Gut-wrenching

Robert and Andy are still together(married) at the firefighter's ball. Vic and Theo don't break up.

*This one-shot I wrote by myself. *

Andy and Vic were walking into the dining hall when Theo came and pulled her away. Andy looked around trying to find her husband and smiled when she did. She began walking towards him and he smiled when he noticed her coming.

"Hey, Andy," Robert said while wrapping an arm around Andy's waist and pulling her in for a kiss.

Andy smiled into the kiss and wrapped her arms around her husband then pulled away and smiled up at him. "Listen, I've got to go find Ross but save me a seat at the table, okay?"

Robert nodded, kissed Andy's forehead and then the couple went their separate ways.

Andy walked around, trying to find where Ross was and finally found her where the items were being auctioned in the ballroom.

"Ross," Andy called, walking up to her.

"Herrera." Ross turned around. "I need to talk to you about something?"

"Did I do something?" Andy asked, heartbeat increasing.

"No. No. it's not like that." Ross chuckled. "I know you and Theo are waiting to see who will become permanent captain of 19."

"Yeah, I figured you would take your time to decide. I know we've been acting like children. I was just hoping I'd get to show you what I'm capable of now that I got my head out of my ass." Andy told her. "I want to be the best captain I can be, and I know competing with him like it's something to be won isn't helping anything."

"Herrera, I've seen what you can do," Ross told her. "I know you're more than worthy of becoming captain which is why Because of your undeniable hard work and your dedication to this house, you are officially the new captain of Station 19."

Andy didn't know what to say. She was speechless.

Ross smiled. "Congratulations, captain," Ross said, rested a hand on Andy's shoulder and then walked away.

Andy was stuck on the spot when she saw Vic coming towards her. "Andy, what are you doing out here? No. Hang on." Andy told Vic as she saw Robert looking at her while Vic was squealing "Don't move, don't move." Andy told Vic. Not wanting Robert to get suspicious.

Vic gasped. "Oh, my God. You gotta tell…" Vic could see Andy was still worried about Robert looking at them while Vic and she were holding each others' arms, keeping close. Andy squealed once Robert was gone, wanting to tell Robert when she told everyone else. "Oh, he's fine. Okay, we have to tell the table, right?"

"Well, no, I think Chief Ross will do, like, a formal announcement." Andy tried to play off that she could wait for everyone to know when she really wanted to tell everyone now.

"Oh, stop, stop, stop." Vic waved her hands, stopping Andy. "Do you want to be a - a wimpy, let-other-people-do-things kind of captain, or are you gonna be a kick-ass take-names kind of captain?" Vic asked, making a face while still being serious and Andy copied.

"Kick-ass-take-names." Andy said and they began to walk to the table, Vic all giddy.

"You want to take some names?" Vic asked again.

"Yeah," Andy said, following Vic.

"Let's go."

"Alright"

"Come on." And they rushed to the table. Vic acting like a hyper child and Andy couldn't help but smile, thankful that Vic was in her life. When they got closer to the table, they heard Maddox talking about how Theo may be becoming captain and Andy's smile got smaller while Vic was still bouncing in joy. "Guys. Guys, guys, guys. Guess who our new captain is?"

"Ruiz!" Maddox shouted as Vic shouted "Andy!"

Vic shook her head, a smile still on her face. "No, it's Chief Ross just told her." Everyone looked surprised for a moment.

"Hey, there should be a celebration, right?" Barnes said, trying to relieve some of the awkwardness.

"Bravo," Ruiz said and walked away, pissed off.

"I guess not for everybody," Barnes said and looked on as Ruiz went. "Y-You always got a spot at 7 with us, Ruiz," Barnes commented. "But, uh, good for you, Herrera."

"Yeah. Good for you." Robert contributed while pulling his wife into his arms and kissing her on the top of her head.

"Congrats," Barnes added.

"Hey," Robert chuckled, proud of his wife while picking up a water bottle. "To the new captain."

"Yeah!" Someone said.

"About damn time," Bailey added in, even she knew Andy should've been captain years ago.

"Give me that," Vic said while stealing Maddox's drink.

"Captain Herrera," Ben said while Travis looked insanely proud and happy for Andy.

Robert pulled Andy aside and led her into a closet and pulled her into his arms, squeezing her tightly. "Robert… Can't… Breathe… Too… Tight." Andy said, struggling for breath. Robert pulled away, laughing. "Sorry, Hun." Andy giggled and just hugged her husband again, happy that he was happy for her. She pulled back and moved to kiss him. Her arms made their way around Robert's neck while he pulled her up, so her legs were wrapped around his midsection. They were making out, hands almost going under each others' clothes when there was a knock on the door.

"I don't know what you two are doing in there. And I'm not sure I want to know, but I need you for a moment Captain Herrera." Andy jumped down, adjusted her dress, and then opened the door.

"What's going on?" Andy asked when she saw the panicked look on Ross' face.

