"WELCOME BACK TO THE SECOND HALF OF THE FIRST ROUND OF THE FIRST YEARS ONE ON ONE TOURNAMENT! SO FAR WE HAVE SEEN FOUR INCREDIBLE MATCHES BETWEEN CLASSMATES WITH ONLY FOUR GUARANTEEING THEIR SPOTS IN THE QUARTER FINALS OF THE TOURNAMENT." Present Mic announced to the audience and the spectators that were watching live, having probably gone on commercial.
"SO FAR THE STUDENTS TO ADVANCE HAVE BEEN MOMO YAOYOROZU FROM HERO CLASS 1-A, YUI KODAI FROM HERO CLASS 1-B, KATSUKI BAKUGOU FROM HERO CLASS 1-A AND TENYA IIDA FROM HERO CLASS 1-A. LET'S GET READY FOR THIS NEXT HALF OF THE TOURNAMENT WHERE EIGHT MORE IMPRESSIVE STUDENTS DUKE IT OUT FOR THE SUPREMACY OF THE FIELD!" As Mic announced the names of those who had advanced their images appeared on the screens in the arena, and also probably on the screens for those who were watching at home.
"AND NOW, HERE COMES THE NEXT MATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT. WALKING IN FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ARENA, HE'S COLD, HE'S HOT, HE'S THE ICY HOT PRINCE OF THE HERO COURSE, FROM CLASS 1-A, SHOTO TODOROKI!" Walking to the arena, Todoroki appeared calm and collected, hands in his pockets without a care in the world. Though if you looked at his eyes you could see a raging fire burning within. I knew this was going to end badly for Rin.
"AND HIS OPPONENT FOR THIS MATCH, HE'S THE CHINESE DRAGON OF THE COURSE, ONE OF TWO TRANSFER STUDENTS IN THE HERO COURSE, FROM CLASS 1-B, HIRYU RIN!" Rin walked into the arena, not acknowledging the lackluster introduction compared to Todoroki's. If one looked closely then you would see the shaking of his hands, nerves or excitement.
Midnight walked onto the stage by the arena, getting the crowd under control and speaking the rules for the boys to hear once again. "Are both contestants ready?" Rin nodded his head in response, Todoroki stood still.
"Then let the match… BEGIN!" Without wasting a moment Rin covered his hands in green scales and began launching a volley at Todoroki, though they didn't make it far before they were intercepted by an ice wall.
Before he had time to react to the ice wall, ice began creeping up his legs and froze him to the ground. Then a burst of cold air erupted from behind Rin, though he couldn't turn around to see what it was that happened as his entire body had been frozen except his head.
What happened though was that the ice that crept up his legs continued to freeze his body until it simply exploded with power and created a glacier that was taller than the stadium itself. One of the spikes of the glacier nearly impaled Yanagi as well if I hadn't pushed the girl out of the way of the spike and took the spike to the shoulder.
"Shit!" The others turned to look at what had happened, Yanagi on the floor with her eyes wide open in shock. Had I been a second slower than the spike might have gone through her head.
"CLAY!" Kendo was the first to reach my side, not sure what to do as she looked at the spike impaling my shoulder.
"I'm good…" I seethed in pain as the spike numbed the area that it ripped through. I didn't need anyone worrying too much, I could heal without much worry but they wouldn't let me take the spike out of my shoulder.
"Don't you dare remove that. We're taking you to Recovery Girl and there is nothing you can say that will tell us otherwise." Kendo put any arguing I was going to do to rest as Kamakiri came forth and sliced the spike off from the main glacier. With the spike free I was able to move more but it still hurt like hell.
"Allow me to assist." Yanagi stood up and used her quirk on me, floating me in the air as she and Kendo made their way to Recovery Girl's office. I could clearly see that it was taking a toll on Yanagi, a small amount of blood falling from her nose.
I think about what I can do to relieve a bit of pressure, going to a monster that had a powerful mind and ability, Jinzo. The monster may have been evil, but it did have support anyway and one of those cards was an amplifier that might be able to amplify Yanagi's power.
