Don't Give Your Heart to Me – Part I
Summary: Mid Season 3 – Wildly Off Canon. Some consistency with things that happened in the show, but don't fall in the same order. Damon is tired of Elena's constant push and pull. In a determined attempt to flush her from his system he turns to Bonnie who is desperate for the distraction from her break up with Jeremy. What starts out as secret and strictly sexual affair, slowly develops into something more. But Damon knows that Bonnie deserves better. Rated M for strong language and smut. This may turn into a two or three shot story.
Side Note: There is a line from 'Buffy' hidden in here. See if you can pick it out 😉
Song Inspiration: Half a Man – Dean Lewis
But how am I supposed to love you when I don't love who I am?
And how could I give you all of me when I'm only half a man?
'Cause I'm a sinking ship that's burning, so let go of my hand
Oh how can I give you all of me when I'm only half a man?
And no one can ever hurt me like I hurt myself
'Cause I'm made out of stone
And I'm beyond help, don't give your heart to me
…
Damon watched her as she slept; her long curled locks splayed across his pillow, the sheet resting just on the cusp of her ass, the plump profile of her breast pressed into his mattress. She didn't usually spend the night, but last night was wilder than most. A smirk pulled on his lips as the memories came back to him; Bonnie showed up at his doorstep determined and fiery, storming passed him, shedding her coat and shirt as she went, glancing back over a bare shoulder as she tossed him her bra. He caught it out of the air. You coming? She'd said with a mischievous glint in her green eyes, before heading up to his room with a sway to her hips. He sped up to her at the landing, throwing her over his shoulder, relishing in the husky laughter that bubbled from her throat.
He had no idea what had gotten into her last night; he was usually the one showing up at her door, or pulling her away into darkened corners, but as he ran his eyes over her naked back, he was determined to figure out what had her so riled up. Damon's phone buzzed loudly on the nightstand, and he scrambled to grab it before Bonnie woke up. It was Elena.
Something happened last night. We need to talk. I'll be at the boarding house in ten minutes.
Damon's eyes shifted to Bonnie who was just starting to stir. "Morning sleepyhead." he smirked.
She shot up, clutching the sheet to her chest. He couldn't help but chuckle at the muss of her hair, the pinched frown and the sleepy pout of her lips. "Morning? I didn't mean to stay the night." she mumbled to herself disparagingly, running a hand through her hair.
Damon linked his hands over his bare torso with a satisfied grin. "I think I wore you out."
Bonnie snorted, shooting him a narrowed gaze. "That had nothing to do with you, trust me." She shed the sheet unabashedly as she swung her legs off the bed, snatching her underwear and jeans off the floor.
Damon ran his eyes appreciatively over her bare ass as she shimmied into her pants. "And what did that have to do with exactly? You came to me…you never come to the house."
She faced him, slipping on her bra and doing the clip up in the front, ignoring his exaggerated pout when she covered her breasts. "Yeah, obviously, this place is basically a revolving door of all our friends. It's also why I shouldn't have spent the night." She glanced around tucking her hair behind her ears as she frantically gathered her belongings. It wasn't lost on him that she avoided his question. "Where is my shirt?" she mumbled to herself.
An evil smirk curled his lips. "Oh yeah…Elena is on her way." The witch snapped her heated glare to him. "Did I forget to mention that?" he teased cheekily grabbing the fluffy pillow she threw at him.
"Damon! What is wrong with you? How long do I have?" She flipped through the blankets, checking under the bed, anywhere her shirt could be.
He lay unashamed, and unbothered, amused by her frantic behaviour. "She said ten minutes…but that was like, five minutes ago."
She let out an annoyed sigh, fixing tired eyes on him. "You're the worst. Where is my shirt?" she exclaimed again, throwing her arms in the air.
Damon sped in front of her completely naked, staring down with a seductive glint in his eyes. "Downstairs…where you left it." he reached for her, pulling her closer, burying his head in the crook of her neck.
Her eyes closed briefly, before snapping out of it, pulling away with a nervous laugh. "Damon, stop…you're trying to distract me."
He kissed down her shoulder, slipping the strap down. "Is it working?"
