Sometimes I can't help blaming you
For leaving me here, what am I supposed to do?
There's plenty of women, there's drink and there's drugs
But we both know that won't be enough

2024 – One Month Later:
Damon stood in the doorway of her room, feeling the air get sucked out of his lungs. She looked striking in the fitted emerald green gown; her hair pinned up, leaving her neck and shoulders bare. It was Founders Day, and after everything they'd been through, Damon convinced her that they could use the distraction. He chuckled to himself as he watched her struggle to do up her zipper, her hands fumbling behind her back.
"Need some help?" He asked, coming in, pulling his hands out of his pockets and stepping up behind her.
She glanced over her shoulder, then met his eyes in the mirror with a grateful smile. "Could you? It's embarrassing how long I've been failing at this." She joked at her own expense. Damon's eyes fell to her exposed back, finding the zipper deftly, and slowly zipping it up. When he was done, his fingers lingered longer than they should have, and with an exhale, he glanced up to the mirror again. Bonnie was already staring at him, but her eyes shifted when Damon's eyes met hers. "Thank you." She mumbled quietly.
Damon's lips pulled in a half smirk. "Well, you look stunning. You better not find your Prince Charming and abandon me tonight." He teased as he started, or more accurately, attempted to tie his bowtie over her shoulder.
She scoffed good-naturedly, turning around to face him, pushing his fumbling hands away and taking over. "I don't think I have a Prince Charming. If I do, I scared him off a long time ago. But," she shrugged, focusing on looping the satin fabric. "He's not my type anyway." Her green eyes darted up with a tiny quirk of her lips.
Damon chuckled. "I didn't think so." She pulled the bow, straightening it before patting his chest and smoothing out his lapels. "Bonnie…I need to tell you something." He started seriously grabbing her hands and holding them. "This last month has put some things into perspective for me. And I can't continue to feel guilty for feeling the way I feel…or wanting what I want."
"Damon…" She warned breathlessly. By the rise and fall of her chest she knew where this was going. "Please don't."
"Why not?" He asked passionately.
"Because once you say it, everything changes…and you won't be able to take it back." Her eyes were wide; adrenaline rising in her chest.
Damon eased, smiling as he caressed her cheek. "I don't want to take it back." He brought her hand to rest over his chest and she sucked in a deep breath. "You make my heart race. Sometimes I feel like it's going to beat right out of my chest." He breathed a nervous laugh. "It's kind of a scary feeling, but it makes me feel alive. Bonnie…I'm in love with you." He waited, holding his breath as his words shocked her into silence.
The look on her face was so conflicted; a cross between elation and heartbreak. "Why did you say that?" she whispered painfully. Her tone wasn't accusatory or disappointed…she was simply torn.
She tried to remove her hands from him, but he held her fast. "Because it's time that we both stop lying to ourselves about what's happening between us." His eyes darted between hers, trying to read them.
Bonnie glanced down. "We can't…what about Elena?" He'd never heard her sound so insecure in his life, and it broke his heart.
Tipping her chin up, Damon met her gaze again. "I don't want to love a ghost forever…" He repeated her words back to her. "What do you want?"
Bonnie argued with herself internally, her heart pounding in her chest. Suddenly, throwing caution to the wind, she wrapped her hand around his neck and leaned up to kiss him. It started slow and intimate, setting off fireworks for both of them, and when her tongue met his, he groaned, pulling her closer and lifting her off her feet effortlessly. Her hands tunneled through his hair, deepening the kiss, before breaking for air. Damon took the opportunity to lower his lips to her jaw, and neck, moving them to the bed and slowly laying her down. Staring up at him, her chest heaved enticingly in the snug bodice of the dress, and her kiss-stung lips parted lusciously. At an agonizingly slow pace, Damon one by one pulled the pins holding her hair in place out, watching as it cascaded in loose, silky waves over her shoulders.
