Episode XXVIII (28): Becoming Warriors
Natius and the others exited the portal and found themselves a bamboo thicket that was near Mulan's village.
Bianca asked, "What are we doing here anyway?"
Mahad answered, "We must awaken the warriors of Discipline and Courage."
Once more, Natius was in an environment that made him feel nostalgic and miss his family. Not that he didn't expect to feel this way. After all, this is the home world of his father's ancestors.
Bianca asked Natius, "Do you think that your father will be lenient to Brandon?"
Natius answered, "I doubt it. That kind of attempted murder according to him was a cold and calculating move that should come with a severe penalty to ensure that anyone else doesn't get any ideas like that."
Danyal stated, "If we are to find Mulan, then we need to lay low to prevent any conspicuous behavior."
Mana asked, "What point in the story are we at?"
"I don't know," Natius answered. "Hopefully at a time that's before Mulan heads off to the camp."
"She must be training with the matchmaker at this time," Jeanette assumed.
Natius sighed. He knew of the ancient traditions of courtship during these times. He was grateful his generation was one where everyone had the freedom to choose who to marry.
Fortunately for the heroes, they saw a young woman running to catch up with other girls around her age.
The heroes cautiously followed. They kept to the shadows of an alley, not wanting to attract unwanted attention from the townspeople. They weren't able to go any further. Once the matchmaker came and called Mulan's name, both women stepped inside the residence.
"Nothing to do now but wait," said Jeanette.
"At least it won't take long," said Natius.
Bianca asked, "How long?"
Danyal answered, "I'd give it two minutes."
It wasn't long until the sound of screaming and objects clattering began to be heard from inside the residence.
The doors suddenly burst open, and the matchmaker was on fire. Mulan doused the fire with the tea in her hands. Outraged, the matchmaker berated the young woman, telling her she would never bring honor to her family.
Hurt and ashamed, Mulan began making her return home with her mother and grandmother.
Natius was appalled with the Matchmaker's outburst, but he didn't see any point getting back at her, as she would regret those words sometime later.
Zander stated impressed with Natius's behavior, "I'm surprised that you didn't punish her."
Natius replied, "It's not worth it. Besides she'll eat those words later."
Bianca commented, "You finally learned a lesson."
"No," he said. "I just took Danyal's advice into account about laying low and I didn't want to make things any worse than they already were."
Bianca stated, "Good thinking."
This gave her an idea and she stated, "There's a prayer room in the Fa Family."
Natius gave a small sigh. He remembered how his father always wanted to have a prayer room built for his house but wasn't able to cover the expense to have one built.
Bianca asked, "Are you okay?"
Natius answered, "My father wanted a prayer room in honor of my great grandfather World War II veteran, Satoshi Takahashi. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to cover the expenses."
Natius added, "Grandpa Toshi was an American soldier who lost his older brother and was sent home."
"Didn't you tell us about this back in Paris?" Toboé asked.
Natius answered, "Yes."
Mahad looked at a statue of an imposing dragon. It was the Great Stone Dragon statue; it was said that to be the most powerful guardian of the Fa family. Natius began to feel a sense of nostalgia as he would often walk past a statue that greatly resembled the statue he was looking at.
As Natius breathed a heavy sigh, Zander asked him, "Homesick, Natius?"
There was no use in lying. Natius was homesick and missing his family.
But all of his friends understood. They missed their families as well. Visiting the home worlds of their ancestors wasn't making the situation any easier either. But as much as they wanted to go home, they knew they couldn't; not until they found their history teacher and a way home.
Mana asked, "Should we follow behind Mulan?"
Mahad stated, "I have an idea, once Mulan leaves the prayer room, we can have a brief discussion with the ancestors."
Natius looked at him. "They won't speak to anyone who is not of their family."
Danyal advised, "That make perfect sense. We'll wait outside the room."
Bianca asked, "But where?"
Danyal answered, "There's a garden in the Fa residence."
Bianca asked, "What if we get caught?"
