Chapter 106: When Fears Come True

"It's time to return home, Yuga. Leave the rest to me." Yuamu rested her head on Yuga's space suit. "Goodbye, Yuga. My far-flung future descendant…My dearest child."

The distortion in time and space began to swirl closed counterclockwise once Yudias, Yuhi, and Yuamu landed on the Great King's ship. But just as Yuhi announced it was also time for them to return home, Yuamu looked back and vanished, save her glasses.

For all his scaremongering and demonization of the father of Rush Duels, Zaion had been predictably wrong about Yuga (a miscalculation he politely apologized for). Yuga didn't want to complete Resurrection of the Dead. He was, in fact, fiercely opposed to its existence. Thus, Zaion inadvertently aided Yuga's cause again, despite getting Yuga's reasons backwards.

He was just glad to be rid of him, one of the pairs of hands that opened the hatch to send Yuga back to his time. One of the six – including himself, Asaka, London, Rovian, Luge, and Manabu – who shared a face with Yuga's crew on their journey to the fated Duel on the moon.

The card which would mark ownership of Rush Duels drifting away from the hands of children…The card that in Ohdo Yuga's time was wielded by Goha Yuga to deprive others of their memories…was secretly locked away by Kayama Badlove where nobody (not even Kawai Tell) would find it.

Created by Otes.

Ohdo Yuga's great fear.

The silent, dark assassination of the spirit of Rush Duels.

Duel Seal!

The choppy image of UTS' TV came on.

"No matter if the past, future, or the present block my way! I'll carve a road through it all and press onward! Let's go, Sevens Fear Magician!"

Sevens Fear Magician (Level 7 DARK Spellcaster/Effect ATK 2100 DEF 1500)

"You're really not comin' with us? It's not like freakin' Manya's joinin' the team and will be there to drop truth bombs on ya."

"Ah. Mm. With Yuamu missing and you going off into space, one of us has to stay behind and pull in some money for when you get back, cabra."

"Income for Damamu's future?"

"Hahahaha! But I don't do anything every day~!"

Yuhi hugged Chupataro, getting close to his ear. "I toldja didn't I? I get that you're gonna keep lyin' to me from time to time."

Chupataro simply gripped Yuhi harder.

"I dunno what made ya change your mind 'bout joinin' us. You were so psyched, you were singin' a song 'bout Meeeg-chan, but…I love ya. And I understand why ya felt ya needed to go against Yudias and take Zaion's side. I wouldn't want to forget ya either."

Yuhi knew his sleeve was receiving a salting.

"Ahaha!" Damamu orbited.

"Keep in touch. Bug Asaka or Phaser to use their communication equipment if ya have to."

"Chuchu," Chupataro chuckled. "Chupa will do that, chupa."

Valvelgear (less its 8.88 million occupants) idled over the launchpad between the three pillars of MIK, Mutsuba Heavy Machinery, and Goha Company.

"Chupa loves you too, chupa. Let Chupa bite you once more before you go, chupa." Chupataro chewed Yuhi's cheek.

Yuhi wiped the saliva off, and Chupataro faced Damamu.

"Be good, chupa. Behave."

"I gotcha!"

"We're gonna find a way to revive the Velgearians, just you wait! And we're gonna find Yuamu and bring her home!"

"When you say it in that order, finding Yuamu is like the sidequest, chupa!"

"Chupataro!" Yuhi scolded.

"Please do!" Tazaki-san sidestepped Chupataro's tactless humour.

"UTS!"

"Woohoo! We're going~!" Damamu flew Yuhi up to Valvelgear's bridge.

"Yuhi-bocchan…" Purisaki-san swelled with pride.

"He's all grown up." Yagi-san shed a tear.

"HAVE A NICE TRIP, CHUPA!"

"Sevens Fear Magician, chupa." Chupataro watched and listened intently to the VHS tape Shewbahha was hired by an anonymous party to deliver to him.

"This monster, you see…" Yuga explained. "I made this monster because the card representing my worst fears is about to be reborn in this period. And I fear it's your fear too, Chupataro."

"Chupa's fear, chupa?"

"I'm sure you're wondering why I took a special interest in you. And I'm sure you have your own theories. But I'm going to tell you, since I can't be certain what's on the other side of this coming fight, however prepared I am for it. I decided long ago: to say goodbye to the future I was supposed to return to, so I can take care Rush Duels don't become a more complex card game. So the environment doesn't eventually get taken away from children, and Rush Duels stop being fun."

That was old information.

"I'm not Yuhi's descendant, Chupataro."

It wasn't a flip of the coin who Yuga traced his ancestry from. It hadn't crossed Chupataro's mind Yuga was anything other than Yuamu's direct descendant. Barring something unnatural and Earthdamar-y with Damamu, the only possibility genetics-wise was a line drawn from Yuamu to Yuga.

"I accessed the data through Kaizo. Before I was coerced by Zuwijo into recreating Rush Duels here in the past, you and Yuhi weren't going to be what you are now."

Wasn't anything Chupataro didn't assume already. That was what he feared Resurrection of the Dead would undo. That without Rush Duels, he wouldn't have met Yuhi under the same circumstances, if at all. And Damamu would have never come to be.

Yuga really was the instigator of their relationship!

"You are who you are because of your past. I understand that very well…painfully so."

Knowing what he was seconds from finding out though…

"Chupataro, I have to tell you."

He wished he'd stopped the video prior to Yuga laying his cards on the table.

"Yuhi is…He was…going to be murdered by an alien in Mutsuba Town."
