Chapter 18 Heart of the Cards
Sean sighed as he was relaxing in his office for a change.
Since the Demons had agreed to join the Legion things had been running more smoothly than expected.
Thats when someone walked in making him look seeing it was Seto.
"Hey Seto." Sean said.
"Nice office." Seto said.
"An old friend of mine got me into collecting relics. Makes the place look good. So whats up?" Sean asked.
"I was hoping perhaps you could help me acquire an old facility. I've tried buying the place from the owner but he says it has sentimental value to it. And yet no ones using it anymore." Seto said.
"Mmm. I can understand sentimentality just fine. But if your not gonna use a building for something that could help other people...All right. I'll step in. Give something good in return that they can't refuse." Sean said.
Later
"How you manage to convince people so easily I'll never understand." Seto said as they got done with the deal that only took five minutes.
"I learned negotiation from Dooku back in the day before he fully retired. Learn to compromise with people and give them something they need rather than just give them something they don't want." Sean said.
"I see. Which reminds me how come he's not part of the Legion?" Seto asked.
"He's retired these days. He's in his 80's he's not much help in his current age and he'll agree." Sean said.
"I see." Seto said as they walked back to his building.
"So now you got the building what are you gonna use it for?" Sean asked.
"I'm gonna tear it down and build a new state of the art dueling arena." Seto said making him snort.
"You ask me you need something more mobile than stationary." Sean said.
"Oh?" Seto asked.
"Well, think about it. Which makes more sense? An arena you have to constantly pay for or something you can pay for and do anywhere?" Sean asked.
"When you put it that way I can understand." Seto said as they made it inside before seeing some commotion.
"The hell?" Sean asked before they looked on the screen seeing Turok dueling.
"You never said your brother was into the game." Seto said.
"I didn't think he was. Who's he dueling?" Sean asked before it was revealed to be Odd making them scoff.
"Oh this is just sad." Seto said as Odd lost in less than five moves.
"That was disappointing." Mokuba said.
"No shit." Sean said as Turok walked out grinning. "Wipe that grin off your face. You won cause Odd doesn't know shit." Sean said.
"I know but seeing him pout was funny." Turok said.
"Let me see that deck of yours." Seto asked as he gave it to him before looking through it. "It's a good combination of magic, trap and Monster cards. But I'm only seeing Warriors, Beasts and Beast-Warriors." Seto said.
"Eh they felt right and it's just a start up." Turok said.
"It's better than the decks we started out with years prior to the Merge." Sean said making him nod.
"You never show the cards you got." Turok said.
"Thats cause I don't have time for this right now." Sean said leaving.
Later
"So let me get this straight. You heard from someone at school about a rare card and you think it's the one you've been looking for?" Sean asked as they were about to enter a game shop.
"No proof but like you alway said. Check every lead and you might be surprised by what you find." Seto said.
"How very true." Sean said as they walked in.
"Hello can I help you? An old man said as four other young students were in the room.
"If you can't I wouldn't be surprised." Seto said.
"Tea?" Sean asked seeing her.
"Sean? What are you doing here?" Tea asked.
"Seto's an old friend. We're just here for the card." Sean said.
"Hey you guys into duel monsters? This is great. Maybe we can get together and duel." Joey said.
"Us duel you? It would be more of a challenge playing solitaire." Seto said.
"What?" Joey asked
"I am the number one ranked duelist in the country, and the favorite to win the duel monster's championship. You wouldn't last two minutes in a duel against either of us." Seto said.
"Enough. We're not here to start a fight contrary to that. We just came to see the card and nothing more." Sean said before they spotted it. "So it is the Blue eyes white dragon." Sean said before Solomon put it away.
"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Solomon asked before Seto slammed a case down before opening it up as Solomon gasped in awe.
"Listen to me, old man. Give me your blue Eyes White Dragon and I'll trade you for all of these." Seto said as in the case were hundreds of rare cards.
"Whoa!" Everyone yelled.
"Ah nice...But no thanks." Solomon said.
"Huh? Who says no to that? Why would you keep one card compared to all that?" Sean asked confused.
"It's not about how rare the card is. It has sentimental value to it. You see this card was given to me by a dear friend. So departing from it is out of the question." Solomon said as Seto frowned.
"Oh I get it. I can understand that." Sean said as Seto was about to leave. "Don't do anything unnecessary." Sean said making him smirk before they left.
"How do you know him anyway Tea?" Joey asked.
"I've known Sean for a few years now. Didn't know he was an immortal though back then." Tea said.
Next day
Yugi and the others arrived back at the game shop after school.
"Hey, Gramps. Back for more cards." Joey said.
"Grandpa?" Yugi called out but he wasn't in the shop.
"Maybe he went out?" Tea guessed.
"Maybe, but why would he leave the door unlocked?" Joey asked before the phone rang before Yugi picked it up.
"Hello. Game shop." Yugi answered.
"Ah, Yugi. Perfect." Seto said shocking him.
"Kaiba?" Yugi asked.
"Your grandfather's here visiting, but he's not feeling well. Why don't you come by my office and pick him up?" Seto asked before hanging up.
