I Had to Know You - Part V

Meet me in the silence, I'll let you cut me open
Help me from the inside out, slow motion

Bonnie silently padded around the dark bedroom, collecting her clothes and getting dressed. She kept a close eye on him, laying on his stomach, face smooshed into his pillow, an adorable pout on his full lips. She smiled to herself before looking around trying to find her shoes.

"Where do you think you're going?" His deep sleepy voice rumbled as he pushed up onto his elbows.

Bonnie's head snapped up, but she shot him an easy smile. "Home. I have to be at work for seven."

Damon squinted at the clock on his nightstand. 5:05AM. "Then that means you have…an hour and half before you have to leave."

She chuckled as he reached for her, pulling on her arm until she stumbled back into the bed beside him. "Well, I can't really show up looking like this, can I?" She countered looking down at him.

Damon reached up, cradling her face with one hand. Her hair wild and mussed, framing her face beautifully, and her cheeks were still flushed. "Why not? I think you look thoroughly ravaged." He drawled with a lazy smirk.

Bonnie let out a breathy laugh, leaning down to kiss him, moaning when his fingers tightened in the hair at the back of her neck. "Ain't that the truth." She mumbled against his lips. "But I still have to go." She finished reluctantly.

As she started to peel herself away from him, Damon tugged on her arm again before she could get too far. "We're good, right?" He asked seriously, a part of him needing to know that this wasn't the biggest mistake of her life as she had put it.

A giddy giggle bubbled out. "Oh we're good. We're really good."

"So that means we're gonna do that again?" He asked teasingly, still reluctant to let her go.

She nodded. "Oh yeah." They shared big smile, before she kissed him hard one more time, slipping free of him before she changed her mind.

Bonnie was in the doorway when he called out the her. "Missing something?" When she spun to face him, Damon was sat up in bed holding up her hot pink lace thong between his fingers.

She didn't know what came over her, but a smirk pulled on her lips. "Keep 'em." She slinged out of the room with a wink, chuckling when she left him stunned.

Damon shook his head in disbelief as he heard the door click closed behind her. Did that just happen? His ran a hand over his face still humming from last night. Everything happened so fast, he barely had time to put a thought together. She surprised him. He thought for sure she would change her mind; call him with a guilty apology, say that it was all too much and she couldn't do this. But she didn't. Instead of holding back, Bonnie gave into it completely and it was the most connected he'd felt to someone in a long time. Things changed last night, and he knew he could just settle for friendship after this. He had to have her, fully.

However, it couldn't have come at a worse time. His relationship with Katherine was complicated to say the least, but how could he tell her now after avoiding it for so long? He was grateful she didn't ask, and surprised that it never came up, but he hadn't exactly been forthcoming about it either. He had no idea the day he met her it would ever go this far, and by the time it had, he couldn't risk it. He knew it was in Katherine's best interest to stay out of it, she didn't want a scandal any more than he did, but she has been known to play with her food, and there was no doubt she would have fun knowing about his recent friendship with Bonnie.

His only saving grace was that she had no reason to believe it had moved past playful flirting. And Damon had no intention of her finding out.

Bonnie kept a quick pace as she rushed from the elevators to her desk. She felt like she was taking a ride in someone else's life. Someone who could have the best sex of her life with a man that wasn't her boyfriend and still have the audacity to act like everything hadn't changed. She still read the courthouse dockets on the train ride in, she still stopped and asked Norm a crossword clue, and she still hummed along to the song in the elevator. She could have felt guilty, but she didn't, in fact…she never felt better.

She was already settled at her desk, checking emails when her phone buzzed with a text. She didn't have to look to know who it was, and she bit back a smile when her eyes darted over to confirm it.

How am I supposed to concentrate

in court today after that?

What's the saying?

Picture yourself naked? lol

Not helping…

Bonnie bit down on her lip, her fingers pausing on the screen.

What about picturing me naked?

Well I've been doing that since

you left this morning ;)

Speaking of…

When can I see you again?

She thought about it. She didn't have any commitments. And Jeremy wasn't due home for a week…

What about tonight?

Just tell me when and where.

6pm? Your place?

Can't wait

"What's got you all smiley?" Bonnie's head shot up from her phone to see her boss standing in the doorway of her office. Dainty heels clicked as they cross from the door to her desk.

"Oh…" Bonnie turned her screen off and tucked it in her desk drawer. "Just Jeremy." When did I become so good at lying? "I thought you were going to that Summit in Connecticut." She deflected.

"I am, but I'd thought I'd come in and take care of a few things first. I have to run down to the DA's office with the new evidence in the Battersby case." Katherine explained holding up an envelope with a look of disdain.

"I can do it." Bonnie said too eagerly, before back peddling. "I'm heading that way anyway."