Licking her lips, Bonnie could still taste him, and her trembling fingers reached up to slowly undo the bowtie, letting it fall. Her hands ran up his chest, before undoing each button, maintaining eye contact the whole time. Damon's whole body was quivering; it was like it was his first time all over again. He leaned back as she sat up, pushing the shirt off his shoulders to join his tie, and then his hands were coasting over her bare shoulders, down her back to her zipper, lowering it slowly. Bonnie leaned back on her hands, tilting her hips for him to tug the dress off her lithe body. He did so with patience, appreciating every curve from her supple, and full breasts to the smooth expanse of her toned waist. He kissed his way back up her legs, caressing every inch of her until he reached her belly, nuzzling it and trailing his nose up between the valley of her breasts.
She was panting, squirming under his gentle worship of her body. "Damon…" she pleaded.
He looked up at her, a boyish smile on his face, before her wrapped his lips around a dusty brown nipple, moaning around it as she whimpered for him. She could feel him hard against the inside of her thigh, and her hips pitched up seeking the friction. "Fuck, Bonnie…" he hissed dropping his forehead to her shoulder. "What are you doing to me?" he whispered, his lips soft against her skin.
"I need to feel you." Her hands traveled down to his buckle, but he pulled back standing at the foot of her bed. She was a vision; clad in only a lacy white thong, cheeks flushed, hair sexily mussed, one toned leg extended and the other bent at the knee, creating a picturesque masterpiece that he wanted to burn into his memory forever.
"You're so beautiful." He grinned when she blushed, sitting up on her elbows. He loosened his belt, shedding his pants and briefs with more control than he felt, and the grin turned into a smirk when her eyes ate him up. His length bobbed against his stomach, making her mouth run dry and instinctively, her legs fell open to receive him. Kneeing in front of her, he grabbed the sides of her panties, dragging them down her legs until she was bare before him. She watched him as he dragged a finger down her slit, letting her head fall back with a moan as he repeated the motion. "Oh my God, Bonnie." He praised her in awe at how wet she was for him. Then he traced his tongue along her lips before burying his head between her legs.
Her arms lost the ability to hold herself up, and she collapsed to the bed, holding his head gently as he made love to her with his mouth. He tore moans and whimpers from her that she'd never made before, left her panting in a fevered pitch as he drove her to climax. He took his time, licking her softly and working her back up with little time for her to recover, until she gripped his hair, and pulled him up, crashing her mouth against his and tasting her essence on his tongue. He'd never been more turned on in his life. "I can't wait anymore." She mumbled against his lips.
Resting his forehead against hers, Damon swallowed letting his eyes fall closed as he glided the tip against her opening. He teased her with it, drawing out shuddering gasps from her until he leisurely sunk into her heated core. His mouth fell open as he looked down at her, she was the picture of bliss; hands gripping the pillow beside her, pupils blown out with lust, back arched and her neck stretched deliciously. If he were still a vampire, she would look like a sinful dessert. Damon ran his finger tips over her lips and down her chest, and her body moved with it, seeking his touch.
"Oh God…" she keened when he pulled out and pushed back in creating a deep, fluid rhythm with every roll of his hips. Sex had never felt this way for her, like she was constantly teetering on the precipice. They had barely started and already she was barreling towards release.
He postured up on one arm, brushing her hair from her face. "Bonnie…look at me." When she did, he thrust in harder, making her gasp in pleasure, but she didn't look away, instead, her hands ran up his arms, bracing on him as she matched his thrusts. The room filled with the sounds of their pleasure; both of their bodies covered in a sheen of sweat. Then, with a hungry and lusty glint in her eyes, she pushed him back on his haunches, and mounted him, his cock never leaving her. Changing the rhythm, Bonnie rode him with a wild abandonment that had him groaning out with amazement. Her arms shot backwards on the bed as she leaned back, changing the angle that had them both crying out.