"No…" she let out a breathy sigh. She was so close to succumbing to him, his touch lighting her skin on fire, but his head snapped up.
"She just pulled in." Damon hurriedly slipped on a pair of black jeans, while Bonnie hopped into her ankle boots, grabbing her phone off the night stand and rushing downstairs, with Damon hot on her heels. She grabbed her coat, and Damon grabbed her shirt, tossing it to her and stealing one last heated kiss as she ran for the back door. She shot him a glance biting her lip, trying to hide her smile. He knew she enjoyed the excitement of getting caught as much as he did. It was a rush and it fueled the sexual intensity like gas to a flame.
Only seconds later, the front door opened, and Damon stood there with an awkward wave. Elena shot him a confused frown, eyeing his half naked form awkwardly. "Hey Damon…" her eyes darted around. "Am I interrupting something?"
"Not anymore." he mumbled casually moving to the drink cart. "So…what can I help you with, Elena?" He casually poured a drink, gulping it down.
She eyed him. "Seriously…it's eight in the morning." She shrugged out of her coat, and laid it along the arm of the sofa.
"Who are you, my mom?" he grumbled. He'd lost his patience for her recently. With Stefan working with Klaus, she was constantly here leaning on him for his support in bringing back his brother. They had spent the whole summer looking for him, and there were moments when Damon thought, no – knew she felt something for him. He could see it in her eyes and then the air would shift and she would pull away, acting like it never happened.
.
Elena watched Damon pace furiously. "How did this happen?"
"We thought of everything, Elena!" Damon gestured wildly, the bourbon in his glass sloshing around carelessly. "Klaus having hybrids. Mikael turning on us. We brought in Katherine so you weren't in danger. Anything that could have gone wrong we were prepared!" He tossed back what was left in the glass, as he continued to wear a hole in the floor.
She shook her head incredulously. "I don't understand. Stefan wanted Klaus dead. More than anything. That's what we were counting on."
He paused, his eyes widening intensely. "We blew it."
Elena ran her hands through her hair. "Where's Katherine?"
"She ran for the hills like usual, the minute things got bad! And who blames her?! Klaus would've crushed her. I had him, Elena. I had Klaus! This could have all been over!" Damon threw the bottle of bourbon in the fireplace, and it roared to life, raging much like he was.
Elena grabbed for his arm. "Hey. Damon...Hey!" He shrugged her off, but she kept on, reaching for him again more firmly. "Hey, listen to me!" She grabbed his face in her hands. "We'll survive this. We always survive. Trust me."
Their eyes connected and her heartbeat quickened under his penetrating stare. He bit his lip, and her eyes travelled down to it. "We're never getting Stefan back. You know that, don't you?"
Elena's eyes slanted sadly. "Then we'll let him go. Okay? We'll have to let him go." her thumbs stroked his cheek, and he leaned forward, searching her eyes. Elena gently placed her lips on his, almost by their own volition. When he attempted to deepen the kiss, she suddenly let her hands drop, and she backed away putting several feet between them. "I-I should go…home." She stuttered, tucking her hair behind her ears as she avoided his gaze. "I should go home. We'll talk tomorrow." Her fingers came up to her lips in disbelief of what she'd just done as she ran for the door.
.
That was two weeks ago, and yet, here she was again…surrounding him, suffocating him. He shot her a dark look, the anger boiling up in him. "What do you want, Elena?"
She reeled back. He usually wasn't so harsh with her. "I saw Stefan last night." She started gauging his reaction warily. "I'm worried about him Damon; he's acting completely irrational. He's hell bound on getting revenge against Klaus."
Damon shrugged. "Good. Let him…he owes us for fucking us over." He sauntered into the kitchen, and she followed him with a roll of her eyes.
"He's going to get himself killed! He's not thinking straight." Elena watched him as he grabbed a blood bag from the fridge, pouring it into a glass. "I was hoping you could talk some sense into him."
He chuckled ironically as he sipped his breakfast. "Why would I do that? Sure, his humanity is hanging on by a thread, but for the first time in ever, I'm actually with my brother on this one. As far as a plan goes, it's not half bad; even for Stefan."