Mahad remarked, "Well that's a very positive attitude."
Danyal stated, "Some of the members of our group are predators."
The heroes suddenly heard the sound of a drum beating. The emperor's counsel had arrived, announcing the invasion of the Huns and it was decreed that one man from every family had to serve the imperial army.
Natius looked at the scene from a cherry tree with a sense of understanding as he began to remember the stories that his paternal great grandfather would tell him. Especially, about how American young men were drafted into World War II following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
When it came time for the Fa Family, but there was an unfortunate problem. Fa Zhou had no brother or sons to serve in his place.
Mulan tried to plead for her father not to be summoned to serve the army, but the emperor's counselor would not listen. He ordered Fa Zhou to report to the camp tomorrow.
Fa Zhou replied, "Yes sir."
Natius felt disappointed in the counselor's attitude and as soon as he noticed the Fa Family heading back into their residence, this gave him an opportunity to have a brief discussion with his father's family's ancestors.
As Mana watched them walk, she asked, "What was that all about?"
Natius decided to explain. "According to what my father told me, the last time Fa Zhou went into battle, he got injured pretty badly. He hadn't fully recovered by the time he was summoned again. Mulan feared he would die if he went back into battle into battle since he wasn't in any condition to fight."
"What kind of injury was inflicted on him?" Bianca asked.
"My dad said that what happened was of little importance and that the point was Fa Zhou hadn't yet recovered when all this started."
Danyal stated, "My speculation is that he might have been injured in the leg and that lead him to carry a walking stick."
Omar nodded. "Add that to his age and of course he wouldn't be able to have gone back into battle."
"He wasn't willing to let that stop him," Natius said. "My grandfather once said you have to be willing to put yourself in harm's way not just for honor or duty, but to do what's right."
That was what his family always believed. In a way, that was what was expected from a family who hailed from a long line of warriors fighting for their countries.
Danyal stated, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends or those he loves."
"You mentioned that back in Paris," said Jeanette.
"The point is, it's not about honor," Natius was saying. "It's about making sacrifices for loved ones."
Mahad asked, "What are we to do about this? We can't let this man get himself killed. As his death would lead to so many consequences that would leave a negative impact."
Natius replied, "Let the events play out."
Natius scurried off to the prayer room, hoping he'd be able to speak to the ancestors.
When he stepped inside, he saw many Chinese markings. There was also a statue of a small dragon resting on a tray hanging nearby. That was where the family placed burning incense when they would pray. Unfortunately, Natius didn't have any incense with him. Even if he did, he wouldn't be able to place it on the tray in the form of a rat.
Natius wasn't going to let that stop him from trying, though. He closed his eyes and clasped his paws together and began praying.
Natius prayed, "Honorable ancestors. I call upon you to help me in this dark hour."
To his surprise the tablets began to glow!
The spirit of the first ancestor appeared. Looking down at Natius, he sensed that he had a connection to the Fa family. "You have ties to this family."
"Yes," Natius replied. "I'm a descendant from the future."
The spirit asked, "Why have you come?"
Natius answered, "I have asked you for some guidance in this dark hour."
"Very well," the spirit replied. "Tell me of your troubles."
Natius explained, "My friends and I are trying to find our history teacher and a way home. Also, my friends are trying to find a way to deter Fa Zhou from going into war as he can end up dead due to his age and health which is not good at this point."
"I cannot help you there," the spirit said. "I have heard that once too often, you have tried to interfere by trying to change things you knew could not be changed. Each result has ended in vain for you."
Natius looked down. "I knew it was a long shot," he muttered to himself.
Natius asked, "What about my history teacher?"
"To save your teacher, you must go to the world of the evil entity controlling him," the spirit answered.
Natius clarified, "How do I awaken the elements of discipline and courage?"
"You must prove yourself courageous and disciplined." the spirit answered.
That evening, as it started to rain, the heroes stayed in the garden. Mulan was outside too, sitting at the statue of the Great Stone Dragon.