His large hands splayed out across her back, holding her as he bucked up. Her moans increased in crescendo, and if the tight squeeze around him was any indication, she was close to her release. Pulling her back up, Damon wrapped her arms around his neck, and held her hips, rocking them against him as she dropped her forehead to his. She shuddered her release with a silent 'O' of her lips, staring right at him, and he followed her over. He held her close, kissing her shoulders and clavicle, nuzzling her neck and her cheek affectionately. He'd never felt more connected to someone in his whole life. It was truly a magically experience for him.
Bonnie's fingers threaded through his hair, lightly scratching as she panted, trying to catch her breath. "Wow…" she breathed before they both burst out in a giddy, post coital giggle. He pulled back to look up at her, and his eyes roved over her face affectionately, his fingertips following suit. Her hands came up to hold his face, stealing another kiss from his pouting lips. "I'm in love with you too, Damon. For the longest time I was terrified about what that meant. If it made me a horrible friend, or a selfish person, but…" Tears pooled in her eyes as she forced the words out. "I'm tired of doing what's right for everyone else but me. I want my happiness…with you."
Damon graced her with a euphoric smile leaning up to kiss her again. "I'll give you everything you want. Just say the word." Her eyes darkened, and she squeezed around him, making him raise his brows. "Again?" She nodded slowly with an impish smile, rocking her hips. "Well, I guess we aren't going to Founder's Day." He joked making her scrunch her nose with a shake of her head. Then she slid off of him, rolling off the side of the bed crooking her finger at him to follow. He sauntering over like a panther in the grass, to stand before her. "Where are we going?"
"Your room…" she leaned up whispering in his ear cheekily. "I want you to fuck me in your bed."
Damon growled, picking her up and throwing her over his shoulder, chuckling at her squeal and slapping her ass as he carried her away. "Where the hell has this Bonnie been all my life?"
…
2024 – Two Months Later:
"So…" Bonnie dabbed her mouth with the napkin as she placed her fork down. They had invited Caroline and Ric over for dinner to break the news. Up until now, they were both content to keep their relationship to themselves, and spend this time getting completely lost in each other…and between the sheets. "Damon and I have some news." She glanced at him, and he nodded in encouragement. She swallowed, when she had their attention. "We are…" She trailed off, unsure of how to even describe it. They weren't dating; it was well passed that. Seeing each other sounded too casual. Damn it. It sure would have helped if they did a practice run first.
"Bonnie finally succumbed to my devilish charms, and fell madly in love with me." He teased, taking a playful slap from her. Damon grabbed her hand bringing to his lips gracing her with a happy smile. "And I'm pretty in love with her too." He didn't even care how sappy he sounded, because that's what Bonnie did to him.
"Finally!" Caroline exclaimed throwing up her arms and sighing in relief. "God, I was starting to think you were going to take it to the grave!"
Bonnie blinked; her brows arched high on her forehead. "What?"
Caroline laughed. "Well, come on Bonnie, you didn't actually think you two were doing a good job at keep it from us, did you? I'm a vampire, first of all." She tapped her nose, causing Ric and Bonnie to cringe, but Damon just chuckled to himself. "I sniffed you guys out months ago, and second…you are my best friends! Like I wouldn't notice!"
Bonnie bit down on her lip. "Are you mad?"
The blonde rolled her eyes. "No, of course not! Bonnie, all I want is for you to be happy. And if that's with Damon, then no one will fault you for it…including Elena." A grateful sigh took the weight off Bonnie's shoulders and she knew that was what she truly needed the approval for. The 'Elena Dilemma' as Bonnie and Damon had dubbed it, had been a giant elephant in the room for the past two months as they navigated this new relationship. It brought up several different scenarios and what ifs that Bonnie had until Damon had to pull the proverbial plug on it all together.
.
"She isn't here, Bon…" he reminded her gently, kissing her bare shoulder as they stood in front of the steamy mirror of his bathroom, both wrapped in towels.
