Vanessa convinces General Falcon to ride a dragon to aid Drake in his duties in town, and Drake finds an injured dragon, he names Burst, in Gatineau Park. Noticing that this dragon is an undocumented species, he and Vanessa takes it in for care and closer study. The team name it a "Cometrident", but Shadow appears jealous and disasters start stirring on their way to Ottawa.

Drake attempts to find evidence that the Dragon-Eaters caused damage in town, hoping to exonerate the banished dragons. Meanwhile, Adam Hunter, leader of the Chicago Blackhawks, arrives in Ottawa with his troops to seek out and capture the Dragon King. It is only a matter of time before Drake and his friends attempt to stop Hunter and save Ottawa, while seeking to get Shadow back.

Drake pulls a prank on Captain Ironfist as revenge for the hardcore training, and she warns him afterwards. At night, the dragons are being blamed for vandalism in Ottawa, and Drake tries to prove their innocence, thinking it was Ironfist who is responsible. When the armory is destroyed and Shadow is accused of it, the dragons are sent away to the ruins of Montreal for good.

In the aftermath of the Ultimate War, Drake tries to control all the dragons in Ottawa in order to help Canada regain its former glory. But a dragon-slaying squad known as SC Reg shows up, and its Captain Rose "Ironfist" Tymbark intends to force Drake back into basic training, and to make matters worse, some of the civilians begin to question Drake's potential as the Dragon King.

The story takes place in a dystopian future when there's the Ultimate War (the battle of humans and dragons). A young teen named Drake Dalloway aspires to join the Canadian Forces and to avenge his father. After finally capturing his first dragon and with his chance at last gaining the acceptance, he finds that he no longer wants to kill it and instead befriends it.
