Chapter 4: Together Breakfast
It was morning as Dedede was asleep on the couch with a book over his face until he woke up from hearing Steven running to a window.
(opens the windows to watch the sunrise) "Everyone's out. Guess I'm makin' us breakfast." Steven said
"What are you gonna make?" Dedede asked
"You'll see, and while I'm making breakfast, can you look for Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet for me?" Steven asked
"Sure thing kid." Dedede said (gets up from the couch and heads to the temple door)
(Montage sequence of Steven rummaging his kitchen and making breakfast, starting with a stack of waffles with lots of syrup on them)
(knocks on temple door) "Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst? Is anyone home?" (turns around with a determined look on his face) "Hm!" Dedede said
(Steven then microwaves some popcorn and dumps them over the waffles.)
(sitting in front of the Warp Pad) "One, two, three, warp in!" (falls over to his side and sighs) "I guess they're still out saving the world." Dedede said
(Steven then sprays a mountain of whipped cream on top of the waffles.)
(looks at the breakfast he just made) "Look at you, you are out of control!" Steven said
(opens the front door of the house) "Pearl? Garnet?!" Dedede asked (goes back inside)
(Continuing to improve the breakfast, Steven takes a strawberry and carefully places it on top of the whipped cream. He then lifts the breakfast up in triumph.)
"It's done!" (sets it down in the kitchen, sighs, and flops next to the breakfast) "That thing's too good for the two of us to eat alone. It's a... 'Together Breakfast'." Steven said
"Oh, so that's what you were making, I've never seen a breakfast like this before." Dedede said
(The Warp Pad suddenly beamed in, startling Dedede and Steven. Garnet then appears from the warp stream, carrying a scroll in her hand.)
"Ah, Garnet, perfect!" (picks up the Together Breakfast) "Check it out! It's not exactly healthy, but it's in a stack, so I guess you could say, it's a... balanced breakfast?" Steven asked
(Steven strains a smile at his own joke as Dedede laughed from it, trying to get a reaction from Garnet, but she didn't.)
"You know, like I made us all breakfast. I thought we could eat together. Like, like best buds!" Steven said
"He made it for the five of us to have together." Dedede said (as he was about to put an arm over Garnet's shoulders only to get it slapped away by her.)
"I can't stay. There's business to attend to inside the temple." Garnet said (shines her gems at the Temple Gate and it opens)
"Aw, business? Like what?" Steven asked (sets the Together Breakfast on the kitchen counter)
"I have to burn this." Garnet said (unfurls the scroll, revealing strange mystic symbols, as ominous whispers are heard)
"Cool!" (takes a photo of the scroll with his smartphone, and Garnet snatches it away) "Ah!" Steven yelped
"I have to burn this, too." Garnet said (leaves into the temple and the Temple Gate closes behind her)
(runs up to the gate) "No, my apps! Door!" (lifts his shirt and presses his gem against it) "Open, door!" (Nothing happens.) "Aw, you never work when I need it." Steven said (walks away dejected)
"Man, Garnet must be serious about that scroll to take your phone." Dedede said
"Maybe." Steven said
(Just then, a purple police officer bursts in through the front door of the house, wielding a water gun.)
"Dumb Police! Uhhh, you're dumb!" the Dumb Police Officer said (shoots the water gun)
(notices the water gun is aimed at the Together Breakfast and jumps in front of it in slow motion) "Nooooooo!" Steven shouted (gets squirted on his chest)
(The purple police officer starts laughing and his head shapeshifts, revealing to be Amethyst all this time.)
"Oh man, I totally got you! You should've seen the look on your face!" Amethyst said
"Aw, I knew it was you." Steven said (gets up and walks towards his closet)
"I didn't." Dedede said
"Pfft, how?" Amethyst asked
(changes into a new dry shirt) "Because that's a water gun. And I'm not dumb." Steven said
(points at Steven's shirt) "You've got something on your shirt." Amethyst said
(Steven looks down and inspects his shirt. Amethyst then squirts another blast of water at him and laughs as Dedede laughs as well. Just then, the Temple Gate starts opening.)
"Hey, that's my door!" Amethyst said (shapeshifts back to normal, drops the water gun and runs towards the gate)
"They can open each other's doors as well?" Dedede asked
(Pearl is seen exiting the temple through Amethyst's door with a sword in her hands.)
