Angels In Scotland: Part 10 - The Aftermath
The Fight...Through the eyes of the Phoenix...
The fighting was getting very ugly now. Emotions were raw and tensions were ready to snap like an electrified wire. Christine was straddling that evil witch Taryn, landing lefts and rights as she screamed all her rage and fury at the tacky blonde. One punch was for her past, one was for how they ruined her life. Now she took Taryn's bloody head and bashed it hard into the cold unyielding Scottish ground. She screamed at her foe, "You hurt Cherry, you goddamn cunt!"
Now Christine felt a different presence. One that she had created after the pain and trauma of her rape and near death. After Cherry saved her live, she became Phoenix. Reborn of holy fire and baptized by a pure angel, she was given a second chance. An avenging angel, so to speak. Her voice was laced with ferocity and fire. The Phoenix was cashing in all of those receipts. She cashed in for when Taryn called Sheamus names. She punched and scratched Taryn's face when she spoke bad of Drew. She elbowed her beaten face when she hit Cherry, Cherry…
Taryn barely moved, only whining and whimpering as Christine punched. As she finally got up, satisfied she had her pound of flesh, Christine slowly came back down to Earth, glancing at her family surrounding Cherry. She mumbled, "Sis. God, please...protect her. Protect those babies." She only looked at her closed fist, praying to herself, "Please don't let anything happen to them. Take me instead. My brother needs Cherry and those babies more than...more than I'm needed here."
As she prayed in her daze of hurt and anger, Drew's actions got her attention. Drew had gotten the upper hand on that asshole Phil, raising his sword in anger. She had heard that monster say that he would rip the babies Cherry held inside her from her womb. Even though his back was in immense pain and his body wore the bruises and cuts of a horrific fight, Drew had enough. She could feel his pain.
She felt it as the agony faded into an unadulterated rage. An intense fury he had never felt before. The next thing Christine knew, Drew stood silently, his family's claymore in his right hand, looking down with malice at the beheaded body of Phil Rumsfeld. His white bloated head was a few feet away, a trail of blood around it.
Now she turned to Sheamus. They shared more than a job. They had more in common than a greater good. Christine made Sheamus better as he made her learn to love again. Sheamus was silent as he now looked down at the ground. The gravely disfigured face of Adam Ridge was covered in blood. Occasionally, his prone body twitched.
Sheamus spoke Gaelic words, curses older than his family's bloodline. Words that hurt as bad as the mightiest of blows. What Christine didn't know or understand was those words were painful. His anger raged at the lifeless corpse at his feet. Sheamus fought with all his rancorous emotion when he heard Adam brag about the rape.
The group had taken Cherry from the cold ground to rush her to the hospital. Suddenly, Jester pulled his van up in the alley. Stu and Jester pulled Drew and Sheamus into it. Christine reached her hand to Sheamus, barely hearing him say that he had to tell her something. He only mouthed to her he loved her. She stood in the lot. Even though there was action, and people around, she never felt more alone in her life.
On The Road To University Hospital - Ayr Scotland
Andy drove as fast as he could towards University Hospital. Glancing in his rear-view mirror, his heat dropped. Lady Christina fretted as she held Cherry's head on her lap. She stroked her hair and held her hand, "Cherry! Sweetie! Please wake up!" To Andy's left said in the front seat, Randy Orton shifted constantly in his seat. He looked at his phone, seeing Denise's message.
He looked back at Lady, "Denise is not far behind us with Kevin and Christine. Kevin will make sure Cherry is settled before going to the police to plead Drew and Sheamus' case. They arrested Taryn and are processing the scene. How is she doing?" Lady let a tear drop down her face, "She's not responding to me. She has to be OK!" Randy reached his hand back and gently rubbed Cherry's limp arm, "She's tough. Believe I know. She nailed me in the balls harder than any opponent I've ever had."