I pull a card out of thin air and activate my quirk, summoning the piece into reality. "Yanagi, I have something that might relieve the pressure you're feeling and even strengthen your quirk. Try this on."
Yanagi looks at what is in my hand, a metal cap with needles and vials sticking out from the top. She looks at the cap suspiciously then back at me before deciding to trust me on this. She put the cap on her head and instantly felt her headache relieve itself, there was no more strain to keep me floating in the air.
"This is incredible, the device you've given me has amplified my power, so much so that I feel that I could lift this whole stadium into the air and still have power left to make a cup of Earl Grey Tea." That was a very specific example but I suppose that's just how Yanagi works.
"Cool, you can keep that [Amplifier] as a piece of support gear, I would recommend only wearing it during a serious confrontation though, exercising your power will only increase the power that it amplifies." I give her advice as we keep walking to the nurses office, still being the class rep that I was told to be.
Recovery Girl's office was on the bottom floor of the stadium, near the exit hallway from the arena. It just so happened that it was also on the right side of the arena, the side that Todoroki had used when he had his match.
Because of his burst of power he needed to stay back a bit and help melt his opponent out of the ice he created and get rid of the glacier he made so he was delayed in making it out of the arena. What he didn't expect to find when he started walking back to his booth was a group of students heading in his direction, two walking while the other floated, but what stuck out to him (and of the boy's shoulder) was the spike of ice that impaled him.
A terrible feeling invaded his body, leaving him with a deep pit in his stomach. He didn't know why he felt like that, didn't know what that feeling was, but he didn't like it.
The group stopped when they saw him, one quietly speaking to the other before she moved and the floating boy followed behind. The one who spoke stayed behind, arms crossed and eyes that were filled with righteous fury.
When the two others were out of range, the girl who had stayed behind walked up to Todoroki who stood still. It wasn't until she slapped him that he finally stopped staring after the boy who had left with the other girl.
"Do you have any idea what you just did!" Todoroki met her eyes, not speaking. "You nearly killed one of my classmates and impaled another with your glacier!" She screamed at him while he continued to remain quiet.
The girl stared at Todoroki, waiting for him to respond or say anything in defense of himself, but nothing came out of his mouth. After another minute of waiting the girl had enough and spoke once again.
"Damn it, say something! Give an excuse, say your sorry, don't just stay silent!" She yelled at him more, and as he continued looking her in the eyes he noticed that there were tears starting to form. It didn't matter anymore what he was feeling, he didn't know and he didn't care anymore, he needed to speak.
"I was… angry." He spoke softly, so that only the girl would be able to hear him. It was a simple statement, one that got the girl to take a step back and continue to glare at him. She stayed silent waiting for him to continue.
"My father, Endeavour, spoke to me before the match." This revelation caused the girl to go wide-eyed for a second before she continued glaring. "Have you… heard of quirk marriages?" He didn't know why he was telling this girl this, he hadn't told anyone this, not even his own siblings.
"Yeah, they were an old practice where people with strong quirks got together to have a child with another strong quirk. What does this have to do with anything?" The girl answered and questioned, confused by the sudden question herself.
"My father has always strived to be number one, but no matter how hard he tried he couldn't get past All Might. So, he decided that if he couldn't, one of his children would. He paid out my mothers family, bought her off of them and tried for kids, all of them he deemed failures. Until me." Todoroki paused, letting the information he was giving sink in before he continued.
"I refuse to be his masterpiece, I refuse to use his power. When he spoke to me before the match I got so angry that I lost control and got one of your friends hurt." Then Todoroki did something that no one would've expected, he bowed. "I'm sorry."
The girl didn't do anything for a minute, watching as he continued to bow to her. Then after a moment she rested a hand on his shoulder and brought him up again. "I'm not the one you have to apologize to. You almost killed Yanagi and you hurt Clay. You'll have to earn their forgiveness."
Todoroki nodded his head, "I understand."
The girl nodded her own head before heading off in the direction the other two went before turning around when he didn't follow. "Are you coming? You need to say sorry and now is probably the best time to do it."