She blinked shaking her head incredulously. "Are you kidding me right now? You know what's Stefan's up to and you didn't tell me?"
"He asked me not to. And not everything is about you." he added pinning her with a hard stare.
She let out a tired sigh. "Look, I know that things have been…tense between us lately. But please don't cut me out." the brunette took a cautious step towards him.
"How can I, Elena?" He exclaimed throwing his arms out to his sides. "You're always here! You say it's always going to be Stefan, but whenever there's a bump in the road, it's me you run to. I'm sick of it. I'm so tired of being the guy you lean on whenever Stefan lets you down."
Her mouth dropped open in shock. "Damon, you know that I care about you…"
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah…but that's all it can ever be right? You can't have it both ways…but I know you can't choose. So, let me do it for you. I'm done." He said firmly. "I'm done waiting around for any hope that one day you'll love me the way that I love you…" Tears collected in her eyes and her lip quivered, but he continued on. "I'm done watching you pretend like you don't feel anything for me."
"I do feel something for you…and it scares the hell out of me." She cried. "But I love Stefan."
He nodded, a deep frown knitting his brows. "I know. You should go."
She nodded sadly, wrapping her arms around herself as she headed for the door. Stopping in the doorway of the kitchen, she turned back. "I'm sorry." And then she was gone…and he felt like he could breathe again.
…
He felt her enter the Grill before he saw her. Her magic seemed to call to him now since he'd been inside her, and the monster in him woke up when he slowly turned to glance at the entrance from his spot at the bar. Bonnie's eyes found his instantly, but she was good at concealing the heat behind them. She wasn't alone; Elena and Caroline flanked her as they found a booth, and Damon turned back to his drink. It had been a couple days since he spoke to Elena and just as long since he'd seen Bonnie and it was killing him. He needed her; he needed Bonnie to wash Elena away and distract him from his inner turmoil.
Finishing off his drink, he shot her a look, as he headed to the bathrooms and he heard her heart rate pick up. He picked up on her rushing out a quick excuse to Elena and Caroline, who were engrossed in conversation, and hurried after him, checking to see if anyone saw her. Bonnie wandered down the short hallway, frowning to see it empty, but Damon pulled her into the handicap bathroom and had her pinned against the door roughly. His hands coasted down her body gripping her hips as he ground into her.
"You've been avoiding me." he growled, nipping down her neck.
Bonnie panted, tunneling her fingers through his raven locks. "Not avoiding…I've been busy." Damon's hand popped the button on her jeans, and slipped under her panties to her slick heat. "Aah." She moaned, raising her hips.
"Too busy for this?" he teased, swirling his fingers around her clit, relishing in her hitched breathing and desperate clutch.
She shook her head, and pulled his head up to crush her lips on his. She let him push her dress up her hips and her panties down her legs and he pinned her with a heated look as he dropped to his knees before her. Damon swung her leg over his shoulder and slowly ran the tip of his tongue through her wet folds, nuzzling her and inhaling her intoxicating scent with a deep growl. Bonnie was nearly trembling with pleasure already. He lapped at her gently, building her climax slowly and enjoying every moan and whimper that slipped passed her beautiful lips. Damon could spend hours between her thighs, tasting her magical essence on his tongue, feeling her grip his hair in her fingers, watching her toss her head back and expose her long neck to him. He decided it was the closest he'd get to heaven.
"Damon!" She cried, louder than she intended as he slipped a finger inside her wet heat.
"Shh, shh, shh." He hushed against her nether lips, kissing her pussy as he curled his finger, stealing her breath. "You don't want your friends to hear, do you?" he taunted with a smirk.
Bonnie shook her head biting down hard on her bottom lip, rocking her hips against his ministrations desperately. "Please…" she panted.
Damon knew what she was begging for. He slowly stood, and Bonnie's leg came up with him, hooking it under his arm while the other hand quietly undid his belt and dropped his zipper. Bonnie reached into his pants, stroking the thick length of his cock as his mouth dropped open and eyes hooded with the feel of her smooth hands. Damon slanted his mouth on hers, letting her taste herself on his lips as he lined himself up at her entrance, teasing her with the head. Her eyes were a wild green that pierced through him, and he couldn't deny her any longer.