Andy struggled with his emotions as he spoke, "This was supposed ta be a night of celebration fer our family. My son, my boy. He's sapposed ta be getting married in a few days and has those precious wee ones on tha way. Now…I just hope yer bloke can help him. Drew needs ta be there fer her. My grandchildren…" Lady sobbed as she spoke, "If anyone can do help Drew, it's Kevin. Andy, we have to stay positive. Cherry and Drew both need that from us right now."
Andy pulled up to the emergency room entrance. Randy quickly exited the car and screamed, "Hey! We have a lady with a head injury! She needs help!" As Andy got out from the other side and a nurse rushed out to help, members of the paparazzi stepped out from the side of the building and descended on the scene. Their bulbs started flashing as they pulled Cherry out of the car and placed her on a gurney, with Lady walking into the building with her trying to shield her from their prying eyes. The shouting of the hounds was almost too much for Andy to take: "Wait, that's Drew McIntyre's fiancé!" "What happened?" Why isn't Drew by her side?" "Wait, is that Randy Orton? Randy, can you tell us what happened?"
Andy shouted angrily, "Yer a bunch of fucking parasites! Ya already ruined a special night fer our family! Get yer asses out of here!" Randy menacingly added, "If you fuck sticks don't leave this family alone, I will make you. Step the hell off!" Kevin rushed up at that moment, with Denise and a still stunned Christine in tow. Kevin took charge, "Guys, I'll handle any questions going forward. Make it quick because I have somewhere to be." With that, Randy escorted all in, taking Denise by the hand.
Nigel, Kevin's friend and confidante, quickly took him to the side, "Mate, I'm not printing anything yet, but what the fuck am I hearing about a beheading and a beating death?" Kevin raised his hands, "I can't say a word until I talk ta tha police. I have ta check on Cherry first. This is not good!" Nigel nudged him, "Look, see that wanker over there? Black hair and looking shifty? None of us have ever seen him before. When you shooed us from the restaurant, he got on his phone. Couldn't make out everything he said, but I heard him tell some guy named Phil that they're here and he owed him. Any idea what he was babbling about?"
Kevin looked pissed at the bastard he now knew as the bastard that tipped off their location to the now headless fuckwad. He decided to keep his composure as he threw a bone to the press, "There was an incident with several injuries tonight. We are cooperating the authorities. That is all I can legally say." He looked out and saw the guy Nigel had pointed out trying to call someone on his phone.
The normally cool demeanor and good-natured Kevin felt a wrath build up inside him. He stepped forward towards the jackass, "Hey! You! Who are ya calling? What newspaper are ya from?" The guy looked around, "Um…calling my boss. Tampa Bay Times." Kevin got up in his face, "Really? Why are you here in Scotland?" The guy shrugged, "My job." Kevin gritted his teeth, "No, I know why yer here and who yer trying ta call. Good luck getting that headless prick ta answer ya!"
The guy sneered, "Oh yeah? Well, we'll see about that! Phil has connections... Wait, what did you say?" Without another word, Kevin slammed his fist into the dork's nose. He fell back and held his gushing nose. Kevin picked up the man's phone and said, "Sorry but that evil son of a bitch can't come to the phone right now. He's dead." Kevin smashed the phone into the concrete and walked off, leaving the rest of the paparazzi in stunned silence and stepping on the phone fragments in his path to the automatic doors.
On The Road To Jester's House - Ayr, Scotland
Jester tried to drive calmly through the streets as he looked forward, hoping to not draw any unwanted attention. Everything was such a blur in his mind. He had fun kicking the asses of those two goofs with Stu and Orton. But when he walked up on the horror movie scene for Drew and Sheamus, things stopped being funny. His best mate was in a lot of trouble. But like always, he vowed to protect him.
