The Letter
Cherry was in her downstairs shower, letting the warm water take her away. She looked down at the shower floor and the memory flooded back. The first time she and Drew made love. How he held her close to his body in the aftermath of that life changing event. Now, she and Drew were going to be married TODAY! She smiled and closed her eyes. She was happy. This was all she ever wanted. He was all she ever needed.
She stepped out of the shower and wrapped herself in a towel from the warmer. She looked at her phone and saw she had two texts. The first was from Drew, responding to hers from this morning: "You better be ready for the wedding night! I love you too, soon-to-be Mrs. Galloway!" She hugged the phone close to her, then responded: "I love the sound of that! Let me know when you get to HQ."
But after she responded, she felt a shiver go up her spine. It felt like someone had walked over her grave. She got scared for a moment, but then pushed the thought away. He was the happiest she had ever been in her life! She was going to marry the love of her life! She thought about his proposal and all the love they had made after. She groaned, "Damn it! Why did I leave him?" She was wishing she was still in bed, tangled up with his gorgeous body!
The second text was from Sheamus to the group chat: "Guys, Drew has called an urgent meeting. Something very important. Get to HQ ASAP." She jumped up and down in a circle. She knew what this was about. They were finally going to tell the Angels, Sheamus and Kevin what they already suspected. Drew and Cherry are in love and have been for some time. What they wouldn't be expecting is that as soon as the meeting was over, they were heading to Nashville City Hall and getting their marriage license, then getting married the first place that would take them. This was one meeting Cherry didn't dare be late for!
"Well, this is a first! Yer the first ta arrive, Cherry!", Kevin said as he sat waiting for all to arrive at HQ. Cherry came bounding in to the 8th floor meeting space. She was smiling, almost skipping over to Kevin, "Oh Kev! So good to see you! I trust you had a great holiday week. I know I did!" She tussled his well-kept blonde hair and kissed him on the forehead. He looked at her like she had grown two heads, "What's got inta ya, lass? Geez! Hopefully, our guest of honor will decide to grace us with his presence." Cherry sat down on the couch and said, "I'm sure Drew will be here soon."
She looked at her engagement ring and smiled. The others flooded in, the first being Lady Christina. She went right over to Kevin and exchanged knowing smiles. Kevin cheesed hard, "Good morning, beautiful Lady!" Lady blushed, remembering what they were doing before getting Sheamus' text, said, "Good morning to you." Cherry chimed in, "Looks like someone got laid this morning!" Lady gasped, "Cherry!" She shrugged, "OK, deny it!" Lady narrowed her eyes, then smiled.
Sheamus and Phoenix arrived as a courier came with a letter for Kevin. Kevin and Lady excused themselves to analyze and read the letter. Christine went over to Cherry, who couldn't stop smiling, and said, "Well, you look all happy and well fucked! This week of "rest" did a lot of good for you." Cherry glided her eyes left to right and grinned, "It was a great week, Chris!"
Christine was perplexed and amused, "You know why McInfart called this meeting. Don't you?" She giggled, "I don't know. Do I?" Christine looked at her best friend. She had known her a long time. Cherry had essentially saved her life were her world literally fell apart. She had never seen Cherry look so happy. She said, "Cher, if this is what I think it is, and I hope it's exactly that, I'm happy for you, Sis." Cherry smiled, trying to mask her emotions.
Kevin and Lady sat in his office in disbelief. They couldn't believe what was delivered. Lady paced around behind Kevin, who was sitting in his chair. She said, "Oh, Kevin! I can't believe this! It can't be happening!" Kevin shook his head, "Lass, this is bad! I knew we were dealing with something bad when these things started happening ta Drew. But now I know what we're dealing with, it makes it an even more dangerous situation." Lady put her hand in Kevin's shoulders, "We need to tell them now!" Kevin sighed, "This is going to be a tough one, Lass."
Sheamus was talking to Cherry, "So, any clue why the big Muppet called this meeting?" She smiled, unable to contain her joy, "Maybe! But you'll have to wait and see when he gets here. Honestly, I'm surprised he isn't here yet." Sheamus shrugged, "It's Drew. Being late is his thing. Don't be too surprised if he's late to your wedding." He winked at her. She slapped him on the arm, "Shhh!"
Kevin came back in the room, looking worried with no trace of his usually mirth and jovial expression. Lady also had a distant look, with her hand over her mouth. Christine said, "OK, can we get this party started all ready? Where's McIntyre?" Sheamus said, "Yeah. I just tried to text him and he's not answering." Cherry looked at her phone and saw that Drew had not read her last text.
Kevin cleared his throat, "Uh, Drew's not coming." Cherry rose to her feet, "OK, funny joke. Drew, come on out here!" Kevin shook his head, "No, Lass. He isn't here. He won't be here." Cherry looked at him, "OK, what's going on? Kevin?" Lady grabbed her hand, "Oh, Cher. I'm so…" Cherry waved her off and said, "What the hell is going on, Kevin?" Sheamus, now getting worried himself, "Kevin, where is Drew?"