(sees Amethyst, annoyed) "Oh, Amethyst, there you are. Care to explain what one of my swords was doing in your room?" Pearl asked
"One of what?" Dedede asked
"Having a sword party." Amethyst said
"Oh please, you took it!" Pearl said
"I did not!" Amethyst said
"It's fine. It's in the past, I forgive you." (swings the sword over her shoulder, as Amethyst groans) "Also, I cleaned up your awful, awful mess. You're welcome." Pearl said
"You did what?! I have a system!" Amethyst shouted (runs into the temple and the gate closes as Dedede tried to follow her in only to slam face forward into the temple gate)
"Amethyst, wait!" Steven shouted
"What's the matter, Steven?" Pearl asked
"I wanted us all to have breakfast together. So I made a Together Breakfast." (points to the breakfast as Dedede stumbled by woozy from hitting the temple gate) "But everyone keeps leaving." Steven said
"Ah, that's nice." Pearl said (opens her door of the Temple Gate, revealing waterfalls in her room, and walks and sinks into the water)
"Oh no, not you too! I can't let this become 'Together Brunch'!" Steven said
(Steven picks up the Together Breakfast and runs towards the door, managing to keep it from closing with his arm, and is about to slip inside Pearl's Room until Dedede ran in bumping into Steven causing him to stumble a bit almost dropping the Together Breakfast as Dedede fell onto the ground.)
"Sorry about that, whoa." (looks ahead to see how big Pearl's room is) "this is what Pearl's room looks like? I thought it was just a simple bedroom?" Dedede asked
(Dedede and Steven then saw Pearl emerging from the top of a waterfall, as she performs a short ballet dance and summons her sword collection. She then replaces the missing sword back into its scabbard.)
"Hmm, there we go." (adjusts it upright) "Ahh…" Pearl said
(shouts) "Hey, Peaaaarl!" Steven shouted
(notices Dedede and Steven, as her sword collection sinks back into the waterfall) "Steven, what are you and Dedede doing in here? You know it's dangerous for you to be inside the temple." Pearl said (reopens the Temple Gate back to Steven's room)
"We're gonna have a nice Together Breakfast, even if I have to get my shoes wet." Steven said (steps into Pearl's waterfall pool and sinks into it up to his chest)
"WHAT?! Get out of there!" Pearl shouted
(holding the Together Breakfast up high) "I'll swim it over to you." (starts swimming) "See, doggy paddle, forward." (notices the water descending, as he gets pulled towards the waterfall) "Oh gosh, wait! Doggy paddle, reverse! Reverse!" Steven said in panic
"Steven!" Pearl shouted
"I got him!" Dedede shouted (Tries to save Steven only to fall into the water and pulled in the same direction as Steven)
(panicking while falling, before noticing the waterfall bends in odd angles) "What the...?" Steven asked
"What just happened?" Dedede asked
(Dedede and Steven keep riding on the gravity-defying waterfall, bumping through several waves, until they reach the bottom.)
"Whoa! Keep it Together Breakfast!" Steven shouted (splashes into the water below)
(Dedede and Steven washes up on shore of Amethyst's room, with the Together Breakfast still intact in Steven's hand. They slowly get up and see Amethyst, examining Pearl's organization in her room.)
(flips over a pile of organized junk) "Better…" Amethyst said
"Amethyst." Steven said
"Oh, hey, Steven, Dedede. Did you guys come down the waterfall? Pearl gets so mad that I have her junk, but it's always falling down here." Amethyst said
Junk like what?" Steven asked
"Junk like... you!" (picks up Steven, laughing) "Imma throw you in the junk pile!" (tosses him onto the pile) "Isn't it awful? Pearl organized everything." Amethyst said
(walks over to the pile and stands next to Steven) "Everyone has their own way of being organized." Dedede said
"Still looks messy to me." Steven said
"Aw, thanks. I try. BOOM!" (kicks away a small junk pile and notices the breakfast Steven is carrying) "Oh, what's that Steven?" Amethyst asked
"It's a Together Breakfast." Steven said
"He worked hard on it while I was looking for you and the others." Dedede said
"Alright, snacks!" Amethyst said (reaches to grab it)
"No!" (pulls it away) "It's for everyone to eat together. That's the essence of Together Breakfast." Steven said
"Oh... Gimme, gimme!" Amethyst said
"She's gone mad!" Dedede shouted
(Amethyst attempts to take it and chases Dedede and Steven into a cavern corridor.)
(running) "We have to eat it together!" (running through the twisting corridor which turns him and Dedede upside down) "Huh?" (The Together Breakfast begins to fall due to gravity.) "Woah!" Steven yelped (manages to catch it, before the corridor turns back upright again)
"What just happened?" Dedede asked
"You can't outrun me, all three of us have short legs!" Amethyst shouted
(Dedede and Steven come to the end of the corridor and see a room full of floating platforms, forcing them to stop for a moment.)