"I know…" Bonnie's eyes dropped to her hands as she moisturized them. "But what happens when she comes back?"
He let out a tumultuous sigh. "I don't really want to think about what happens when she comes back, because that means I lose you, and that…is more than I can handle right now." He kissed her neck adoringly, lingering. Bonnie offered him a weak smile, reaching up and touching his face behind her. "By any stroke of luck, I'll die first and I won't have to worry about it at all." He joked with a half-hearted shrug.
"Don't even joke about that." She poked a finger into his bare chest, spinning around to face him. "I don't even want to thinkabout my life without you in it." Her hands perched on his chest, as her thoughts took her away again. "What if she wakes up, Damon? What if, I don't know, Kai's spell breaks or I figure out a loophole?" These were the thoughts that kept her up at night. "What happens if she wakes up…and I'm still here?"
"Baby…it wouldn't change anything between us. Elena's my past…you are my future." She started to interject but he put a finger to her lips. "No more Elena talk, okay? I'm finding it very awkward to talk about my ex-girlfriend while my current girlfriend is standing in front of me naked." He said with a raise of his brows.
Bonnie chuckled. "I'm not naked."
Damon's fingers tugged at the towel, and it fell to the floor in a pile. "Now you are." He ran his hands over her curves. "Whoops."
"Cute." She commented, hopping up on the counter and spreading her legs invitingly. "So, what are you going to do about it?"
Damon dropped down to his knees before her with a sexy smirk. He could spend hours pleasing her this way.
.
"Well, good!" Caroline exclaimed. "Now that that's out in the open, when's the wedding?"
"Caroline!" Bonnie chastised with embarrassment, shielding her blush from Damon who seemed more amused than anything.
"Relax! I'm joking!" She laughed. "But if that day every comes, I am going to plan the shit out of it." Her eyes lit up like Christmas.
Damon smirked. "I wouldn't expect anything less."
…
2025 – A Year and a Half Later:
Bonnie stared down at the piece of plastic in her hand in shock. They had been careful, she thought. They hadn't even talked about this yet! She wrapped it carefully and tucked it to the bottom of the trash can before releasing a shaky breath and leaving the bathroom.
As she was coming down the stairs, she heard the front door open and shut. "Bon! I got good news!" She met him at the bottom of the stairs and he kissed her soundly. "We are officially the proud owners of the new and improved 'Mystic Grill'. I signed the last of the paperwork this morning. Who knew driving a car through a building would take years to repair." He joked.
Bonnie forced a smile to her face. "That's great!" It had been his plan for the last couple years to fully renovate the Grill and buy it, but the red tape he had to cut through was painstakingly thorough considering the amount of damage. She followed him into the parlor room as he shed his coat and explained everything with excitement.
"The next few months are going to be crazy, with hiring staff and ordering inventory and planning the menu but it's all going to be worth it when we can finally open." He grinned pouring them both a glass of champagne that he picked up on the way home. "Come on, let's celebrate."
She looked at the glass anxiously. "Um…actually, I'm not really feeling that great today. I'll pass on the champagne, but I'm so happy for you, Damon." She wrapped her arms around him, kissing his shoulder. "I know how badly you've wanted this."
"Thanks, babe…" He watched as she stepped back, nervously wiping her palms on her jeans and running her fingers through her hair. "Are you okay? You've been off all week." He asked with concern, feeling her forehead. "You're not coming down with something, are you?"
"Damon, I need to tell you something…and I don't know how you're going to take it." She gnawed on her lower lip.
He frowned. "Okay…now I'm worried. Bon, what's going on?"
She grabbed his hands and pulled them down to sit on the sofa. "Okay…" she huffed a nervous laugh. "Wow, this is harder than I thought it would be, um okay…" she sucked in a deep breath. "I'm pregnant." She waited, terrified of his reaction. He was silent, and she continued in a ramble. "I know that we haven't actually talked about this yet, and we haven't even been together that long so I'll completely understand if you aren't ready for this and-"
Damon was chuckling as each sentence ran into the other. "Bonnie…relax."
