Lie To Me
Summary: AH – It was just supposed to be a summer fling…but it's hard to say goodbye when a fling turns into something more.
Song Inspiration: Lying – Cale Dodds
AN: I don't know what it is, but I'm on a country music roll here. Getting so many good ideas! I was listening to this one the other day, and I could just picture this playing out so here you go! This is just going to be a shorter drabble.
…
We weren't supposed to be there, parked on the beach where the sand felt more like an hour glass.
We were both pretending something wouldn't end, if we stayed there.
Right in the front of that, Pontiac, kicking back, driver's side, window cracked.
With the radio up.
Just the two of us, lying on the hood of my car, under the stars falling as hard as they were.
Didn't know we didn't mean it, swore we believed it.
Took it too far.
She said forever, I should've never let her out of these arms But the truth is we were just lying, lying on the hood of my car.
…
They didn't talk about what would happen after the night was over, or tomorrow or the day after that, all they thought about was tonight…this moment. When Damon met her two months ago, he never thought that he'd fall for her as hard as he did. He was supposed to be a summer fling and she was supposed to be the exciting adventure on his spontaneous cross country road trip.
But somewhere along the way, he felt himself dreading the end. Damon watched her with a smile; the sun-kissed glow of her skin, the beachy waves of her hair, the way her lips mouthed along with the words to the song playing on the radio as they both lay on the hood of his car, staring up at the sky like it held all the answers to questions they didn't want to ask. She was beautiful.
"Bonnie…" his voice rumbled, and she glanced at him with a sultry look in her eyes. "I'm glad I met you."
Her face lit up. "I'm glad I met you too." She turned her head back to the stars, but she could still feel his eyes on her. "I know what you're thinking…you want to know what happens next. If you'll ever see me again; what happens after tonight." She didn't have to look at him to know she was right because she'd been thinking the same thing. "I think we both know what the truth is." She whispered sadly.
Damon's eyes flitted over her face. "Then lie to me."
Bonnie's glance snapped back to him, swallowing thickly. She let out a deep breath as she sat up, and he followed her, pulling her to stand between his legs as his hands brushed the hair behind her ear. "We'll both go home. We'll talk every day, and we'll make plans to see each other whenever we have the time. We'll do the long distance until one day we won't have to…and we can start our lives together." She smiled down at him, but it didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Can't wait." He said, strain in his voice as he pulled her down for a long kiss. "Bonnie…"
She shook her head. "Don't say it…it's only going to make it harder to watch you leave. Tell me when I see you again." She whispered back, tears pooling in her eyes. "Okay?"
He dropped his head in resignation. "Okay." The words had been sitting on his tongue all night, and for the last few days. He wasn't sure she felt the same until he saw that broken hearted look in her eyes. How was this fair? He started this trip with no intention of staying anywhere long enough to make connections, but halfway through, in Jacksonville, Florida, he hit pause and got lost in everything that was Bonnie Bennett. She stole his heart the moment he saw her; dancing and singing along at a music festival in cut off jean shorts, crop top and a cowboy hat. That smile of hers lit him right up, and he couldn't leave without knowing her.
Damon didn't think that he'd fall in love with her as quickly as he did, and now he couldn't imagine trying to go back to his life without her in it. But their lives were 1800 miles away; she lived in Montana, and he was from Louisiana.
Bonnie could see the wheels turning in his head, and caressed his face to sooth his worry. "Come on…" she pulled him off the car, and led him through the sand in the hidden corner of the beach. As they walked, she held his gaze, shedding her top and shorts as she did, revealing to him the yellow bikini that complimented her skin tone. She bit her lip as his eyes ate her up, and she walked backwards slowly into the warm waters of Atlantic beach. He deftly removed his shirt and jeans, following her in and pulling her into his arms once they were fully submerged.
She wrapped her legs around his waist, and her arms around his neck, savoring their last day together. Her heart ached, and she rested her head on his shoulder as she said a silent goodbye. They took it too far…lying to themselves and each other that they could live in this little pocket of time forever. But reality crashed into them like the waves of the ocean they swam in and now they had to face it. Maybe they would see each other again…maybe not, but this would always go down as the summer of their lives.

AN: Hey Fam! Sorry for the long wait; life lol. I've also been working on a different kind of Bamon song fic for this collection that I'm fleshing out and it's taking a bit longer to put onto paper, so I thought I'd give you a lil somethin' somethin' to hold you over while I work on it. Sorry it's short, I just wanted to get you this cute little vignette. Thank you for all your reviews! I love you guys! - Vanessa
