Episode 8: Up The Creek

"Last time on Total Drama Island! The competitors were forced to conquer their deepest, darkest fears. Not all of them succeeded, but others surprised the group and faced their fears head-on!"

"In a shocking twist, Damien let the Bass down when he couldn't face his fear of mud. But luckily, a non-elimination twist kept him in the game."

"Once again, the Bass find themselves behind. Can they pull this one out of the water? Find out today, on Total! Drama! Island!"

(Theme Song)

The episode opened with the teams all lined up and listening to Chris. "Bass, Gophers! Today's challenge is a true summer camp experience. A canoe trip!" Chris turned around and the camera zoomed out to show seven canoes on the sand – four red, four green.

"You'll be paddling your canoes across the lake," Chris continued, "to Boney Island! When you get there, you must portage your canoes to the other side of the island. Which, is about a two-hour hike through treacherous, dense, jungle!"

"We've gotta por-what?" Geoff asked in confusion.

"Por-ta-ge," Chris repeated slowly. A fly was shown buzzing around Geoff's blank expression. "Dude, walk with your canoe!"

"Oh," Geoff realized.

"When you arrive at the other end of the island," Chris resumed, "you'll build a rescue fire that will be judged by me! The first team to paddle home and return their canoes to the beach is the winner of invincibility!" The teens ran past him. "Move, campers, move!"

"Oh, wait!" he called after them, causing the campers to stop and look back at him. "One more thing I should mention! Legend has it, if you take anything off the island, you'll be cursed forever!"

The campers were shown gaping as thunder cracked. "A cursed island?" Millie said in shock.

"Now!" Chris began again. "Get in your canoes, and let's have some fun!" he smiled as the campers continued to walk towards the beach.

A toilet flushed off-screen and Priya came running into the shot. "Did I miss anything?" she asked quickly.

"Canoes," Chris answered plainly, and Priya dashed off to join her teammates.

Confessional: Chase

"Chris told us to pick a paddle partner," Chase explained in the confessional, "so I decided on Gwen. This is my last chance to woo her. If not, I can move on from her."

Confessional Ends

The campers walked down the stairs to the beach. Gwen was taking her time until Chase got close to her. "Hey there! Wanna partner up with me?" Chase shot her a smile.

Gwen raised an eyebrow. "No." She looked over her shoulder and saw Millie walking down. "Millie," she got the author's attention. "Do you want to be my partner?"

"Sure!" Millie agreed, and the two girls walked down the stairs, leaving Chase to sigh.

Confessional: Chase

"It's kinda strange how quick Gwen was to shoot me down and pick someone else," Chase brought up. "I usually get picked first when it comes to stuff like sports."

Confessional: Gwen

"Chase? He's like a fly that won't stop swarming around you no matter how much you swat it away," Gwen confessed. "He's okay though."

Confessionals End

"Hey Chase," Trent told the boy. "I'll work with you if it isn't any trouble."

"Wicked!" Chase smiled.

Izzy tried pushing her and Sky's canoe to the water, but ended up flipping over to the seat. "Just follow my technique. I'm one-eighty-seventh Cherokee, you know? Which means, like, the tribe could totally, like, claim me at any time."

Sky pushes the canoe into the water. "I hope they come soon," she muttered.

Over on the Bass, Priya watched as Scott placed his arm around Sam and dragged him to a canoe. She then looked behind to see Damien waving at her, and she waved as well… "Rodney! Be my partner?!"

Damien saw Rodney walk down past him as he got to Priya, and he facepalmed heavily.

Confessional: Damien

"Priya probably didn't pick me because of how I botched the last challenge," Damien moaned. "On the other hand, she's still friendly towards me. I just can't understand."

Confessional Ends

"Damien, you can have me as your canoe buddy," Geoff smiled as he walked by.

"Sure," Damien shrugged and followed the party guy.