Rain began pouring down from the night sky Natius noticed the statue glowing and he asked, "What the-?"
He had heard stories about a dragon spirit living within the statue. Was it possible?
Natius saw a spirit that greatly resembled the statue looking down at Mulan.
Natius muttered, "No way."
But Mulan didn't sense another presence coming from the statue. She did, however, finally notice the animals nearby. "Animals? I must be imagining things."
"You're not going mad," Bianca assured her.
Mulan yelped in surprise. "You can talk?"
"Please don't encourage her," Zander said.
Mulan yelped again as she inadvertently backhanded Natius and he fell on the ground as he asked lying on the ground, "What? What did I say?"
Mulan muttered, "I must be dreaming."
Natius asked, "Why did she backhand me?"
Danyal pointed out, "You're still a talking rat."
"We were going to have to make ourselves known to her sooner or later." Bianca argued.
Natius knew she was right. If the heroes were going to help Mulan discover her element and fulfill her destiny, then they had to meet her sooner than later.
Zander cried, "This isn't the time for arguing like a bunch of rats fighting over food."
Mulan was astonished. "How do you know all of that?"
"We watched this afternoon's events from this courtyard," Bianca explained. "And we understand you're worried for your father."
Mulan nodded. "His injuries still haven't healed since he returned from his last battle."
"So why does he stubbornly refuse to understand that his family is worried for him?" Zander asked.
The young woman sighed. "My father is not afraid to die. He's willing to put himself in harm's way to protect us as well as for honor. But we're afraid to lose him."
Natius stated, "We need to act quickly if we are to save him from getting himself killed."
Mulan knew what to do. If her father was brave enough to be willing to do what he thought was right, then she knew she had to be too. She went to the prayer room and placed some burning incense on the tray and said a quick prayer to her family's ancestors. Then she went to her parents' room and took the conscription and placed her comb on the dresser. Afterwards, she took Fa Zhou's armor and sword and cut her hair and tied it in a bun, disguising herself as a male soldier. Then she went to the stable where Khan, the family horse was sleeping. Khan did not recognize Mulan and whinnied in fright, but Mulan calmed him.
Now that everything was set, Mulan began riding off to the camp.
Natius saw the spirit that he saw earlier flying to Mulan's direction.
"Let's go," he shouted to his friends, following Mulan and the spirit.
His friends agreed and began following after him.
The heroes sprinted to catch up with Mulan!
Mahad asked, "Do you think we'll reach the camp?"
"I think we will as long as we're able to keep up with Mulan," said Jeanette.
"This is crazy," said Omar. "Doesn't she realize what she's doing is considered treasonous?"
Mulan did know of the consequences of the risks she was taking. But she wasn't afraid. She was willing to face the dangers. Of course, she knew of the fate she would face if she were to be discovered and she had to be careful enough to make sure that would not happen.
Mahad stated, "At least she's doing what's right."
It was considered the right thing because Mulan was making an effort to save her father from putting himself in danger, but it was also still considered wrong because it was against tradition and considered an act of dishonor. All the same, Mulan was willing to face the dangers and consequences.
By the time the heroes caught up to her, they were able to spot the camp.
Natius looked at the camp from the bamboo thicket in awe and he cried, "Hey! Get a load of this view!"
His friends followed and looked in his direction. "So that's the camp," said Zander.
As Bianca looked at Mulan, she began to be filled with doubt. She may look like a soldier on the outside, but on the inside, she's still a young Chinese maiden.
Mulan stated, "It's going to take a miracle to get into the army."
"You can say that again," said Bianca.
Danyal commented, "I don't know if they would tolerate a menagerie of animals."
"Even I have my doubts," said Zander.
Mahad asked, "What can we do?"
They heard a voice cry out, "Did I hear someone ask for a miracle?"
The voice came from a silhouette of a giant dragon!
Everyone cried out in alarm and hid behind the rocks nearby.