"How are you so calm right now, because I am freaking out!" she exclaimed with wide eyes.
"Because this doesn't scare me…in fact, I'm looking forward to it." The excitement glinted in his eyes.
She was in awe of him. She was so sure this was going to send him into a tailspin – too much too soon, but he was as cool as a cucumber. "You are?"
"Yes." He placed his palm on her flat belly, staring down at it with a wistful smile. "When I said you were my future, this is what I meant. Yeah, it happened a little sooner than we expected, but life isn't meant to be scheduled."
Bonnie leaned forward, kissing him and holding a hand to his. "I love you."
"I love you too." Damon pulled back, holding up a finger. "Wait right here. Close your eyes." He said as he stood.
She glanced back at him as he left the room. "Damon!" Where the hell was he going?
"Close them!" He yelled back over his shoulder. With a little huff, Bonnie shut her eyes, waiting impatiently for him to return. She felt him sit back down on the couch beside her a few minutes later. "Okay…open."
When she did, there was a letter in her lap with her father's name scrolled across it in perfect penmanship. She glanced up at him confused.
"Read it." He told her gently with an encouraging smile.
She unfolded it nervously and read the letter.
Dear Rudy,
I wish you could have been here to see the beautiful woman your daughter has grown into; she is a force to be reckoned with, and I'm a lucky man to have her in my life. She's brought light to my world, and I'd want nothing more than to ask you for her hand, and spend the rest of my days making her happy.
Her head shot up before she could even finish the letter; tears pooled in her eyes as she realized what this was. He was holding a box; a small antique box, adorned with intricate details carved into the dark polished wood. And in the box sat the most beautiful ring she's ever seen. It was a large, pear-shaped sapphire with a dainty halo of diamonds surrounding it set in solid gold. She could tell by the setting that it was an heirloom, but it was a timeless piece of art. "Damon…" she breathed, stunned by its beauty.
He swallowed. "It was my mother's and before that my grandmother's. Now it's yours." She glanced back up at him in disbelief. "Marry me, Bonnie. Be my wife, have my child…let's start our future right now." He declared passionately.
"Yes!" Bonnie exclaimed as Damon grinned, slipping the ring on her trembling finger. "Oh, it's beautiful. I love it." Her face crumbled, as she burst into tears staring down at it on her slim finger. It was a perfect fit. "I'm sorry! I've just been super emotional lately."
Damon laughed happily pulling her closer and wiping the tears from her cheeks. "It's okay. We're going to have a baby."
"We're getting married! Oh my God, Caroline is going to freak out." Bonnie stated.
"She already knows. I had to get the best friend seal of approval too." He brought her ringed hand to his lips, kissing her knuckles tenderly.
Bonnie stared at him with unbridled love in her eyes. "I'm the lucky one."
…
2026 – Seven Months Later:
"You're glowing, sweetheart." Damon came up behind her in the mirror, snaking his arms around her waist and resting his hands on her full belly. It was the grand opening of the Grill, and she had been trying on half her closet looking for an outfit. She had finally settled on a fitted knit dusty rose dress that fell to her knees and accentuated her full breasts and curves.
"I'm ginormous." She grumbled.
He smiled indulgently. The last couple months have been a struggle for her tiny body, but Damon made sure to reassure his wife in any way he could. "Our daughter's in here…for a hundred seventy-eight years I didn't even think this was a possibility. You brought me a miracle…and I've never seen you look more beautiful."
"Ugh, I hate it when you say things like that." She narrowed her eyes at him playfully in the mirror. "You make it impossible to be mad at you for putting my body through this."
Damon laughed kissing her cheek. "Well, I'm sure after the first one you'll get used to it." He patted her ass gently and headed to the dresser to put on his watch.
