TRIGGER WARNINGS: Implications of Child Abuse, Minor Mention of Pedophilia

The days pass by in in flashes. It's like a movie on fast forward. And somewhere along the line, they blend in together.

The New Year starts off with Leaneira and her friends going to watch the ball drop in Times Square while Percy went with Annabeth down to Virginia as her plus one for her Dad's new year party with his job. Their Mother was on a date with her new boyfriend, Paul and they were someone on the strip to also watch the Ball Drop. They start their day with a brunch to keep Lea's mind off the fact that for the first time in years, the Jackson Family wouldn't be bringing the New Years in together. Afterwards, the girls shopped almost until they dropped at the stores that were still open for the day, splurging on new clothes and gifts for each other and for the boys with Drew's asshole dad's pretty black card that was a part of her inheritance.

(Drew would never let her boyfriend walk around in out of season clothes.)

Alabaster was the one to transfer them all to the Jackson apartment so that they could keep their hands free.

The group splits in half when Ethan dragged Drew to Rockefeller Center Rink and they smiled and glided around under the Christmas tree, loving as they always were and planned to be.

Lea and Alabaster had scoffed, both wondering why they decided to go alongside the couple before they were teleporting to Coney Island to go to the New York Aquarium. The two of them walk through excitedly, making gagging noises when people mistake them for a couple and playing up their act when they call them siblings. If anyone that knew her and really knew her had been paying close attention, they would have took note of the wide-eyed, child-like innocence in her eyes as the different sea creatures spoke to her and how genuine smile appeared on her face as she spun around.

It took little effort to cast spells that allowed some of them to be transported back to the ocean if it was not only what they wanted but also safe for them to do so.

The two of them had hurriedly left before someone realized that they were down at least 50 animals, sparing just a bit of guilt for the poor employees that would have to face the consequences of their actions.

Maybe they should send them a fruit basket or something?

They make it back to their friends just in time, taking hold of the hot chocolate that was gifted to them before they blinked and were suddenly standing atop of the Empire State Building. They all turned in shock, but Lea was honestly not surprised to see Hermes and some of the gods before them. Lea could recognize Apóllōn and Mr. D easily. From the way that Drew blushed and preened, she could rightly assume that absolutely gorgeous woman that made Lea want to recheck the name on her soulmark was her Mother and she could recognize Clarisse's dad, Ares, just as easily. Apóllōn inclined his head in greeting before ignoring them for the curly-haired male in his arms. Mr. D had his arm wrapped around a gorgeous brunette with glowing gold eyes that reminded Lea of Kirkê (and Lea then remembered that the goddess had said something about the children born from the lineage of Hêlios were able to be identified by their eyes that glowed like the sun and didn't Mr. D get married to his granddaughter or something?)

And Lea could easily guess who the blonde woman in a mimic of Princess Diana's revenge dress was just from the way that she was glaring at Lea and looking at her as if she was gum on the bottom of her shoe.

Lea suppressed the urge to smile smugly at her instead turning away to stand with Alabaster and Hermes and see how many people that they could hit with snowballs before they unpacked themselves.

(It was probably cheating to use mageia, but honestly, it brought a bit of variety to the game and the only way that they could actually still since they were thousands of feet in the sky.)

When it was time for the ball to drop, Leaneira carefully moved out Hermes' path, making sure that the only way to get to her was to pass his wife even as they transported them down to ground level.

Five...

Four...

Three...

Two...

One...

Lea snickered to herself when he gave his wife a small peck on her cheek before looking at Lea who happily accepted the forehead kiss instead.

(She hadn't realized that Alabaster had been taking pictures, but nevertheless, Drew placed the one he took of her and Ethan's midnight kiss and the one of Lea and Hermes in their new scrapbook.)

And time just continued to move on as the month bled into February.

Leaneira and Drew had returned back to their dorm room after a long day of classes and another physical therapy session for the former. Their room had been nearly filled to the brim with balloons for Valentine's Day and chocolates from Beauregard Bonbons which Drew informed her was actually her older sister's, Silena, family store.

A small world.

She tuned out Drew's familiar ramblings about Ethan not wanting to have sex with her.

"What if it's another girl?" her friend was saying.

Please. As if her Mother would even allow that.

