Winter Break was over and classes resumed at Duel Academy. Right now, gym class was running and everyone presently in class was playing tennis with pairs. Jaden and Syrus were playing against Mindy and Jasmine.
"Come on, would someone tell me what does tennis have to do with dueling?" He asked as Syrus returned the ball with his racket.
"Everything!" Mindy replied. "Taking turns, thinking on your feet and the more you play..." She paused for a moment to hit the ball in the air, heading right for Jaden. "...the better you'll do!"
"In that case..." Jaden leaped into the air to deal a powerful strike, but at a bad angle as the tennis ball curved away from the court he was at to the neighboring one, and it was about to hit someone...
Ash then hit the ball and it was sent in a different direction towards someone else.
"Alexis!" Jasmine and Mindy were the first to come over to check on her. "You almost got creamed, are you okay?"
"Yeah, would you like me to carry you to the nurse?" The brown-haired guy said, turning to face the girls, flashing Jasmine and Mindy a grin...which ensnared them right off the bat as their eyes turned into hearts.
"I got it." Ash volunteered to take Alexis to the infirmary after she was nearly hit by a tennis ball.
"You don't need to do that, Ash." Alexis politely told him that his help wasn't necessary.
Unknowingly, the tennis guy was entranced with Alexis.
"Naw, it's just that...I've seen you from Obelisk Blue, not that I've had the chance of talking to you..." The brown-haired man said, who was obviously ensnared by Alexis as he grasped Alexis's hand in a gentlemanly manner before realizing what he was doing, and stopped. "...let alone touch you!"
"Sweet." Alexis said, still not entirely sure what was going on.
"Anyway." The brown-haired man asked, "Back to my match...um, what was the score? Love."
"Pika." Pikachu thought that he was crazy.
Everyone just stared as he went off.
"You two did this!" Crowler yelled.
At the nurse's office, Crowler was getting treated for his black eye and forehead bump while ordering Jaden and Ash to come with him for their punishment.
"Look, we're really, really, really, really, really sorry for your eye." Jaden said. "How's that?"
"Nope...still not good enough." Crowler fumed as Miss Fontaine, who was there also, swung his head over to her as she doused the black eye in a bag of ice. "A little harder next time, my vertebrae are still intact!" He said angrily to the nurse.
"You know Dr. Crowler. if you don't mind me saying so, Jaden wasn't even the one who hit the ball back at you." Miss Fontaine stated trying to calm the angry doctor to no effect.
"I do mind!" Crowler retorted, pointing to the boys. "Because he was the one that started it, I'm sure of it! I saw with my own two eyes!" Fontaine gasped and sweat-dropped as the Dr. corrected himself. "Well one eye now..."
"Look if you're gonna punish us, I won't play tennis anymore; I don't even like it."
Crowler smirked at the Slifer. "Well, that can be a fitting punishment for you." He declared. "I'll make you play and under the tutelage of the tennis captain, to whip you into shape!"
"I said I was sorry."
Crowler just got in his face and said, "And you will be...along with Ash."
In the ladies' locker room, Alexis was putting her gym clothes in her locker after putting her normal academy clothes on.
"Hey Alexis!" She turned to see Jasmine and Mindy, back in their Academy uniforms, with smiles.
"We found out about that hot tennis guy for you." Mindy said with a giddy smile as she and Jasmine reached her.
"Okay." Alexis calmly stated.
"His name's Harrington Rosewood."
"And."
"Listen, I'm not looking for a boyfriend right now..." Alexis said.
'Well, that's not really true.' She thought in her head. 'There's someone specific I want to ask out.'
"Service!"
At the tennis courts Harrington was putting Jaden through a major workout as he kept serving tennis balls at him with amazing speed.
"Come on no pain, no gain!" Harrington said. "You gotta hustle to build those muscles!"
Syrus, Jasmine and Mindy were currently watching over at the sidelines.
"I get it, this guy's a total nut." Syrus stated. "The clichés, the crazy practicing..."
"You know, now that I think on it, he is a bit obsessive." Jasmine added.
"More like a idiot." Ash grumbled.
"Let him obsess over me." Mindy continued.
Meanwhile, Jaden continued their practice until he was swung off-balance, and knocking him down and sending the tennis balls rolling towards a pair of feet.
Ash picked the tennis ball up.
Harrington turned around at that, to see Alexis walk up to them.