In a deep thrust, Damon plunged into her heat, and she squeezed him tightly letting out a moan of contentment. He loved that he could draw out those noises from her; like she had been craving this all day and he was finally putting her out of her misery. With a dark and sinister look that melted her, Damon covered her mouth with his hand, muffling her cries, and that only seemed to turn her on more. She met his thrusts with rolls of her hips, clutching his shoulders as he pounded her into the door and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Bonnie loved that he could take her over so fully; she loved that he didn't treat her like she was made of glass. She heard him moan her name haughtily in her ear, and it set her ablaze. He could feel her pulsing around him and lowered his head to her shoulder, biting gently with blunt teeth, and that alone sent her hurtling into a shaking orgasm. She cried out under his hand, and Damon pumped into her a few more times before he released inside her with a low groan of his own.
She collapsed against him and they both panted with drunken smiles as they collected themselves. All too soon, Damon felt her pull away, and he slipped out of her reluctantly. She slapped his chest. "Ow…why?"
"You bite me." She complained, reaching down to pull her panties up, and straighten her dress. She looked at herself in the mirror inspecting the mark he had left.
He rolled his eyes skyward. "Oh barely!" He met her gaze in the mirror and peered at her through his lashes. "And you loved it." He drawled cheekily.
Bonnie spun around and narrowed her eyes on him, but a ghost of a smile pulled on her lips. "Maybe…but you left a mark." She watched as he closed in on her, sauntering over like a lithe panther. "How exactly am I supposed to explain that?"
He shrugged as his finger tips traced the redness between her neck and shoulder. "You could just tell them about us."
She let out a sharp laugh. "Right…cause that will go over well." She turned back to face the mirror, fixing herself up to look more presentable and less…well-fucked.
Damon stood behind her. "Why did you come to me the other night?"
She rolled her eyes with a shake of her head as she fixed her hair to cover the bit mark. "Damon, come on."
"You broke your own rule, Bon. Not that I'm complaining because I quite enjoy the image of you naked in my bed, but something happened and I want to know what." He brushed the hair off one of her shoulders and kissed the exposed skin.
She sighed exasperatedly. "Jeremy and I got in a fight." She admitted quickly.
Damon blinked, pulling away as if he was burned. "I thought you two were over."
She turned to face him again, meeting his cold eyes. "We are…but he wants to try and make things work."
"And you said…" he prompted.
"I'd think about it." Bonnie held her breath as she waited for his reaction.
"Hm." His jaw ticked. "And you thought you'd think it over while getting under me?" He scoffed and shook his head in disbelief.
He turned and headed for the door but her words stopped him. "Oh come on, Damon, like you care." She spat harshly. "We both know what this is…the only reason you're fucking me is because you can't fuck Elena. So, who's really using who here?"
He glared at her over his shoulder, and ripped the door open, letting it slam roughly behind him. As he stormed out of the Grill, he had to wonder why the idea of her getting back together with Jeremy bothered him so much. I mean besides the fact that he never really cared for the guy, and he cheated on her with a ghost, and he was such a whiny little bitch; Damon realized that it bothered him, because he actually liked Bonnie…and she deserved better than Jeremy Gilbert. He sneered even as his name came to his head. What did she see in him anyway? He was a pup! Sure, he was human, and had that boyish charm, but Jeremy? Really? What could he possibly have to offer someone like Bonnie Bennett?
That made him pause. What did he have to offer her, besides mind blowing, toe-curling sex? Not a whole lot. And she wasn't wrong…the only reason either of them got caught up in this – whatever this was, was because neither of them could have what they really wanted, and they came together in a clash of desperation and loathing and wild passion.
.
2 months ago:
Bonnie marched with purpose through the woods, her chin raised defiantly, and her mouth set in a firm line. "I can do this without you, you know." she called out in annoyance to the man following a couple paces behind her.
"Sure, Bon!" he started sarcastically. "I'll let you wander off through the woods, in the middle of the night, over a hundred miles from home, to hunt down a thousand-year-old psychotic hybrid…by yourself. Because that's the right thing to do."
