Rise of the Thunder God

A couple weeks had passed since the pair had started to train on the senju private training grounds. In this time they had mastered almost all the techniques that they were practicing and now as a result spent most of their time practicing their calligraphy and fuinjutsu.

During this period Kushina had told Mito about Minato who had in turn urged the girl to invite him to their lessons on fuinjutsu. Where she would tutor them on barrier ninjutsu, sealing and even help them train their sensory abilities. Mito had even allowed minato to sit in on some of the less dangerous uzumaki sealing lessons as she knew how important forming strong connections would be for the future jinchuriki of the nine tailed demon fox.

Both children took to these lessons like fishes to water which caused mito to teach them more advanced chakra control exercises along with a few iryojutsu techniques which required high levels of chakra control to master.

After a long mission Tsunade made her way back home, border disputes had become more common recently as iwa and kumo were probing to see if they had a chance to destroy the leaf,

She was sent as a field medic to help heal the border patrol. If only the old man had listened to her one med nin per squad idea she wouldn't be in this situation of constant mission to heal injured ninja and she would have more time to spend with her new boyfriend Dan Kaito she smiled at the thought.

As she walked into the compound she heard noises coming from the training ground and she was shocked to see her little cousin and her friend sparring at a speed and intensity that she would expect of seasoned chunin.

Kushina threw a jab at minato who dodged only to be followed by chakra chains piercing towards him at high speed to which he sunshine around the raining field at speed which should have given him tunnel vision so why was he still able to avoid all of kushina's attacks as she wa concentrating she sensed a barrier around the training field it must have been what was allowing him to know his orientation but even then the amount of concentration and processing he would have to do to keep his technique going would be ungodly and her cousin wasn't a slouch either being able to react to and counter the attacks of the little speed freak if only just barely with the help of her chains.

So focused on the little monsters that she didn't notice her grandmother walk up behind her and say "Those two certainly have a lot of talent and potential" which startled tsunade, mito continued " they have been been going at it for hour already i may expect this from kushina with her Uzumaki genes but the boy he is an anomaly if he had red hair i would bet everything that he was an uzumaki with the way he just gets seals"

As they continued to watch Tsunade said "it would seem this is coming to an end, the boy is low on chakra" just as she said that the barrier fell and minato stumbled a bit causing kushina to ensnare him in her chains.

"It would seem i lost this round , that would make it 42 wins 16 ties and 12 loses for me" Minato said

"Uh uh we are not counting it like that when we have these no holds bar fights the record ids more like 19 wins 5 ties and 8 loses in your favor" kushina replied

"Well even with that i am still in the lead" minato stated causing kushina to pout. "So we have found out that you can hold your barrier shunshin for a couple of hours if you use no other jutsu"

"Yeah it would be good for taking out enemies quickly but i still need to train my reserves and make the barrier more efficient i am beat and i need to sleep, i should be headed home"

"That would not be necessary in your current it would be too taxing to walk home ,why don't you stay here for the night"

"That won't be necessary lady i am very thankful but i can get home just fine" as he was saying this tsunade hit him on the head "listen to the old lady pipsqueak you are on the verge of chakra exhaustion , Doctors orders" hearing this minato smile "thank you for the invitation Lady Mito"

"Good" mito said "dinner would be ready in a few hours. Nawaki would be glad to eat with you tsuna" Mito said while walking back into the house.

After that day tsunade became a regular at their sparring sessions giving them pointers in their taijutsu ,nutrition , chakra control and even occasionally sparring with them to teach them how to handle stronger opponents . Her teammates also took an interest in them with jiraiya offering minato a chance to apprentice with him after graduation having just heard the prophecy that he would basically train the chosen one who he believed could be minato due to his raw talent while hailing from no , not to be outdone by her teammate, offered the same deal to her little cousin.

Months went by and the day of the graduation exam was here minato was a lock for rookie of the year while kushina was top kunoichi and second overall. Since jiraiya and tsunade had requested them personally they were not assigned to any teams. The hokage allowed this both due to favoritism and two borderline S-rank shinobi offering to share their skills with the next generation.

A/n

I chose to go with the apprenticeship route as we are not given much about both their teammates in canon and i did not want to create multiple oc's just to kill them off in the second war , that is what dan is for and mabe nawaki depends on how im feeling when i get there.
