Furyou: You might. Power Tool Braver can make an appearance.
Chi: Eh… maybe. She has ways to mess with Aki's mind.
Chapter 40 – Psycho Shockers Invade
Two days have passed since the Diablo incident. The Signers have yet to find Aki, even a single clue. That is about to change.
On Neo Daedalus Bridge, Yusei is riding together with Mukuro Enjo under these cloudy skies. The latter says, "Just up ahead!"
"Are you sure?"
"Positive!"
Both continue driving until they reach the destination Enjo declares; underneath the bridge. In a small island corner, a man sits by a campfire covered in a tattered black cloak. The riders park two meters away, before dismounting to approach the person.
Yusei recognizes him. "Wait… aren't you a member of Team Catastrophe?"
"That team is dead now… I'm just Nicholas now," speaks the man, removing the hood of his cloak to reveal a face covered in leftover bandages dyed red.
"But, I saw you guys two days ago. What happened?"
Nicholas shivers in terror. "It was horrible… as soon as that whole robot nonsense happened, Hermann, Hans, and I decided to split town. We already failed to take out you guys, and I'm pretty sure our employer was trying to get rid of us with that card."
Yusei nods thinking about it, since that card he used on Jack affected Nicholas as well. "On our way out, we tried getting away from those machines. Only to run into real monsters."
"Real monsters?"
"They were attacked; a bunch of Duel Monsters popped up and struck them. But the weirdest thing is that they were hurt by them, like they were Shadow Cards like ours!"
Yusei picks at his brain, realizing something: from Aki's disappearance, these two attacked by duel monsters, and earlier the news of Divine's escape… "Damn it. Those were psychic duelists."
On alert, Yusei rushes to his D-Wheel to deliver the news to his friends. He turns on the monitor and contacts Crow; he should still be on house arrest for his arm, but knowing him, Crow's definitely out doing something he isn't supposed to.
While connecting, his screen shows white snow. 'A jamming?'
Suddenly, a face appears on his monitor, one he does not recognize. "Hello, Yusei Fudo."
"Who are you?!" Yusei shouts, staring at the hooded individual on the screen.
"It doesn't matter who we are. All that matters is the plan." He steps aside, exposing behind him dynamite strapped to the bridge.
"Are those flipping bombs?!" Enjo shouts in terror.
Yusei stares at the explosives, his eyes glazing over with rage.
"You're going to meet us at this location. Otherwise, the precious bridge you've been working hard to create will vanish in smoke." After that, a map of the Neo Daedalus Bridge shows Yusei's location. A blinking red light shows the person's. "You have ten minutes."
Elsewhere…
As Yusei is dealing with that, Jack Atlas is with Carly at a game store.
"Still nothing?" asks Carly frantically.
"This is the second time you've come to me looking for the same girl, and I still have nothing," speaks her information broker. "If you want to play out your detective fantasy roleplay, do it elsewhere."
"Damn it…" She digs into her backpack and pulls out a sexy figure of a spellcaster dressed in black and gold.
"GURAAAH! THAT'S THE LIMITED EDITION ARCANIST BLAMAGIGIRL FIGURE!" He takes it and adds it to his collection. "Although, I DO have some information about a woman in a white mask seen near the hospital she was in."
He hands over a few pictures taken, allowing Carly to get a look. "What the heck?"
Jack snatches one photo and looks at it. He sees the aforementioned woman staring approaching the hospital. "This is… the Black Rose Witch."
"But, that can't be Aki. I thought she gave that up!"
"She did…" Jack replies, handing the pictures back to her. He turns to the man hugging his new figure, asking, "Who took these pictures? Where are they?"
"The photos came from a video recording of the storm. It posted hours after when the power came back on and someone snipped her image," he tells them.
Jack realizes that someone enamored with her appearance kidnapped her. All they had to go on was the frail description of the little girl, but now this is more concrete. He walks out with Carly following suit. But before she leaves, she gets one last look at him. "You know she's probably 13 years old, right?"
"That hasn't been confirmed!" he retorts. "Besides, people get older!"
"Alright, alright." Carly shrugs before walking out of the store.
Outside, the girl checks more of the pictures. "Let's see…" The one at the end shows the masked woman using a Duel Monster to open the back exit.