She chuckled, glancing over her shoulder. "And since when do you care about the right thing to do? Did Elena yank on your chain? Tell you to heel?" she grumbled under her breath as she trekked through the up rooted trees.
Damon sped in front of her, cutting her off abruptly. "Hey! What's your deal? I'm trying to help you." He snapped back.
"I don't want your help!" she exclaimed, her voice dripping with attitude. "I know that the only reason you're here is because you're trying to get in good with Elena. You think that if do enough she'll finally fall head over heels in love with you and forget all about Stefan, but it's not going to happen! God Damon…" she sighed infuriatedly. "Why even torture yourself this way?" she pushed passed him, but he fell in step beside her.
"Not everything I do is about Elena." He ignored her scoff. "I know she loves Stefan; it's always going to be Stefan, but he's off playing Mr. Hyde with Klaus!"
"And yet here you are, chasing down every single dead end just like you have been all summer long. Isn't this what you wanted? Stefan finally out of the picture?" Bonnie stopped, hitting him with a cold glare. "Far be it for you to capitalize on a good opportunity." She snarked sarcastically.
Damon closed in on her menacingly, his eyes wide and furious. "You think you know the kind of man I am, Bonnie? You think I'm the kind of man that would take advantage of Elena, steal my brother's girl while he's off paying for my life with his?" he sneered down at her in a low tone that sent a chill down her spine.
She stood her ground, tipping her chin up and lifting a brow. "Well, if the shoe fits."
"I'm not. Maybe I was…but not anymore and you know why?" He stalked closer to her, and Bonnie backed up until her back hit a tree, trapping her. "Because I love Elena; I love her so much that I will torture myself just to see her happy. I'll track down my brother to the end of the earth even just to have her run back into his arms because that's what love is Bonnie!"
"She doesn't love you back, Damon!" she yelled at him.
"I know!" he bellowed, before letting out a dejected sigh. "But I don't care…" She frowned, confused. "Oh, I get it…you've never been in love, have you?"
She averted her eyes. "Shut up." She grumbled as her jaw tensed.
"Not even with Jer-bear?" he continued to tease. "And here I thought it was all rainbows and daffodils."
"Do you want me to give you an aneurism?" she pushed passed him roughly and stormed off, but he casually fell back in step with her.
Damon chuckled cruelly. "Don't get me wrong…I know it's slim pickings, but really? You can do better than that, Bon."
Her teeth clenched together as tears filled her eyes. "Yeah, apparently so can he." Bonnie mumbled under her breath before she could stop it and the regret was instant.
Damon grabbed her arm, forcing her to face him and meet his curious stare. "What does that mean?"
She thought about arguing with him to drop it, but she was too exhausted. "We broke up." The witch shrugged, letting her hands slap helplessly to her sides. She dared to meet his eyes. "He cheated on me…with Anna."
He winced. "Fuck. Want me to kill him?" His tone was hopeful, and he realized that it wasn't because he hoped she said yes, but because he hoped it would make her laugh.
And it did. Bonnie let out a breathy laugh as she wiped her eyes. "I'll take it under consideration." She gnawed hard on her lips. "So, the answer to your question is no; I've never been in love. And I don't want to be." She added strongly. "Dealing with all the drama like Elena, or crying over a guy like Caroline…or end up a love-struck fool like you." She gestured to him bitterly. "It's not worth it."
Damon scoffed. "You know what? No wonder Jeremy cheated on you! Maybe if you weren't such a frigid bitch, he wouldn't have turned to a fucking ghost for some cold comfort." He jabbed spitefully, narrowing his icy glower on her.
Bonnie used all her force to push him, but he barely budged. "Fuck you, Damon!" She emphasized with two punches to his chest; the first one connected, but the second one he caught.
"No, fuck you, Bonnie! You spend all this time pretending that you're superior than everyone else but you are no better than the rest of us. Maybe, it's time for you step off your high horse and take a deep breath of reality, sweetheart!"
She laughed ironically as tears sprang to her eyes. "I don't think I'm better than everyone else! It's the opposite! I'm always the one on the outside looking in; the one that's always getting the shit end of the stick. Whenever anybody needs a spell, just call Bonnie! Who cares if she gets hurt or what she wants or if she could die!" The tears streamed down her cheeks as she ranted on. "And don't even get me started on relationships, okay. Jeremy was the only person who even saw me; no one else did. And why would they, with Elena and Caroline around!"