Rodney put on a life jacket and looked at his and Priya's canoe. "Do canoes tip over a lot?"

"I don't think so," Priya responded. "Why are you asking?"

"I'm the heaviest boy on the team, and even though you're one of the lightest, I'm pretty sure my weight would tip us over," Rodney explained.

"I'm pretty sure we'll be fine on the water," Priya said and put her life jacket on.

Confessional: Rodney

"I'm so heavy, I once broke a table and a chair just by standing on it," Rodney told the viewers. "Being raised on a farm can build up a lot of muscle inside you."

Confessional: Priya

"I have something to talk to Rodney about, and if we're going to talk privately and away from our own teammates, then now would be the best opportunity," Priya explained.

Confessionals End

Ripper and Brick were shown dragging their canoe into the water, and Trent and Chase were trying to do the same, though Trent was on the canoe while Chase was trying to pull it. "I've got this," the daredevil said.

"Do you need any help?" Trent asked his teammate. "We're about to be far behind."

"Nah, I'm good," Chase refused. He kept on trying to pull the canoe until his hands slipped from it and he fell into the water, causing Trent to sigh before he got off the canoe and pushed it into the water.

As Priya brought her canoe into the water, she was startled by Rodney placing a big rock in front of her. "Why is there a rock next to me?" she asked.

"I put the rock on your side so we wouldn't fall over," Rodney answered. "That rock combined with me and your weight equals a balanced canoe."

The footage skipped forward and the camera panned across the various sub-teams lined up in their canoes, then zoomed to the host on the beach. He cocked a starting pistol, and raised it into the air. "On your marks! Get set! Paddle!" He fired the gun, and the frantic screech of a bird could be heard over a shot of the race beginning. The scene cut briefly back to Chris as a large eagle fell out of the sky in front of him. "That's gonna provoke some angry emails," he stated.

The campers were shown rowing their way across the lake, and the camera focused in on Chase and Trent.

"Dude, there's something I have to tell you," Chase started.

"What's up?" Trent asked him.

"See, the thing is, I'm crushing on Gwen and I've been striking out a lot," Chase explained.

"How so?" Trent grew curious.

"I tried talking with her and complimenting her, but she either ignores me or tells me to leave her alone," Chase said. "I asked her to be my canoe partner, but she turned me down and went with Millie instead."

"Gwen's just a hard person to get to know," Trent said, "and even though I forgot to dig her up, she forgave me for that."

"I'm thinking of moving on from her," Chase continued. "What's the point of flirting with her if she's just gonna turn me down?"

"That's a smart decision," Trent agreed wholeheartedly. "If someone's not interested in you, you have to respect their wishes."

"Yeah, you're right about that," Chase nodded halfheartedly.

"You can try talking to the other girls on our team if you're still interested in love," Trent added.

"I could, but you have a thing going on with Sky and Izzy's nuts," Chase said. "Millie's hot, but I don't think we'd have much in common."

"You don't have to be alike just to know a specific person," Trent advised. "It's all about having common ground with each other."

Chase looked at the sky in thought. "I guess I can try and get to know Millie more, but we should focus on the challenge."

Confessional: Chase

"Millie's not the most exciting girl around, but with Izzy and Sky on my team, I'd prefer being with someone that won't get me killed or outdo me in stunts," Chase confided.

Confessional Ends

The camera focused on Izzy and Sky as Izzy was telling the gymnast one of her stories. "And these bushmen taught us how to properly catch and cook crocodile, as well as koala."

"Isn't killing a koala bear illegal here in Canada?" Sky asked.

"Oh, I dunno. Probably, yeah." Izzy laughed as Sky stayed unamused. "Probably, it's illegal."

The scene cut to Geoff and Damien. "Can I tell you something, Geoff?" Damien opened. "I'm in love with Priya but lately, I think she's been avoiding me."

The scene cut to Priya and Rodney. "Don't freak out or anything, but I know you're interested in Jasmine," Priya spoke up, "and I want to help you."

