The Call

Drew

Drew was still in his dreamlike state of mind. He was with his beloved Cherry. He felt her arms around his neck, finding that spot that always bothered him and she rubbed it. He could still taste the flavor of her lip gloss on his lips after they kissed and touched. It felt so good, so right. She belonged him his arms. He belonged inside her. They belonged together. In love forever.

Suddenly, the beautiful feeling was fading. Cherry was ripped away from his grasp. There was a detached, harsh real feel of frigidness. It was cold metal on his bare back. Drew opened his eyes, wondering why his arms or legs couldn't move. He found he was tied to a big metal chair. He growled, pulling at his wrists which were behind him, "The fuck? What is this? Cherry!"

Drew knew this was serious. No one would play a joke on him like this. Then, he heard music. But it wasn't the sexy strains of his and Cherry's song. He groaned when he heard that stupid, sappy love song. The song that was played at his wedding in Vegas. His wedding to HER! Drew struggled to free himself. He wanted nothing to do with this and damn sure, nothing to do with her.

Taryn skipped into the room now, smiling and dancing around him. Drew shook his head and groaned loudly, "I should have figured it was you that was behind all this bullshit!" She flipped her over bleached hair around, twirling the obviously fake extensions, "Aw, Drewy, baby!" Drew got irritated very quickly, "Don't call me that! You lost the right to call me anything when you fucked around on me and tried to ruin my life! Go away, Taryn!"

She sneered, "Why are you with that redheaded slut? She's no Taryn Terrell, that's for DAMN sure!" Drew screamed, "None of yer fuckin' business! But that's one of the million reasons I'm with her. And since yer pea brain would never understand them, I'm done talking to ya about her. And if I were ya, and God's I don't wish to be, you'd let me go."

She cackled in that nasty, ear splitting voice, "Oh, you think I'm scared of those girls? What do they call themselves? The Angels? That's so precious. Being your Mommy's name was Angela?" Drew's voice became more emotional, "And she never cared one bit fer ya! I shoulda listened ta her. But I didn't." Taryn walked behind him, whispering in his left ear, "Aw, did I hit a nerve?"

Drew sighed, "All I needed was my wife ta be there. Ya knew I was weak and self destructive." He shouted now, "I lost the job I loved, the only thing I wanted ta do since I was a child. I lost friends. I almost lost my life!" She laughed, "You think I married you cause I loved you? No, Drewy. I loved the fame. The money." Drew glared at her, "I know ya used me. Everyone told me. Sheamo, Wade, Heath, Jinder. They all had a bad feeling and tried ta warn me about ya."

She shrieked, "Oh, you and your stupid friends! That dumb Irishman. Heath, well, he's a stupid fucking hillbilly. Jinder…whatever. Wade? Wade is probably the dumbest of them all." Drew had enough, "Stop it! Ya never knew the meaning of friends. Cause ya used everyone." Taryn was unconcerned and delusional, "Look, Drewy, I have to get my hair done for our wedding… He cut her off, "I'm not marrying ya again, ya dumb bitch!" But she continued, "Before I go, it's time to have some fun with your little tramp and her Angel friends. But in the meantime, umm...I'm gonna leave you with my henchmen. Oh BOYS!"

Drew rolled his eyes and groaned at the two men walking in laughing like hyenas, "Aw, bloody hell! Ya two idiots again?! Didn't Cherry and I kick yer ass bad enough last time?" Madcap Moss, the shorter man dressed in red shorts, no shirt and suspenders said, "Hey, hey Corbin! What do you call a guy all tied up like Drew is?" Corbin, who was dressed just as terrible, in a weird pattered shirt and matching shorts, laughed, "Lay it on me, Madcap!" Drew mumbled, "God's, I don't care ta hear this!" Madcap laughed, "The Tied Up Psychopath!" Drew blinked at their foolishness, "My jokes are better than this shit and, trust me they stink! And what the fuck is the deal with shorts with suspenders?"

Drew then smelled something foul, "The hell is that stench?" Corbin got angry, "Ok, enough out of you, McIntyre!" Corbin hit him in the chest, hard. Hard enough to cause Drew to cough a bit of blood up and asked, "Forgot I'm a former golden gloves boxer? And that smell you asked about is Spaghetti-Os! I like them! Oh and, too bad your little girlfriend isn't here because I'd beat the shit out of her too!" Drew snarked, "Yeah, because that worked out so well fer ya two morons last time! And if ya touch her, I'll kill ya, Corbin!" Corbin punched Drew in the face and laughed, "Like you could do anything about that now, Bravefart!" Madcap cackled, "Bravefart! That's classic!"

