"I am intervening to assist you. The ongoing conflict between you and Camille is unacceptable," Kendall asserts.
"I will depart. My presence has already burdened Logan. I remain skeptical of Callie's trustworthiness," Camille declares.
"You persist in viewing her as a threat. Your current stance is unreasonable," Logan states firmly, visibly annoyed, as he gestures for her to leave. "Farewell."
Camille storms out, displaying her frustration with a dismissive eye roll. Logan closes the door, expressing his exasperation. "She can be quite challenging at times," he remarks.
"Don't worry, Logan. Once she interacts with Callie, she may change her attitude and show kindness," Kendall reassures.
"I hope your prediction proves accurate," Logan responds. "I have my reservations."
"Why don't you take a moment to relax," Kendall suggests.
"I will. I need to develop the idea I shared with Carlos this morning to enhance his vocabulary and grammar skills," Logan states.
"You were serious about that?" Kendall questions.
"Absolutely. I am fully committed to supporting Carlos. He requires and desires my assistance," Logan asserts.
"Alright, understood. I am uncertain of his return time, so you have ample time to refine your plan," Kendall informs.
"Do you know his whereabouts?" Logan inquires.
"He is at the skatepark with James, collaborating on a new maneuver they devised. They may return with injuries from their daring skateboarding endeavors," Kendall reports.
"You also engage in risky behavior," Logan points out.
"Not to the extent they do," Kendall concedes with a chuckle.
"Do you know where Katie is?" Logan inquires.
"In the game room with Tyler," Kendall responds. "I only returned home to alleviate your solitude."
"Thank you, Kenny. I value your gesture, but my presence shouldn't hinder your enjoyment. You should be at the pool socializing with Jo," Logan suggests.
"I can't. She's occupied. She's still at the New Town High set rehearsing her scenes. Sometimes the sessions are prolonged and consume hours. She'll be utterly drained upon her return. However, I'm certain her father will have the couch prepared for her relaxation. He's consistently attentive to her needs," Kendall explains.
"He's an exceptional father to her. I believe he serves as a commendable father figure to you as well. Am I correct?" Logan inquires.
"Yes. Filling the void left by my own inadequate father," Kendall admits.
"I understand that's a sensitive topic for you. Let's shift our conversation to another topic," Logan suggests.
"It's acceptable, Logan. I have reconciled with the fact that my own father will never reenter my life. Katie will remain unaware of him. It's unfathomable that he lacks interest in forming a bond with his daughter. It's consuming me internally. Katie was still in diapers when he departed. She was not even a toddler yet. She is far too young to recognize him. She doesn't even know his name," Kendall articulates.
"Why have you or your mother not disclosed his name to her?" Logan inquires.
"She has never inquired. Presumably because she fears we will react negatively and withhold the information. I am certain she is curious about him. At times, she shows interest. Such as what he looked like. Does she resemble him. Was he humorous. Was he a skilled chef. Those sorts of inquiries," Kendall explains.
Version 1:
"I have observed throughout the years of her upbringing that she yearns for a paternal figure. I recall a particular incident in Minnesota during Father's Day at her school, where all the fathers, grandfathers, and uncles graced the elementary school with their presence. She confided in me, expressing her discomfort and sense of exclusion as the sole child without a fatherly presence in the class. She refrained from participating in the activities and remained despondent throughout the day. This occurred during her second-grade year, when she was merely seven." Logan explains.
"She never disclosed this to me or our mother. She maintained a facade of normalcy that day. How did you come to know her true sentiments?" Kendall inquires.
"She confided in me exclusively. She chose not to burden you or your mother with her feelings, fearing that it would cause distress. She did not want your mother to feel remorseful for not being married, nor did she want you to be disheartened by the absence of a father figure. She believed she was shielding both of you from emotional turmoil." Logan reveals.
"Ah, I see. I should have recognized that she was concealing her genuine emotions behind that cheerful facade she presented when we picked her up from the carpool lane that day." Kendall reflects.
"She is a resilient child. Perhaps she wished to avoid ridicule from her peers and endeavored to not let her fatherless status affect her." Logan suggests.
"I comprehend that, but I do not wish for her to suppress her feelings for our sake. If something truly troubles her, she should confide in us." Kendall asserts.
"Katie, at her age, prefers to confide in Tyler rather than share everything with us. Their strong friendship allows her to trust him completely." Logan remarks.
"I am delighted that they have such a close bond," Kendall replies.
As the night falls, James and Carlos walk by, engaged in a heated argument. Katie trails behind them, visibly annoyed by their quarrel.
"What is the matter with you two now?" Kendall inquires.
"They are upset about something that occurred at the skatepark," Katie explains. "Please make them cease. They have been arguing for ten minutes, and I have a splitting headache! It's like they are shouting through megaphones!"
"What upset you both at the skatepark?" Logan questions.
"James messed up the skateboarding trick we had created together. Then he accused me of making the mistake. I did not make an error. He did," Carlos states.
"No, I did not! You did!" James retorts.
"You did!" Carlos insists.
"You did!" James counters.
Logan and Kendall watch as Katie takes charge of the situation, her voice cutting through the night like a sharp blade. "Enough!" she commands, her eyes flashing with irritation. "You both probably messed up on the skateboarding move. Keep trying until you get it right! Just stop yelling, please!" The boys fall silent, chastened by her words. Katie's ability to handle conflict with such poise and authority impresses Logan and Kendall, who exchange a knowing glance.
"Apologies, princess." Carlos embraces her. "I dislike causing you distress. Your happiness holds great importance to me."
"Thank you, Carlos," Katie responds.
"Carlos, I have something for you. Come join me on the couch to take a look," Logan suggests.
"Alright," Carlos agrees, rushing over to the couch and taking a seat beside him.
Logan hands him a bulky binder filled with papers.
"What's this?" Carlos inquires. "Why is it so heavy?"
"It's a binder containing lists of advanced vocabulary words to enhance your grammar skills. Each week, you'll study one list, learn the definitions of the words, and write sentences using them. You'll then recite those sentences to me. To make it more appealing for you to remember, I made sure to get a SpongeBob themed binder. Look at his picture on the cover! If you succeed in your studying each week, I'll reward you for your efforts. But only if you complete the entire assignment," Logan explains.
"Logan, what are you doing? You're not a teacher. He's not going to agree to this," James interjects.
"That's for him to decide, not any of us," Logan asserts.
Logie, your dedication to my improvement is truly commendable. I shall diligently work on the task you've assigned me. Your guidance is invaluable, my dear friend. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Carlos expresses his gratitude.
"You're most welcome, Carlos," Logan replies graciously.
As the night progresses, a fierce storm rages outside, filling the sky with thunder and lightning. Katie, unable to find peace in the midst of the tempest, seeks solace in Kendall and Logan's room. Startled by her presence, Kendall awakens with a start, fearing the worst.
"What's the matter? Is there a fire?!" Logan exclaims, his sleep-addled mind racing. He fumbles for the lamp, casting light on the room.
"Katie, you nearly scared me out of my wits! Why are you here at this hour?" Kendall questions, bewildered by the intrusion.
Struggling to find rest amidst the storm, Katie explains, "The thunder keeps me awake. I can't sleep."
With a reassuring tone, Kendall offers a solution, "Fear not, Katie. You are safe here. Follow Logan's relaxation techniques - weighted blanket, sleep mask, aromatherapy, and soothing music. You'll find peace in no time."