He spoke to the group in the van with a nervous rasp in his voice, "Mates, per Kevin, we cannot text or call anyone in the group til we hear from him. I'm taking ya ta my place fer now. Ya two have ta stay out of sight til he can get ya two outta this. Everybody got that?" Stu, sitting on the left passenger seat, nodded, "Got it." In the back of the van he was driving, saying nothing, sat his two friends, Drew and Sheamus.
Both men had just killed two other men. But not just for fun or sport or no reason. The two idiots decided to go after Cherry and Christine as well as everyone in their dinner party. Drew sat there shirtless with his head hung. The blood of her adversary was splattered on his muscular torso after he beheaded him with his family's antique claymore. He had a million thoughts through his head. None of them were good. Drew's voice quivered, "Cherry. My babies. I need to be there." Stu sighed, "I know, mate. Your dad will come to Jester's house once the doctor gives her a look over. She's gonna be fine."
Drew covered his face with his dried blood covered hands. What started out as a good idea and fun trip now was now very bad. He only wanted to give his mom's family crest back to his dad and marry the love of his life. But now, his pregnant fiancé, Cherry, had been knocked out by his ex-wife. Cherry's ex, Phil, taunted Drew and claimed he would hurt her and kill their unborn twins.
Now his nasty, villainous head was permanently removed from his body. Drew would do it all over again a thousand times if it meant keeping his Love safe. Drew glanced over at Sheamus, who was silent. A mix of anger and sadness on his face. He looked down at his bloody hands, clasping the small box containing the ring he wanted to give his beloved Christine.
University Hospital - Ayr, Scotland
Andy, Lady Christina and Randy sat in the waiting room after being joined by Kevin, Denise and Christine. Lady walked over to Christine and pulled her into a big hug. Tears flowed from Christine's face. Lady whispered, "I'm not going to ask how you're doing. I know." Christine came up wiping her eyes, "This is my fault, Lady. All of this. I'm the one that had to go after the crest. It was my suggestion that we all come to Scotland. All of those awful things I said to Cherry. I hurt her so bad and probably damaged her and Drew's love. I didn't mean a word of it!"
Lady cupped her face, "You listen to me. This is not your fault. You never asked for those evil bastards to attack us. Stop blaming yourself." Christine said, as Kevin came over to join them, holding Lady close, "If she loses those babies, I'll never forgive myself." Kevin soothed her and put his arm around her, "Don't even think it. Those babies have the toughest parents in tha world. Listen, I have ta go to the police station. We cannot text or call the others until I smooth things over. Jack has Drew and Sheamus with Stu."
Randy sat down on the couch with Denise, sighing as he looked at phone. A text from Vince McMahon: "What the hell is going on with you and Drew? I need my plane back, damn it!" Randy silenced his phone. He wasn't in the mood for Vince's shit. He looked at Andy standing quietly alone. His heart went out to the man. He obviously loved his son very much. He looked over at Denise, who was in tears, concerned over her close friend. He took her hand and lifted it to his lips.
Denise saw Lady head to the bathroom and could tell she was upset. She followed her to make sure she wasn't experiencing morning sickness. Lady sobbed with her hands on the sink. It crushed her to pieces and for the first time, she was scared to death. She was afraid the bond they all shared together was coming to an end. She kept playing back the fight between Cherry and Christine in her mind:
"Spare me the concerned sister shit! It's always been about you! You and Drew have that special bond that was so strong you decided to hurt me talking about our Vegas trip to him! Was this your plan to ruin our trip to Scotland and our wedding?! Deep down, you were trying to steal my man!" Cherry yelled at Christine.
"You really want to go there! Let me tell you a story, the one story I have promised never to tell!" Christine yelled back. "Do you remember the bar fight and when Drew almost got carjacked? Well, let me tell you this, Drew KISSED me. All those times you told us about his lips and amazing kisses. That's right, I was nodding because I have tasted those lips! I had his strong muscular arms around me! And you know what, he wanted to fuck me that night in front of my fireplace! I could've done it, but I decided not to! I survived a fucking fire!"
