Kaien Cross thinks about becoming an unexpected father...

In the two hundred years of Kaien Cross's cursed existence, he never imagined being a father.
Neither human nor vampire. A Hunter who shared more vampiric traits than his fellow Hunters, a man who was raised in a human household, but outlived his family and friends. Kaien lived solely to kill vampires, in an attempt to erase his existence.
Until he made a promise to Juri Kuran and put away his sword.
When Kaname Kuran presented recently-turned-human Yuki to his home one stormy wintry night, Kaien Cross fell instantly in love. He knew, from the bottom of his soul, that he would protect Juri's child to his dying breath. He couldn't bear to give her false name, and so "named" her Yuki, because, yes, this "tender snow princess," tiny and vulnerable, never had a more appropriate name.
Precious Yuki. Even before the adoption papers were official, Kaien was calling her his daughter and bugged nearly all his acquaintances with photos of his sweet, darling Yuki. Yuki wearing her clothes all wrong, Yuki getting pudding smudged on her nose, Yuki bundled up in the snow, Yuki gazing up at Kaname with a reverence that no memory erasure could hide.
(But of course, none of his acquaintances knew of any memory erasure. Only Kaien and Kaname knew Yuki's true identity.)
Kaien knew it was only a matter of time before Yuki returned to her destiny, to the world of bloodshed and politics and Kaname's arms, but for the foreseeable future, he would tenderly watch over her.
AN: On a scale of Severus Snape to Kaien Cross, how well would YOU handle protecting the child of the woman you had unrequited love for?