"A psychic duelist…"
"That confirms it." Jack boards his D-Wheel and prepares to leave. "I'll go tell Yusei and the others. Thanks, Carly."
"No problem, Jack!" she says, watching her beloved man take off.
The Wheel of Fortune hits the main road. Stern, Jack types on his screen to contact Yusei or Crow. "Yusei! Crow! I have some information!"
Sadly, his screen is hijacked. A face he does not recognize appears. This blond, slightly chubby fellow smirks maliciously staring at Jack. "The fuck are you?!"
"You can call me Liquid. Of course, I have another name…" says Liquid with a scowl, before turning his eyes to the left of the screen. "The owner of that thing over there."
"Thing?" Jack looks over to his right, matching where Liquid is looking, and shouts, "Damn it!"
He swerves to avoid a tentacle reaching out and striking him. The purple and black tendril slams into the road, causing debris to break off. Jack stares at the next tendril to move, which raises its owner to the road. Liquid jumps off, and the monster disappears.
"A Psychic Duelist, huh? So you must be with the ones who kidnapped Izayoi!"
"That's right," says Liquid with a haughty tone, "but you won't have to worry about her. Because I'm here to get rid of you."
Angered, Jack removes his Duel Disk from his D-Wheel and activates it. "Then you're getting yourself into a world of hurt challenging Jack Atlas!"
"Yeah, I don't think I have to worry about the difficulties of killing someone who couldn't keep his title of King." The blond rider angrily scuffs at that.
'I'll show you. I hadn't driven off because if I left you here, you would destroy the bridge.'
"DUEL!"
Jack Atlas: 4000
Liquid: 4000
Liquid begins the duel first, drawing his card. "I activate Emergency Teleport."
In his Main Phase, a lab briefly forms in front of them. From it, a vial containment appears with an alien being inside. "It allows me to conjure a Psychic monster from my deck. Manifest, Test Subject Myutria ST-46!"
ST-46: 500/0 (3)
"What is this, a B movie?"
"Nope. This one will make it to theaters! ST allows me to add a Myutria Magic or Trap card." He reveals Myutant Fusion. "Next, Myutria allows me to release it and banish a card to special summon a Myutrial monster from my deck."
He reveals a monster card before slipping it into banishment. The card's essence enters the glass, merging with ST. It slowly mutates the extraterrestrial core, turning it into a beast-like being. As it grows, the glass shatters as the beast comes out. "Myutrial Beast."
Beast: 2400/2400 (8)
"I'll set one card and end my turn."
Jack scuffs before making his move, beginning with drawing a card. He examines it before slapping it onto the field. "I'll discard Dread Dragon to special summon Power Giant."
The crystal golem from his duel with Team Catastrophe returns to the field. "Due to this effect, Power Giant loses two levels."
Power Giant: 6→4
"Then, I summon Flare Resonator!" A blazing Resonator monster appears on the field, holding up its tuning fork. "I'll tune my level 4 Power Giant with my level 3 Tuner Flare Resonator!"
Jack's monsters enter the skies to become a new monster. "The ruler's shouts echo throughout! Hammer of victory, shatter the very earth! Synchro Summon!" His monster roars as it flaps its wings. "Flap your wings, Explode Wing Dragon!"
Explodewing Dragon: 2400→2700
"Flare Resonator increases the Synchro's attack by 300. This means your monster is dogmeat!" The dragon inhales. "Battle! ExplodeWing Dragon will attack Myutrial Beast! KING STORM!"
The powerful blast of flames erupts, contacting Beast. "Any monster with a lower attack power than ExplodeWing Dragon is automatically destroyed, and you take damage equal to its attack points!"
As the smoke clears, a monster is shown on the field next to Liquid, but his life points are set at 3700.
"What the? Why didn't it-"
"My trap card, Myutrias Super Colony." He reveals in his banishment the trap Myutant Expansion. "Upon activation, I can special summon a Myutrias monster from my deck. And, I can banish it incase you decide to destroy a Myutrial monster I control."
Myutant M-05: 0/500 (2)
"Upon summon, Myutria M-05 allows me to add one Myutria monster to my hand." He digs into his deck, revealing Myutant Mist. "Also, Beast allows me to add Super Colony to my hand." He then retrieves the trap he just banished.
"More of these ugly things?"
"You're no prize yourself, Jack." Liquid's little jab catches Jack's ear.