The scene went back to Damien and Geoff. "I don't know why, but you probably did a couple things wrong when you're around her," Geoff said.

The scene went back to Rodney and Priya. "Jasmine's a beautiful goddess," Rodney admitted, "and I want her to know how I feel about her."

"What do you mean?" Damien asked Geoff.

"I heard you put down Priya's camping skills that day, Damien, and you usually complain about the outdoors," Geoff truthfully explained.

"Me and Jasmine have talked, and she likes the sensitive and strong type," Priya detailed.

"That's great, but I need the words to confess or she won't understand me, Priya," Rodney grumbled.

"I'm just someone who prefers the indoors, and I wasn't trying to upset Priya that time," Damien defended himself. "Anyway, I don't want to repeat those mistakes again, so what can I do to let her know that I care?"

"If I was in your situation, I'd go over to the arts & crafts center and make a gift that symbolizes love," Geoff listed. "I'd suggest creating a heart-shaped bowl."

"A heart-shaped bowl?" Damien raised an eyebrow. "I'll make something, but that is off-limits. Girls hate those types of things."

"Whatever floats your boat," Geoff said.

"Didn't you perform poetry during the talent show, Rodney?" Priya brought up to the country boy. "I remember you speaking from the heart and feeling like nothing can hurt you. Use that to talk to Jasmine."

Rodney smiled gratefully. "You've got the right idea," he said, "and speaking of love…"

"I know what you're going to say," Priya giggled. "Damien's sweet, but I want to focus more on winning before I can start a relationship with him, and he's making that easier."

"Fully noted," Rodney snorted good-heartedly.

(Commercial Break)

The footage was now on Gwen and Millie. "I can't believe we're going onto a cursed island," Millie said in disbelief. "I have a lot to write about when we get back to camp."

"I don't really care about curses. As long as we don't pick anything up from that island, we're good," Gwen said. "I don't want to bother you, but what's your book about?"

"To summarize, it's about the world and how much has changed from the past to now," Millie claimed before fog began to appear in front of the campers, lightly at first but thickening by the second. "Hey, was that there earlier?" Millie asked.

"I don't think so," Gwen answered.

The camera zoomed out to show the canoes gliding through a part of the lake infested with fog and rocks. The map of Boney Island appeared on-screen and faded into a shot of the island itself as Chris' words were repeated. "You'll be paddling your canoes across the lake, to Boney Island!" Blanketed in mist and pines, the most prominent feature of the new landscape was a central skull-shaped mountain looking out over the lake.

The campers looked wary as they paddled closer, and as the first few canoes ran ashore, the focus was put on Izzy and Sky.

"Okay. Did you see that skull?" Izzy said with no fear and jumped out of her canoe. "How cool is that?! It's like this place is haunted or something!"

They then heard the sounds of vicious creatures from the jungle of the island.

"Let's just get this over with," Gwen said as she and Millie carried their canoe.

The two teams were shown running through the forest, passing an eerie number of impaled skulls along the trail. A large tree fell in front of the Screaming Gophers, and Millie cried out as several pairs of yellow eyes opened in the darkness around them.

"I think I saw something," Millie said, looking around in fear.

A large animal with shaggy brown fur, bucked teeth, and gnarled tusks popped its head into view. Several more followed, and a few of the beasts even took heavy steps towards the terrified campers.

"Monster beavers!" Millie yelled as she turned her canoe and ran screaming.

Confessional: Chris

"A remnant of the Pleistocene era," Chris delved in, "the Woolly Beaver is a day-active rodent indigenous to Boney Island. Oh yeah, and they're meat-eaters!" he finished with a wink.

Confessional Ends

The Screaming Gophers were shown running away from the beavers. They passed a bear rubbing its back against a tree, who watched the chase in confusion and pulled out a pair of eyeglasses to watch what had occurred.

