Author Note : So here's chapter 2! Hopefully it is as good as the 1st. This is still my first time writing a story on here. I know I made Bella more crazy in the 1st chapter, and she'll probably have episodes later on. It's been 6 years since I wrote chapter 1, so I'm trying to get back into the groove of how I wanted this story to go back then. I hope this chapter isn't too slow either!
Disclaimer : I don't own Twilight or its characters!
Chapter 2
The drive from Forks to Port Angeles where the Volturi plane was waiting would take around an hour. Marcus didn't drive fast like other vampires Bella had met, he cruised along at the speed limit instead, which surprisd her, she even went as far as to ask why he drove so slow.
"When you live as long as I have Mia Bella, it's nice to slow down and see the scenery, especially when I haven't left the walls of Volterra much in the past years" Marcus explained as he glanced at her with ruby eyes.
Bella pondered over his answer and asked "Why haven't you left Volterra often?"
Marcus turned to smile at her gently.
"I haven't had a reason too Isabella, until now."
Bella blushed slightly, she decided Marcus was even more handsome when he smiled. But she was puzzled as to how he and the Volturi had known about Victoria or herself to begin with. The more she was around him, the clearer her mind was becoming. It was quite odd to her.
"How did the Volturi know about me?" She asked Marcus.
Marcus stiffened slightly in the driver's seat, she would've missed it if she hadn't been gazing at him, watching the way his skin let off a slight twinkle when a rare ray of sunshine came through the corner of the windshield.
"One of my kind called Volterra, leaving a message with our secretary to report a human with knowledge of us living in a tiny town called Forks." Marcus explained. "They also reported a rogue vampire with an entire newborn army, an army that was created for revenge against one human, you." He said glancing at Bella. "My brother, Caius, was flabbergasted that this rogue vampire couldn't handle a human on their own."
Bella's chest got tight. Even with all that she's been through recently, she truly didn't want to die. She had thought about flinging her body from the La Push cliffs many times, if she could've made it past the treaty line. It seemed like a good solution for all the trouble her life had caused others lately. But that was before her eyes first met the ruby eyes of Marcus. He was grounding her in some way.
As Bella was lost in her thoughts, Marcus was beside her hoping she wouldn't ask the identity of the vampire who called to report. He feared if she knew who set in motion this plan to save her life, that she would refuse to leave with him. That she may even try to hunt the other vampire down to join them instead. He was also hoping she wouldn't ask why he came to collect her, when he hadn't left the castle in years, instead of just sending some guards.
"How does the Volturi plan to handle me once we get to Italy?" Bella finally asked Marcus. "If a human knows about your kind, it's a rule to kill them or change them isn't it? Normally the formal I've been told." She finished.
"We're not going to kill you Isabella!" Marcus exclaimed. "If that was our intention I wouldn't have let you pack your things or even put you in my car!"
"I thought hurting humans was a favorite pastime for all red eyed vampires!" Bella exclaimed back. "Least in my case it has been!" She said while covering a scar on her wrist, a very distinct scar in the shape of a bite mark. "How am I supposed to know what you plan to do with me!"
Marcus caught her movement and felt a growl rumble through his chest at seeing the teeth marks. "No one is going to hurt you anymore Mia Bella. I'll kill them before that happens."
"But why would you do that? We've only met today and I don't understand why you care so much." Bella asked him while rubbing her chest.
Bella noticed it felt like a vice tightening around her heart. It worsened when things became slightly tense in the car. She guessed basically accusing Marcus of taking her out of the country with the intention to let her be drained wasn't the most polite thing to do. She had been without human contact for too long she realized, losing some of her verbal filter. Maybe she should have socialized with her delivery puppy when she had the chance. Before going to a castle with possible bloodthirsty vampires.
"I'm sure by now you know that some vampires have gifts Mia Bella?" Marcus asked glancing at her. When she nodded he continued "My gift is to see bonds between people. When I first met you, I saw a bond that has quite the potential. If this bond between us has the chance to come to fruition, it will be extraordinary. Therefore, no one will be killing you in Italy, they'll have to get through me first." Marcus finished while staring at her with an intense gaze.
Bella's heart flip flopped under his stare. The band around her chest letting up, a warm feeling spreading through her body. Something about Marcus made her feel better, made her feel calm and saner then she had in months. She believed his words that he wouldn't let harm come to her. Her brain called her stupid for believing anything he said, but her heart pulled her in his direction. She could only hope that his gift wasn't allure or something, that could definitely explain her feelings in a more practical way. But he said he saw a bond with her, she certainly didn't have familial feelings towards him.
Bella's thought were cut off as they pulled into the airport near a shiny black jet, definitely not just a plane as Marcus had claimed. The runway the jet set on was farther away from the main building.
"That's your guards?" She asked Marcus seeing 4 figures standing near the jet.
"Yes, it is." Marcus answered as he put the car in park. "That's Jane." He said, nodding in the direction of a blonde girl with her hair in a severe bun."Her brother Alec is to her left, Felix is the larger man, and Demetri is next to him."
Bella studied them as Marcus left the car and came to her side to open the door. Bella slid out of the car as her eyes bounced over the Volturi guards. Demetri had dark blonde hair, was quite tall and lean. Felix was a polar opposite with his olive complexion, dark hair and large muscular build. His build reminded her of another vampire she once knew. Alec was smaller then both males, with dark hair. She could see the matching features he shared with his sister, Jane, who was glaring angrily at Bella with large crimson eyes. Marcus opened the back door, grabbing her box of belongings. He put a hand on the small of her back as he led her towards the plane.
"It's ok, Mia Bella. Look at this as a fresh start." Marcus said softly as he heard her heart rate increase the closer they got to the guards. "Are you ready for your new life?" He asked her as he glanced into her doe eyes.
Bella took a deep breath. This would be a good thing she decided. Course the last time she moved to a new place, not completely new to her though, she had ended up being hunted down by multiple bloodthirsty vampires, had been abandoned, was betrayed by someone she considered family, and ended up exiled away from the population in her tiny cottage. But things couldn't possibly get any worse from here, right?
"I'm ready." Bella said in a strong voice as she gazed into his ruby eyes.
Marcus blinded her with his smile. It filled her heart with a warmth she had missed for so long. He was like seeing the sun for the first time, she realized. And she pondered over their bond again, curious as to what they were meant to be to each other.
As the pair reached the guards, Marcus held his head high and opened his mouth, still raised with a smile, to introduce the mesmerizing human beside him to his and his brothers' faithful guards. His eyes watched as Felix reached his hand out while breathing a large breath of air into his lungs, taking the scent of Bella in. Felix's fingers ran through her long brown hair, with hints of red throughout.
"I call dibs." Felix joked while nudging Demetri.
Bella gasped as her box hit the ground, landing at the same time Felix hit his knees. Marcus now held a disembodied hand instead. He waved it in Felix's face, growling out. "You can have this back when we land in Italy!"
Marcus then tucked the hand inside his coat pocket, picked up her box, and led her into the jet. The jet taking her to her new life in Volterra.
