GerEng: A Simple Trade
Arthur stumbled into the kitchen, yawning widely. He could see that Ludwig was already there, drinking his coffee while reading the newspaper. Arthur groaned, before making his way to the kettle.
"If you want to wake up, you need to drink coffee," Ludwig said.
"Tea is better for your health," Arthur shot back.
"It tastes weak."
Arthur didn't respond as he proceeded to prepare his tea.
"You know, I've been thinking," Arthur said. "Perhaps we should trade."
"Trade?" Ludwig asked.
"Like, one morning, instead of drinking tea, I'll drink coffee, and instead of coffee, you drink tea."
Ludwig stared at him for a moment before he shrugged.
"Alright then," he said. "Do what you want."
Arthur smirked.
…
The next morning, the two of them were staring at the mugs in front of them. Arthur had prepared tea for Ludwig, and Ludwig had prepared coffee for Arthur. And just in case, they had the milk and sugar on hand.
"Alright," Arthur sighed. "Are you ready?"
"They're just beverages," Ludwig said. "We can manage."
The two of them took their mugs, and each took a large gulp. Ludwig swallowed with some difficulty, while Arthur spat his mouthful back into the mug.
"This is disgusting," Arthur said. "How can you drink this stuff?"
"That's what I was about to ask you," Ludwig said. "This is weak."
"And yours is bitter."
They experimented with the sugar and milk, but after a few minutes they had to give up, finding themselves unable to finish their drinks.
"That was horrible," Arthur said.
"Agreed," Ludwig said. "Let's never do this again."
The prompt is: 'Person 1 is a coffee drinker and Person 2 is a tea drinker. One day they force each other to try the other drinks. How do they react? Do they like it?'
I myself am a tea drinker, specifically rooibos. Coffee is way too bitter for me. Example: one time at a restaurant I ordered a bottomless hot chocolate, and with the second refill they added a shot of espresso. I tried to drink it, but nine packets of sugar later it was still too bitter for me, so I had to ask them to get me another mug.