And that's when Damon noticed it. For the first time he noticed that Bonnie, for all her confidence and bravado was deeply insecure. She felt like she lived in the shadows of her best friends...they were always the centre of attention; they were always the ones all the guys fell for. And for the first time ever…he related to Bonnie Bennett. He stared at her for a long moment, as if he was looking right through her.
"What?" She snapped.
He stepped closer to her, his eyes darting over her face as he bit down on his lip. His brows pulled together as his hand thumb came up smudge the tear that fell unchecked down her cheek. "I see you, Bonnie. We have a lot more in common than you think…" He stated quietly, as his gaze clashed with her wide emerald eyes.
She swallowed painfully; the cool touch of his fingertips making her tremble. She'd never seen this side of Damon before…the gentleness, the sincerity, it took her off guard. "What do you mean?"
He offered her a small smile, letting his hand drop. "The mask, the false bravado…it's easier to hide behind than let people see who you really are." Her shoulders dropped and her eye darted away, feeling exposed. "I get you now…"
Bonnie met his eyes sharply and the energy charged between them as her breathing picked up. Her stomach was flipping, and her heart was pounding and she felt like she was going to burn right out of her skin at the look he was giving her. Her brain shut down, and her body took over. Bonnie grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him down for a heated kiss that he immediately melted into. It was frantic and desperate as he yanked her closer to him, snaking an arm around her waist tightly and moaning into her mouth. He sped them to the nearest tree and Bonnie jumped up, wrapping her legs around him and tunneling her fingers through his hair. He kissed down her neck, grinding against her as she panted, tilting her head back in ecstasy.
She could feel every nerve ending in her body and there was nothing more exhilarating. Bonnie pushed the leather jacket off his shoulders and pulled his shirt over his head, raking her nails down his chest, which drew a growl from low in his throat. Bonnie pushed him back dropping her feet to the ground and Damon looked down at her confused; lips swollen from kisses and his hair mussed from her fingers. He barely had time to ask her why, before her hands deftly undid his belt, her eyes never breaking contact with his.
Damon was shocked to say the least, but he didn't dare say anything as her fingers popped the button on his jeans and lowered the zipper. His hand came up to cup her neck, and trail down her chest and toned stomach running along the edge of her pants. Before she could reach in to grasp him, he yanked down her jeans and she shimmied out of them. The only sounds were their ragged breathing and the birds in the trees. She swallowed hard as he rose to full height, his eyes roaming over her body hungrily and he crushed his mouth down onto hers lifting her back up in his arms. Her scent was intoxicating; washing over him like a tidal wave, and in that moment, he craved her like he craved blood.
Bonnie reached down, wrapping her hand around his length and guided it to her slick heat before sinking down in a relieved exhale. He filled her entirely, and as wrong as this was, she'd never felt more confident. Damon smirked grinding into her and forcing a gasp from her lips. He drove into her deeply, pinning her against the tree. Bonnie couldn't contain the moans that echoed through the forest as he unlocked this wild side of herself, she didn't realize existed. One hand reached up to grab at the thick branch above her, using it as leverage to meet his thrusts and the other hand linked around his neck. They created a bruising and intense pace that had her calling out his name like a prayer in the wind and had him letting out a guttural moan when she tightened around him.
Damon was in awe of her; he never would have guessed that Bonnie Bennett would be the type to enjoy the pain with her pleasure, but with each deep slam of his hips she cried out and gripped him harder and he could feel her become slicker around him. He was determined to make Bonnie lose her inhibitions and finally break free from the mask she wore so religiously. Dipping his hips, he hit a different angle inside her that made her breath hitch and whimper shamelessly, pleading with him.
With a deep chuckle he continued his unrelenting pace and tested the waters by bringing one hand to flex around her neck and her collarbone, applying the slightest pressure. And just as he thought, Bonnie came apart in a shuddering, trembling climax. He expected her to look away, hide in shame but instead she met his gaze head on, her mouth parted and panting and her eyes shimmering with untamed fervor. Damon tunneled that hand into her hair and burying his head into her exposed neck as he followed her over the edge with a drawn-out groan.