Kevin, barely able to look up, "Um, we got this package just now. It contained a letter." Christine said, "And? What did it say?" Cherry screamed in panic, "Kevin, just tell us, damn it!" Kevin read the letter: "Dear you Angel bitches and especially that fucking whore Cherry, Drew is with me. Drew is mine and always will be. If you attempt to rescue him, I will kill him while you watch, and then you. If I can't have him, no one can. Good luck trying to find him, you idiots! PS: If you're nice, I'll send you invites to our wedding! Fuck you all, Taryn".
Cherry started trembling in anger and fear. Christine had a very strong physical reaction to this as she protested, "Oh, give me a break! Drew would never even consider marrying that dumb cunt ever again!" Sheamus said, "And how do we know she not lying through her teeth?" Kevin held up the envelope, "Because this came with it." Kevin removed the contents: it was a cut off lock of ebony black hair. Cherry walked over to Kevin, tears welling in her eyes, "Is… Is that..?"
He nodded, "It's Drew's hair. We confirmed it." She let out an audible exhale, "Oh god!" She took the hair from Kevin and held it in her fingers. She would know the feel of that hair anywhere. She had run her fingers through it, pulled and tugged on it in ecstasy, felt it on every part of her body where Drew has placed his incredible kisses, brushed it away from his forehead.
Cherry's world had just crashed down around her. Her worst fears came true. The bitch had not gone away after they discovered the bugs. She sat down on the couch and put her face in her hands. She kept blaming herself, "Had I stayed with him, I could've stopped them! How could I have been so stupid?" She was in shock. Drew was gone. There would be no wedding today. Her heart sank and broke into a million pieces.
As Kevin feverishly discussed what happened, Cherry still stared at the ring Drew gave her. Christine asked, "Has anyone gotten to Drew's place yet?" Cherry looked at her in her haze of sadness and worry and asked, "Why would we do that?" Lady said, "We gotta see if something is out of sorts. Drew does live alone." This was not the time to tell them that she had spent the night there last night, and many nights before that.
Christine stood up. "Sheamy and I will go. His bestie here should be able to determine what may look out of place." Cherry, acting nervous and worried, said, "Ok, uh...I'll go too." As they left, Sheamus pulled Cherry over to the side, "Did ya noticed anything out of sorts with the house last night?" She shook her head, "No. We had a fight, we made up. We…" She stopped short of telling him about the engagement, "We had a lot of sex. I left this morning and nothing was out of place. How could I let this happen?" Sheamus shook his head, "Ya didn't do anything wrong! Taryn is a fucking psycho. Lass, we'll get him back."
As they drove to Drew's house, Christine noticed that Cherry was very quiet. So was Sheamus. As they pulled into Drew's driveway, Cherry started to get anxious. Christine looked back at her and saw she was trembling and asked, "Hey. Hey! Sis, are you ok?" Cherry nodded, "Yeah. Yeah, I'm...just, I'm scared for Drew." Christine rolled her eyes, "Yeah well, the dork gets himself into these things. "
Christine knew Drew's house enough to know he kept it pretty neat. As she walked into the living room, she noticed the coffee mug on the floor with a purple stain on the floor. She knelt by it, "Sheamy?" Cherry excused herself, "I'm going to check the bedroom." Sheamus looked at the broken mug, then at the messy cushions, "Look at this carpet. Looks like someone was dragged!"
Cherry walked back and forth in the bedroom, looking at the empty bed. The bed she had left him sleeping in this morning. She went around to his side and touched the sheets. She could still smell him on the pillowcase. The faint smell of their sex still lingered on the sheets. The empty bed where they had made love for the last year. She looked on his nightstand and picked up the white bandana. Then, she looked at the ring on her left hand, her angel engagement ring. She screamed, letting out a grief-stricken wail, "Goddamn it!"
Christine ran into the bedroom when she heard the scream. She saw Cherry completely come unglued. She tried to calm her down, "Cherry! Hey, Sis! What's going on?" Cherry was mumbling incoherently, but she managed to pick up a few things she said, "It...it's her. She...damn it. I should have had Sheamus put that thingy in like you and Christina have! I let my feelings blind me! I allowed that bitch to take him..." Christine never saw her fellow Angel in such bad shape. Cherry panicked, breathing hard and pointing to the bed where her and Drew had been in together just a few hours before.
Christine said, "Ok. What's up? Breathe!" Cherry sat next to Christine, but rocked back and forth, "Drew. After the RKO assignment...oh girl!" Christine said, sliding her hand to Cherry's, "Yeah, I figured as much." Cherry cried, "Chris, I can't..." She squeezed her hand, "You don't have to tell me anything. I get it. Look, I have my own beef with Taryn. You know that." When Cherry let out another sob, Christine hugged her close, "Hey. We'll find out where he is. Come on, let's help Sheamy. Maybe he's figured out what that purple stuff is."
When they came back into the living room, Sheamus looked very concerned, "This isn't good, ladies. This liquid, it's a type of knockout drug." Cherry looked at Sheamus, "She's been the one who's been behind all of this. Isn't she?" Sheamus sighed, "She's definitely a big piece of it. But she's not smart enough ta pull all of this off on her own. We need ta get back ta HQ ta see if Kevin and his contact have any news. But I have a feeling this goes way deeper that just Taryn being jealous of ya and Drew."