Mushu lied, "I have been sent by your ancestors Mulan to guide you through this masquerade."
Mushu warned Mulan, "Heed my word, if the army finds out you're a girl, the penalty is death!"
"Who are you?" Mulan asked.
The dragon came out of the flames and introduced himself as Mushu. Mulan was baffled, but somewhat disappointed as well, only to see that Mushu was a small red dragon. She also felt slightly embarrassed for allowing herself to be frightened and amazed at the same time.
Thinking the dragon was a snake, Khan began stomping him with his hooves, but Mulan stopped her horse before he could crush Mushu to death because she was curious about the dragon.
Mahad asked Mushu, "So you're going to help us."
Mana stated to Mushu intrigued by the dragon, "You are about the size of a rattlesnake."
"I'm travel size," Mushu stated. "If I was my actual size, you talking animals would die of fright."
Anakin scoffed. "I doubt it."
Nausicaä replied, "Besides, dragons are supposed to be powerful, and you don't even look imposing."
"Didn't anyone ever teach you that things aren't always what they seem?" Mushu countered. "I'm willing to bet you talking animals aren't really animals at all."
Natius was stunned at that statement. "How do you know that? Did Mulan's ancestors tell you?"
Mushu answered, "Yes. I have eyes that can see past disguises."
Danyal asked, "Like X-Ray vision?"
"No." answered Mushu.
Mulan finally asked Natius, "Why are you all following me anyway?"
Natius looked at her. "We understand your resolve to join the army in your father's place. You're doing this to save him. We just want to help."
Mulan advised, "I don't think the Imperial Army would allow animals to roam around their camp."
"We've been in situations like this before," said Jeanette. "We can make ourselves scarce."
Mulan stated, "I hope that you'll learn something in this camp."
Natius saw the camp as an opportunity to try and awaken the element of discipline.
The group finally came to the camp. Mulan was trying her best to make herself act like a man by making herself sound masculine and appear tough and confident. Easier said than done. It had only been less than a minute and she was already feeling out of place.
Danyal muttered, "Already, we're on a bad start."
Natius began to look around and he was about to control Mulan, but Zander stopped him.
Zander stated, "You change one event, you change everything. I would be careful with the decisions that you're making."
Natius sighed, remembering what the spirit of the first ancestor said.
Ling noticed Natius and he cried which caught the attention of other soldiers, "Rat!"
Natius began to scurry into a tent, afraid of being treated like a pest!
He began to hear a deep voice stating, "The Huns have struck here, here, and here, I will take the main route in the Tung Shao pass and stop Shan Yu before he destroys this village."
Natius hid among the grass hoping to not get detected by a group of imperial recruits out to get him.
Keeping hidden he looked at the men who were speaking. One of them was Captain Li Shang. Natius gasped as he silently saw him. Shang was a young man with dark hair tied in a bun and had disciplined brown eyes and he was garbed in a soldier's armor. Looking at the captain, Natius thought he was looking at his own father.
Speaking to the captain was Shang's father, General Li. He was telling his son to stay and train the new recruits until they would be ready to join the general and his army.
As the captain and general stepped outside, they saw the soldiers in an uproar and running around frantically.
One soldier cried, "We have a rodent problem."
Li Shang asked, "What?"
Other soldiers were saying they saw other various animals like birds and feral cats. Natius watched the frenzy, hoping the rest of his friends were keeping themselves scarce.
Danyal perched herself on a tree and she looked at the chaos in annoyance with the soldiers trying to find a rat until she noticed a soldier who ran into the tent.
Within the tent that Shang and his father were talking in, a soldier ran in opening the tent and he cried, "This camp is turning to chaos! The soldiers are complaining about feral cats and birds here."
Shang asked, "What?"
"It's true," another soldier cried. "A new soldier arrived with various animals."
Shang went to go and check the situation. Hia father left the camp with his own army to the Tung Shao Pass.
Shang called for everyone's attention. "Soldiers!"
