Chippewa Falls

It had been almost 3 months since Rose arrived in Chippewa Falls, and 2 months since she started her job at the theatre. She worked mainly in the wardrobe department backstage, helping the actors change in and out of their costumes and helping with their hair and makeup- something she loved. She'd become more socialable around the town and had become friendly with a lot more people, though still stuck with Marie most of the time. She still kept the Titanic story from others but had managed to remain honest, telling people she was from Philadelphia and that her family were no longer around - though she didn't clarify if they were alive or not. The only bit of information she did lie about, was her surname and Cal. She told others it was Wilson if they asked- she hated lying, but her real surname would make it far too easy to figure out who she was.

Tom was paying Rose generously for her job, putting Rose in a position where she was able to rent a small but cozy 1 bed flat.

12pm

Rose walked towards the front door upon hearing a knock. "Hi" Rose smiled weakly as she saw it was Marie. "Hey" Marie smiled at Rose, but her facial expression quickly changed to concern seeing the state of Rose. "What are you doing here?" Rose asked. "We were meant to be going for lunch, remember?" Marie replied "oh, I forgot" Rose said, her face white as a sheet. "Are you OK?" Marie frowned concerned, getting a nod in response. "I'm fine" Rose smiled ever so slightly before rushing to the bathroom, where she threw up. Marie followed her in to the bathroom and passed her a damp cloth to wipe her forehead with. "What's wrong?" "Oh, I think I just have a stomach bug…" Rose lied. "I know we haven't been friends long, but I know when you're lying, Rose" Marie raised an eyebrow, getting a sigh in response. "I think-" Rose paused "I think I'm pregnant" she finished. "What?!" Marie asked shocked, her eyes widened. "I've been being sick every morning for weeks now, today is the only day it's been like this though… and I'm late… I'm never late" Rose sighed. "You need to see the Doctor" Marie replied. "No." Rose replied firmly "why not?" Marie asked. "Because if I see the doctor and he tells me I'm pregnant, then it makes this real. I can't be a single Mum, I don't have means or ability to take care of a baby" Rose said, finally moving away from the toilet and resting again the wall, watching as Marie sat down too. "You do have the means, and you have the ability. You'd make an excellent Mum, Rose!" Marie tried to reassure her "who's the Father, if you don't mind me asking?" She asked carefully, watching as Rose's eyes fell to the floor. "He passed away in April… I don't really want to talk about him… it still hurts" she sighed sadly "he would have made the most amazing Dad, and I think that would make this even harder, thinking about what we could have had. I can't do this alone" Rose looked up "you won't be on your own, you have a wonderful community around you, Rose. We're all here to help… I promise" Marie squeezed her hand gently before standing up and helping Rose to her feet. "Go and lay down for a while, I'm going to go and get the Doctor" Marie said, getting a small nod in response "thank you" Rose said quietly as she walked towards her bedroom.

Marie returned around 30 minutes later with the doctor and knocked on Rose's bedroom door. "Rose, the Doctor is here" she said quietly from the other side. "Come in" Rose replied sleepily as she sat up, smiling awkwardly at the Doctor as he walked in. "I'll wait in the living room, if you'd like?" Marie offered. "Yes please" Rose nodded with a small smile.

"Good afternoon, Mrs Wilson" the Doctor smiled. He was around mid 20s and seemed friendly, something that made Rose a little bit more at ease. "Hello" she smiled gently. "I hear you think you might be pregnant?" He asked. "Yes…" Rose replied. "Are you happy for me to examine you?" The Doctor asked, getting a nod in response as Rose lay down.

20 minutes later

"Well congratulations, Mrs Wilson. You're expecting" the Doctor replied with a smile. Rose sighed to herself ever so quietly, not loud enough for the Doctor to hear and her heart sunk. "Thank you…" Rose replied, trying not to show her upset. "Now, I don't know you well, so I'm unsure who your husband and who the Father is, but if you'd like any support telling him, we're here to help" the Doctor replied as he closed his brief case. "He passed away not long ago… but thank you" Rose replied with an awkward smile. "Oh, I'm so sorry" the Doctor replied, Rose shook her head as she brushed it off. "Well I'll be back in around 2 months to check up on you, however in the meantime, if you begin to feel worse or have any concerns, feel free to get in touch" the Doctor said. "Thank you" Rose replied quietly "take care, Mrs Wilson" he said as he left the room.

"Well?" Marie asked as she walked in to Rose's room cautiously. "I'm pregnant…" Rose replied with very little emotion.