Todoroki thought for a moment before deciding to follow, he wanted to apologize and help if he could, though he didn't know how he could. The two walked in silence for a bit until the girl spoke up once again.
"I never introduced myself. Itsuka Kendo, vice rep of 1-B." Todoroki finally looked at the girl, more than just her teal eyes and allowed himself to take in all of her features. She had a head of orange hair with a long ponytail on her left side. The P.E. outfit didn't hide her curves, or her very athletic body, overall she was very attractive, though Todoroki could care less about that.
"Shoto Todoroki, 1-A." He gave a short introduction even if it wasn't necessary. The two continued their walk in silence until they reached the nurses office. Inside they could hear yelling, confusing the two before they opened the door.
Inside they found Clay sitting on a bed, the ice spike still in his body but looking a little smaller, yelling at Recovery Girl saying that he could just use his quirk to heal. Yanagi was sitting on the side, playing with her new and improved quirk, lifting herself and sometimes Clay, the boy taking no notice.
"I already said NO! I will not allow you, a student with no medical knowledge, to just rip a spike from your body and possibly bleed out!" Recovery Girl was swinging her cane shaped like a syringe around and wacking him on the head a few times.
"And I already told you I can be healed in minutes if you just let me do this! I can assure you nothing bad is going to happen!" The two continued shouting for a few minutes until finally the two came to a compromise. Recovery Girl would remove the spike to make sure nothing caused anymore damage than it should, then Clay would use his quirk to heal himself with Recovery Girl watching and making sure that nothing was going wrong with the process.
Clay pulled a card from his pocket, confusing Todoroki, and activated his quirk to summon it to the real world. Standing in front of him was a slightly chubby woman with green hair, blue and red robes and holding a glowing orb in her hands. This was [Dian Keto The Cure Master], one of the strongest healing cards in Clay's arsenal of spells.
Recovery Girl and Dian Keto spoke for a moment, uttering gibberish that the students didn't understand, before turning to Clay to begin the healing. It was as the spike was being removed from his shoulder that he finally took note of the presence of Kendo and Todoroki.
"Hey, I was wondering when you would get back! Is that Todoroki with you?" I spoke out with a kind smile on my face, not at all feeling salty about being impaled by one of his ice spikes. "Can you come here Todoroki?"
The boy looked confused for a moment before he did just that. He took a few steps forward until he was at the edge of the bed. When he was finally in front of me I summoned [Prominence Hand] and slapped him in the face with it.
The slap sent him hurtling to the ground but [Prominence Hand] isn't very strong so he'll heal fine. Both of the nurses didn't do anything about Todoroki being slapped, both too focused on getting the ice out of my shoulder to care.
Todoroki stayed on the ground for a bit until he spoke up, "I deserve that." He continued to lay there as he dealt with the pain of being slapped by a large metal hand.
"Yeah, you do. You nearly killed Yanagi and had I not reacted fast enough you just might've." I pointed to Yanagi who was sitting in the chair, floating Kendo now as well as herself and any loose bits or bobs she could find.
"Right." Without another word he stood up and made his way over to Yanagi, the girl looking at him as he did so with a glare. When he finally reached a spot in front of her he did the same that he did to Kendo, bowed a full 90 degrees. "I know that this doesn't make up for the things that nearly happened, but I hope that you can eventually forgive me for nearly hurting you and hurting your classmate."
Yanagi was silent for a moment, continuing to glare at the boy before she took a deep breath and relaxed her gaze. "Fine, I don't forgive you." Todoroki didn't get out of his bow, waiting for the girl to continue speaking. "But I will let you earn that forgiveness."
Todoroki broke out from his bow this time and with his same expressionless face, nodded to the girl. "That's all I need."
Midoriya didn't know what was happening, one moment he was running toward Shinso and now he's frozen where he stands. His body isn't responding to any of his commands and now he's walking out of the arena.
'Stop, no, please! Not like this! I haven't told the world that I am here!' He continued fighting for control of his body but no matter how much he fought he couldn't regain control. Then, in the distance he saw them. Eight ghostly figures in the hallway to the arena. Not a second later his quirk activated on its own, breaking two of his fingers and freeing him from Shinso's control.