The Signer sets one card facedown before ending his turn. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Do you know about evolution? About growth? Change?" he begins, quieting Jack. "All species face adversities all of the time. To survive, we need to adapt to those adversities. Most organisms alter their bodies or abilities over the years. Humans do so by thinking around those adversities or changing their habits."
"Is there a meaning behind this science lesson?"
He gestures to Myutrias M-05. "These aliens have a special lore to them; they're a species collected from space to be experimented on, but their current forms could not handle our atmosphere. So, they adapted; they became various other monsters to escape their inhumane captivity. Because the truth is simple; only those who seek evolution can survive."
Liquid points to Jack. "Just what have you done since you lost your title? How have you changed since falling from grace?"
"I'm tired of having this conversation," Jack bellows angrily. "I will be a King in my way! I don't need some tubby psycho telling me what I already know!"
"Then why have you not changed since?" Jack grits his teeth in surprise. "You use the same Power shit show that lost you the Fortune Cup and that Beast guy. Why? Because you can't grow. You can't evolve. A species that cannot grow will simply die out, like all the others…"
Elsewhere…
Over in the garage, Lua and Luca are pacing out of worry. No wait, correction; Lua is pacing back and forth, annoying Luca. "Aki-neechan… I'm so worried. What are we going to do?"
"How about you stop walking in a circle? You're making me nauseous," she tells him.
"I'm just worried!"
"So am I…" Luca pulls her legs up in her seat to hug them.
Bruno enters the room and returns his attention to the computer. Seeing him, Lua asks, "Did you find anything?"
"Not as of yet. None of the cameras were working when she disappeared. I don't think it'll be possible with tech unless it was disconnected from the network."
At that moment, something happens that surprises all of them. The door to the garage explodes inward. A literal explosion with flames and a shockwave, knocking the kids and Bruno out of their seats. Smoke billows inside.
Bruno recovers first, slowly coughing as if he's relatively unaffected. He helps the twins, asking if they're okay. After checking them, he looks at the door to witness the monster responsible.
Android – Psycho Shocker.
"Psycho Shocker?"
As the smoke clears, the user steps in. He's a man in his late thirties with grey hair that gives him the illusion of being ancient. His bright red-orange scarf blows from the wind caused by his entrance. As the smoke clears, he examines the interior until he sees his target. 'There she is.'
"Alright, little girl. You're coming with me." He points to Luca, allowing Jinzo to move toward her.
The green-haired girl crawls away as the machine grabs her. Bruno immediately tackles the man and knocks him to the floor, causing the Jinzo card to fly off the duel disk. The duel monster disappears as a result, allowing Lua and Luca to run away.
The man kicks Bruno off before looking around for his target. While following, he notices the cards on the floor. He picks them up and notices they are Machine monsters, especially one in particular.
Upstairs, Lua and Luca throw on their Duelboard gear. Fully decked out, they head out the door. "Wait! I left my deck!"
"Dang it, Lua!" Luca shouts, knowing the importance of those cards to him. Then again, a psychic is trying to kill them. "Look, leave it. We have to get going!"
Before they can run, the psychic stands in their path with his duel disk active. He holds up the stack of cards that is Lua's deck in his free hand, showing it to him. "Hey! That's my deck!"
"Your deck, huh?" He places the cards on the ground before stepping away. "Who gave you these cards? Marufuji?"
Surprised, the boy asks, "You know about my teacher?"
Grinning, the ossan laughs almost maniacally. "Yes! A successor to the Cyber Style!"
"Cyber style?" Lua repeats.
"Oh, he didn't tell you?" He points at himself. "I am Makoto Inosume, the sole member of the Psychic Style of dueling and the rival of the Cyber Style. Your little teacher Sho was the last to inherit it until you studied from him. That made you the successor!"
"Sho?" Luca turns to Lua as if asking who that is. He recalls that name belonging to Ryo's younger brother, so that makes sense. But this is weird to think of; he's part of some legacy?
"I came here to capture the girl who can talk to spirits, but now that I'm in front of a Cyber Style duelist, I can kill two birds with one stone!" He stands firm, his duel disk active awaiting his response.
"A duel…" Lua looks back to Lua before going to pick up his cards. "You're not gonna let us go if we don't, will you?"
"Not unless you win."
"Fine." Lua inserts his deck before activating it.