"Kaiba? What have you done, Kaiba?" Yugi questioned.
Soon the group rushed to Kaiba's building before they made it to the top floor seeing Solomon on the ground.
"Grandpa!" Yugi yelled rushing to him.
"Yugi, I failed. I wanted to teach that boy Kaiba a lesson about the heart of the cards, but I lost." Solomon said before groaning.
"How's the old man feeling, hmm?" Seto asked.
"Kaiba, you sleaze, what have done to him?" Joey asked.
"Oh calm down he's not actually hurt. All we did was duel nothing more. Wouldn't exactly look good for the Legion if one of it's financial backers did that now would it? No. All we did we duel and nothing more. Of course though we did put our best card on the line. This was his of course." Seto said holding the blue eyes before sending it to Sean who caught it between his fingers.
"May I?" Sean asked.
"Please...Treat it with respect." Solomon said making him nod.
"Don't worry he's not actually physically hurt. Just emotionally is all. Then again the way they dueled also might have had a hand in it." Sean said.
Tea had drawn some symbol on their hands to let Yugi know they were there for him while Joey and Tristan took Solomon to the hospital while she stayed behind to help Yugi who took his Grandpa's deck.
Sean was in the stands watching as Tea walked to him.
"How can you be friends with Kaiba if he did something like that?" Tea asked.
"Oh relax. He's not some vile bastard like most in his position would be. No he just picked up some bad habits from his adoptive father. Someone even he hated since the things he did were things neither of us could tolerate. Seto aims to make life better for people like I do. But in this world you gotta be tough for good reason." Sean said.
"I guess." Tea said as the Duel showed Yugi in the lead.
"I call on the blue eyes white Dragon!" Seto yelled as it appeared and roared.
"Wait a minute...I thought." Tea tried to say before Sean held the one he gave him.
"You didn't think the old man was the only one with one did ya?" Sean asked as Seto summoned another.
"So he gave it to you so it couldn't be used against him by someone he didn't know." Tea said.
"Yup. So hows the dance lessons going?" Sean asked making her blush since he knew about her dream to be a dancer.
"It's going good. Thanks for the payout by the way." Tea said making him grin.
Thats when Yugi actually summoned Exodia surprising him.
"Whoa." Sean said surprised as Yugi won the duel.
"OPEN YOUR MIND!" Yugi yelled as he did something to Seto making Sean raise an eyebrow.
"This should be interesting." Sean said.
Later
Sean looked seeing Seto was out of it.
"Sean? Whats wrong with Seto?" Mokuba asked worried.
"Ah don't worry bud. He'll be fine he's just figuring himself out is all." Sean said before getting an alert.
"Uh Kruger...We got a serious problem." Reznov said.
"What is it now?" Sean asked.
Later
"That fucking moron." Sean said.
Sean looked seeing Darkseid on the screen with a terrified Padme next to him.
"Seems as though one of your Senators thought we could negotiate. The only thing she did was get her entire crew killed. Makes me wonder if the Senate is full of fools. You on the other hand are not." Darkseid said making Sean sigh as the transmission ended.
"We gotta save her." Anakin said about to rush out but Sean grabbed him.
"We will...But I'm not sending in Legion forces to rescue her. She doesn't deserve that kind of rescue. No...I know a friend of mine who can help her out and bring her back." Sean said.
"Who?" Mace asked.
"One who's skills rival even your order." Sean said.
Meanwhile
Padme cried out as she was tortured by Dasaad.
"Just submit and the pain stops." Dasaad said.
Thats when an alert came through making him look seeing an unknown ship appraoching the planet.
"Legion recue huh? Funny I know for a fact you and Kruger despise one another since you think we're not beyond negotiation. How dead wrong you are." Dasaad said placing a hand on her face making her cry out.
On the landing platform some of Darkseid's men waited before the ramp came down. Rushing inside the Furies arrived.
"One ship? Kruger is really Arrogant." Stompa said.
Thats when the men yelled before their heads rolled out.
Suddenly they heard mechanical footsteps making them look seeing some man who was clearly a cyborg with yellow slitted eyes looking at them.
"You have someone who doesn't belong to you. I recommend you hand her over...If you want to live past today."
"Such arrogance. Who do you think are." Gilotina
"I...Am General Grievous...The Newest member of the Legion and second highest ranking member of the Military council...And you had your chance." Grievous said before pulling out two lightsabers before charging at them. (Cartoon version since at least that one can fight fair)
Padme cried out as she was tortured for information on the Legion.
"Just tell me what I want to know." Dasaad said.
"She knows nothing." Grievous said shocking him seeing him with the female furies gravely injured. "She is a fool but she still is innocent hence why Kruger asked for my intervention. Now unless you wish to be injured greatly...Hand her over." Grievous said making him growl as he released her before he picked her up before leaving.
"Such power." Dasaad said about to send for security.
Only to get his hand blasted making him yell in pain.
"Don't even try it. Your so called elite failed. You would only be sending troops to their doom." Grievous said as he left.