The Gophers continued running away. "Dead end!" Chase exclaimed as the group came upon a shallow pool nestled against a dead-end cliff. There were numerous gatherings of grass and twigs dotted along the cliffside, and the beavers were shown giving up their pursuit at the edge of the pool.

"Hey, they're leaving!" Trent noted.

"Strange, considering that they would normally kill us regardless of where we are," Millie said.

"But at least they left us alone. Take that!" Chase cheered in a voice loud enough to raise a head from every nest along the wall of rock.

The animals had coloration reminiscent of Canada Geese, but they were much larger, had elongated heads, and possessed bills full of teeth.

"I think somebody will need a change of shorts," Ripper said in shock.

The shot cut to the Screaming Gophers running and screaming passed the same glasses-wearing bear, this time with the monster geese in pursuit. The bear, apparently unaccustomed to such sights, snapped its glasses with a grunt.

"Someone figure something out!" Chase cried.

"We just need to distract these geese so they'll stop following us!" Sky claimed.

Ripper took out two fishtails. "I've been saving these since the camping challenge!" He hurled them behind him, and the geese managed to stop and observe the food.

"It worked!" Gwen spoke out before the Killer Bass passed by them.

"Come on! The race isn't over yet! We still have to burn stuff!" Izzy declared as they took off.

The footage cut to the Killer Bass looking at the two paths. "Which way are we gonna go?" Rodney asked.

"I say left," Damien insisted.

"We should take the one on the right cause it's the "right" path," Scott said.

"The right trail is wider," Priya noticed. "Let's go through there," she said, and the Bass moved to the trail.

The shot cut back to the Gophers. "I can see the other team!" Ripper exclaimed.

"They're going right!" Millie added.

"Then we should head left!" Chase declared.

The scene skipped ahead to the Gophers moving through the dense forest. Chase and Trent suddenly began to sink into the ground. "Guys, uh, don't wanna panic here, but we're shrinking!" Trent yelled out.

Confessional: Trent

"Right. How am I supposed to know what quicksand looks like?" Trent questioned. "It looks just like sand."

Confessional: Chris

Chris laughed from within the outhouse. "Can you believe they fell for that?" he asked the camera. "I set it up, but I didn't think anyone would walk into it! That's just great!"

Confessionals End

"I can't die like this," Chase said as he and Trent continued to sink. "I haven't even become big on the internet!"

"Help! Someone help us!" Trent cried.

Millie ran up to the quicksand. "You two, give me your canoe," she instructed the boys, and they did as told.

"What is your plan?" Chase asked.

"Chase, hold onto the front of the canoe, and Trent, hold on to Chase's arm," Millie ordered as she held the canoe towards them, and they followed her instructions.

"You're going to need muscle if you want those lugs out," Ripper bragged and made his way to Millie.

"That would be helpful. Now pull at the back with me," Millie said as she and the bully dragged the canoe through the sand before lifting it up. Trent and Chase struggled to get out of the quicksand, but eventually, they escaped and were now back on ground, the rest of their team cheering for the rescue.

"Whoa. Hey, thanks Millie," Trent congratulated the author. "You saved both of us from dying."

"Definitely," Chase grinned and offered her a fist bump, to which she accepted. "You're much cooler than I thought."

Millie smiled bashfully. "Well, it was out of instinct and personal experience. You're welcome."

"Don't forget that I helped as well!" Ripper interrupted. "We gotta go!"

"Just when things were looking up for the Bass," Chris's voice-over said as the scene cut to the other team, focusing on Damien and Geoff as the latter fell forward suddenly, "disaster struck!"

"My leg!" Geoff cried. "I'm down! I'm down! Oh, it's so unfair!" He held his numb leg. "Why did this have to happen now? Oh! Why? Why?!"

"Geoff, what happened?" Priya called out in concern as she went to go check on him.

"You've gotta go on without me!" Geoff told them.