Bonnie spun around to glare at him with Incredulity. "Excuse me? First one?"
"Yeah." He shrugged. "We have to have at least two."
Her eyes widened. "At least?" Here she was just trying to get through the first pregnancy, and Damon was already thinking about the second and the third?!
He turned back to her with that sly smirk of his. "Well, yeah…so they can keep each other busy while we sneak off for some one-on-one time." He wagged his brows at her suggestively. "I always wanted a big family…"
She could see the longing on his face as he stared off in thought, and she softened, crossing over to him and resting her hands on his chest. "And I want to give you that."
"Yeah?" Damon's lips cracked in a bright grin; the one that would turn her insides to mush.
"If it makes you smile like that…I'll birth a whole tribe of baby Salvatores." She teased. "Now let's go before I change my mind again about this dress."
…
2044 – Present Day:
Matt rang the doorbell and waited beside Elena for someone to open the door. A young blonde, in her early thirties answered the door, eyes red and tears dried on her cheeks.
"Hey sweetheart." Matt said giving her a tight hug.
"Hey Uncle Matt. Thanks for coming." Her eyes landed on Elena with a weak smile. "It's nice to finally meet you, Elena. I'm Lizzie." She let them in, and closed the door behind them. "I'll get my mom."
Elena's nerves were tightening in her chest, and she let out a shaky exhale. When Caroline rounded the corner from the kitchen, Elena found herself immediately engulfed in her arms. "I missed you so much." The vampire cried, holding her close.
The brunette squeezed her eyes closed against the tears. "I missed you too, Care."
A half hour later, Caroline and Elena sat at the kitchen table, as the blonde filled her in on the last twenty-five years.
"What happened to her, Care? It's too soon, she should have had more time." Elena whispered sadly.
Caroline let out a sigh, glancing down at the table, carefully picking her words. "It's a long story, but there was a vampire that had it out for her daughter, Bailey. She was home alone, with the boys and she tried to handle it on her own but…" Caroline swallowed. "He was old, and strong. Thankfully they made it back in time and Bonnie saved her but…" She swiped at a tear that fell.
"Oh my God…that's terrible. She had children?" Elena asked hopefully.
Caroline smiled. "Mhm. Three. They're upstairs…Bailey is taking it really hard. She thinks it's her fault. She won't even come out." She finished forlornly.
"Where's their dad?"
The blonde blinked, before she shot out of her seat, ignoring her question. "Oh, before I forget." She moved to the island and grabbed the books stacked there, placing them in front of Elena. "You wanted us to write it all down…so there it is. That's mine and Matt's…I think Damon has Bonnie's." It was the first time his name came up, and Caroline held her breath, knowing what was coming.
"Where is Damon?"
"He just needed some time. He'll be here tomorrow morning." She answered vaguely.
"How is he? I know they got close before…" She trailed off. "Is he okay?" Elena asked in concern.
Caroline shook her head sadly. "Not really. Look Elena, a lot has happened. Damon's human…he's not the man you remember. You need to prepare yourself for that." She explained gently, with a sympathetic slant of her brows.
The shock washed over Elena's face, and she felt a wave of nausea at the thought. "What happened, Caroline?"
"You should read the journals." She came around squeezing Elena's shoulder and kissing her on the cheek. "I'm going to check on the kids. I'll make up the guest room for you. It's good to have you back Elena."
The brunette could tell that it was bittersweet for her friends; of course, they missed her, but they also just lost someone dear to them. Pulling the books closer to her, Elena started with Matt's, flipping to the first page.
It was hours later when she heard someone shuffle into the kitchen in the middle of the night. "Oh…" he mumbled. "I didn't think anyone else was up."
Elena took him in; a head full of tight curls, green eyes and mocha skin. He must have been about fourteen, but by his frame and build he was an athlete. "I couldn't sleep. Wow…you look just like her."
