"Why don't you get up for the day? You have a lot of chores to take care of." Alice suggested, and I had a sneaking suspicion that it was due to the disagreement.
"If I do, are you going to leave?" I asked, as the prospect of her leaving seemed unbearable.
Alice met my gaze, "Do you want me to?"
"No!" I said quickly, unable to hide the desperation in my voice.
A soft smile played on her lips as she reassured me, "I suppose I can stay. But I can't go out in the sun."
I contemplated her words, still afraid she might disappear. "So you'll wait for me here?"
"Yes, Bella. I'll wait for you here," She affirmed, her melodic voice unwavering.
"Do you promise?"
"Of course."
The promise of reuniting with Alice fueled my every movement as I raced through the chores with fervor. Every step I took, and every task I completed was infused with a sense of purpose.
As I hurried through the chores with an unmistakable enthusiasm, Charlie didn't notice the shift in demeanor. He observed me with a raised eyebrow, curiosity in his expression as he approached.
"Bella, what's got you in such a rush today?" he inquired, his tone a blend of amusement and concern.
I flashed him a quick smile, attempting to downplay the eagerness. "Oh, just in a good mood, I guess. The weather's nice, and I'm getting things done. You know, the usual."
Charlie eyed me with an unconvinced look, his intuition sensing there might be more to my buoyant mood than I told him. "You sure there's not something else going on? You seem... extra happy today."
I chuckled nervously, brushing off his concern. "Dad, it's really nothing. Just enjoying the day, that's all."
Charlie maintained a skeptical gaze for a moment but eventually relented with a shrug.
Alice was waiting for me inside, her arms stretched out, ready to embrace me. I laid into her arms, and she held me tightly, as if she never wanted to let me go.
We cuddled for what felt like hours, lost in each other's embrace. The feel of her cool body against mine was comforting, and I felt safe and loved in her arms.
As the sun began to set outside, Alice whispered in my ear, "I wish we could stay like this forever."
I smiled, feeling her breath on my neck. "Me too," I said softly.
"Though you're different now, I still love being close to you." I murmured.
"I could say the same thing about you." She said softly.
"What do you mean? I'm still human." I asked, confused.
She let out a quiet chuckle. "Yes, you may still be human… but you've changed."
"How so?"
"I remember the Bella that ran away in fear because she thought intimacy was a taboo." She said affectionately, "And now you're kicking vampire doors to be in my arms." She caressed my face, and for a moment, all coherent thought was lost.
"I can't kick down your door, I wouldn't be able to afford to replace it."
She exhaled in a short laugh. "Figure of speech, Bella."
A gentle knock on the door startled me, and the spell of intimacy shattered. I sighed, frustration and disappointment mingling in my gaze.
"Is everything okay in there?" Charlie's voice called from the other side of the door.
"Yes, Dad, everything's fine."
I glanced at Alice, a mix of longing and regret in my eyes. "Any idea what he wants?" I groaned.
Her orange eyes went out of focus for a moment. "You have baby piglets? How cute."
"They're okay," I sighed as I hesitated to extract myself from her.
She understood the unspoken sentiments and placed a tender kiss on my forehead. "There will be other opportunities," she whispered, her voice a soothing melody.
Reluctantly, I disentangled myself from her embrace, adjusting my disheveled appearance. Alice disappeared with astonishing speed, and I blinked to figure out what had happened. When My eyes caught up, I saw my closet door shut gently.
As I opened the door to face Charlie, dim light spilled into the room.
Charlie, oblivious to the intimate moment interrupted, raised an eyebrow. "Do you think you could help me with the piglets? They are swarming me."
I nodded, a smile forming on my face. "Yeah, let's get them fed."
As Charlie retreated, I cast a glance back at my closet door, a silent promise lingering in the air.