"How big is this temple!?" Dedede asked in shock
(still running after them) "Dedede! Steven! I'm hungry!" Amethyst shouted
(start hopping between platforms) "Just... hold... on! An exit! Woo!" (leaps down towards the final platform, causing the Together Breakfast to fall apart, but manages to catch all of it in order) "Skills!" Steven said
"That was too..." (looks back to see Amethyst still chasing them) "She's still coming!" Dedede shouted
(jumps after Steven) "Get back here!" Amethyst shouted
(running) "You're completely missing the point of this!" Steven said (jumps and clings onto a crystal pole with Dedede grabbing onto it below him)
"Amethyst is crazy when she wants food!" Dedede said
(alarmed) "Hey, wait a second!" Amethyst said
(entering from the other side) "Steven! Dedede! There you are!" Pearl said
"Pearl, sweet! Two out of three." Steven said
"Only one to go." Dedede said
(noticing what they're clinging to, worried) "Oh, oh! Steven, Dedede, be careful!" Pearl said
"Why? Wha?" (looks up and sees a heart-like structure, making beating noises) "Whoa…" Steven said
"That's a big heart." Dedede said
"You two really shouldn't be in here, this is the Crystal Heart. Oh! It's connected to the most dangerous areas of the temple! Hold on tight, and don't look down." Pearl said
(looks down, sees a dark abyss and starts panicking) "Aaah!" Dedede and Steven yelled (loses their grips and starts sliding down)
"No!" Pearl and Amethyst shouted
(screaming as he and Dedede slide past a bright room with pink clouds; the music briefly changes to a more serene track) "Oh hey, this isn't so bad." (continues sliding into a darker room with jagged walls, the serene music stops) "Ah, nevermind!" Steven shouted
"This day started out great before we slipped into Pearl's room!" Dedede shouted
(Dedede and Steven eventually come to a halt when the pole bends horizontally. They look around and see Garnet, walking towards a pool of lava. She takes out Steven's phone, snaps it in half, and drops it into the lava.)
"Aw…" Steven said
"There goes my progress on frog warrior." Dedede said
(Garnet then unfurls the scroll, dips it into the lava and begins to burn it within a bubble. Steven slides off the pole as Dedede tries to do the same, and Amethyst and Pearl join him from above.)
(whispering) "Steven, we're getting you out of here." Pearl whispered
(whispering) "Come on." Amethyst whispered
(slams on the ground next to Steven startling the three.) "I'm okay!" Dedede shouted
(Garnet gasps at Dedede and Steven's presence. The smoke inside the bubble tries to escape, but is stopped by Garnet.)
"We can finally eat!" (Pearl and Amethyst run towards Garnet) "I mean, we don't have any forks, but we can use our hands! I'm not gonna judge." Steven said
"I don't mind eating with my hands." Dedede said
(trying to contain the visibly-struggling smoke in the bubble) "Steven, Dedede, go!" Garnet shouted
"Okay, want to meet in the kitchen?" Steven asked
(Garnet gets distracted and the bubble pops. The smoke begins to expand and attack the Gems. The Gems then summon their weapons.)
"It's trying to escape! Force it back!" Garnet shouted
(The Gems begin to fight the smoke monster, physically hurting it while Dedede and Steven backs away. The smoke monster then dashes towards and hits Steven.)
"Steven!" the Gems shouted
(The smoke monster seeps into the Together Breakfast.)
"Ugh…" (The breakfast begins to move on its own.) "Together Breakfast?" Steven asked
(The Together Breakfast transforms into a massive grotesque monster, made of the breakfast's ingredients, and wraps Dedede and Steven in syrup. Pearl hurls her spear at it, drawing its attention.)
"It's taken refuge in organic matter!" Pearl shouted (The monster attacks Pearl and sticks her to the wall with a mix of whipped cream and syrup.)
"Now it has all the power of a breakfast, we have to destroy it." Garnet said
(surrounded by whipped cream) "AAH!!! It's horrible!" Pearl shouted
(The monster snaps Pearl's spear in two. Garnet tries to punch the monster, but her gauntlet gets stuck in whipped cream. Amethyst tries to pull Garnet away.)
"I didn't want this!" (pushes against the weight of the monster with the breakfast plate) "I just wanted to eat together like, like best buds!" Steven shouted
"Steven, you and Dedede got to get away." Garnet said
"But the breakfast!" Dedede shouted
(The monster launches a giant waffle at Garnet and Amethyst, smashing them into a wall.)
"That's... enough!" (starts pushing the monster with great strength) "I... don't care if you... are the most important meal of the day!" (shoves the monster towards the lava pool) "I made you to bring us together! Not to tear us apart!" Steven shouted
(Dedede helps Steven shove the monster all the way into the lava by charging forward into Steven, burning and destroying it for good. The Gems escape from the monster's previous attacks and gather around Dedede and Steven at the lava pool.)
"I'm sorry, guys. I guess I dreamed too big." Steven said
(The scene changes to the kitchen showing a montage of the Crystal Gems recreating Steven's original breakfast, but twice the size of his)
"It looks great! It's even more together and even more breakfast!" Steven said
(Dedede, Steven and the Gems stare at it with great concern and unwillingness to eat it.)
"I don't think I can eat this." Steven said
"I'm not feeling like pancakes at the moment." Dedede said
"Let's order a pizza." Amethyst said (Dedede, Steven and Pearl agree.)
"It did try to kill us." Garnet said
(The star iris zooms in on Garnet as she speaks, ending the episode.)