Katherine shrugged, careful to hide the smirk pulling her lips. "Sure." She punctuated, dropping the envelope on the desk. "Thanks!" She added with a smile. Bonnie looked down at the name it was addressed to, and her reaction must have been noticeable because her boss canted her head. "Know him?"

"Uh, yeah." She ripped her eyes away to glance up at the woman across from her. "Yeah, I've run into him once or twice." She laughed it off breezily. And wild sex last night…and this morning.

Kat hummed quietly to herself. "Small world, right?" she shot her a smile before remembering what she came in for. "Oh, before I forget; the Mikaelson's are hosting a gathering at the Estate in Southhampton. It's…an excusive event. Only partners are attending or those that have potential to be." She offered Bonnie a proud smile when her eyes widened. "Don't act like you didn't earn it. Nothing is set in stone, but you are one of the top prospects. You got Niklaus' attention with the Mcculloch win. He was impressed. Keep it up."

Bonnie grinned. "Thanks Katherine." She placed her hand over the envelope. "I'll get this over once he's back from court." It came out of her mouth before she could stop it.

The taller woman arched a brow. "How did you know he was in court today?"

"I checked the dockets this morning." Well, it wasn't a complete lie. She had, as she always did, but it was only because she already knew he'd be on there. She'd spotted the note on his fridge calendar when she ventured off to get water. Kat gave her an amused stare at her keenness. "I like to know what's going on." she defended meekly.

"And that's why I like you, Bonnie. We're very similar, you and I." A sly smirk pulled on her lips. "We have the same taste." The innuendo went over Bonnie's head when she only smiled in response. "You'll get a letter in the mail with the date and time. You'll need an escort." She playfully rolled her eyes. "It's all very extravagant and a little obnoxious but once you're in, you're in." Katherine leaned in conspiringly. "And trust me…you want to be in."

Bonnie was elated. All her hard work was paying off. The potential to make partner; even a junior partner would be a huge opportunity. "Thank you…I won't let you down." She vowed confidently.

"I hope not, 'cause I don't stick my neck out for just anyone." Katherine backed out with a wink, turning to strut out of the office.

Bonnie took a moment to muse about her future here, and all the late nights and early mornings and sacrifices along the way was all leading to this.

She waited until noon before she collected her things and hailed a cab across town.

It had been a rough start to the opening day of his prosecution, and he tugged on his tie, loosing it as he pushed open the door to his office. He closed it behind him, seeing his chair facing the window, and occupied. When it spun slowly, the look of confusion shifted into a sly smirk. He caught a glimpse of her sun kissed legs as she crossed them under his desk. "Well I certainly wasn't expecting this. Hello…" He drawled sauntering towards her, looking at her appreciatively.

"Hi…" She drawled back in sultry tone, swallowing thickly when sat on the corner of his desk, towering over her. "I thought I'd surprise you."

His finger came up to brush a loose curl over her shoulder, exposing her enticing décolletage. "I'm very surprised. Couldn't wait for tonight?" He teased, with a crooked smirk.

"Yes." She answered quickly before back peddling with a nervous laugh. "Well, yes, but also I brought you something." She gestured to the envelope on his desk.

He frowned. "This doesn't look like a sexy something."

Bonnie chuckled, getting to her feet and walking around to stand in front of him trailing her fingertips along the perimeter of the desk. "My boss asked me to bring it down. Something about the Battersby case?"

Damon's brow deepened. That case closed months ago. "Hm…" curiosity got the better of him, and he ripped open the top, pulling up a thin stack of papers. It took him seconds to realize what this was, and he tucked them back away strategically away from Bonnie, and tossed it back on his desk, forcing down the huff that rose in his chest. "Thanks."

She eyed him. "Everything okay?"

Recovering quickly, Damon graced her with a charming smile. "Yeah…" he pulled her closer, so she was standing between his legs. "Yeah, I'm good." Bonnie glanced back over her shoulder. "Don't worry, no one can see in here. Frosted windows." He nuzzled his nose into her neck, groaning in approval. "You smell amazing."

Bonnie's hands landed on his shoulders to steady herself as his continued to explore over her hips and back. "Should we really be doing this here?" She panted, her eyes closing in bliss, when his lips kissed her collarbone, down the valley of her breasts.

His eyes darted up seductively. "Why not?"

She swallowed. "Anyone can just walk in."

"That's half the fun." He teased, sneaking his fingers under her skirt to hook into her panties.

Nearly thirty minutes later, Bonnie smoothed her skirt back down, hopping off the desk as Damon did up his belt. Their coupling was desperate and primal this time, fueled by the possibility of being caught. Damon's hand covering her mouth her moans rising, threatened to cry out her release as he rammed into her and it only made her squeeze him tighter.

Damon smiled when she glanced up at him with a bashful smile of her own. She just let him fuck her into his desk and she still had the virtue to blush. "Well…that's a first."