He pulled back to look at her, waiting for her to make the first move, and they were jarred out of their stupor by the ringing coming from Damon's discarded jacket. Bonnie, pushed him back and hopped to her feet, collecting herself as he stepped back, tucking himself back in his jeans and reaching down for his phone.
It's was Elena…couldn't have come at a worse time. The guilt hit him, but that only made him angry. What the hell did he have to feel guilty over? He didn't owe Elena anything! He watched Bonnie as she shimmied back into her jeans, and he slowly brought the phone to his ear. "Hey." His tone was clipped and strained. "Yeah, she's right here." Bonnie's gaze snapped up to his. Elena seemed to ramble on for a moment before he cut her off. "Look uh…we're kind of in the middle of a good lead. I'll call you tomorrow." He hung up before Elena could respond, and tucked his phone back in his jacket pocket. "Bonnie…"
"No." she said storming past him.
He scoffed. "Don't you think we should talk about what just happened?" he followed after her.
She huffed a sarcastic laugh. "Definitely not."
"Why?"
"Because it's never going to happen again." She affirmed, running her hand trough her hair to shake free the pieces of tree bark.
"You say that now. I give it a week." He continued smugly.
She rolled her eyes. "Until what?"
Damon sped in front of her. "Until you come crawling back for more."
"Ugh, you're bent." She grumbled in annoyance.
He chuckled. "Yeah, but it made you scream, didn't it?" Bonnie shouldered passed him but he grabbed her wrist, and she swallowed thickly. "Admit it, Bon…you've never felt more alive." He tilted his head to catch her eyes seriously. "If I'm wrong, we never have to talk about it again. But if I'm right…"
Bonnie's lips twisted contemplatively. "If you're right…?"
In response, Damon flashed his eyes with a quick raise of his brows, and bit down on his lower lip. He could hear her heart pounding in her chest, and the flush of her cheeks told him that he certainly wasn't wrong. He walked off, with a smirk, and it was a few seconds later when he heard her footsteps following behind him.
.
Bonnie tried hard to focus on the conversation going on around her, but she was lost in her thoughts. Why was he so angry? They decided months ago that this wasn't serious. She knew that if Elena ever snapped out of it, he'd run to her in a heartbeat; she was okay with that, or at least she used to be. After that night in the woods, she was able to convince herself that the reason she slept with him was a moment of weakness, or desperation, the need to feel…anything. But then it happened again, and again and again until it was a routine. A small moment of peace and escape in their chaotic world. She enjoyed the banter back and forth, she was thrilled by the sneaking around, and even though she would never dare to admit it to him, she like how he made her feel. Damon learned her body and what made her twitch, and scream and mewl…he knew her more intimately than anyone, and that was beyond terrifying.
So, maybe that was the sign that it needed to stop; before it moved well passed casual sex and straight into something neither of them was prepared for. It was why she thought Jeremy was a safer option.
"I don't know…" Elena's voice broke through her inner musings. "Something is different about him lately. He's so closed off." She swished her straw in her drink languidly.
"Maybe he flipped his switch." Caroline mumbled munching on a fry.
"He didn't." Bonnie answered immediately, before realizing she'd said it out loud. "I mean…I think it would be obvious." She backtracked.
"No, it's not that…" Elena continued. "He's making decisions about Stefan behind my back, and he's just been…secretive."
Caroline scoffed. "Well duh, it's Damon."
"I think he's seeing someone." She grumbled.
"Well, that's a good thing, right? You can finally get him to leave you alone." The blonde smiled, and they both seemed to be oblivious to the deer in headlights look on Bonnie's face.
"That's just it Care, I don't want him to leave me alone. It's wrong…but I care about him, and lately those feelings have been getting stronger." She admitted.
"Elena…" Bonnie drawled in caution. "What about Stefan?" There was an anxious knot building in her stomach and pulled on her insides.