Kevin suddenly noticed Lady wasn't next to him and he started panicking. Before he could even look for her, Drew started calling him. "Drew, ya know yer not supposed ta call til I can get you and Sheamus out of this." Kevin answered the phone. "Any news on Cherry?", Drews voice sounded small and worried as he asked. Kevin sighed, knowing how he would feel in Drew's place, "So far, they took her in, but we have to wait until we can see her." "Goddamn it! I need to know how my Love and our babies are doing! I cannot wait!"
Drew yelled desperately. "We know Drew, but I can promise that I know how tough Cherry is. She will pull through with your babies. Have the faith!", Kevin told him. Drew took a deep breath. "Please have my dad try to keep me posted! I need to see her!", Drew replied. "We will." Kevin told Drew and hung up. "Where's my Lady?", Kevin asked Randy. "Denise went to the bathroom down the hall to talk to her. Go get your Lady.", Randy told him. "Will do, stay here.", Kevin replied and went down the hall.
Denise went inside the bathroom and saw Lady Christina crying because of everything that went down tonight. "Christina, please don't cry. Kevin is looking for you. This is no good for you and the baby. Cherry needs you right now!", Denise said, while hugging her. "Denise, it hurts so bad! Seeing how they were hurting each other with their words almost costed their lives!", Christina replied, crying.
"Girl, you know deep down they didn't mean to hurt each other. It was intense, no doubt, but sisters fight and make up. Christine realized it and knew that the bond you girls have is way stronger than ever after what happened tonight. Now, wipe those tears, clean your face, and go be with your man. Cherry needs us more than ever.", Denise told her.
"I want to thank you, Randy, and Stu for coming here to warn us about those no good for nothing motherfuckers and that cock sucking trash bag whore for trying to ruin everything,", Christina replied. "You don't have to thank us; we got your back always. And I am hoping Drew finds a way to trust Randy after tonight." Denise said. "Knowing Drew, I think he will, but his focus is getting to be with his love." Christina replied. "Absolutely! I love you girls so much!", Denise told her. "We love you too, very much! Christina replied. Denise and Lady hugged each other tightly.
Christina got up to the sink and washed her face. After she was done, she heard a knock on the door. It was Kevin. Christina opened the bathroom door and Kevin hugged her tightly. Denise let them be and went to the front desk with Randy and Andy. "My lady, why have you been crying?", Kevin asked her, worried. "Kev, the fight between Cherry and Christine really got to me. It was so hard listening to everything they said to each other, and it almost costed Cherry and Christine their lives.", Christina told him.
"My love, believe me, it was very hard to hear them hurt each other the way they did, but Phoenix defended and protected her. Your bond will be growing more stronger after what happened tonight." Kevin said. "Kevin, I love you so much.", Christina replied. "I love you much more, my lady. Please don't scare me like that again. We all need you. I need you. Our baby needs you.", Kevin said and kissed her like his life depended on it.
Kevin broke the kiss and spoke, "My lady, I need you to stay here with Randy, Denise, and Andy until everyone else gets here. I got to go to the police station to give a statement about what happened tonight, making sure Drew and Sheamus do not go to jail." "Once again, cleaning up their mess." Christina said, jokingly. "Somebody's got to do it. Keep me posted on Cherry's progress until I get back." Kevin said. "I will, be careful. I love you.", Christina told him. "I love you more, my lady, and our beautiful angel." Kevin replied kissing and hugging her.
As Lady and Kevin rejoined the group, the doctor came out of the double doors. Lady rushed over with the rest of the group. Kevin said, "Doctor, how is Cherry?" The young, handsome doctor said, "She is stable, but she has not regained consciousness yet. Her scans don't show any significant damage to her skull or brain, but we won't know the full extent until she wakes up."