They all stopped and gave him their attention, then pointed fingers at Mulan, saying the animals they saw came with her.
Shang stated, "I don't need anybody causing trouble in my camp."
"Sorry," Mulan weakly apologized. She strengthened her voice and tried again. "Sorry you had to see that."
Shang asked, "What's your name?"
Mulan stammered. She hadn't taken the time to think of a name for herself. Bianca placed her palm over her face. Already this was too embarrassing.
Danyal flew down and she whispered to Mulan "Try Fa Ping."
Mulan stated finally using her deeper voice, "My name is Fa Ping."
Mushu glared at Danyal.
Danyal said in a low and silent voice, "We'll discuss this later. Now is not the appropriate time to do so."
Shang almost didn't believe her and asked to see the conscription. Mulan handed it to him and as he read the contents, he was surprised to see Fa Zhou's name. Shang was amazed. He had heard about Fa Zhou from his father many times before.
Mulan answered, "He doesn't talk about me much."
Shang spoke to the soldiers. "Okay, gentlemen, thanks to Ping and his animal friends, you'll spend the day picking up every single grain of rice. And tomorrow, the real work begins."
Everyone began groaning and muttering.
Bianca sighed in annoyance. "I have never been so embarrassed."
Natius just smiled pitifully at Mulan. He wondered if his father had it tough on his first day too when he started training at the police academy.
Mushu asked Danyal, "What is wrong with you?"
Danyal replied, "That's how the Chinese naming system works. What'd you expect? Hua Ping or something like that?"
"Let's get something straight, girl," Mushu snapped. "I'm the one who's going to help Mulan get through this. Don't do my job for me."
Danyal replied, "Understood."
"I can't believe the captain is allowing us to stay in the camp," said Jeanette.
"Just as long as we don't cause trouble," said Mahad.
Zander scoffed. "Have we ever tried doing otherwise since this all started?"
Natius answered, "No. I had to go into hiding because I'm not sure how the Chinese would view rats."
The following day, Mulan joined the other soldiers to begin the first day of training.
Natius looked from a distance to ensure that he wouldn't trampled on by the soldiers.
He muttered, "This should be funny."
Bianca joined him. "And what, pray tell, is so amusing?"
"Shang," Natius answered.
Bianca arched a brow. "Come again?"
"It's just, he reminds me so much of my father," he replied.
Natius noticed Chi Fu with two weights in a box.
Shang fired an arrow to a high pillar made out of wood.
Shang explained that the weights represented discipline and strength and that they were needed to retrieve the arrow. But the weights proved too heavy for anyone who tried climbing the post while holding them.
"We've got a long way to go," Shang muttered. He took a bunch of wooden poles from a wooden jar and tossed them to his trainees.
Bianca asked as she noticed the poles being handed, "What do they represent?"
"What?' Natius asked, not understanding her question.
Bianca rephrased her question, "Do those wooden poles have any significance in Chinese culture?"
Natius shrugged. "I don't know. For a minute, I thought you were wondering if Ling, Yao, and Chin-Po represented any elements."
Mana asked, "Just curious, what elements do these fellows get?"
"I guess we'll have to wait and see," Natius answered.
Mahad stated, "I seriously doubt they'll get any elements mainly because they're supporting characters."
Danyal argued, "I beg to differ."
"Thomas and Nakoma were supporting characters and they represented elements." Jeanette pointed out.
"The archdeacon too." Vandela added.
Bianca stated, "That's a good point."
Days passed and each training session proved too much for Mulan. She lacked the strength and coordination. Because of this, Shang decided to relieve her from the army. She was about to leave until she saw that the arrow was still pinned to the post.
That night, while everyone else was sleeping, Mulan took the weights and began using them to climb the post. Her arms were sore and she slipped once, but she pushed herself to keep going, attracting the attention of the other recruits who were encouraging her to keep going.
