But I can't find the words to tell you
Kagome walked up to the Demon Lord as Rin ran away from him to meet with the boy.
It was hard for him, though he said nothing, and his face showed no emotion like always. But Kagome knew.
"Back again, I'm starting to think you like me," She smiled; his eyes moved to her for a moment and then away. "Rin wished to come,"
Kagome shook her head; she knew that, of course. She sighed, how do you talk to him? How do you say what you want to say without seeming, overly friendly? Sesshomaru didn't do friends or heart to hearts.
"Come on, we will watch over them from the hill," She said and walked, he followed to her surprise.
They sat in calm silence as they watched Rin and the young man talk and laugh. Kagome had thought about asking if Rin could stay long term but didn't want to overstep; that and she was his daughter.
"You know, you will always be her father,"
He said nothing.
Kagome watched as Rin blushed as the boy tucked a flower behind her ear.
"Of course, she will always love you the most; daughters always love their fathers the most," She hardly remembered her father, but she knew she loved him.
Kagome sigh as the sun dropped and painted a glowing orange backdrop, Rin and the boy kissed.
"Sesshomaru I-
Kagome turned to find him walking away. Her body went slack, and she sighed again, she knew that feeling. She knew he would never say it, but he loved Rin, and he liked Jaken, and he tolerated her. He would never say what he felt, and she could not help but wonder if it's because he could not find the words?
Kagome looked back at Rin as she wrapped her arms around the boy with a giant smile on her face and Kagome knew Sesshomaru was leaving and Rin was not going with him.
She knew that feeling, too. Funny how much she and Sesshomaru had in common.
Rin walked back up hand in hand, "Lady Kagome, where did my Lord go?"
Kagome smiled at her softly. "Don't worry, Rin, he will come back; he's just-" She really didn't know how to finish that sentence.
"It's ok, I understand," Rin said, she looked at her boy. "I'll be right back," She said softly, and then Rin ran after Sesshomaru.
If anyone could find the words, it was Rin. Kagome was sure Rin was the only one he listened to and cared about. If she told him, he would hear them and understand.
That night, Kagome sat on a leaning tree, on a branch that almost touched the water and dangled her feet, and looked up at the moon. Rin had come back, and Kagome picked up no sadness from her, so she knew everything went well, but still, she felt, sad for the guy.
He would not admit it, but he was feeling like her, alone in a big wide world and losing more than gaining it seemed.
Kagome looked down into the water at her reflection. She felt even worse for him because one day, they would all die, and he would still be. He would be alone forever if he didn't let someone into his life.
"He really should find a good mate. It would make me feel better,"
"I was not aware, Miko, that you were so interested in my mating life,"
"It's called a love life," She corrected, not at all surprised that his hand snuck up and heard her.
He snorted at her word, "Do not play matchmaker with me woman I do not care how you feel."
She kicked her feet in the water. "Don't worry, I don't know anyone who would want to mate you anyway," She snapped, sticking her nose in the air. "And here I was worried about you,"
"I do not need your feelings,"
And yet, he was here, with her.
She sighed again and looked away "I was just thinking about when we are all gone."
She was met with silence; she looked back, and he was gone.
"Lady Kagome?" Rin ducked under the tree and came to stand at the edge of the river. She followed Kagome's eyesight and giggled, "He says so little and yet so much!" Rin said.
"What?"
"If you can't find the words, look at his eyes." Rin smiled. "He doesn't know how to say what he really is thinking, and even if he did, he wouldn't, but he shows it in his own way if you watch him and don't turn away,"
Kagome looked from the path to Rin back to the path.
"If you can't find the words, look at his eyes," Kagome whispered.
Next time he came back, if he did come back, she would do just that.