"If you say so," Scott turned to walk away only for Priya to hold his arm.

"We're not leaving anyone behind!" Priya said firmly. "Geoff is staying with us!"

Confessional: Geoff

"I didn't know if I was gonna make it," Geoff said and sharply inhaled. "It was touch-and-go."

Confessional: Rodney

"I've had my animals get injured before," Rodney told the camera, "but not to this degree!"

Confessional: Priya

"He stuck with us despite his problem!" Priya said. "Now that is strength!"

Confessionals End

The camera cut to a close-up of a jagged piece of wood stuck in Geoff's flesh. It zoomed out to feature him lying on top of a canoe carried by Eva and Rodney.

The Gophers were already at the beach and working on their fire, surprising the Bass. Brick was rubbing two sticks together and Ripper was banging two little rocks to make some sparks to try and get a fire going.

They stopped when they saw the Bass already had a fire going as Eva blew at the flame to make it bigger. "How did they do that so quickly?" Ripper demanded, and he got his answer when Sam cleaned his glasses and put them back on his face.

The shot cut to Chris piloting a small red helicopter. "No rule against using glasses and the sun to make fire!" he announced. "Edge: Killer Bass!"

Jasmine and Rodney were shown gathering wood off the beach for their team while Scott walked over to a bush. His eyes went wide as he saw a small wooden carved idol inside.

The clip of Chris' warning at the beginning of the challenge was flashed back to. "If you take anything off the island, you'll be cursed forever!"

Scott grinned before he picked the idol up and went back to his team.

The camera cut over to Millie and Trent as they were next to a rock holding wood. "What happened back there was crazy," Trent said, "but thanks for helping me out."

"Of course," Millie told the musician. "I just didn't want you and Chase to die when we've only known each other for a few weeks."

"I think I know of a way for you and Chase to know each other a bit," Trent calmly brought up.

"Really?!" Millie's eyes lit up. "What is it?"

"You clearly didn't save our lives for something in return, and Chase knows it," Trent said. "Just say you want to switch canoe buddies, and he'll be up for it."

"Alright," Millie nodded.

"Hey you two!" Izzy popped up on screen. "If you have any more firewood, bring it to the firepit for a big surprise."

Meanwhile, Geoff was dragging himself across the floor with one arm, having managed to gather some sticks. When he made it to the fire pit, he flung the sticks into the fire.

"I can check on Geoff's wound," Priya said. "I have first aid training."

"Good luck," Damien patted Priya on the back. "Hopefully he doesn't get gangrene, jungle rot, athlete's foot…" The nervous wreck shuddered. "Not going to think about that."

Priya got a hold of Geoff's leg. "How did a small splinter hurt you?" Priya wondered.

"My leg is probably sensitive to these kinds of things," Geoff guessed.

"I don't think this is going to be big enough," Damien said as he looked at their fire that wasn't getting bigger.

"We need more wood, guys!" Rodney announced.

Scott heard those words, and after looking at the oars, he made a dash for them, collected them all, and threw them into the fire. Everyone watched in horror as they had now lost their paddling oars to the fire thanks to their teammate.

"How are we supposed to get back now?!" Damien yelled at Scott.

"You guys asked for wood," Scott sniffed.

On the Gopher's side, Izzy held a ball of glob. "This ought to do the trick! It's a handmade fire-starter I made from some tree sap and saved. Stand back, guys," the wild child grinned wildly. "This is gonna be big."

Her teammates silently obeyed, and Izzy tossed the ball into the fire. The camera switched to a full shot of the beach they were on as the fire suddenly tripled in size. Chris was shown watching from his helicopter, Gwen and Brick were shown shielding their eyes, and the Bass were shown with mouths wide open.

"We have our fire building winner!" Chris announced. "Point for the Gophers!"

"Where did you learn to do that, cause that was epic," Chase said.