Shang stepped out of his tent, wondering what was going on. Then he saw the arrow land at his feet. Looking up, he saw Mulan sitting on the post and everyone was cheering for her. Impressed, Shang figured she might be fit for the army after all. Even the others felt more motivated, as though Mulan's refusal to quit was inspiring to them.
Chi Fu was arguing with Shang about the recruits being in the imperial army!
Chi Fu asked, "You really think that they can take down Shan Yu?"
"They completed their training," said Shang.
"Those boys are no more fit to be soldiers than you are to be captain," Chi Fu scoffed. "Once the general hears my report, your troops will never see battle."
"We're not finished!" Shang shouted.
"Be careful, Captain. The general may be your father, but I am the emperor's counsel," Chi Fu reminded him. "And by the way, I got that job on my own," he bragged.
Not wanting to hear another word, Shang left the tent.
Natius asked Zander, "What are we to do about this?"
Zander answered, "We'll have to wait."
Natius protested, "The general will die. He needs our help!"
Zander argued, "There are some things in life that are beyond our control. You should know the best course of action would be to accept that by now. Also, Shan Yu is a ruthless barbaric warlord who brutally murders villagers in cold blood and brings Hell on all in his path."
A sly smile crossed Mushu's face. "You kids just leave it to me." He snuck into an empty tent and began writing an emergency message, saying the general and his troops needed help at the Tung Shao Pass.
Natius asked, "Do you think we'll reach them in time?"
"We won't know until we get there," said Zander.
"The pass is a long way from here," Natius said, remembering how he looked at a map of China from Shang's tent. "The general and his army could already be battling the huns right now."
Danyal pointed out, "Unfortunately, that is one event that would not be changed in the slightest."
"Why not?" Natius asked.
Danyal stated, "There are some things that are inevitable."
As hard as it was for Natius to accept, he knew there was nothing he could to to prevent this from happening. They wouldn't make it in time to help the general, but they would still be able to make an effort to stop the Huns.
The heroes joined Mulan and the army on the journey. They passed through the fields and plains and coming to the snowy mountains.
Though everyone was exhausted from walking for days, Shang pushed them to keep going.
"I'm so tired," Bianca groaned.
Mahad looked at her. "We can't stop, Bianca."
"I said the journey would be long," Natius advised his friends.
Mana asked, "How many days does it take to reach the pass?"
"It's been three days," Natius answered. "We should be getting close."
And they were getting close. But a terrible sight met their eyes. They saw so many small houses that had been burnt down. They were now at the village that the general said he would defend.
Shang ordered everyone to spread out and search for survivors, but there was no sign of life anywhere.
Bianca shuddered. "This is worse than the time Frollo burnt down the whole city of Paris." she muttered.
Shang continued looking around. "I don't understand," he said to himself. "My father should have been here."
"Captain!" Chi Fu cried. Shang approached him and was horrified at what he saw. His father's entire army was laying lifeless in the snow. Even the general had been killed.
Shang took his father's helmet and sheathed his sword in the snow and positioned his helmet on top of it.
Mulan approached the captain. "I'm sorry," she whispered sympathetically. Inside, she understood his pain. This was the fate she wanted her own father to avoid. Now she wished it could have been the same for Shang's father.
The heroes understood as well, for most of them also knew what it was like to lose a father.
Although Shang was hurt from losing his father, he was not going to let his death be a burden on his shoulders nor in vain. He mounted his horse. "The Huns are moving quickly. We'll make better time to the Imperial City through the Tung Shao Pass. We're the only hope for the emperor now. Move out!" And everyone began marching again.
Danyal stated, "This is why war is hell boys."
Zander stated, "I agree. If Shan Yu were a Dark Master, he would give Frollo or Turbo something to cry about. I wouldn't be surprised that he'd go after you Natius."
"I wouldn't be surprised either," he replied. "After all, he is the enemy of my father's ancestors."
"Why couldn't he be a Dark Master?" Jeanette wonder. "He's a villain of higher power, leading an entire army, he's vengeful and fearful, and he doesn't let anything stop him."
