#8- Flight

(in which Izuku takes Bakugo's advice and awakens a quirk)

"If you wanna be a hero so badly, why don't you take a swan dive off the roof and pray you get a quirk in the next life?"

Those words echoed in Izuku Midoriya's head as he pondered them. He'd been pondering them since Kacchan uttered them- what, a day ago? The more he told himself he wouldn't, the more he had the urge to do so. He'd been diagnosed with Quirklessness, rendering him an outcast. And yet still, he persisted.. One day, a sludge villain attacked him on his way to school, attempting to hijack his body. Slowly, he started to suffocate- he couldn't breathe.. All was lost… but then, he heard…

"It's fine now! Why, you ask? Because I am here!!"

The villain went away, and Izuku, miraculously, was freed. Thanks to the burly figure in front of him, which Izuku recognized as All Might.

"Sorry to get you caught up in my villain hunt, young man," he laughed, "but I must be off! Here's your autograph-" But something seized Izuku, and he was holding on to All Might as he flew.

"Whoa, I'm flattered by the devotion, but can you please let go?"

"If I do, I'll die!"

"Good point, gimme a sec."

All Might set them down on a building, and Izuku slumped a bit. "Sorry. Don't know what came over me."

But by then, All Might had disappeared, in his place stood a sickly, skeletal man.

"You're not All Might!"

"I assure you, I am." A lengthy explanation later, Izuku was told to keep it a secret, and he turned to go. But before he left, Izuku asked, "Can someone without a quirk become a hero like you?"

All Might sighed. "It's simply too dangerous for someone without a quirk to become a hero. You might find work as a cop- they're not respected like us heroes, but it's still decent. Keep yourself safe, okay?" With that, All Might left, leaving Izuku to ponder.. But not for long. He saw smoke.

Meanwhile, All Might checked the bottle he'd stored the villain in, and swore. "Crap."

Izuku looked over at the smoke. Before he knew it, he was getting up and walking to the edge.

Stop that, he thought. But his body wouldn't listen. In fact, he sprinted. Dammit, he thought, as he jumped off the roof…

Vwoomp!

He was suddenly on another rooftop, closer to the smoke. A grin spread across his face… Teleportation? So he did have a quirk.

Izuku Midoriya! Quirk: Skywarp!

When in midair, he can teleport! A few inches off the ground works, but in this extreme case, his quirk drove him to swan dive, for optimal teleportation distance!

Again, he sprinted off the edge of this roof…

Vwoomp!

Now he was even closer. And he could see.. Kacchan_ being engulfed by the sludge villain. Determined to save his friend, he ran off the edge of this rooftop, and shouted. "KACCHAN!"

Kacchan looked up, shocked to see Izuku running off the rooftop..

Vwoomp!

Now he was beside Kacchan, surprising the villain. The heroes were shocked too, so Izuku put on a show, socking the villain in the eye.

"You little- fine, I'll just k*ll you both!"

But before the villain could do so, All Might threw a smash in their direction. Knowing what was about to happen, Izuku grabbed Kacchan's arm, and right as All Might did the "SMAAASH!"...

FWOOMP!

The two boys teleported behind All Might in a cloud of purple. The Smash connected with the villain, who fell into the bottles yet again, and the weather cleared, causing rain to fall on the fires caused by Kacchan. After a hassle and all, Izuku and Kacchan walked down the street. But then..

"You damn nerd!" Kacchan snarled at Izuku. "You've been hiding your quirk, haven't you?!"

"It's been hiding from me too," Izuku replied, with much more snark and confidence than before. "I had to take a swan dive off a roof to activate it, by the way."

Kacchan, taken aback, scowled, but then he grinned, and punched Izuku in the shoulder. "Looks like you're not useless after all, Deku. Or should I say, Izuku?"

Izuku's smile widened. "Friends?"

"Hell yeah!" roared Kacchan. He held out his hand for a high five, which Izuku returned gleefully.

"Sorry about what I said earlier," Kacchan said. "It was wrong of me, and I'll take whatever punishment I get-"

But Izuku shook his head. "Just stay humble. That's all."

"I will," Kacchan grinned. And ahead, All Might approached.

"Kid!"

Kacchan raised an eyebrow. "Explanation?'

"Long story. You'll see." Then, he walked forward. "Yo!"

All Might slid to a stop before them, a half-smile and half-scowl on his face.

"Quirkless, huh?"

"Thought I was," replied Izuku. "Turns out, I warp when I'm in the air.. Like so." to demonstrate, he jumped up, and disappeared in a purple cloud, appearing behind All Might in a similar cloud.

"I see. Nice quirk you got there, Young…"

"Midoriya. Izuku Midoriya. And my friend is Katsuki Bakugo."

"I have a mouth too," Bakugo retorted.

"And he's got quite a temper- yikes!" Chuckled Izuku, dodging a strike from Bakugo, though both laughed, and after a bit of wrestling, Bakugo had Izuku in a headlock.

"Sorry about my friend here."

All Might laughed. "No problem- koff!"

Bakugo was shocked to see All Might deflate into a skeletal form, while Izuku winced.

"Anyways, I've got secrets for you. And I promise, I am All Might."

Bakugo nodded, while Izuku rubbed his hands.

"Besides the skeletal form?"

"Yeah, my power. I never truly said what it is, but it's… not mine. It was handed to me. And now, I'm offering it to you, Midoriya."

Midoriya nodded. "Hell yeah!"