"DUEL!"
Lua Titania: 4000
Makoto Inosume: 4000
"I'll let you have the first move," says the Psychic duelist with his arms crossed.
Lua holds up his hand to see what he can do. After drawing his card, and seeing Cyber Dragon, he can tell what that was about; he can't use Cyber Dragon with nothing on the field. But, he has other options. "I play the Deformer Map."
A field forms around them, but all that changes is the floor below them. They're standing on top of a map. "Next, I summon Deformer Radion in attack mode!"
A black and yellow radio appears to Lua's field. It switches modes, turning into a robot wielding a flail.
Radion: 1000/900 (4)
"Next, since I control a Deformer monster, I can special summon Deformer Laptopon!" The next one is a blue and yellow laptop that lands next to Radion. It rearranges and transforms, turning into a robot with a keyboard for a weapon.
Laptopon: 800/400 (2) Tuner
"Laptopon allows me to decrease Radion's level by 1." Laptopon presses buttons on the keyboard, before Radion downgrades.
Radion: 4→3
"I'll tune my two monsters together!" Laptopon presses the Enter button. It transforms into two rings that pass through Radion. "Synchro Summon!"
Appearing now is a strange-looking Wi-Fi server colored silver and yellow. "Roll out! Deformer Serveron!"
Serveron: 1800/2600 (5)
"Serveron's effect; I can add one Deformer card from my deck to my hand." He reveals Deformer Forcefield. "I'll set one card and end my turn!"
Makoto laughs before drawing his card. 'He definitely doesn't know.' "I activate the Law of the Cosmos." He reveals his spell, causing the world around them to shift. "This Magic Card allows you to set one trap card from your deck to the field."
"Really?" Lua looks at his deck. 'Well, I guess I might as well take advantage.' "I'll set Deformer Power Trailer." He takes his trap and sets it.
"Wait, Lua!" Luca shouts, knowing it's too late now.
"And… if you do, I can special summon Android – Psychic Shocker." He pulls out the machine menace and slaps it onto the field. Psychic electricity sparks around the monster as it rises, eyes trained on the Cyber duelist.
Jinzo: 2400/1500 (6)
"Geh! It's him! That's why he wanted me to play that card!"
"And that's your fault for not thinking. Now, you're going to face the terror of Psycho Shocker!" The android roars as it powers up. "As long as Psycho Shocker is face up on the field, you cannot activate trap cards or trap effects on the field and their continuous effects are negated.
"To follow up, I summon Psycho Bounder!" A machine-like magician appears to the field covered in mirrors.
Psycho Bounder: 1700/1000 (4)
"This card allows me to add this card to my hand; Cosmos Channeling." He reveals the spell card before adding it to his hand. He then plays another card. "I'll next use Cyber Energy Shock."
Psycho Shocker stretches his left hand forward as psychic energy billows from his body. It collects into a black ball. "I'll destroy one Trap card you control and then empower my android by 800."
The blast destroys the trap Forcefield, as the Machine monster grows in strength.
Jinzo: 3200
"Now, attack Deformer Serveron! Psychic Wave!" A pulse of psychic energy releases from the android, shattering the server robot.
"And now, Psycho Bounder will attack directly!" Light collects in the chest mirror before it fires, blasting Lua and sending him sprawling backward.
Lua: 2300
"Lua!" Luca shouts seeing her brother hurt.
"I'll activate Cosmos Channeling and end my turn." His Continuous Magic forms, causing psychic energy to billow around them.
Lua pushes himself back up. "Look at you, the Cyber Style successor… I may have lost to Sho, but I'll defeat the newest defending of that style no matter what!"
The little boy sighs before glaring. Something about what the man said doesn't sound right. "Wait… when was the last time you dueled him?"
"And what have you done with your life since?" Makoto is silent. "What are you, a loser?!"
"A loser about to wipe the floor with you!"
"More like a grown man taking his insecurities out on a little kid!" Luca shouts angrily.
"Age doesn't matter in a duel!" he snaps back.
"This isn't a duel! This is you attacking a kid so your boss can make more weapons!" Lua brushes himself off before he begins his turn. "It doesn't matter if you win; you'll never be anything!"