"I think that's something only the Dark Masters would know," said Mahad.
Natius stated, "I have a speculation that Grimhilde considered him one of her candidates."
Mahad asked, "What do those two have in common?"
Natius looked at his friends. "Me. They share a common enemy in me for being a descendant of their enemies."
Mana stated, "It is so beyond me on how Grimhilde not pick him?"
Despite everyone's curiosity towards the concept, the heroes wouldn't be getting an answer anytime soon. They couldn't just ask Grimhilde since she was dead.
Suddenly, a cannon was fired from the cart and shot into the sky. Mulan and the heroes glared at Mushu, knowing he caused it.
Shang approached Mulan. "What happened?" Without giving her a chance to explain, he told her, "You just gave away our position! Now we're-" an arrow suddenly struck him. A barrage of arrows began to be shot down at the heroes and the soldiers.
"Get out of range!" Shang cried, and everyone began running to safety.
Mahad asked, "What can we do?"
Bianca snapped, "This isn't the time for questions!"
A shower of arrows continued to rain on them. This time, they were on fire. The carriage that Khan was pulling was shot and began to catch fire. Soldiers were hurrying to save what they could, and Mulan freed her horse before he could be caught in the blast. The soldiers began firing their cannons at the archers on the slopes.
One cannon caused three archers to fall to their deaths!
As the smoke from the blasts began to clear, Shang saw Shan Yu and his army of Huns coming. "Prepare to fight," he told his soldiers. "If we die, we die with honor."
Natius asked, "What'll we do?"
As Mulan looked down at her sword, she saw the reflection of a snow-covered mountain close by. This gave her an idea. She swiped the cannon from Yao and began running.
"Ping, come back!" Shang shouted, seeing she was running towards the Huns.
But Mulan didn't stop until she got at a close enough range. She was about to fire the cannon until she was attacked by Shan Yu's falcon.
Natius came up with a plan and he cried, "I have an idea Danyal, cover me. Jeanette, do you a lighter?"
Jeanette answered, "No. Why?"
"We have to light the fuse," he told her.
Jeanette noticed a red lighter on the snow, and she grabbed it with Zander's help!
Natius began running to Mulan!
Once they made it to her, Natius hurried to light the fuse. Mulan aimed the cannon, and it shot off towards the mountain. The impact of the blast caused an avalanche that began making its way towards them. The Huns tried to escape but were getting caught in the avalanche. Enraged, Shan Yu raised his sword and struck Mulan. Ignoring her wound, she hurried to rejoin the others.
Mahad was terrified of the avalanche!
The soldiers were able to find safety in hiding close to a bunch of boulders capable of protecting them from getting swept away. Unfortunately, Mulan and Shang were caught in the avalanche and struggling to get to safety.
Danyal asked Nausicaä, "What do we do?"
"We've got to get help somehow," she answered.
Natius cried as a powerful tide of snow began to overpower his small body, "Help! Help me!"
A powerful wave buried him into the snow!
He suddenly felt himself being pulled up by Zander. "Word of advice: consider changing into a larger animal."
Natius replied trying to shake off the lightheadedness, "I'll keep that in mind. Thanks."
They were heading towards the end of a cliff. Mulan shot an arrow that was connected with a rope. The soldiers caught the arrow and began pulling Mulan and the others back to safety. The avalanche was stopping as well.
Once everyone was brought far from the edge, Shang finished catching his breath and said to Mulan, "Ping, you are the craziest man I ever met." He gave a soft smile and said, "For that, I owe you, my life. From now on, you have my trust."
As everyone was cheering, Mulan suddenly groaned in pain and held her hand against her abdomen.
Natius saw blood on her hand and on the spot where Shan Yu attacked her. "Mother of God," he gasped.
Shang saw it too. "He's wounded! Get help!"
Mulan began losing consciousness and her strength began fading.
Author's Notes: Shang is in for a shocking revelation. Will Natius keep himself under control? Tune in next episode.
