Team RWVBY

Chapter 4

Wednesday morning had arrived and Cassian had started his day early. Silently walking through the common area, he went for the door, doing his best not to wake anyone. Outside their dorm he headed out for a jog around the campus building. He was accustomed to jogging around the city of Vacuo when he had some free time and this would serve as him getting more acquainted with the academy. It's not like he didn't want to get breakfast with his team or spend time with them, it was just better this way, or so he told himself. They seemed nice, but he was still figuring out his fresh start. One slip and giving away his past would just make things complicated. That's the lie he continued to tell himself. Finishing his jog, he decided to shower in the public shower room a floor down from their dorm room. It was still early so the showers were empty. He grabbed a towel from the dispensers and went into one of the stalls. Finished, he wrapped the towel around him and went to the mirror. He took a minute of reflection, examining the nub of his shoulder, where his once whole arm used to be, the scar on his chest. Why did he feel so tense. Turning around he looked out. There was no one there but he couldn't shake the feeling someone was watching. He turned back around unaware a camera had gone off in the distance.

Some time had passed and the girls of RWVBY had awoken. They found like yesterday, Cassian nowhere to be found in the dorm. The door to his room slightly ajar but no signs anyone was there. 'Guess this was going to be a recurring thing' A shared thought among them. They headed out to breakfast, maybe they would see him there. Looks like they had missed him for he wasn't in the cafeteria either. Getting their food, they quickly found a table and sat with team JNPR.

"No Cassian?" Jaune asked.

"Nope," A signature phrase from Ruby.

"Haven't seen him since last night." She added before taking a bite of her food.

"Did you at least get more time to talk with him?" He followed up his question.

"A bit, but with all the moving in and junk we didn't really get a chance to ask anything personal. Though, he doesn't seem to be offering the chance to either." Yang said.

"Yanggg," Ruby whined.

"What? It's true. He could wait for us once and come with breakfast with us. You know actually be a part of the team." She responded. It was quiet among their team, clearly sharing the sentiment but with things being new not wanting to address it fully.

"Either way, we're thinking of having a group study session later tonight, use that to bond and maybe even get to know him more," Ruby said though it was Weiss who came up with the idea.

"OOOOOOO, can we join!? We can check out your new pad?" Nora asked enthusiastically.

"Sure! The more the merrier," Ruby smiled.

"Just tell us the time and we'll be there," Jaune said with a smile. After a quick moment of realization like he remembered something important he asked, "Oh have any of you seen Ren's apron?"

"Ren has an apron?" Blake asked.

"Yes, Ren occasionally cooks during the weekends.

Its pink, with the words do nothing with the chef on the front. We thought he might have by accident left it in one of the common spaces." Pyrrha explained.

"No, but we'll keep an eye out." Ruby said. As they were leaving breakfast Ruby had sent Cassian a text bringing up the group study session. She had quickly gotten a thumbs up back with a sounds good from him. As day went throughout the classes, they overheard multiple teams mentioning missing items. It was strange but they didn't pay it too much attention.

Night had come, and all of team RWVBY had gathered in their common room with their books gathered. Blake and Weiss had taken to the table while Ruby and Yang took the couch. Cassian not having much to study for had review packets given to him by the professors with him sitting on the love seat. There as a light knock on the door.

"It's open!" Yang shouted. The doorknob turned and in came JNPR. Pyrrha and Ren joined Weiss and Blake at the table while Nora and Jaune sat on the floor around the coffee table.

"Soooo Cassian, what's Vacuo like?" Nora asked. Looked like she was gonna take charge on the girls' idea.

"Hot, sandy, boring," He listed off.

"Well, it can't be that boring. It's not every day you meet a huntsman and get offered to go to a huntsman academy?" There was a hidden question in there? How exactly did he come to be accepted into Beacon.

"I didn't go to a combat school so I didn't have any transcripts to get into Shade. You can't that a provisional license test till you're 21 but there's a lot of work for non-huntsman though. Caravan protection, small Grimm clearings. I met one who used to go to Beacon at the end of my last job."

"Have you killed a lot of Grimm before?" Ruby followed up with the question.

Oh, plenty. Ever fought a Beringel?" He asked the whole room.

"I hear they're common in Anima." Ren spoke up.

"Rare in Vacuo but they can pop up, they pack a mean punch. Then there's Geist. Not particular tough, unless they possess an inanimate object, then they can be pretty tricky to call." The others had heard of Geist in Port's class but never experienced one before. You all might not have heard of this one, how about Apathy?" He was met with blank looks. "Very rare, tall, lanky creatures. For the best you've never seen them, trust me you don't want to be caught by on." Cassian's scroll had gone off. "Hello?" He brought the scroll to his ear. "Okay, I'll be right there." He pocketed his scroll and stood up. "Professor Goodwitch called me, asked me to come report to her office. Look like study time has been cut short for me, see you all later." He said his goodbye and left the room. And like that, there went getting to know Cassian more. Oh well, tomorrow was another day.