"There's some smoke in the kitchen that Gibson noticed, and I just wanted you to take a look and see what you think." Ross watched Andy nod and they raced toward the kitchen after Andy said a quick goodbye to Robert. When they got near the kitchen, they heard the chef say that it was just "a little" smoke.

"It's not "just a little smoke." You need to get out, Chef." Andy told him coming into the kitchen with Chief Ross and Farris. "This building was built in the 1920s. There may not be any fire stops between the studs, which allows the air to flow freely." Jack goes over to the wall where there's an axe

"So, what she's saying is" Jack started before breaking the safety glass. "There could be fire inside the walls."

"Right, we're gonna need to hack into these walls. Captain Herrera, take command." Ross said and both Jack and Farris looked surprised.

""Captain" Herre… What?" Jack was shocked but looked proud of Andy. Andy gave him a quick smile before focusing on the task at hand.

"All right. Upshaw, get the civilians out. Gibson and Farris, start opening up the walls. Hatton and Dearborn, I want you to find the circuit breakers and shut off the electricity to the ovens." Andy gave instructions. "Everyone else, leave. We got this." Andy turned to look at Ross before exiting the kitchen "I'm calling in an on-duty non-emergency crew."

"Good, good. All right, let's go." Ross instructed Jack and Farris. After Andy made the call, she walked back into the kitchen to help Jack and Farris figure out what was happening.

"The old wiring must have overheated," Andy stated as she helped extinguish the fire in the walls where Jack and Farris had made holes.

"That explains the burnt bread," Jack stated the obvious.

"Fire seems to be contained," Farris spoke.

"Yeah, and no more sign of extension," Jack said while looking through a hole in the wall, checking to make sure there was no more sparking of wires or any other fire."

"All right. We gotta get below, find the source, and confirm there's no fire down there."

"Copy, Captain." Jack said with a smile on his face, "I just like saying it." Andy smiled at him and then focused on what else needs to be done.

"Okay, uh, you know what? I'll go. Farris, come with me. Gibson, uh, make sure nothing is smouldering in those walls, and clean up the debris." Andy told and ordered Jack before walking out of the room.

Andy decided that checking for any more smoke in the electrical wiring was a one-person job, so she went to look for her husband and saw him talking to Vic and Travis. She walked up to them, a smile on her face. "Hey guys, mind if I steal my husband for a dance?"

"No. Go dance with your wife, Sullivan." Robert didn't need to be told twice and walked off with Andy. The two were dancing when Andy felt her phone vibrating from under her dress. She pulled away from Robert and answered, putting her other hand over her ear.

"What is it, Farris?" Andy asked, slightly annoyed.

"Andy the floor is going to collapse."

"What?" Andy asked, a surprised look coming on her face and looked up at Robert who looked at her confused.

"The floor is moving, and dust is falling from it in the basement. You need to get everyone out of there now!" Farris told them and she saw Farris and a couple of other firefighters running behind him, screaming that everyone needed to get off the floor but before Andy or Robert could even take a step, the floor was falling, and Andy let out a scream. Almost everyone had run off the floor when they heard the scream. Everyone from 19 turned around when they heard the scream. That was Andy's scream.

"No!" Jack yelled out and ran to the edge, stopping, and looking for Andy. Travis, Theo, and Vic standing beside him. "We need to get down there now. Someone grab some hoses from the truck outside." Jack rushed out, looking at Farris and the other firefighters. He saw Maya and Carina on the other side of the room. He saw the fear in Maya's eyes, and he felt the same. They both knew they needed to get down there to save Andy.

"Wait. Where's Sullivan?" No one answered. "Guys, where the hell is Sullivan?" Vic asked again.

"He was dancing with Andy," Theo told her, and everyone looked at him and back down the rubble.

"Fuck it," Jack said and jumped down, Travis and Theo following behind him. Vic went down moments later too.

"Andy!" Vic called out. "Herrera!" Vic tried. "Herrera! Answer us!" No answer came.

They were searching for what seemed like forever. They had found three other partygoers and thankfully they were alive and awake when they found them, but Andy and Robert were still yet to be found.

It was another 10 minutes when they found Robert, he was buried under a concrete slab when Vic went to reach for a pulse but let her head hand when she couldn't feel one. She took a moment to compose herself before looking up and shaking her head. She let a couple of tears fall.

"Oh, god." Vic cried out. "He's gone," Vic announced. Vic looked up and saw Ross shedding a few tears. She knew she and Robert were close from when they were overseas together. "Where the fuck is Andy?" Vic sobbed out. Extremely concerned for her best friend now that she found her husband dead and feared that Andy's condition would result in the same fate.

"We keep looking," Maya told her, climbing down to help Vic. The two women were searching the left side of the hole where Sullivan was found, hoping to find Andy close by. Maya was trying to move a piece of rubble but couldn't, so Vic came over to help.

Please be underneath. Please be underneath. Please be underneath. Vic chanted in her head. Hoping they would find Andy under.