Back at HQ

The Angels, Kevin and Sheamus were making a plan to rescue Drew. Sheamus was at his wits end trying to pinpoint the location of Drew's cell phone. He banged his fist on the table, "Goddamn it! She must've put some block on it. The signal keeps jumping around." Lady asked, "What does that mean?" Christine told her, "It means that unless Drew contacts us on his phone, we can't find his exact location. Fuck!" Kevin tried to be the voice of reason, "OK let's calm down. There has to be another way ta locate him. I got my sources on the lookout. Maybe something will come of that. Cherry, do ya have any ideas?"

They all looked to her, but she was in her own world of hurt and grief. She was numb, but so very angry. She was ready to rip Taryn's head off. But more than anything in the world. She wanted Drew back with her. Christine approached her and put her hand on hers, "Hey. Have any of your contacts at the NMPD gotten back to you? Detective McKenzie? Anyone?" Cherry looked up and absentmindedly shook her head mumbling, "No. Nothing yet."

Trying to be supportive, Sheamus said, "We'll get him back, lass. We'll figure it out. Believe me, Taryn isn't that bright." This set Cherry off, "Well, she was bright enough to get into all our homes and bug us so she could watch our every move! That fucking bitch… Every time we were together… everything we did… every time we… she was there! She violated our privacy because she couldn't stand the idea of Drew being happy! I'm going to kill that goddamn whore if it's the last thing I do!" Christine, never seeing her closest friend this upset, tried to talk her down, "Hey! You're not the only one she's hurt here. We all owe her an ass kicking."

Cherry lost it, "You have no idea, Chris! She took him! He was supposed to be here with me! Sheamus, I know he's been your best friend for almost twenty years. And Christine, I know you and Drew have the weird Gemini twin brother sister thing. But he's the man I'm supposed to live the rest of my life with! We… We were supposed to get married today! Alright?! We were going to get a marriage license after we told you guys. But she overheard all of our plans last night! That's why she struck when she did because I allowed my emotions to cloud my judgment for my assignment! I would've done a clean sweep of his house had my goddamn head not been in the clouds! And now, he's gone! So please! Spare me the lecture of who wants to beat her up more! He's not here because of me! Fuck!"

Cherry turned and went out on the porch in a huff of tears. Lady shook her head, "This is terrible!" Is the entire operation about to fall apart?" Christine raised her hands, "Hell no! This is the only family I got and I will not allow that cheap price tag slut to tear it apart. Let me go try to talk her down." Sheamus went back to his computer, trying everything he could to find Drew while Lady and Kevin tried to plan, even though with no idea where Drew might be, it would be hard to strategize.

Christine walked out on the porch to find Cherry sitting in the spot where she and Drew had shared their first passionate kiss. She was trying to get her head in the game, but to no avail. Christine approached her, and said, "Just listen to me. You are not alone on this. We are going to get him back, Cher. We're a team, right?" Cherry said, "Yes, we are, but he's my love. Chris, this is all my fault!"

Christine said, "No, it's not, Cher! Taryn is a fucking evil bitch and always has been. None of this was your fault. You fell in love with your soulmate. That is not a weakness or a liability. Love is the real power. Believe me I know because I have had it and watched it literally blow up in my face. And that was also Taryn's doing!" Cherry looked at her, "What are you talking about?" When she saw Christine start to cry, she knew something was up. Phoenix never cried, even at sad movies. Cherry asked, "Wait, you don't mean Taryn did…that to you?"

Christine was even more guarded about her past than Cherry. Her parents dying in a hospital shooting massacre was bad enough, but the ultimate betrayal by the man that she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with almost killed her. She wiped her eyes, "Yes, four years ago, the night you saved my life. My then-husband, Adam, tried to kill me. Tried to burn me alive inside that house. The woman that he was screwing around with… I'll never forget hearing him and that bitch's nauseating laugh."

Cherry gasped, "Holy fuck! Taryn? She's the one who tried to kill you too? Jesus, Chris! You never told me." Christine said, "That's why I was telling you the WE owe her. You need to let us help you. You showed me how to live and Sheamus showed me how to love. We can get Drew back to you if we all stick together." Cherry, remembering looking at the broken girl in the hospital bed that she gave blood to save after the fire only to watch her rise up from the ashes like a… "Phoenix. That night. The fire. That's why you call yourself Phoenix."