"Sorry I'm all sweaty." Harrington said as he walked up to her. "I've been busy kicking his-"
Alexis ignored him.
"Hey Ash, I just learned where Chazz is." Alexis told him.
"Where?" He asked.
Harrington wasn't too happy about this and stormed over to him.
"TIME OUT!"
Alexis and Jaden jumped at seeing Harrington storm over to Ash.
"You can't be talking to a first-round pick like Alexis!" Harrington argued. "You couldn't return a bucky-whip with some topspin, so just stay away from my Obelisk pixie!"
"Uh." Ash had no idea why Harrington was yelling at him.
"Chill out." Ash said. "So, you were saying Lex..."
"Lex!?" Harrington got right in the middle of them, forcing Jaden to jump back a bit. "What is that, some kind of pet name!? Where'd that name come from!? What's it short for!?"
"...Alexis." Jaden replied, flatly.
"That's it!" Harrington said. "This huddle's over..."
"Mind your own business then." Ash demanded.
"No way, bro. Know your sports. When a huddle is over, you make your play, you don't run away."
"So what, you want a tennis match?"
"Not quite. I wanna duel. Winner becomes Alexis's fiancé."
"I just love weddings!" Mindy said excitedly.
"Yeah, but I'm not sure about arranged ones." Jasmine said.
"I'll take you on." Ash was still somewhat dense and didn't really understand the stakes.
Alexis flashed a smile at him. Ash was someone that didn't tolerate people disrespecting his friends.
He then activated his duel disk.
"Here we go." Jasmine sighed.
"This is great." Mindy squealed, talking to Alexis. "Two cute boys dueling for your hand in marriage!"
"I'm not getting married." Alexis told her.
"Pika." Pikachu sweat dropped.
"Well, fine, you're getting engaged, why split hairs?" Jasmine said with a smile.
"I'm not getting engaged either." She added.
"The only reason I haven't walked out of here is because I want to see if the rumors that Harrington is as good as Zane."
'As good as my brother?' Syrus turned to Harrington with worry on his face, 'Oh boy... then he must be a better duelist than tennis player.'
Later Ash and Harrington had their duel disks ready.
"I hope you're ready." Harrington said.
"Ready to win." Ash replied.
"DUEL!"
Ash: 4000
Harrington: 4000
"Service!" Harrington shouted as he drew. "First, I'm gonna volley a Spell Card at ya...Service Ace!" Harrington inserted the card into his disk, before addressing their opponents. "I pick a card from my hand, and you can guess whether it's a Spell, Trap or Monster. If you guess right, you're fine, but if you guess wrong...then you two get served with a stinging 1500 points of damage!"
Ash kept quiet as Harrington did that.
"Well, what do you choose?" Harrington asked, holding up a card and showing the back of it.
"Hmm, a trap." He stated.
Harrington smirked. "You sure. You can still change your mind."
Ash then decided to change his answer. "Okay monster!"
"You're right." Harrington turned the card over, a Mega Thunderball.
"Since you guessed correctly, nothing will happen."
"I'll just place these cards face down, and finish the set!" Two face down cards appeared in front of him.
"My move then." Ash drew and glanced at his hand. "I summon Luster Dragon."
"Now I'll attack you directly."
"I play the Receive Ace trap card. This negates your attack and deals 1500 points of damage after I send the top three cards on my deck to the graveyard."
"I'll end with this." A face down card appeared in front of him.
"Back to me." Harrington drew.
"I play Smash Ace! This lets me turn over the card on the top of my deck, and if it's a monster..."
"I'll probably take damage." Ash guessed.
"That's correct." Harrington pulled out the top card, looked it over, and then held it out, "A monster, ha!"
Ash: 2000
Harrington pointed to Ash, "Activate Smash Ace's effect!"
"Not if Magic Jammer has anything to say about it." He placed a card in his graveyard. "Now Smash Ace is negated."
Harrington smiled as he put the card he drew in his pocket. "Oh well, you win some, you lose some!"
"This duel's not gonna last much longer." Syrus said.
"You're right." Jasmine agreed as did Alexis.
Mindy giggled. "I can imagine Harrington laughing while I tickle him!"
"This duel is reaching his climax." Ash drew a card. "Luster Dragon, attack."
Luster Dragon spewed a stream of fire that burned away Harrington's life points.
Harrington: 2100
"It won't be much longer until this duel ends." Ash said out loud.