"Maybe he's a superhero," she replied back, sarcasm dripping onto every word. Some times Lea wished that she could go back in time to when Drew's asshole dad started abusing her and kill him. She wished that she could save Drew from the hyper-sexualization that she faced for simply being to beautiful... for simply being her Mother's daughter. But she couldn't, and that was why she was so thankful that Apóllōn took Drew under his wing and he helped her in ways that Lea could not.

(And she had smiled widely when news reports of pedophiles dropping dead began to appear all over the country. Apóllōn and Artemis were the protectors of children after all.)

Lea had grabbed ahold of the card that sat almost innocently on her bed.

"To think that the entire universe conspired to help me find you. My blessing from khaos."

From your blessing but more importantly, your friend,

Hermês Maiados Huios

It was sweet if she was being honest.

And it was moments like that she held onto as the days continued to pass her by.

When she was alone within the demos oneiron and the oneiri clawed at her as she fought to awaken from dreams and memories that faded with each waking moment. Though, she'd never admit even to herself, the few times where she could remember the dreams. Where she dreamed that she was watching Trent rush down a beachfront with naked fear in his eyes as something chased after him. When water logged hands nipped at his ankles and dragged him to the sea as he clawed desperately at the ground. The way that he used his powers to pull himself away desperately, but it all failed in the end. The way that lifeguards stood still, staring as if he wasn't even there while he was pulled to the ocean floor like water down a drain.

It makes her fear the sea in a way that it never did before. And when she and Percy go an impromptu trip to Montauk, it was with a lot of hesitance before she joined him her brother in the water as they started their familiar surfing challenge. She had stared at the waves silently, briefly wondering if they would pull her under also, before finally banishing the thoughts out of her mind.

She just needed to stop watching horror movies so late at night.

(And if she brought more crystals and candles and dreamcatchers from the little witchy shops that that littered Manhattan, then that was her business and Percy said nothing, just holding his hand out for the next bag.)

(Not that it mattered either since Hermes had started back appearing in the demos oneiron consistently and banished away the dreams with his appearance.)

She told no one about her dreams, not Hermes and certainly not her friends even when Annabeth transferred back to their school.

(And geez, she transferred more than a military kid.)

Lea kept to herself, absently picking at her food as the conversations moved on around them. Barely looking up when Drew slammed her designer lunch bag on the table before them, took one look at Annabeth and declared that the girl had a crush on someone.

"You have a crush and didn't tell me," Percy asked, a bit hurt.

Annabeth scoffed, flipping her locs over her shoulders. "Maybe because it's not true."

"Is it me," Drew asked and Lea could not help but to snort. Trust Drew to believe that the entire world was halfway in love with her. The younger girl playfully slapped her arm while patting her boyfriend's hand reassuringly.

(Lea couldn't remember when Ethan started attending their school, but the memory was in there somewhere, if she cared enough to figure it out.)

"Look at me," she said, mimicking Annabeth and flipping her curly hair. "Who wouldn't have a crush on me?"

"A aromantic person," Lea answered. "A gay man. A hetero-sexual trans-woman."

Drew slapped her arm again as the others gave small chuckles. "Well is it Lea? No. You're too soft. She'd eat you alive. Is it Percy?"

Annabeth snorted, spearing a grape on her fork, "I know this may surprise you but I have standards."

Percy gave a small Hey in protest whereas Lea raised a brow. The girl was clearly lying.

Annabeth shot him a teasing grin, "Just kidding, seaweed brain. But seriously, I don't have a crush on anyone, scouts honor."

"You were never a scout," Percy murmured with a pout as one of their classmates who Lea didn't bother to learn the name to leaned forward to look between Drew and Lea. "Wait, so the two of you are attracted to women?"

Lea raised a brow, bored with the conversation already. "Why? You wanna go for a ride."

Percy and Annabeth choked while Drew flashed a charming smile. "Well, I am the most attractive human being that I know and I am woman, so why wouldn't be attracted to the slightly-less prettier people that strive to be just as beautiful as me."

Lea rolled her eyes.

"But what about your soulmates," the same classmate asked, looking at Ethan and Drew before raising a brow at Lea and Annabeth.

"Stop saying that word," Leaneira grimaced, turning to tune the conversation out.