It was Thursday morning and to the surprise of none of the girls, Cassian wasn't there in the morning. They had gotten a scroll alert that combat class was cancelled for today and slightly wondered if that's why Cassian went to see Goodwitch last night. They got dressed and on their way, to breakfast they overheard more and more teams reporting missing items. Making it to the cafeteria per usual they sat next to JNPR and started their day like all the others.

"Watch out!" A voice called out. Ruby turning her head had no time to react as a tray of food collided with her, its contents dropping all on her uniform and more importantly her cape. Behind her Dove Bronzewing was on the floor seemingly tripped.

"Hey! Watch where you're going Dove?" Yang called out.

"It was an accident! I'm sorry," Dove responded defensively and walked away. Ruby had shaken her arms trying to shake some of the remaining food off.

"Ruby I would hurry back to the dorm, before it stains." Ruby seemingly realizing that now yelped and activated her semblance and zipped out of the cafeteria. The girls returned to their breakfast when Jaune spoke up.

"You all get a chance to finish talking with Cassian?"

"Nah, the dude must have came back late, missed our chance. He's okay… I guess." Yang didn't sound too sure. "He just seems kind of I don't know bland and…"

"He's fake." Weiss scoffed and interrupted Yang. She got a few glances. "I don't say that to be mean. He has been polite to us and while I don't see any ill intentions yet, he is not being true to himself with us. I've seen the type many a time at family functions. He puts on a smile, is curt and polite with us, but he doesn't, it feels off."

"Maybe, he's just getting used to Beacon." Pyrrha tried to offer a weak excuse for his actions.

"I happen to agree with Weiss." Blake spoke up. "He doesn't show much emotion, gives us short and curt answers. The only time he's ever to shown emotion or be expressive was in combat class against Ruby and team CRDL." Weiss nodded in agreement with Blake. The subject changed and before long they had left breakfast to meet up with Ruby for class. As the day had gone by there had been no sight or message from Cassian. By now classes were over and the girls were retiring back to their dorm room. Wanting to unwind and change they each went into their respective rooms. Mere minutes had passed before,

"AHHHHHHHH." A scream came across their suite from Ruby's room. Wasting no time, the girls rushed to Ruby's room. Yang's fists were ready, Weiss had Myrtenaster, Blake, who didn't have enough time to grab Gambol Shroud, she had a heavy book in hand ready to throw. Ruby was on her knees looking panicked. "I can't find my emblem!" She said as she started pulling out drawers. Weiss and Blake had lowered their arms. Yang, knowing exactly the significance of Ruby's emblem, had rushed over to help. "I've looked everywhere! It's not here, it was here this morning I don't understand." She had her head in her hands. Weiss and Blake heard the door open and Cassian had walked into the common area.

"Where have you been all day?" Weiss sounded annoyed while Cassian just looked at in confusion.

"I've been with Professor Goodwitch and Port all day in the Emerald Forest. Today they had me go through a practical exam to make up for all the lost classes. What happened?"

"Ruby's emblem is missing." Weiss explained. Cassian walked over to her room and saw inside Yang hugging Ruby.

"Ruby, did you have your emblem with you at all today?" Cassian showed genuine concern.

"No, I… I don't think I did. I can't lose it. It was given to me by my mother." Cassian didn't need to hear any more.

"Maybe we should retrace your steps, just in case. I'll help."

Meanwhile at CRDL's room, Sky Lark sat down at his desk on a computer, his team huddled around him.

"Damn Sky! This is some good work. It actually looks legit." Cardin complimented his team.

"Thank all the computer classes I took growing up. Gotta love photoshop." Sky boasted.

"No one will know it was sent from us, right?" Cardin asked. For this to work, they couldn't be linked at all or it would all fall apart.

"Not at all, it's completely anonymous. By tomorrow, everyone in Beacon will be getting this sent directly to their scrolls."

"Perfect." It was time to hammer the nails into the coffin.

Authors Notes: Short chapter but we got some conflict brewing. Next chapter has already been written, just reviewing it and going over some fixes. As always feel free to review and comment! I've read the reviews so far and I'm glad people seem to be enjoying so far. Yes there will be romance, both oc and for Knightshade. There will be some buildup before that comes but it definitely will be coming. We're also building up to Cassian actually being a member of team RWVBY and interacting with them fully and get on tracks with events from the show and how his involvement affects it.