Denise asked, "Is there a timeframe for her to wake up?" The doctor shook his head, "It could be a couple of minutes, hours or days. No damage is good sign it could be sooner versus later." Christine took Andy's hand as she said, "How are the babies?" The doctor said, "Well we would have to do an internal ultrasound for a visual or to hear heartbeats, but she's not that far along and we would have to have her or her husband's permission for that anyway. But the great news is there has been no bleeding or hemorrhaging so it's safe to say they are fine."
There was an audible gasp of relief by everyone in the group. The doctor told them, "Let us get her in a private room and you can see her. Maybe hearing a familiar voice will bring her around. We will let you know as soon as she set." Kevin sighed, "OK now the hard part. Let's just hope tha police will listen." He kissed Lady and bid everyone goodbye, patting a sobbing Christine on the shoulder on his way out.
Jester's House - Ayr, Scotland
Jester stopped at the house outside of town. He said, "Come on, get inside, both of ya!" The three men went inside, Drew retreating to a dining room and Sheamus going outside the backyard. Jester looked down at his phone now, reading the text from Christine: "I know we're not supposed to communicate but I can't let Drew wonder. We're at hospital. Cherry is not awake yet, but she's safe. Babies are safe." A relieved Jester texted back: "Got the lads here, hiding at my place. Let me know when the coast is clear."
Sheamus only exhaled as he sat outside in the darkness. He closed his eyes, images of the past three years in his mind. That first time Christine came in the door at HQ. How she smiled at him. How different she was. How she made him speechless. He smiled sadly when the memory of them on their first assignment, the cruise, came up. How she opened herself to him. Their first kiss, a gentlemanly soft kiss that was innocent.
When they arrived back at HQ, the other Angels and Drew were under the impression that they had more than just kissed. Both Sheamus and Christine were angry over it. Sheamus smiled as he remembered how angry Christine was at Kevin, telling him that it wasn't the reason why they were together on the cruise.
As Sheamus reminisced, Drew paced around the dining room, his hands running through his long hair. This was supposed to be a celebration. A joyous night with family. Now he sat in silence, his head falling in his hands. After retrieving a shirt for him, Jester walked in and heard the horrible guttural sob. He slowly walked to the dining room, his gaze on his friend. Only one other time he heard that cry. The night Drew's mother died.
Drew moaned and sobbed, all his emotions surfacing. He looked up, his mouth open but no words. "It's over. It's all over.", he quietly said. "The fuck ya talking about, mate?", Jester asked. "All of it, mate. My career. My relationship. Hell, my life!", Drew slumped back. "Ok, hell no! Yer not gonna go back ta that. Not while I got air in my lungs, brother!" Jester knelt in front of Drew, grabbing his hand. "I was with ya when Ma Angela died. I'm here now."
Drew rocked as he stewed in his misery, "I don't fucking care, Lee." "Aye ya do!", Jester hollered. "Brother, ya got an incredible woman. Yer gonna be a dad, Drew. A hellova dad. The best dad I know. Yer far from over. Far away from it. Look what ya did with yerself. Look what ya did fer us, the wrestling scene here in Scotland. Ya coulda forgot us. Me, Dallas, the guys and gals. Ya didn't."
Drew pulled at his hair as he cried, "I dunno if I can do it. I hurt Cherry. I hurt her sa bad. I hurt everyone." Jester shook his head, "Mate, she loves ya more than anything. She knows the man she's with. She accepts ya as ya are and yer past. Like we all did." Drew looked wild eyed, "I fucking killed a man. Lee! I beheaded him." "That is pretty badass. I'm just saying.", Jester laughed.
Drew shook his head, "I told Cherry I'd protect her with my life if needed. I just hope..." Drew blinked, biting his lip, "…the babies." Jack looked at his phone and smiled, "Christine just texted me. She's ok. The babies are ok. She's not awake yet, but she'll be fine. The girls are there. So is yer dad." Drew rubbed is face in his now washed hands, "Aye, dad's probably going ta get after me. Wait! Where's Sheamo at?"
