could he leave without you, Shadow?" Cream asked.
"X-Tornado is gone." he said when Chuck appeared from the stairs with a cup in his hand.
"Hi there, Shadow. Tails went flying with Amy and Chris and his friend Frances. I'm not sure where. They left quite a while ago, so I don't think they'll be gone too much longer." Chuck said.
"Lousy time for a joy ride!"
On the road Mr. Stewart caught sight of Chris' goggles in the grass.
"These are the goggles I gave Chris. I hope he's okay..." he said and headed back to his car.
At Tingalin Villa Chris and Frances were still on the ground, sheltering from the wind.
"Ugh, the wind's got us pinned down!" Chris said and he and Frances looked up to see Amy hammering stakes into the ground in an attempt to get to them. "Amy!"
"Don't worry! I'm almost there!" Amy said.
"Yes!"
Meanwhile, Tails struggled to transform the X Tornado back into the X-Cyclone.
"Shoot!" he said then finally got it back up and turned to face Eggman. "I won't let you win, Eggman!" he said and Eggman laughed.
"That measly machine of yours is no match for my robot!" Eggman said.
"Oh yeah?"
"Let's compete to see whose robot rules! Knocking the wind out of your puny X-Cyclone will be a breeze!" Eggman said and punctuated the word "snap" by snapping his fingers and Funfun greatly increased its wind speed. "It seems Tails is in way over his head!"
Tails struggled to keep the X-Cyclone upright, but it buckled - and was finally blown away.
On the road Mr. Stewart was close enough to Tingalin Villa that he could see the X-Cyclone being blown away. Suddenly he was hit by the gust of wind. Corn left completely obscure his view as his car started to move backward.
"Gah! I can't see! ... It's like a tornado!" he said and with nothing left to do, he picked up his cell phone and dialed a number. "this the Thorndyke residence?" he said in a disguised voice.
At the Mansion Chuck was in his lab on the phone with Mr. Stewart. Shadow and Cream were present.
"Yes, that's right... Sorry, what did you say? Speak up! ... They're at Tingaling Villa? Thanks a lot, I'll send someone after them right away." he said then hung up.
"Who was that, Grandpa?" Cream asked.
"He didn't say who he was." Chuck said then looked at Shadow. "Chris needs your help at Tingaling Villa."
"Right." Shadow said and raced out of the garage on his way to Tingalin Villa to rescue his friends from the clutches of Eggman.