"What the hell, how did you move! You shouldn't be able to while you're under my quirk!" Shinso started shouting at Midoriya, trying to get the boy to speak once again to no avail. Then, the General Course boy spoke about his problems with a villainous quirk and how Midoriya must've had it easy with his quirk perfect for heroics.
Through all of this, Midoriya thought about how much he could relate to the purple haired boy, how much he was like him, ostracized from society, bullied daily all because of something out of his control. But at the moment, none of it mattered, he needed to win, to show the world that he is here.
After being punched in the face and pushed towards the edge of the arena, Midoriya grabbed Shinso by his arm and flipped him over his shoulder, causing his foot to leave the arena and winning him the match. A small bit of chatter and encouragement between Midoriya and Shinso and the greenette walked towards the nurses office to get his fingers looked at.
It didn't take a long walk, maybe a couple of minutes, but when he finally made it in he found a sight that was out of this world.
Recovery Girl was at her desk like normal, working on some documents. Only her desk, chair and herself were on the roof surrounded by a purple glow. Todoroki was in the room, confirming where he left to after finishing his match with the 1-B student. He was playing a game of UNO with three other people, this time they were sitting on the wall also surrounded by a purple glow. Actually, everything in the room was surrounded by a purple glow.
The three others who were in the room he didn't know, except for the other boy. It took him a second but he eventually recognized him as the boy who he talked about the furry monster a while ago with. The two other girls were in the room, one being an orange haired girl with a long ponytail on one side of her head, her hair not following the rules of gravity at the moment, the other was wearing a metal cap on her head, her UNO cards floating in front of her. She was presumably the one who was floating everything.
"Um… Excuse me?" He didn't know what to make of this situation at all. Why was everything not where it should be? Why was Recovery Girl walking on the ceiling? Why were they playing UNO on the wall? And why was he now floating with them?
It took a second to register what was happening, but when he found himself upside down on the ceiling next to Recovery Girl he stopped questioning it. He didn't even need to ask Recovery Girl to heal him, she simply wacked him in the head before kissing him and wrapping his fingers in bandages before going back to her work.
Without even thinking he walked up to the group of people who were playing UNO and watched them play. It seemed like Todoroki was winning, only 2 cards in his hands while the girls had 4 and 5 and the other boy had 17. He had no idea how someone managed to get 17 cards in UNO unless they were very unlucky.
"Um, excuse me?" The group turned to look at him, waiting for him to continue. "What is happening?" He rubbed the back of his head, unsure of if he really wanted to know the answer.
"Well," It was the other boy who spoke, "I just got +16'd after I placed a +4 down, now I will have my revenge in my match against him in the tournament and revenge back in class." That explained so little to Midoriya.
"Uh, I mean why are you on the wall and Recovery Girl on the ceiling?" He pointed to Recovery Girl.
"Oh, that? Yanagi wanted to test the limits of her quirk since she got a new support item. She decided that moving everything in the room would be a good start, so here we are. What about you?" The boy played a +2 against Todoroki who played one of his own and called 'UNO' followed by Yanagi and the orange haired girl. The boy collapsed against the wall as he drew his 8 new cards, followed by Todoroki playing his final card.
"Uh, I just finished my match, broke my fingers." Midoriya showed his fingers to the group who all winced at it except for Todoroki who didn't show any emotion.
"Yikes." The group was silent for a second, then Clay remembered something. "Wait, what match was yours?"
"The seventh. They should be calling the eight match soon though." Before Midoriya even finished speaking Clay transformed and was gone in the blink of an eye. The others didn't pay it any mind, while Yanagi shuffled the cards with her quirk. "What just happened?"
"Sorry about him, he's in the eighth match. We were here 'cause Todoroki stabbed him with his glacier." The orange haired girl answered the question, giving Midoriya more questions than answers.
"Wait, Todoroki stabbed him? What happened, is he okay? Is anyone else hurt?" Midoriya started asking a bunch of questions to the group who just stared at him in amazement and amusement.