"It's a sense of completion," Drew said over her, giving her soulmate such a loving look. She reached out absently for Lea's hand also because well, words were Drew's things and she was probably the only person that could put words to the things that Lea felt when she cared enough to feel them. (And scarily enough, that seemed to be a bit frequently.) "Finding a part of you that you are knew but couldn't recognize."

Lea nodded her head reluctantly. Hermes was like that. He made up for the differences that Lea noted that she had with other people.

(Not that Lea had cared. Other people can suck a koala's dick. It wasn't her problem if they were so damn weird and more often than not, ignorant to the world around them.)

"It's a comforting feeling to know that no matter what there is someone that sees me," Drew breathed, eyes still looking adoringly at Ethan. "And knows me and lifts me in places that I am low."

"At least you have it easier with Ethan," Lea smirked just a bit bitterly. "My soulmate has so many baby mamas it's like I'm in a damn sorority."

"Oh, that must be hard," that same classmate said and Lea was startled to realize that they were still there.

But she flipped her hair arrogantly, and wondered what it said about them since they did it so much. "Puh-lease. Once he fell for me, it was over."

Drew laughed. "I did hear that he resembles an addict desperate for a fix when it comes to you."

"What," that classmate said. Lea wondered if she should learn their name if they were going to be spending so much time at their table. "You're the crack and he's the crackhead."

Lea smirked as she turned away, "He's gonna be on me harder than they were on crack in the eighties."

Well... if Lea let him.

She was content in them just being friends.

April comes by quicker than she had anticipated.

And Leaneira found herself at Sweet on America working alongside Drew and Silena and Ethan, Percy, Alabaster, and Annabeth. It was one of the busiest times of the year for the Beaugaurds since every April (and especially the fourth day and week of April), David Beauguard made treats that he called "The Kisses of Aphrodite" because they were what attracted her to him. He made them look like myrtle flowers for they were her sacred flowers. He displayed chocolate bonbons wrapped in edible paper in the same of doves and swans.

He taught Silena how to make them and showed Drew also when her sister started dragging her to the store.

(What Drew doesn't know was that David had taken one look at her when she was still but a child, with wide haunted, scary emptiness in her eyes and he adopted her as his own. In his heart and he fought like hell with the government to do so legally, but she was placed securely as a ward of the state and it was only a visit from her Mother that soothed that ache. What Drew doesn't know was that she had an equal claim to the stores, written into his will for her to inherit just like Silena because she was his daughter too no matter what a sheet of paper proclaimed.)

And those that were not children of Aphrodite gained a new appreciation for her especially since they learned that the spring-month of April was sacred to her.

(Except Lea because she wasn't dumb enough to underestimate the goddess that had the power to make someone fall in love with a cricket.)

It's after Lea had wiped down the counter four times because someone sneezed more than three times that Drew dragged her away for a small break.

(Lea didn't think anything was wrong with asking them were they really blessed or did they need a doctor? How was she suppose to know that the disinfectant was affecting their sinuses?)

They hide away on the back steps where addicts and homeless people linger. They sigh in the moments of peace that follows them from the frenzy inside the shop even as they pass out boxes of spare treats to those that looked at them.

"Silena and I let a few of them in sometimes. Wash their hair and help them clean themselves up," Drew admitted. "Her Dad even gave a few of them jobs and they're spread out at his other stores around the city and the other boroughs."

And Lea thinks that was nice of them.

"Sometimes I wonder though," Drew sighed, looking towards the sky. "Was it because I was being kind-hearted or was it just a secondary power from Mother? She is the patron goddess of prostitutes and most of them tended to linger in alleyways."

"I think that it's a mixture of both," Lea said after a moment. "You have a big heart, Drew. I think that if it is a secondary power, it just makes you more inclined to help. You care about things... about people more than you think."

Drew hummed, leaning to lay her head on Lea's shoulder. She smelt like a mixture of jasmine, flour, and chocolate.

The two of them sat in silence for a bit longer when Drew broke it once more. "Did you know you can overnight ship live campbell spiders to people houses for like 60 to 100?"

Lea laughed, "Well to everyone that have ever done me wrong, I want my apologies written in MLA format with 12 point font in Times New Roman by this time tomorrow."