He brunette dropped her head to the table. "I know! It's terrible! I love Stefan, but I don't know if he's ever coming back, and it's clear he doesn't want to. Maybe it's time I let him go." She finished miserably.
Bonnie frowned. "And what, move on with his brother?" She didn't mean for it to come out so snappy.
"Whoa. Jud-gy." The blonde uttered under her breath.
Bonnie swung her gaze to her and then back to Elena. "I'm not judging you. All I'm saying is, everything with Stefan is so fresh, give it some time." But what she was really saying was 'give me some time'. "And what if he is seeing someone?" Caroline eyed her curiously.
Elena shook her head. "If he is, it's not serious. Pretty sure she snuck out in the wee hours of the morning like some trashy one-night stand. And I know he's only flaunting it to hurt me…to get some kind of reaction out of me."
Bonnie resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the pretentious tone. It was always all about Elena. She forced a plastic smile to her face. "Well, it's not like he owes you anything, Elena. You made it clear that it was always going to be Stefan. It's not like you've done anything to make him think he has a chance."
"I kissed him." Elena blurted out. Both of her friends exclaimed a loud 'what!?' and it made her bury her face in her hands. "Two weeks ago. It was homecoming, and he was so mad that Stefan betrayed us…" Bonnie blinked, her lips pulling in a thin line as her friend continued unwittingly. "It happened before I could even stop it."
Bonnie stayed silent for the next ten minutes as Elena continued on and on, before she couldn't take it anymore. "Hey, um…I gotta go. Dad's home this weekend and I promised I'd spend some time with him." She grabbed her bag and rushed out, avoiding her friend's questioning stares.
…
Damon heard the door slam downstairs, and he knew it was Bonnie; probably back to finish the fight they started earlier, or maybe to make up…it didn't matter, he was there for it either way. Fighting with her was just as much of a turn on as the sex. He swung his legs off the bed, and put the book he was reading on the nightstand, but before he could cross the floor, Bonnie was already storming through the door of his room.
"Ooh…we're fighting." He smirked, seeing the fire in her eyes.
She canted her head crossing her arms and cocking her hip. "When were you going to tell me?"
Damon reeled back. He knew that look. This wasn't a sexy fight that would end in her ripping his clothes off. "Uh oh. What did I do?"
"Homecoming night?" she hinted raising an unimpressed brow. Realization hit him, and he closed his eyes. "Were you just going to keep that from me?"
"Bon…" Damon stepped forward but she backed away. "I didn't think it was worth mentioning."
"Why not? You thought it was better I find out from her?"
"No, of course not. But it was over before it even started." He tried to explain.
She scoffed. "Don't lie to me, Damon. Elena kissed you…it meant something. Are you telling me you didn't kiss her back?" He didn't respond and she turned to leave, but he sped up behind her slamming the door closed before she could reach it.
Bonnie spun around, realizing he was a lot closer than she expected. His palm was flat against the door and he looked down on her darkly. "What do you want from me, Bonnie, huh? You've been the one making all the rules – when I can see you, how far this goes, keeping this our dirty little secret. And I play along, because it's been fun, but you and I both know that the rules are changing." He whispered huskily.
"Nothing's changed. This is still what it always was." She said, trying to convince herself.
"Oh yeah?" Damon smirked, brushing a thumb over her lip. "Is that why you're shaking with jealousy right now? Cause I have to admit, little witch…" her eyes closed heavily as his words mumbled against the skin on her neck. "You made me a little jealous too. Pathetic, I know. Jealous of some stupid little kid that undoubtedly has no idea how to please you like I do."
Bonnie swallowed hard. He was definitely right about that. "Maybe I am jealous. But it doesn't change anything." Silence filled the air making it thick with tension. "We need to be more careful. Elena thinks you're seeing someone; she almost caught me the other day."
He smirked leaning in to kiss the full pout of her lips. "But isn't sneaking around half the fun?"
She couldn't help the smile. "Yes, but getting caught is the part that's less fun." There was a sliver of mischief in her eyes. "I'm not ready to stop this yet."
"Good…neither am I." He reached behind her and locked the door and her mouth cracked in sensual grin. He picked her up by the hips, turning and speeding them to his bed. Maybe it was a sexy fight after all.