Christine shrugged, "Well, I've always been into metaphors." Cherry let out a little laugh, then hugged her best friend tight. She asked, "Why didn't you tell me it was Taryn that your ex was messing with?" Christine said, "I figured it didn't matter anymore. I had moved on and his sorry ass died a couple of years ago. You guys are my family now. But now knowing she's out there trying to screw with all of us again, I can't let that go any more than you can. We're in this together."

Kevin ran out the door to the porch, "Cherry, ya better come inside! Yer phone is ringing. The video call says it's from Drew!" Cherry ran as fast her feet could take her. Maybe he was able to escape and didn't know where he was. She only wanted to hear his voice to know he was OK. She answered the Call button, "Drew, baby! Are you O…" She trailed off because she didn't see her fiancé's handsome face. It was the vile, nasty bitch herself calling from Drew's phone. Cherry eyed Sheamus, who mouthed for her to keep talking as long as she could to attempt tracking Drew's location.

Taryn's snarling, cold, grating voice shrieked, "Well, well! SO! This is my so-called competition, HUH?! You don't look like much to me, you BITCH!" Cherry, seething with anger, tried to be as calm as possible, "Funny, but you look like a haggard ring rat slut. Pretty much how you've been described to me." Taryn said, "Oh! You think you're witty, huh?" Cherry said flatly, "Only compared to some. Where is Drew?"

Taryn laughed and twirled her hair, "Oh, me and my Drewy baby are getting acquainted all over again. He's so happy to see his Taryn again!" In the background, she could hear Drew screaming, "Shut up, you fucking crazy ass bitch! Cherry, Love, don't listen ta her!" Then, Taryn turned the camera just in time for Cherry to see Happy Corbin punch Drew in the gut while Madcap jumped up and down laughing. Cherry had to fight back tears and she screamed, "You fucking assholes! Stop hurting him!"

Taryn got really nasty, "Oh! Did I hit a nerve with you? I sure as hell HOPE SO! You're the same slut I've been watching screw my husband!" Cherry's temper finally snapped, "You stupid, delusional cunt! You've been divorced for ten years! Get a clue! He doesn't want you!" Taryn shrugged, "Eh, he will! I'll make sure I break him, just like I did BEFORE! Now, this call is to make myself clear. I know all of those Angel assholes are listening, including that ginger prick best friend of his. None of you are to come after him. If you do, I will slit his throat and let you watch while he bleeds OUT! OK? Bye BYE!"

Cherry screamed, "Goddamn it!" She tried to call Drew's number back but got no answer. Sheamus hollered, "I got it! Ya kept her on long enough! His ping is on the river in this old abandoned factory." He pulled up the aerial map. Cherry studied it and realized, "I know where this is. It's close to the explosion that happened a couple of years ago." Kevin said, "OK! Now we know who and what they're dealing with, time ta make a plan! Lady, what do ya think?

Cherry stood back and listened to the plan, but she had no intention of following it. She looked at those she loved and knew their intentions were good, but their plan could get Drew killed. She thought about seeing Drew sitting there helpless to those assholes, especially his wretched, nasty ex. Her anger grew as she thought about how her and Drew's most intimate moments were violated by Taryn's spying eyes. Then, she looked at Christine. Her ex and Taryn had been responsible for her near-death experience. Christine said it was their fight, but she was wrong. Cherry knew wat she had to do. She just hoped that they would forgive her for doing it.

Christina finished her strategy and asked, "OK, do we have any questions? It going to be tricky given how old the building is, but I think we can pull it off." Sheamus said, "No, it's a solid plan. I think it's best if Kevin and I are on the ground for this one instead of at HQ. Looks like no tech issues that can't be handles onsite." Christine nodded, "No, it's sound. We get in, beat the shit out of that bitch and take her nasty ass to jail. Then, get Cherry and Drew to the altar. Sound good, Cher?"

But there was no answer. They turned their heads to find her gone. Kevin asked, "OK where's Cherry?" Christine looked at Lady and groaned, "Oh fuck!" She ran to the window just in time to get a glimpse of Cherry red Jeep speeding out of the parking lot. Christine screamed, "Damn it! No! She can't do this alone!"

Cherry raced to the scene where Taryn and her idiots were holding Drew. She could not let her friends get hurt by that bitch anymore. She was done playing the good girl. She knew she had to sink down to Taryn's level to keep Drew and her Angels family safe. No matter what Christine said, this was her fight and hers alone. She sneered as she said to herself, "You want a war, bitch? You're about to get one! Game on, ho!"