He nodded sadly. "I get that a lot. My sister is a spitting image of my dad. You're my mom's friend, right? The one in the mystical coma or whatever?"
"Yeah…I'm Elena."
"Stefan." He responded plainly.
Elena felt the colour drain from her face and a sick feeling washed over her again. "Your parents named you Stefan?" her words came out in a strained whisper.
"Yeah…after my dad's brother."
Her heart plummeted to her feet and tears pooled in her eyes. "Your dad is Damon Salvatore…?"
He winced. "Did you not know that?"
She shook her head, but forced a smile. "Well, it was nice meeting you, Stefan." Standing, Elena collected the journals into her arms, gripping them tightly. "I'm suddenly feeling very tired. Goodnight." She added softly as she passed him and rushed up the stairs.
…
"How could you not tell me Caroline?" Elena hissed to her friend the next morning in the privacy of her guest room.
"I'm sorry, but it wasn't my story to tell. Bonnie wanted you to hear it from her." Caroline tried to justify. "Her journals explain everything. 'Lena, you have to know that this wasn't an easy decision for either of them. They fought it for years because they didn't want to betray you. But somewhere along the way, they fell in love…"
Elena plopped on the bed, dropping her head in her hands. "It's silly of me to expect that we could just pick up where we left off. I wanted him to be happy…"
Caroline sat down next to her, running a hand soothingly on her back. "And they were. Look, I know it's a lot to take in; the last thing you remember was being the love of his life. But it's been twenty-five years, Elena…he had to move on with his life. Try not to hold it against him, okay?"
Lifting her head, Elena sniffled, wiping away her tears with a little nod. Caroline left her room, and she fell back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling until she fell back asleep in exhaustion.
She woke to the knocking coming from the hallway, and a very familiar voice on the other side of the door.
"Bailey…honey, open the door please." Elena sat up abruptly, padding quietly to her closed door and listening. He sounded tired; his voice gravelly and hollow.
"Please, just leave me alone, dad." Came her tearful response.
Elena cracked the door open, to see him resting his forehead against the door of his daughter's room. His usually raven colored locks were sprinkled with silver strands and he had the beginning of a beard, an indication that he hadn't shaved in a few days.
"It's time to go home. Your brothers are downstairs waiting." She didn't answer. "Bailey please…we don't have to do this alone, remember?" He pleaded gently.
The door opened a second later, and Bailey stepped out. And her brother was right, she was every bit her dad. Bright blue eyes against her mocha skin, dark black hair that fell in perfect ringlets, high cheekbones and full pouty lips. She was tall, only a few inches shorter than him, and the look on her face was one she was very familiar with. Mask firmly in place, but emotions just underneath the surface reflecting in her eyes. She slipped passed him and rushed down the stairs, leaving Damon standing alone in the hallway.
He closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh, and when he opened his eyes, they met hers. Stepping out of the room, Elena wrapped her arms around herself. "Hi Damon."
He swallowed painfully. "Hi Elena."
"You're a father now." She commented, a wobble in her voice. "She's beautiful."
"Thank you. Look, I know you probably have a lot of questions, but I just lost my wife; my kids just lost their mother…I have to make sure they're okay." He told her, hoping she'd understand.
Elena nodded, glancing down at her feet. "Yeah, of course."
He offered a meek, grateful smile. "Abby is coming over tomorrow…she's going to take the boys for the day. Maybe you can come by the house…we can talk?"
"Sure." Damon came forward hesitantly, giving her a hug that she melted into, breathing him in.
He pulled away too soon for her, and gave her one last nod before heading back downstairs.
…
AN: We are going to get into some more detail about what happened to Bonnie, and more family flashbacks in the next chapter. I also wanted to add that I got the inspiration of Damn's proposal from my friend, who wrote a letter to his girlfriend's late father for his permission to marry her. I thought it was so sweet, I just had to use it!
Have a great weekend everyone! Please let me know what you think! - Vanessa
