Chapter five:
With the Shadows ready to help them out Mello and Matt have moved from the hotel into the residence where they had met up with Rai.
Rai is currently sitting with them as they are getting the known information on those that are likely responsible for all of this. She is looking at Matt who is typing away trying to figure out where they need to go to find even just one member of those responsible. "I doubt that my brother will tell them anything however that cannot guarantee how much time we have to find him before they go too far."
"Well if we find one of them then we can turn their little trick back onto them." Mello insists from where he is sitting looking at the information files of what they know that Rai had given to him. "Find even just one of them and get the information out of whoever that may be." He feels pretty confident about this even as he looks at one of the files on one of the guys who was dishonorably discharged from the military though went into hiding.
"You really think we can get one to tell us?" Rai looks to Mello curious about this.
"Oh trust me." Mello nods his head before looking up from the file with a slight smirk on his face. "There is plenty of tactics that we can use to get someone to talk. Especially if we get enough information on them to really scare them. Like an example is to bring a daughter that they may be trying to keep a secret to really scare them. Of course we won't actually do anything to anyone who is innocent and unaware to all of this. That would be going too far."
Rai nods her head in approval to this whole idea. "That is true. That would even be past what we are willing to do."
"I could simulate a fake kidnapping of any children if needed." Matt hums as a mention while he continues to work away on his laptop. "Give me a greenscreen and I should be able to make it pretty believable. I could even make it appear like another member that we have information on. If we don't want to waste time kidnapping two people for information."
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there." Rai slightly crosses her arms over her chest seeming to be more comfortable about the whole faking it idea.
Matt hums in agreement as he keeps his goggle covered eyes on his laptop screen.
Mello closes the file on the person that he was looking over. "So. When we do find Near what are we going to be doing to all those involved in all of this?"
"You can leave them to us." Rai tells Mello cooly not giving away even so much as a clue about what they do to these people when they get them.
Mello glances to her not really sure what to think about that sort of response since even with a moral code the Shadows are still a gang. He doubts that they will take all of this lightly so likely the group will fall into death if the blonde had to guess.
Rai looks to what Matt is doing looking completely unfazed by Mello looking at her.
Mello turns away wondering how he can figure out how to read her. He swears that she almost seems to be able to keep her thoughts all to herself. He also doesn't know too much about the kind of person that she actually is beyond any façade she may put forth. He slightly wonders if she truly is as cold and uncaring about human lives, even those that do things like this, as she seems to act.
"I have a location." Matt informs which snaps Mello out of his thoughts so he turns to look to the red head. "And enough information that we could definitely pull off what we need."
"Alright! Let us go!" Mello leaps to his feet in excitement and turns with a slight smile to Rai who shifts to her own feet with her arms going to hang down at her sides.
"You two stay here. Matt send me the information on the guy that we need." Rai's words makes Mello's excitement fall in an instant. "The Shadows will handle the kidnapping. You two can set up for the interrogation."
"What!?" Mello protests narrowing his eyes at the girl that had spoken.
Rai turns to him looking cold and unfazed with Mello's outburst. "Have you ever kidnapped someone before? Especially discretely so the others aren't alerted to our actions?" She questions and Mello honestly silently admits to himself that he hasn't. "It is harder than one may think it is. Just allow us to deal with that and you can focus instead on preparing everything for the interrogation. Including to decide who we should pretend to have in our custody as well to scare the guy if needed." She turns away and walks off calling out to someone else. "Kayden! Gather a few of the others to help these two with preparations."
Mello turns away with a slight tsk and his hands balling up into fists. His teeth clenched hard together in his frustration.
"She is right Mello." Matt points out slightly glancing to the blonde who slightly glares at him. "We really need to make sure that no one knows about all of this. If they catch on in any way then they may kill Near or do something else that could be really bad."
Mello closes his eyes letting out a breath as he supposes that Matt is kind of right. He allows his body to relax. "Fine. I am only do this because I still have to beat him as my rival."
"No one thinks you're doing it because you care." Matt smiles to his friend when the other opens his eyes to look at him. He turns to those that have come to help set things up. "Let us get everything ready to get the needed information out of this guy."
"We will be using a warehouse for it." One of the guys mentions to the two. "This is to ensure that if it comes to it where the location where we have him is found then it won't be this place. Better to be safer than sorry. Boss's orders."
"Alright. Well we will need a space where we can set up a green screen so I can fake someone being there." Matt goes along as he speaks up before Mello can say anything. "Though I will also need an image of the room first in order to make the illusion seem as real as possible. It will need to be a room out of earshot of wherever we are keeping the real hostage for interrogation. So the guy can't just yell out for some sort of response. If that is not possible then I can play some cries in the fake hostage's voice to try to convince him that it really is who he thinks it is."
"We can set all that up when we get there." The man nods for the two to follow him. "Come along."
Matt gathers an extra laptop then follows with Mello going along too.
Mello hopes that all of this will work. He wishes that he could have joined the group going to capture the person for the interrogation though he knows when he is outmatched. He doesn't really feel like taking the risk of getting shot by any of these guys if he tries to convince them to let him go with the other group.
They get into the same car that brought the two there in the first place and drive off to the warehouse.
Mello wonders something. "So if they find this warehouse for whatever reason will you just move everything?"
"Move anything important then burn it to the ground. Making sure that no one is aware of anything leaving it. If not possible then it will all just go down in flames." The man who seems to be taking charge of the group to help Mello and Matt set things up mentions as if it is no big deal.
Mello feels that it is a bit extreme only to tell himself that it is a gang so of course it'll be more extreme than it needs to be. "Cool." He shrugs and turns to look out the window that he is sitting next to. He blinks as he realizes something while staring at the sky.
Even if they do rescue Near it is likely that Near might not return to Whammy's after everything. He might go to live with the Shadows.
Of course Mello isn't backing out even with this knowledge. He will still rescue Near. Now he just needs to figure out how he can beat his rival when they won't be competing in test scores anymore. He doesn't want such an easy win as Near just giving up to hide with the gang his sister is a part of.