Izzy had soot on her and was sitting on the floor as a result of the explosion. "Oh, you know. I spent a summer training with the reserves." She stood up. "Yeah, I got into some trouble there and like, blew up the kitchen by accident, which is why the RCMP is like, still all over my butt. I am so totally AWOL!"

The scene cut to the canoes sitting in the water, panning left to show both teams approaching them.

"Hey guys," Millie stopped Gwen, Chase, and Trent. "Since you two are probably still stirred up by the quicksand problem, we should split you up. I can paddle back with Chase, and Gwen can paddle back with Trent."

"Sure. You did save me after all," Chase said with a smile.

Gwen walked past Millie and gave her a knowing smile.

"What are we going to do without paddles?" Damien asked his team.

"You guys could get someone to swim behind the boats and push them," Izzy spoke up to the Bass. "I did that once for this huge, like, 60-foot yacht. The whole crew had to flutter kick for like, 80 days to get to shore. And like, four of us got eaten by sharks. I didn't. Not me. But it was really insane. Okay, later!" She got startled by Sky angrily paddling forward.

"That could work!" Priya said.

"We need someone strong enough to do it, and there're two guys for the job," Scott eyed Rodney and Geoff.

"I'll do it!" Geoff cried out. "It's not that hard."

"Your leg is still injured," Rodney stopped the party guy. "I'll be the one to step up."

Confessional: Rodney

"I haven't been to many swimming classes, but once again, the team needs me," Rodney stated boldly.

Confessional Ends

The Killer Bass's canoes were stacked on top of each other with the team on top of the stack and Rodney pushing them forward. The team cheered as they passed the Screaming Gophers at high speed. "Rodney! Rodney! Rodney! Rodney!" Geoff celebrated.

Rodney was so focused on his pushing that he didn't see the rock in front of them. They flew off the rock like a ramp, flew over Chris, and crashed on the other side of the beach, but they still made it before the Gophers.

"The Bass are the winners!" Chris announced, leading to the Bass all cheering.

The Gophers reached the beach, and Sky was shooting daggers at Izzy. "You cost us the challenge by helping the other team!" she reprimanded.

"You are so lucky that my license to kill is currently expired," Izzy said blissfully, making Sky simply walk past her in irritation.

A wolf was shown howling against the moon as the elimination ceremony began. "And now," Chris said, "the always anxiety-inducing," he spun the plate of treats on one finger, "marshmallow ceremony." The camera panned across the Screaming Gophers. "When I call your name, come and get a marshmallow."

"Brick!"

"Trent!"

"Gwen!"

"Chase!"

"Millie!"

"Ripper!"

"One last marshmallow," Chris announced to a nervous Sky and a smiling Izzy. "The person who doesn't get this marshmallow will walk off the Dock of Shame and take a ride on the Boat of Losers. Who's it gonna be?"

Suddenly, a helicopter was heard and everyone looked up to see one flying above them with a searchlight shining down from it and put onto Izzy. "Izzy!" a voice called out from the helicopter. "We know you are down there! You are under arrest!"

"You mean all your stories were true?" Ripper asked with a surprised look. "How much more awesome can you get?"

"No. Just the RCMP part. See ya!" Izzy said before standing up. "YOU'LL NEVER GET ME ALIIIIIIIVE!" she cried out. She then laughed as she quickly ran away, the helicopter following her.

"Well, that wraps that up," Chris said as everyone was shocked by what happened. "Night, everyone."

The camera focused on the Bass cabin, and the music became ominous and eerie. Scott was currently sleeping on his bunk, and the shot focused on the wooden idol from Boney Island next to his head. Lightning flashed, and the scene rapidly zoomed out to the full shot of the island as the feed cut to static.

Author's Note: I saw no reason to save Izzy from her canon fate. Also, let the whole Chase and Gwen side plot show you that at best, there will just be one-sided crushes between Gen 1-3 and the Reboot cast and pretty much all the time it'll be from the Reboot's side.