"He's fine, Todoroki's ice was going to hurt Yanagi and Clay moved her out of the way, though it caught his shoulder. We came here as soon as we could to heal him up." The orange haired girl calmed Midoriya down as he sat down with the group.
"Want to play a game?" Yanagi questioned Midoriya, getting the boy to question just what was happening with his life at the moment. He ended up nodding his head and the next game of UNO began.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO THE FINAL MATCH OF THE FIRST ROUND OF THE TOURNAMENT!" The crowd roared in excitement, ready to witness the next pairing of the tournament. "LET'S NOT WASTE ANY TIME! COMING IN FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ARENA, HE'S A SPARKLING BEACON, HE'S THE TWINK OF 1-A, YUGA AOYAMA!"
The boy walked onto the arena, not a care in the world at being called a 'twink'. He enjoyed the cheers that the crowd were giving him and soaked it all in, even doing a few poses for the crowd.
"AND COMING IN FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ARENA, HE'S BEEN THE TOP OF PREVIOUS ROUNDS, THE REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE FIRST YEARS, THE SUMMONING MASTER OF 1-B AND THEIR REP, CLAY!" I walked onto the stage, waving my hands a small bit at the crowd. I didn't do anything as pronounced as Aoyama, but they did start cheering for me more.
I walk towards the center of the arena where Aoyama is waving at the crowd more. I want to ask him a couple of questions first though, making the match a bit more interesting.
"Aoyama! I have a couple questions before we begin." I get the boys attention and he stops posing for the crowd.
"Oh, you have questions for me? Please, ask away." He sends me another wink and I take a small step back.
"Uh, okay. I can make this duel more interesting for us if you want? Or we can do what we've been doing for most of the tournament and just punch each other until one gives up. What do you want?" I give my opponent the option, might as well try to make this interesting.
"Oh, and what would make this more interesting?" He doesn't seem too interested in that but I continue anyway.
"I can change the field that we're on to something way more interesting. Or we can just not fight the way we usually do and we can use my quirk to duel. Or we can just punch each other. I'll let you choose." I give him the option and he considers for a moment before replying.
"Let's do a standard battle, wouldn't want you to go through so much effort and be exhausted before we actually begin." He sounds concerned about me but I can tell he just doesn't want to deal with any of that.
"Alright, your loss." I shrug my shoulders and walk back to my starting position. He too goes back to his position before Midnight calls out to us.
"Are both contestants ready?" I nod my head and Aoyama says 'Oui'. I'm not sure if he's really French or just putting on a play. "Then… BEGIN!"
I activate my quirk and summon a card from thin air, summoning the monster within in front of me. The monster is a small being, no legs visible but it floats above the ground. It's wearing a reddish/pinkish cloak and a silver metal helmet with two horns on its head and revealing 2 glowing red eyes and a set of white pointed teeth. In its hand it holds a tuning fork and a round hammer and on its back is a large mirror being held by a purple skinned creature with wings and glowing yellow eyes. This monster is [Mirror Resonator] and he is going to be what wins me this battle.
Aoyama doesn't register my monster before it's too late, already having shot his naval laser in my direction which Mirror Resonator blocks. The laser actually ends up being sent back in Aoyama's direction, speeding towards the blonde and hitting him in the head.
With that one blast Aoyama ends up collapsing backwards and starts screaming bloody murder over his face, getting to his feet and running out of the arena. The crowd is stunned by what happened, I'm stunned by what happened, Midnight is stunned by what happened, Mirror Resonator is stunned.
It takes a moment, but eventually Midnight clears her throat and declares me the winner of the match, much to the confusion of the crowd and me.
"What just happened?"
A/N: So for those of you wondering who won between Kaminari and Kirishima, coz I didn't mention that match, I had Kirishima win that match. No offense to Kaminari but he'd had one good charge then he wouldn't be able to do anything.
Anyways, that was the last fight of the first round of the tournament, hope you guys enjoyed them.
Also, can you guys let me know what hero Clay should go with for internships? I'm not going to have him interact with the boys who fight Stain, 1-B will be staying out of that fight. Also, feel free to give me an OC as the hero he'll intern with.
Later!