"Would you actually read them," Drew asked.

"Gods no," Lea snorted. "I don't read anything that doesn't actually interest me."

"But you read about Hermes," Drew pointed out.

Lea kept silent.

"You read his hymns all the time and you recite them under your breath whenever you're in the middle of a flashback. You fill the dorm room tub up after a nightmare and you go submerge yourself in it, filling it with crocus petals and palm leaves and strawberry bubble bath because those are his sacred plants."

"Where are you going with this?"

"I think you care about people... about him more than you think also."

And when they weren't helping around Sweet On America, Lea found herself hiding away in Usnavi's bodega. She had been thankful that they hadn't mentioned anything when she informed them of Trent's betrayal.

"Nsotras debemos seguir moviéndonos," Vanessa had only pressed a kiss to her forehead, murmuring into her hair. "dolerá al principio, pero aprenderemos a llevarlo."

Lea supposed she understood in an abstract way. No betrayal but she understood what it was like to lose someone that you had loved like family. Even if she didn't lost Trent to death, but to his own choices.

April does not end with a bang, but with an understanding of herself that Lea hadn't had since the moment she saw Trent on that mountain.

Somewhere in there, Annabeth sits them down. Well, she sat Percy down. Lea just happened to be at their apartment that day alongside Drew when she decided to have the conversation.

She admits that she and her siblings were technically Athena's foster children. She was their patron. Their foster mother. Their birth parents were either the goddess of victory, Nike, or some of the Nikai. Most of them were children of Diomedes, the epionogi greek hero from the trojan war. Some were even children of Hercules. In a way, they were similar to the Hunters of Artemis. Whenever Athena saw a mortal that she favored, she sent Nike or Diomedes their way or she went to her sisters, Artemis and Eileithyia, to bless them with a child. Their godly parent signed over all divine rights to Athena so when they're born, any gifts or skills that they have comes from her only.

It made more sense than brain children to Lea since she understood how adoption and fostering worked.

(And she saw how it ate at Annabeth and Percy's bleeding heart ached for his friend so Lea swallowed back any comments that she would have made.)

She opened herself up more to her friends, going on all kinds of trips with her friends and using her mageia to slip out after curfew. The four of them were climbing the walls of the Grand Canyon at night, defacing Mount Rushmore with paint saying to return the mountain to the Natives, and placed makeup over the sculptures before continuing on their way. They found a few titan bases and fought against the monsters whenever they came across them.

"Why did we give Drew explosive arrows again," Lea mused watching as the younger girl set off five in rapid succession.

"I believe its because of her new motto," Alabaster said, watching as Ethan watched her with heart eyes. "'If explosives don't solve it use more'."

Lea grimaced, "And to think she was suppose to be our diplomat."

Honestly, Lea didn't know why she thought it would be different.

May sees to Hermes appearing before her dorm room while she listened to music and waited for Drew to come back from training with Apollo.

(The sessions had actually improved her already deadly skill with a bow and arrow and Drew was on face track to becoming the captain.)

She raised a brow at seeing him dressed up and her second one joined the first when she noticed that he held shopping bags in his hands.

"Didn't we talk about gifts," she asked rhetorically, sitting up to accept what she rightly assumed to be new clothes. A big baggy and form fitting, contradictive just the way she liked them. She was starting to care more about her appearance now that she had someone who had an outfit for even the slightest thing.

(What the hell was even a Forest and Mountain Survival with Semi-Unfortunate Cannibalism outfit? Who even had an outfit for that?)

The god had shrugged, looking around the dorm as she held a pair of black combat boots in her hand. It would never not be weird that they just knew things about her without her saying anything about it like her shoe size. But she understands the silent request he was making and she slid into the bathroom to change while noting that he was looking over the translations books on their shared desk. The two girls alongside Percy and Annabeth had been learning spanish and french and Drew taught them a bit of japanese. The four of them tended to switch between a weird mix of Spanglish and Frespañol in result of it. Percy taught them a bit of latin that he remembered from Yancy Academy which she added to because well, a lot of spells were in latin and it was kind of fun to walk around catholic churches and chant in latin.