As soon as Lua draws, Psycho Shocker's eyes shine. "Cosmos Channeling activates; when you draw, I can declare a card type. If I get it right, I'll send this card to the graveyard and draw. And I declare…"
There's a pause in his voice. After fifteen seconds, Makoto says, "Magic card."
Lua flinches before revealing it, showing the card Cyclone. Laughing, Makoto ditches his card to draw. He looks at his card, thinking of how to play this out. He can use his quickplay magic to destroy the Map, but Serveron alone won't be enough. "I can still search…"
He pauses, thinking. He can't just do that. 'He's challenging me as a Cyber Style duelist, so I'll fight back at one… and make him see how stupid he is for all of this!'
Elsewhere in the Daimon Area…
Over at a repair garage, Mizoguchi is hard at work repairing the unicorn D-Wheel belonging to Sherry. After Jose punched it into the water, he had to replace so many waterlogged parts. Not to mention the duel disk belonging to Sherry had to get repaired too.
'But it'll be worth it once we get it back to working order…' As he tightens a screw on the engine, he thinks about what this will lead to. His lady will return to battle and attack the two remaining men responsible for the deaths of his masters, who are her parents, all to lose her life in the end. Jose may have been right; it's not a healthy mindset.
"Mizoguchi." He stops working, turning to face the woman who has arrived. Sherry in more casual clothing comes forth to examine his progress.
"Milady, you shouldn't be up. You're still recovering," he tells her with worry, getting up to approach her.
"I'll be fine. It was shallow, after all…" Sherry touches her chest where the blade sliced her and feels the padding still on her. "How is everything?"
"The D-Wheel itself works fine, but the motherboard is still waterlogged. It's just another motorcycle for the time being."
"I guess that's a step forward," she resigns to the problem and steps away.
As she does, her eyes widen suddenly. She turns around to look at the door, screaming, "Mizoguchi!"
In seconds, the door blows open, and both she and Mizoguchi are sent flying backward as a result. Smoke fills the innards of the garage along with flames. Sherry recovers first having felt the blow the least, staring out at the opening made through the fogging mist conjured by the smoke while futilely resisting all demands to cough.
There stands a duelist wearing spectacles with a dragon flying behind him. His serpent snarls before disappearing, allowing the man to step inside undeterred. Crossing his arms, he watches as Sherry picks herself up.
"Mizoguchi?" She checks her bodyguard, seeing he took the brunt of the blast. "Mizoguchi!"
"You did well to dodge that. I guess he was right about you, Sherry LeBlanc," speaks the man, staring at her through his tiny glasses.
"He?"
"My name is Okita, and I'm here for you… or, rather, he is." He steps outside.
"You bastard!" She intends to follow but refuses to leave Mizoguchi's side as he coughs.
"I'll be fine, Milady…" he tells her, coughing up a storm.
"Don't worry. I'll get him for you!" Sherry rushes to the wall and pulls out a fire extinguisher before using it to put out the fire. Once the worst is dealt with, she tosses it aside and heads for an undamaged table, and pulls out Mizoguchi's Duel Disk resting on it. She attaches it and her deck from within her pocket before rushing after Okita.
Outside, she finds the man responsible standing across the street. He hides behind the large crowd of people gathered to check the damage he unknowingly caused. She pushes past the people in pursuit of the perpetrator, prepared to pulverize him.
After coming to a less populated zone of the Daimon area, she loses track of him. Closing her eyes, she pauses. Soon, she reopens before heading in a specific direction over to a damaged duel arena. There, she tracks the man she's been looking for. Another person stands with him, but she doesn't seem surprised about him.
"That explains a lot, Divine," Sherry says with a scowl while glaring at the two.
"Nice to know you were expecting me…" Divine laughs with no care. "You're just as I was expecting, Sherry LeBlanc. I think this is our first meeting."
"This will be our last meeting if we're lucky." Sherry narrows her eyes. "Why are you here?"
"Don't you know? Your importance?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Sure you don't…" Divine activates his Duel Disk. "This duel will show you what I mean."
Sherry activates her Duel Disk in response.
"DUEL!"
Divine: 4000
Sherry LeBlanc: 4000
Lightz: And that ends this chapter. If you're wondering about the wait, it's because… well, to be honest, I have just bought some games that have taken my attention away. That, and this arc needed the most care in crafting. Next chapter, you will see the conclusion to two duels and the beginning of two others. And I'll try to reduce the wait time.
