A week had passed since the entrance exam and 2 letters had arrived for me and Jiro. Even if I was almost guaranteed a spot in the school because of my performance in the exam, I was still excited to see my score.
I ripped open the envelope, revealing a small metal disk that I placed down on the coffee table in the living room. The entire Jiro family was watching the recording with me so I made sure everyone could see it.
A holographic screen appeared from the disk, creating the image of a white mouse, bear, dog… thing. He wore a white shirt with a red tie and a black vest. He had a long scar over his eye, but that didn't stop him from having a cheerful smile.
"That's right. It's me, Nezu, the one who could be a dog or a mouse or a bear, mut more importantly… I'm the principal!" Nezu jumped and waved his arms in the air as he introduced himself. "Congratulations Clay, you not only passed the written portion of the exam, but you also took first in the practical portion of the exam!"
"YES!" I pumped my fists in the air, the Jiro's clapping for me and my achievement of getting first. It took us a moment, but we returned our attention back to the screen so we could hear Nezu.
"You scored an astounding 100 villain points in the practical portion, but there was another avenue to gain points in the practical exam. We saw how you rushed into the path of the 0-point robot and stopped it from wreaking havoc, saving some other contestants." A screen behind Nezu appeared and showed me running to the field with my three dragons behind me. "We wouldn't be heroes if we didn't reward you for your bravery in standing up for your other contestants. Congratulations, you were awarded 30 more rescue points!"
I nodded my head once again, happy with the score that I got in the exam. Another screen appeared and on it were the scores of the top 10 examinees that took part in the exam. I was at the top with my 130 points, second place was someone named Katsuki Bakugo with 77 villain points and 0 rescue points.
"While some of your examiners wished to award you more points, the fact that you destroyed part of the area you were placed in diminished some of the enthusiasm the examiners had for you. If you wish to increase any scores in the future be sure to tone down the destruction. There's a sheet of paper in the envelope, it will tell you what class you are in for the new semester. Welcome to the Hero Course!" With one last wave Nezu was gone and I was left with a smile on my face.
"Good for you kiddo, why don't you call your parents and tell them about getting in." Mr. Jiro rubbed my head, a smile on his face after watching the recording.
"I'll call them after we watch Jiro's." I nudged her with my elbow and she opened her envelope as well, another metal disk falling out onto the table. Another holographic recording played stating Kyoka had passed the written and practical exam. There were some tears in her eyes after knowing that she had made it into UA, but she wasn't crying out of sadness, but out of joy.
"Congrats on making it into UA." I gave her a hug after we both made it into the course. We looked at the papers that were included in the letters to figure out what classes we were in. Turns out I was put into class 1-B while Jiro was put into 1-A. "Guess we're going to be in rivalling classes, don't think I'll be letting you get ahead of me."
Jiro smirked, "Please, the only thing you're going to get ahead of me is in how much property damage fines you need to pay."
"Low, really low." I hold a hand over my heart as if I was hurt by her words and get a chuckle for my efforts. "I should call my parents, tell them what's up." I grab my phone and leave the room. I dial the number for my parents and wait for them to pick up, it only takes a moment.
"Hey, Mom, Dad, I got some good news. I made it in!"
Finally, the first day of school had arrived. It was only a half day though, things like orientation and meeting our classmates would be happening today. I was pretty excited, I could feel the adrenaline rushing through my body and I wasn't even at the school yet.
"Kids, hurry up or we're going to be late for school!" Mr. Jiro called from the living room. I walked out to the living room where he was waiting with Jiro tying up her shoes. "C'mon, I'll drive you for your first day."
I tied my shoes as fast as I could then rushed out to the car. The drive didn't take long, less then 20 minutes and we were finally at the gate to UA once again. Jiro and I walked together until I arrived at my room, class 1-B.
"Well, this is me." I stood in front of the massive door, probably able to let a 3-meter giant in without issue. This would be where I spent my first year here, an experience that I wouldn't forget. "I'll see you at lunch?"
"Sure, but you don't have to if you want to hang out with your classmates instead. I'm gonna get going to my class." With a wave she was off, and I was left standing alone in front of the door. I slapped my cheeks to hype myself up.
