Chapter 10
We arrived at camp with our mouths stuffed with prey. Once we sat them down Oceanpaw decided to go call it a night and go to sleep. I layed down and bit into a nice rabbit. Just then Lunapaw walked over and sat down and got a nice rat. "How was your day?" I said hoping to get maybe some information on what had happened in the woods. "What's it to you?!" she snapped very unlike her. "You're just nosey! All part kitty pets are like that! They also think they know everything! None of your business kittypet! Pester someone else!" She hissed then walked off to Drakenfur. I sat there and sighed deeply. Nothing will be the same I guess, oh great Starclan! Help us! I thought to myself. After I had finished my rabbit I decided to call it a night. I couldn't fix everything but I could do all I could. I started to walk over to the den when Shadowstrom stopped me. "I need to talk to you about Lunapaw. She has been acting weird and mean!" he said worriedly. "I wish I could say something different and help but she has been just as rude to me as ever. Calling me a kitty pet and being mean to Oceanpaw." I said. I was so tired and trying to connect the dots. Everything was confusing. "I'am worried about her," he said. "Me too, all we can do is try and get her back to her old self." "Maybe beating up old Drakenfur would fix something." he said gruffly. " Or kill you. He is twice any of our size! Even bigger than Dawnstar." I said teasingly. Once we said goodnight I crawled into the den. I was so tired and exhausted.I just needed a good night's rest.
I felt the rushing breeze threw my fur. Then Firestar appeared, in front of me. "Follow" his voice called and he started running. I keeped up with his pace quite nicely. Then we stopped. The sky turned gray and I saw the image of Drakenfur leading the rogues. But they looked more familiar than ever. Bone was there, and then I saw…Lunapaw! She was in the front leading them towards Thunderclan!! I turned my head and followed Firestar another direction, near Riverclan. Their entire camp had been wiped out! I saw and smelled the scent of rogues as if they were living there. Bones of prey were used as bed liners and cushions underneath moss. Their fresh kill was highly stocked and they were never going hungry. In leaf bare we all had hard times finding prey! How come they have a lot? I asked myself. Then he led me back to camp and showed me the storage of our fresh kill. It was empty! "Firestar!! Guide me and show me the path I must walk to save the clan!!" I shouted. Then I felt not just Firestar's presence but… Runningfeather? "Sweet, Willowpaw, YOU will save the clan. Light is no match for Darkness." I heard Runningfeathers soft voice rang out. "Be the light" Firestar whispered. Once they faded My fur began to glow like fire!! As if I was on fire! My paws felt the strength of a lion, my heart ready and brave, and my spirit was soaring like an eagle watching its prey. I had so much on my shoulders I needed this strength for a long time. "Starclan! Help me fulfill this prophecy. Show me the way. I said. Then something rumbled like a Million voices. "BEWARE THE TWO THAT SLEEP!!! TIGERS DO NOT REST FOREVER! LION WILL RULE AGAIN!" I didn't know what this meant but I was ready.
When I woke up, I found myself squirming all over the place and meowing like there was no tomorrow. "Willowpaw! Wake up! You sound like somthings dying! Dawnstar is holding a meeting!! There will be warriors!" I didn't notice who said it but I knew the warm bodies in the den were gone and this was the voice of a little cat. Has it really been three moons since my close friends training? Had it really been time for their warrior duties? I stretched and hurried out of the den. Trying to shield my eyes from the rising sun, I noticed Oceanpaw, Ivypaw, and Lunapaw, and Leafpaw sitting up there proudly. "Today we gather in the name of Starclan, at these fine young cats who will be Warriors." The clan murmured in agreement. Dawnstar took her attention to the four siblings standing proud with their pelts gleaming like the sun. " Now I ask that Starclan look down on these four warriors, they have studied hard to learn the ways of the forest and are ready to walk as warriors. Oceanpaw, Ivypaw, Lunapaw, and Leafpaw, do you promise to defend this clan even at the cost of your life?" she sat there staring at them with trust in her eyes. "I do" They all said one after another. The strange thing was Lunapaw mumbled something under her breath right after. As if she was going back on it. "Oceanpaw today you will be known as Oceanheart, May Starclan be with you. Ivypaw, today you will be known as Ivytail, may Starclan be with you. Lunapaw, today you will be known as Lunafang, may Starclan be with you. And Leafpaw, Today you will be known as Leafstorm, May Starclan walk with you." The clan cheered their names just as they did the kittens and then Dawnstar added. "The warriors will now sit in a silent vagile until dawn while the rest of us get a good night's rest tonight"
I still couldn't believe that my best friends, my most trusted friends, were moving out. We were only one moon apart but it would still feel like forever till I got there with them. Before their vagile started tonight I was going to congratulate them and wish them luck in this chilly weather. As I trotted up, Drakenfur jumped in my way. "You sick one nose in our business you will not come back from a hunting trip alive! Stay away from the odd smells and quit questioning Lunafang!" He hissed just low enough to where no one noticed but me. I felt shocked at this remark. Was he doing something? How was Lunafang in on it? Where were the answers!! Then I thought of my dream, "BEWARE THE TWO THAT SLEEP!" Where are the two?