"He's outside. Too quiet. Kinda scary.", Jester looked to the door outside. "His eyes are closed. Got the ring in his hand.", Jester sighed. "Let me talk ta him." Drew stood up, facing Jester. The two men hugged tightly. Drew tightened the hug and said, "I can't live without Cherry." "I love ya, ya wanker. And yer not gonna have ta.", Jester smiled. Drew shook his head, "Yeah. I love ya too, tosser. You've always been there fer me, mate. Best non-brother a guy could have."
After the much-needed talk and hug from Jester, Drew slowly walked to the backyard, seeing the tall Irishman sitting alone on the steps. "Sheamo.", Drew coughed his words out. In the 20 plus years the two men knew each other, this was the true test. This wasn't kayfabe or a storyline. This was their lives. The women they loved.
Drew sighed, walking closer to Sheamus. "Stephen.", Drew bit his lip as he faced the stoic Irishman. Sheamus only shook his head moaned. "Christine, snuck and texted me. Yer babies are fine. Cherry's fine. Still out of it, but she's ok." Drew nodded, "Yeah. Jester told me. It's killing me that I can't be there with my Love and my babies. But...I killed a man."
Sheamus spat out, "Ya took care of that waste of space, fella! I did the same bleeding thing. I'd do it again." Sheamus looked at his bloody knuckles. Now a foul look crossed his face. Drew asked, "What? What is it?" Sheamus closed his eyes, trying to maintain, "That arse. He told me, before the fire that he... defiled her. He raped her!" His anger grew again, "I enjoyed hearing his bones crack. All that suffering...all that pain..." He stopped talking.
"God's." Drew sighed, "If I knew that, I'd have eviscerated him with my bare hands." Drew folded his arms. Sheamus said, "I never knew. Christine never told me. I just hope..." Drew wouldn't let him finish that negative thought, "Don't even go there, mate! You two...I've never seen ya so happy. That's yer woman."
Sheamus lamented, "I just wanted to ask her tonight. It'd have been a double celebration. Us." Drew blinked, "Aye, we still have a lot ta be grateful for. Guess I gotta stay here. Jester said he and Stu took care of Moss and that bum ass Corbin." Sheamus agreed, "Yeah, Randy helped too. Good thing he was here." Drew relented, "Aye. Guess people can change. Maybe after all this is over, Randall and I should have a sit down..."
Their talk was stopped by another voice. Stu fussed, "OK! What the bloody hell was that back there? Swords? I mean for fuck's sake!" Sheamus sighed, "We had ta handle a problem, Stu." Stu said, "Yep. Big problem. Two, actually. Don't think they are gonna be a problem anymore because ya killed them." Drew smirked a evil smirk, "Yeah. We kinda figured that one out." "Felt kinda good. Maybe I am a psychopath." Stu shook his head, "Nah, yer just two blokes I happen to love who are loyal and protective of their families. Can't fault ya there."
Stu walked back inside, hearing Jester holler for him. Drew asked, "Sheamo. I need a favor. I need the keys ta Jester's van. Think ya can distract those two? I have ta see Cherry. I need ta be with her." Sheamus smiled at his friend, "Oh, I had a feeling ya were gonna say that. Yeah, I can do that. One thing, fella. Put a jacket on at least! I know ya struggle with clothes." "No worries. My jacket's in Jester's van. Just get me the keys..." He winked at Sheamus.
Sheamus went inside, slipping the keys in his pocket and placing them outside the door. He pretended to be upset again about missing Christine, going in the living room upset. Stu and Jester were consoling him, when Stu caught Drew running to the van and speeding off. Jester smiled, but Stu was exasperated, "What's that wanker doing? He's not supposed to leave! He could get caught! Kevin said…" Sheamus interrupted, "The hell with what Kevin said. Nothing in this universe will stop Drew Galloway from the woman he loves." Now Sheamus really smiled.