"Lets do this." I pulled on the handle and opened the door to my new homeroom and was met with the gazes of some of my classmates. I met their gazes before breaking eye contact and walking up to one of them. "Hey there, my names Clay, nice to meet you."
The person who I had walked up to was a normal looking guy with black spiked hair and a blue striped bandana on his head. He put on a smile and shook my hand. "Same, names Yosetsu Awase."
"Wait, you're 'Clay' from the entrance exam? As in first place?" Another guy, this time with silver hair and pointed teeth with some sort of thick tan and black substance around his eyes, spoke up recognizing my name.
"Yup, the one and only." I replied back with a smile on my face. The other students looked up with interest, trying to gauge who the number one really was and what sort of personality he had. "Don't worry I don't bite… Sometimes."
Some of the class chuckled at the joke but others started sweating, thinking I was serious. Before I knew it some of the others in the class began walking up to me to exchange greetings, until finally a guy the sort of looked like a praying mantis walked up with his arms crossed.
"So, you're the number 1." He looked me up and down, probably trying to gauge my strength. "You don't look like much, what's your quirk?"
The others also listened in to figure out what my quirk was, so I smirked and was about to activate it when the door to the class opened revealing a large man in a predominantly red costume with black highlights and white gloves, boots and belt.
"Good, looks like you're all here. Take a seat everyone." We all followed his instructions and found a seat in any available spots. "Welcome to the hero course, my name is Sekijiro Kan you can call me Kan-sensei or Vald King, I don't care."
The class nodded their heads in response to their teacher to which he harrumphed. "Before we go to the orientation I need to go over the roll, if I call your name the say here."
"Yosetsu Awase."
"Here." The boy with the headband called out.
"Sen Kaibara."
"Here." This time a boy with dark brown hair called out in response. He was fairly good looking, but nothing compared to me.
"Togaru Kamakiri."
"Here." The preying mantis boy spoke up this time, almost like a growl.
"Shihai Kuroiro."
"Present." This time a student with a body covered in pure black with the exception of his white hair spoke up.
"Itsuka Kendo."
"Here." The first girl of the class spoke up, she had orange hair tied into a pony tail and three bangs over her face.
"Yui Kodai."
"Mm."
"Kinoko Komori."
"H-here sensei." Another girl with a lot of brown hair spoke this time with a stutter, she's probably just shy.
"Ibara Shiozaki."
"Present." This time it was a girl with green, vine like hair. She had her hands clasped together and her eyes closed as if she were praying.
"Jurota Shishida."
"Here Sir." This time it was a formal sounding boy with shaggy brown hair his head and hands from what I could see.
"Nirengeki Shoda."
"Here." A short boy spoke with ice blue hair and a round face. He spoke in a soft voice though so he might be shy as well.
"Pony Tsunotori."
"Here." Another girl spoke, one with horns and blonde hair, though she had an accent so she might be an exchange student. Nothing wrong with that.
"Kosei Tuburaba."
"Here." Another boy with short brown hair and huge pupils answered this time.
"Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu."
"Here Teach." The boy with silver hair and the tan and black substance around his eye spoke up.
"Setsuna Tokage."
"Here." The second to last girl in the class spoke up with dark green hair and pointed teeth.
"Manga Fukidashi."
"Here!" A boy with the head in the form of a speech bubble spoke up, his face reading 'Here!' as well.
"Juzo Honenuki."
"Present." Another boy without any lips spoke, kinda freaky.
"Kojiro Bondo."
"H-h-here." Another guy, this time with yellow skin and what looked like a glue dispenser on the top of his head stammered out his response.
"Hiryu Rin."
"Here sir." A boy with black hair spoke out, he was another exchange student, this time from China.
"Reiko Yanagi."
"Here." The final girl of class 1-B spoke in a quiet voice. She had pale grey hair and her arms were up on the table with her hands sprawled as if she wasn't giving them any support.
"Clay."
"Here sensei." It was my turn to speak up and I waved as I did so.
"Good, looks like everything is in order. If you would follow me then we can head to the orientation for you first years, then you have the rest of the day to explore the campus." Vlad walked out of the classroom with all of us students following behind him.
We walked over to an open field where the other classes had already gathered, all except for class 1-A for some reason. I shrugged and figured they may be waiting for one of their students to arrive before coming here.