"It's my move and I play Double Summon to bring Big Server and Acrobat Monkey." Harrington stated. "Then I use my other face down Ring of Destruction."
Acrobat Monkey exploded.
"Then I use the Counter Strike spell card. When a trap is activated, by paying 100 life points you take 1000 points of damage." Harrington explained.
Purple energy covered Ash's body.
Harrington: 1000
Ash: 1000
"For my next move, I activate Deuce."
"Another spell card." Jaden complained.
"This can only be activated when we both have 1000 life points. Only one monster is allowed to attack." Harrington explained.
"I'll have Big Server attack." Harrington declared.
There was a white circle which was a indicator that Big Server was the only monster on Harrington's field that could attack.
Ash: 700
"When this deals battle damage, I can add Service Ace from my deck to my hand." Harrington said. "After I do that, you're allowed to draw a card."
Ash drew from his deck. It was One for One.
"I activate Service Ace. What are you going to choose this time?" Harrington asked.
'Let's see. The spells are the cards that do damage and normal monsters are the cards that inflict it.' Ash thought.
"Just like last time, monster."
"No way." Harrington showed him another Mega Thunderball.
"That was a good guess." Jaden commented.
"Doesn't matter." Harrington shrugged. "I'll equip the Giant Racquet to the Big Server!" A giant, red racquet was strapped behind the Big Server. "Now on the first attack, all damage dealt to my monster goes to 0. In addition, Big Server can't be destroyed by a single attack."
"That's not good." Ash groaned.
"It's going to get a lot worse." Harrington sneered.
"My move." Ash drew a card and became excited. It was Junk Synchron.
"I activate One for One." He placed Speed Warrior in the graveyard.
"I special summon Tuningware."
"Nice." Jaden commented.
"I've never seen that monster before." Syrus said.
"Is he about to synchro summon?" Mindy asked.
"I summon Junk Synchron. It's effect brings Speed Warrior back." (1300/500) (900/400)
"Does he intend to summon Junk Warrior?" Alexis questioned.
"When Tuningware is used to synchro summon, it becomes a level 2 monster." Junk Synchron then turned into three rings while Speed Warrior and Tuningware turned into two stars.
"I synchro summon Junk Archer!" Junk Archer came out of a portal and then fired a arrow. (2300/2000)
"Junk Archer!" Harrington was briefly surprised. He was surprised as he had never heard of this monster.
He then snapped out of it, believing he was safe.
"Is that all you got, loser." Harrington mockingly said.
"When Tuningware is sent to the graveyard as synchro material, I can draw a card." Ash drew from the top of his deck. He drew Dragon's Gunfire.
"I'll use Junk Archer's effect to banish Big Server until the end phase." Ash said.
"WHAT?!" Harrington screamed as Junk Archer shoots a arrow at Big Server destroying Giant Racket.
Harrington was angry, but then calmed down.
"Big Server will return at the end phase and you can only attack with one monster." He pointed out.
"That doesn't mean a thing since Tuningware gave me the card I needed to win." Ash said to him.
Harrington is confused.
"I play Dragon's Gunfire! If I have a dragon type monster on the field I can either destroy a monster with 800 or less defense or deal 800 points of damage to you and in case you forgot, I DO! And I'm obviously going to deal damage to you."
Luster Dragon was powered up by Dragon's Gunfire before blasting at Harrington.
One of the circles was white meaning Harrington has 1 of 2 hits.
"Junk Archer, attack him with Scrap Arrow." Junk Archer fired a arrow at Harrington, piercing him.
Another circle became white, meaning he won the duel.
He dropped to his knees in defeat.
"She was my first draft pick, my Marquis girlfriend, my soul mate!"
Ash just gave him a blank stare as Harrington climbed to his feet and ran out crying for his mother. He then turned on his heels and strolled over to his friends.
"That was some awesome dueling!" Syrus said.
"Speaking of which." Jasmine noted to Mindy. "Has he gained a wife?"
"So romantic!" Mindy said.
"I really wasn't paying attention." He admitted.
Pikachu sweat dropped at how dense his trainer was.
"What is a fiancee anyway?" Jaden asked.
Pikachu and the others comically fall to the ground.
"You'll have to find out on your own." Alexis told him.
"Does he even understand what that word means?" Ash asked.
"See you guys around." Jaden waved as he left the gym.
Harrington stared out at sea. He had been crying the whole time.
"Wait for me Alexis!" He screamed, remaining there for a while.
