*Pop*

Goku tried to take in his surroundings, but it was too dark to see anything. He could smell where he ended up though: The kitchen! The kitchen's pantry to be precise. His stomach growled with enthusiasm when he smelled what was on the counter on the other side of the door. Not now tummy. I just need to find Chi-Chi's wallet without waking anyone. Culinary self-control wasn't Goku's strong suit, but he couldn't give in right now. Chi-Chi would get angry and he'd be forced to hunt and cook his own food for at least a week. He much preferred to train and eat the meals his wife prepares for him.

Before he opened the pantry door to leave the small room, his ears picked up a sound coming from the hallway. He recognised the ki signal and smiled. This is going to be awesome!

Goku decided to stay hidden for now and wait to see where this was going. Literally. He got down on his haunches and hugged his knees to his chest. He closed his eyes so he could focus on his other senses. The saiyan tracked the advancing ki and listened to the sounds it was producing.

The little girl wobbled towards the kitchen, probably smelling the same thing he does. Her tiny feet padded across the hallway floor with an uneven pace. Getting to her objective without help was going to be tricky, but Goku was sure she could do it.

The child put both of her palms on the kitchen door and tried to push it open. No luck. She looked up towards the door handle that was just out of her reach. She scowled. Too high. She turned around and wobbled her way towards the coat rack on the other side of the hallway and carefully lifted the umbrella from the basket. Armed with her new tool, she returned. She hooked the grip to the door handle and pulled down. *Click* Success! She smiled. With the door unlocked she pushed it open and made her way into the kitchen.

Goku felt a warm feeling rise in his chest. That's it! Now, onto the next battle.

The little girl stood in the center of the square kitchen and tried to take in her dark surroundings. Where did mama put it? The smell was strong, so she knew it was here somewhere.

The toddler decided that she needed a light. She put her palms in front of her chest, slightly parted and facing each other. What did dada say again? With an expression of utmost concentration, she directed her ki towards her hands. Willing it to flood out and form a little ball in between her palms. *Poof* It failed, giving off only a small spark before fizzling out. The determined kid tried again. This time a little slower. Letting her ki flow out of her hands like a gentle stream. She relaxed her fingers, pushed her palms up just a little and… *zap*, success! She created a ball of light! Her eyes beamed, but she didn't make a noise. Impressive, given her accomplishment and her age.

She held up her homemade flashlight with one palm as she looked around the kitchen. Now, where's the yumyum?

Goku struggled to suppress a chuckle. Way to go Pan! I'm so proud of you! Looks like Gohan taught you well. He shifted so he could peek through the keyhole and watch his granddaughter on her quest to her forbidden midnight snack.

With the help of her light, Pan managed to locate her yumyum. It was on the kitchen counter. She knew it wasn't her turn to have a slice yet, but she was part saiyan and thus cursed with an obsession for food. In the case of a two-year-old, an obsession with pastries, candy and other sweets.

Pan walked over to the counter with an unsteady pace. Putting in effort to maintain her ball of ki. One more hurdle to cross before she could have her reward. Once she made it over, she looked up. She needed a step of some sort. The toddler turned around to scan the kitchen for usable objects.

Her eyes caught the folded household stairs first. She tilted her head as she considered using them. Too noisy. Then they moved to the stack of shopping crates in the corner. Not sturdy enough. Finally, they settled on the wooden stools underneath the window. Perfect!

Goku smiled. She clearly got her smarts from Gohan.

Pan made her way over to her new objective. Still careful to maintain her ball of ki. She grabbed a leg of one of the stools with her free hand and slowly pulled it towards the counter. The stool was light enough to move silently. Barely scraping the tiles of the kitchen floor.

Once she made it, she paused. She'll need both hands to climb her improvised step. Figuring she could trust her sense of touch, she extinguished her light and started climbing. Carefully hoisting herself up on the stool. From there, she grabbed the ledge of the countertop and pulled herself up with her inherited alien strength. I can't wait to learn how to fly like dada and grandpa!

Now face-to-face with the delicious chocolate fudge cake her mother made this evening, she was no longer able to suppress her giggles. She reached out with her right hand for the moist pastry. Then, unceremoniously, grabbed a fistful of the dark delicacy and stuffed it in her mouth. She reached out again, this time with both hands, and started fisting large chunks of the cake into her face in a very Goku-like fashion.

Goku's chest filled with pride. She may have gotten her smarts from Gohan, but she definitely got her eating habits from me! He spent a few minutes watching his granddaughter scarf down the chocolate cake, until there was nothing left but an empty plate and a very satisfied two-year-old.

Stuffed and content, Pan yawned and rubbed her eyes. Midnight cake adventures sure take a toll on a little girl. Oblivious to the possible consequences, she lay down on her side and curled herself up into a ball. Falling asleep on the counter.

This was Goku's que to leave the pantry. He walked over to the kitchen counter where Pan was sleeping and gave a soft sigh. "You did great Pan, grandpa is proud of ya." The warrior whispered while he gently pinched her chubby cheek. Goku scooped the sleeping toddler up, put the empty plate in the dishwasher and placed the wooden stool back in its original position. He silently floated to her bedroom to tuck her in. Before he left, he wiped the chocolate stains off her face. Removing the last bit of evidence of her victory. Goku left the child's room with a big smile on his face and made his way towards the living room. Now, where did Chi-Chi leave her wallet?

A few minutes later he located his own objective and *pop* vanished. Videl will never notice, right?