"Damnit, Aizawa is doing it again." Vlad didn't seem to agree with me though, sighing and shaking his head in frustration. He led us to our positions and then told us to wait there, moving up to the platform where the rest of the staff were gathered.
We waited a few minute before the start of the presentation, at which point the same mouse, bear, dog thing walked on stage and climbed a step ladder so he could reach a microphone.
"Greetings to new and returning students, am I a bear, a dog, a mouse? I'm the principal!" Nezu gave a wave to everyone and we all clapped for him. "I want to say a few things about this school and what we hope to happen by the end of the year."
"For some of you this is your last year attending UA with us, we hope to see you all turn into promising members of society, whether that be by becoming heroes, or accomplished businessmen, support item designers, or even just regular workers. For some of you though this is your first year at this academy and we welcome you."
The first years cheered and clapped their hands at being mentioned by the principal, the older years grinning at the excitement of their juniors and remembering their own excitement at that time. The cheers eventually died down and Nezu went back to speaking.
"I would like to make known and remind our students that this school is one with the freedom for the teachers to teach how they see fit. That includes-" Before he could continue the sound of an explosion interrupted his speech causing most of the first-year students to duck their heads, me included.
The teachers though sighed and facepalmed knowing exactly why there was an explosion at this time. After a moment they finally moved and settled the students down, assuring them that there was no villains in the area.
"Sorry about that, but that is exactly what I was talking about. The teachers are allowed to have their classes skip events like these and teach how they think will be the most efficient method for their students. That explosion was one of the first-year classes partaking in a quirk apprehension test, something that the hero course would've taken tomorrow."
Some of the students were excited for that idea, others though were worried about missing out on important events if their teachers decided it wasn't beneficial for them. I was in the excited bunch.
"Well that is all from me, if you have any questions or concerns then please be sure to let your homeroom teacher know and they will answer to the best of their ability." With another wave, the principal walked away from the stand letting the teachers take their classes back to their rooms.
Class 1-B followed Vlad King back to our room where we sat down in our seats. Almost immediately some of the students raised their hands to ask Vlad questions. He sighed before pointing to Kendo.
"Vlad-sensei, why is class 1-A doing the apprehension test so early if we were going to do it tomorrow anyway?" The redhead asked the question that all of us were dying to know the answer to. Vlad sighed before giving his response.
"Class 1-A has a different teacher. He's stricter, has high expectations of his students and will do anything to make sure they expel. That includes expelling one of them that doesn't meet his expectations in that test." The class gasped at the revelation, expelling someone on the first day was practically unheard of.
"In the past he's even expelled an entire class because they didn't meet his expectations." The class didn't even gasp at that one, they just left their mouths open, some putting their hands over their mouths. "Don't worry, I won't be expelling anyone in my class unless they deserve it."
This calmed the class down a bit, showing that Vlad did indeed care about his students helped. With the question almost everyone wanted answered, only a couple had their hands up to ask questions now.
"What is it Rin?" Vlad pointed to the black-haired boy.
"Sensei, shouldn't we do the test now to make sure we don't fall behind the other class?" The boy brought up a good point, if they got too far ahead then it could look bad for class 1-B.
"We could go out and do it now if you all really wanted, though that would mean you would be doing regular work like English or math during the time you could've been doing the test." Vlad offered this to the class, and most of the class agreed that they didn't want to do regular school work when they could be doing something like the apprehension test instead.
"Kamakiri." Vlad pointed to another student with his hand up.
"Then what will we be doing for the rest of the day?" The mantis boy questioned.
"For today we are just going to be getting you used to the facilities, introducing ourselves to each other and perhaps giving a demonstration of your quirks to your peers." Most of the students got excited over the mention of showing off their quirks to one another.
"Alright, let's get to it then!" Tetsutetsu shouted from his seat, others agreeing to his sentiment and jumping out of their seats in excitement.
"Alright, follow me and make sure you don't wander." Vlad walked out of the room with the whole of class 1-B following him through the halls of the building.
A/N: Okay, for those wondering, no Clay doesn't have a last name. The reason will be explained in a later chapter, just keep reading and you'll find out. Thank you.