Later
"You are without a doubt the most idiotic person I met next to Audrey. Did you seriously think you could talk to these kind of people?" Sean asked Padme as she was getting treated.
"Don't you think I feel bad enough as it is?" Padme asked.
"Don't hand me that BS. I don't know where you get these delusions that everything can be talked through diplomacy but this is the real world. That doesn't always work. Hell it barely works now. Only reason I've been doing so good is because I know the people I talk to. And yet when you were told by me and several other people about them you flat ignored us." Sean said
"I just thought we should try...I didn't realize how cruel and vicious he was." Padme siad.
"But I tried to tell you but you flat out called me a lair. My people never lie and I'm not the only one who could prove he was dangerous. He once took control of Superman once prior to the merge and forced him to attack Earth to claim it as his own. And killed a friend of his since he was a sore loser. Thats the kind of monster he is. Him, Thanos and Vilgax are the worst among all 63 universes that merged. And you blindly believed you could negotiate with them just so you could make some claim we don't have to build armies. Correct me if I'm wrong and I'm not but you built an army to take back your planet." Sean said shocking her.
"That was completely different." Padme said.
"It's the same. You fought against the Trade Federation to take back your planet when they were secretly aligned with Palpatine before we discovered the truth. And yet you think no one should build armies thinking it will push us into civil war. There is a war coming. No matter what you try. You can either accept that or you can stay out of the fucking way." Sean said leaving making her sigh.
"Don't take it the wrong way." Anakin said walking in.
"And whats the wrong way?" Padme asked.
"He does agree with you about wanting to avoid a war. War is hell from what he's seen and experienced. But he knows to put aside his beliefs for the greater good. He knows these people and he knows what they're capable of." Anakin said making her sigh.
"Yeah...Now I see. I just thought it wasn't out of the question...And instead I got innocent people killed." Padme said in regret.
"We all make mistakes...Learning from them makes us better." Anakin said as he left.
"Nice job Grievous." Sean said seeing him observing some new recruits.
"It was a pleasure. Also I managed to capture another of their so called Elite. Lashina I think her name is." Grievous said.
"Good. We can question her and get some information." Sean said.
"Very impressive." Kenobi said making him narrow his eyes before leaving. "Is...Something wrong?" Kenobi asked.
"Uh...Grievous doesn't exactly have the best history with the Jedi or the Republic since Both kinda screwed his people over." Sean said.
"I'm not following." Kenobi said.
"Do you remember the Huk wars?" Sean asked.
"Yes. We were called in to end the war." Kenobi said.
"You screwed over his people indefinitely. You siding with the Huks despite the fact is they constantly attacked his people first and enslaved them...You guys led to hundreds of thousands of his people dying." Sean said shocking him.
"But thats...No we ended the war." Kenobi said.
"You ended it but you didn't side with the ones who were actually innocent. The Huks constantly attacked them. Violated their sacred burial grounds and you guys led them to poverty and starvation." Sean said shocking him.
"I...We didn't mean for that." Kenobi said.
"Intention is irrelevent. You guys have a lot of blood on your hands." Sean said. (Now it all makes sense where Grievous's hatred towards Jedi and the Republic Comes from)
"But we never meant for them to suffer. We just ended the war. And I recall they attacked them on their home planet." Kenobi said.
"After years of them doing the same to Grievous's people first. They started that war because they're cruel, Savage and vile. Which is why if another incident occurs...I have no choice but to give the order for complete and total extermination...They'll be wiped out completely. I will not take chances of them attacking other worlds just because they think they can do whatever they please." Sean said leaving.
"You know he's not wrong." Turok said walking to him.
"I take it you've heard the story from him?" Kenobi asked.
"From Grievous before the Merge. He took me on a few of his trips before and I met him. I even asked why he was called Grievous. His real name was Qymaen jai Sheelal. He gave himself the name Grievous...Because he's always grieving for his wife." Turok said.
"He was married?" Kenobi said.
"Yup. She was killed by those bugs and he has been grieving ever since. Not all people become what they are without a reason. Only reason he's not flat out attacking the Republic or joining them is because my brother made a deal with him. He would make sure the people were safe, Provided for. And they would never suffer like that again. Since he knows we never lie he trusts us. And his people have prospered ever since." Turok said making him frown. "That is why he's constantly changing everything in the Universe from Earth to the Republic to the Jedi Order. Why do you think he changed the code and brought up all its flaws?" Turok asked.
"I never really saw the Ordered as flawed back then." Kenobi said.
"Uh huh? And ignoring a sign the Sith returned was a smart move?" Turok asked making him frown. "You guys have a really bad habit of making mistake after mistake and not actually really learning from them. And Yoda and Mace agreed with that saying the Jedi needed to change if they wanted to make a true difference in this new universe." Turok said.
Later
Sean sighed as he arrived in his home.
"I swear that fucking moron can't accept that her ideals are just ideals. I'll never understand what Anakin sees in her." Sean said.
"I think it's more of true love."
Sean looked seeing Diana in nothing but her birthday suit grinning at him.
Looking at her without her usual attire she had very large breasts with an eight pack abs and a bubble butt.