Bonnie shot him a look of disbelief. "Yeah right." She scoffed, suddenly feeling a pang of jealousy for any other woman who had the privilege of experiencing sex with this man. "What about your sordid affairs?" she gestured to the couch.

Damon chuckled, bowing his head as he tucked his shirt back in. "Scouts honor. Somehow, I seem to lose all sense of reason around you." He admitted unashamed.

It sobered Bonnie up, and she took a moment to think, biting down on her lip. "Damon…you know what this is…right?" she asked hesitantly. "Whatever is going on between us…I think it's best if we keep it simple." His brows knitted together, and she continued. "Just sex. No expectations, no emotions just…two people taking what they need from each other."

His jaw tightened, but he was quick to hide it. A few months ago, this would have been the kind of arrangement he'd throw himself head first into. But with Bonnie it sounded like a dagger through the chest. He wanted her. All of her, messy emotions and all. "Okay…" he conceded with a defeated smile. "Sure." He'd take what he could get.

She let out a breath of relief, brushing her hair behind her ears. "Great…" It's better this way. She told herself. It's bad enough you let it get this far. "I should probably get going…" she added reluctantly.

Damon artfully masked the blow to his pride, and crossed the floor to her, slipping both hands under her hair to cradle her neck. If he could only have her physically, then he'd be damned if he didn't make her feel it. He kissed her passionately, feeling her melt into him and moan into his mouth, sucking her bottom lip into his mouth before pulling away. "Have a good day, Bonnie." He whispered in a rough timbering tone.

She blinked her lust blown eyes open. "I'll see you tonight?"

"Of course." He smirked. "Maybe I'll have a little surprise for you too."

Bonnie visibly shivered in anticipation. "Can't wait." She slipped out of his arms, and slinked out the door with one last look.

Once Damon was alone, he ran a hand over his face. He nearly forgot about the 'package' he received. He moved back to his desk, slipping into his chair and dialed Katherine.

"Katherine Pierce." She greeted in a pleasant tone, knowing full well the number that was calling her.

"What the hell is this, Kat?" Damon demanded, skipping the pleasantries.

"I'm not sure what you're talking about." She stated, inspecting her nails.

"Bullshit. I'm looking at a stack of nonsense documents for a case we closed months ago. Why?" She was silent. "You sneaky little bitch…is this another one of your games? You send her down here just to watch me squirm?"

"Hey, she offered!" She heard Damon's huff of annoyance. "Okay, so I may have manipulated her into doing it, but what can I say…I was curious. I wanted to see how she reacted. I obviously got to you…" she chuckled to herself.

Damon's hand balled into a fist. "Leave Bonnie out of this, okay?"

She scoffed. "I didn't bring her into this, Damon…you did. What did you think was going to happen? That you could avoid the inevitable? That she'd never find out about us? About what we're doing? It's all going to come out some time. The only question is, are you going to be the one to tell her or are you going to let her find out on her own?" The phone clicked dead, and Damon slammed the phone back down.

He couldn't tell her…she wouldn't understand, and it would be over before it even started.

Four Days Later:

"You don't have to go, you know." Damon watched her from bed, as she redressed unabashedly.

"I know…" her eyes met his. "But I should." This had been their routine every day so far this week, but she knew that in two days, Jeremy would be home, and it was best she didn't tempt herself by getting used to spending the night.

"Bon…" The seriousness in his tone made her nervous. "You know, we never talked about where Jeremy fits into all of this." She averted her eyes. She knew it was only a matter of time before he was brought up. They had been carefully skirting around the subject since Monday.

Letting her shoulders fall, Bonnie came back around the bed, and sat down on the edge, her fingers tracing the trail of hair under his belly button absentmindedly. "Can we not talk about Jeremy, please? When I'm here…it's just us. I don't want to think about anything else…okay?"

He grabbed her hand, holding it in place. "Bonnie…"

"Damon please." She begged with eyes shining with tears. "I can't…" The guilt would eat at her if she allowed herself to think about it too hard. "I have to go…"

Damon grabbed her chin gently, kissing her slow and sweetly, savoring the last moment of having here in his arms for the night. "I'll see you tomorrow?" He relaxed when she nodded with a smile.

As Bonnie hopped in an uber that night, she looked out the window and let a silent tear track her cheek. It was a getting harder and harder to leave him at night, and harder to deny that this was no more than just sex.

AN: Hey guys! So sorry for the delay in this chapter. It's been a busy few months. Soo the affair is in full swing now. What happens when Jeremy comes back? What is going on between Damon and Katherine? Thank you for sticking it out with me!

On another note…I have just finished watching Supernatural, and I'm thinking of starting a fic for that show with a Vampire Diaries crossover. Would any of you be interested? Lol I'm going to do it anyways, but just curious if anyone is into SPN. Let me know your thoughts!