Pushing all that aside I hurried up to Oceanheart, as I nuzzled her side, "Don't worry! I'll visit you once a day. We won't pay that fare." Oceanheart teased. "It still seems fare to me!" I said laughing. "You guys are my best friends! We did everything together." With that remark Oceanheart pulled me aside. "What about the promise? Will this mean I can't be your deputy if you become leader?''she mumbled. "Never! But you might have a better chance of becoming leader before me." I teased. "You'll always be my best friend!" Her face lit up after that. She was always my closest friend and we would go through everything together, even if it meant being deputy or leader. We always had each other's backs. After congratulating Leaftail and Ivytail, I realized that Lunafang wasn't there. She was stalking away with, Drakenfur into the woods. Probably going to catch prey before their vegile tonight. I thought. Hopefully that was all they were doing.
I decided to go hunting a bit with Lightpaw and Flowerpaw. They were shaping up to be fine apprentices. "Hey!" I called over to them. "Do you guys want to come hunting? I can take you two little ways into the forest." They both looked at each other with wide eyes. "Really! Sure! But let's ask our mentors first." I watched them run off over to their mentor then come back ready. We walked out of the camp into the wide open wilderness. "Now remember why we're out here. We are here to hunt, not explore, nor play or train. Be on your guard." I said walking a little way in front. Once we got to a shady clearing near the forest.I stopped and sat down hoping to quiz them and see how much they know just for the fun of it. "Now, where can you find the best mice in the forest?" "Umm, near the roots?"Flowerpaw said. "Very good, now where do you have to be in order to catch them without them picking up your scent?" I said quisling. "Downwind from the wind and behind them." Lightpaw said confidently. "Excellent you two!" I was very impressed with their knowledge. "Now go find as much as you can but only around here. Don't go near any of the patrol paths, they'll think you're messing around." With that they trotted off and started walking and looking around trees. I knew I had to keep my eye on them or I would be in trouble! That's one thing I didn't need.
I started to stalk very slowly around some of the tree limbs that had fallen in the winds this morning.I noticed a big brown fluffy thing sticking out of some grass. Perfect! A nice squirrel will do good for the fresh kill pile. I mumbled. I put all my weight on my back legs and keeped my ears flat and my tail down just enough to where the squirrel couldn't make out anything. With two paw steps forward I leaped onto the squirrel and killed it in one bite. This would be good for storage. I picked up my kill and trotted back into the small clearing watching Lightpaw take on a very big squirrel and Flowerpaw put her second catch on a small pile here and Lightpaw started. "Very good catches, you two. Lets head back to camp before it gets too dark" I said then thought to myself, And before Drakenfur asks about what we're doing out here. We slowly creeped back to the camp navigating our way over the stones and rocks. As the sun started to set and Silverpelt began to rise, I heard some weird noises of cats in the distance. "Get down under the mushroom!" I whispered to the two apprentices. They hurried over to the big mushroom that was good for the cover of scent. "Thunderclan will pay tonight! Accusing both of us for stealing!" I heard a gruff voice of Sootstar say. "Flowerpaw! Run as fast as your little legs can carry you and warn the camp! We are in danger! Lightpaw! Go alert the patrols in the north! They should be tracking back now! Go!" They ran off without question taking the best two possible routes without being seen. Now I had to distract them somehow and carry this kill back to camp. Then my mind jumped to the fallen branches. I can step on one and break one! I tucked the squirrel under my chin and held the three mice by the tails and started to trot back, deliberately looking for something to crunch. *SNAP!* I crunched on something huge! "What was that!?" Sootstar shouted. "Follow it!" I heard running in the wrong direction of camp but at least it keep them occupied. As soon as they started getting closer, I took off and ran all the way for camp. Starclan! Please help Flowerpaw get there with the speed of a cheetah! I thought as I dashed through the forest. After I leaped over a few rocks I was nearing the camp, and saw that Lightpaw was already rushing in with the patrols. Once I rushed into camp I spotted Flowerpaw talking rapidly to Dawnstar about what had happened as the clan was getting ready to fight.I hurried over to Daisypaw and dropped off our catch. "Stay safe sis. Put this up then come straight back here." I said nudging her. "I will, YOU be safe." she said worriedly.
I rushed off to Dawnstar and explained the parts of what I heard them say. "I should have known! Now they've teamed up!"She said harshly. "Cats of Thunderclan! Everyone that can fight, will fight! Windclan and Riverclan have teamed up! And we are no longer allies with Shadowclan! Move the elders to the nursery and cover up the entrances with the thistle bushes." she said then ran down from the highledge. All the kits hurried inside with the elders helping them scuddle in keeping their whining down. As I walked out, Flamefoot and Silvermeadow were walking out along with the apprentices. "Silvermeadow! You can't fight your blind!"I said, trying to persuade her not to. "I will protect my clan at the cost of my life." She said coldly. I knew she didn't remember me, nor Daisypaw, only Flamefoot and the promise she made to defend her clan.