(The first time she did it, Alabaster had conjured a bit of black smoke while she pretended to smacked her lips together when the priest threw holy water at her. "Thank you. I was bit parched," she had said. Probably the most fun she had ever had with religious people.)

The two of them had quickly found themselves away from the dorm, and when she looked around, she couldn't help but to raise a brow at him.

"A date," she asked.

His cheeks turned red just a bit before shaking his head. "This is not a date."

(Lea felt a bit of disappointment that left as quick as it came.)

"You brought me to the Rooftop Cinema Club in Midtown. Its only the two of us."

"Not true," Hermes countered. "Apóllōn, Huákinthos, and Drew should be around here somewhere."

"Sooo you're having Drew fifth-wheel?"

And she knew those were the wrong words to use as he turned to her with a teasing grin. "You know I'm starting to think that you want this to be a date."

What.

"I mean, I don't know if you've noticed, but you keep flirting with me. You get flustered every time I flirt back. You want me to like you. You have promised to dream of me even when I visit your dreams every night. Are you mayhap attracted to me, Leaneíras?"

What the fuck.

Leaneira chuckled as she side stepped him. "Alright, calm down, dude. Let's not get ahead of ourselves."

She turned back towards him when she didn't sense him following only to realize that he was staring at her. Lea looked over herself before remembering the thoughts that he had towards her when their minds were still connected from her ill-thought spell. Her long, dark hair fell across one of her shoulders in a single plait where the white streak was artistically prominent. Black halter top that showed off her smooth midriff and the abs that she was gaining because Percy was like a drill sergeant in when it came to her gaining muscles now that her physical therapy allowed for more strenuous activity.

And yet he stared at her as if she was walking the runway.

She was thankful when Drew and the others showed up.

She was also amused to see that she and Drew were dressed similar yet opposite. Drew dressed in a way that emphasized her beauty nd her love of jewelry: a white halter top that showed off her tanned shoulders and smooth midriff, and a short jean skirt. Around her neck was her bow charm and the pendant that Ethan gave her for her birthday. Her hair was pinned up in mess of curls.

She did not look like she had been training at all.

"Sorry, we're late," her friend said. "I had to change."

"And you spent about half an hour searching through trunks of clothes to wear and another thirty minutes just prepping to get dressed," Apóllōn snorted. Drew smiled at him. "While it takes no effort to look this good, I still like to go above and beyond my best looks to remind the world that I look better than them."

Lea loved that cocky bitch. That was her bestfriend!

Hermes moved over to them, laughing lightly at the fact that Lea was shortest of them all since Drew had on heeled boots. "Sometimes I forget how much of a short stack you are."

"Short enough to take out your kneecaps."

"You have to be taller than said knees."

The others laughed and Lea rolled her eyes playfully. "I need new friends."

"And I'll end all of them," Drew scoffed. "Straight up dog walk them."

Apóllōn snorted. "Ignore her. She's short and squeaks. All you have to do is step on her." That was especially funny since he was currently the tallest out of all of them.

Lea couldn't help but to laugh and she wondered how long it had been since she laughed so genuinely and freely. Lea wanted to believe that she did find joy in the few things that she cared for, but she also wondered if the last time had been when she was nothing more than a child with a bleeding heart that life couldn't help but to tear into. "That reminds me of when I first started at B.A.G. there was this girl that had tried to bully me. Before they realized that I was going to give as good as I got of course. But Drew had appeared and she was like the Queen Bee of the school and told them that if they didn't leave me alone then she was going to dogwalk them and their friends. It like scared them so bad that they told their parents."

Drew was groaning, a bit of embarrassment on her face that was hidden away by a lot of smugness.

"So some of the girls' moms come to the school wanting to talk about how bullying was wrong and how the girl had been so depressed behind Drew's words and how they wanted Drew to apologize and take anti-bullying seminars and stuff. Drew had just looked at them and left then she made this model. And I'm talking actually going into sculpting class and making a whole sculpture of a girl walking a bunch of dogs except the dogs had human faces and clothes. She painted it to look like herself then she did the girls and their Mothers and made little nametags so that everyone could know who was who. Found their address and mailed it to their house. And to top it all off, when the parents came back make complaints, Drew ended up win first place in a sculpting competition that she hadn't even signed up for to begin with."

Drew flipped her hair over her shoulder as they took their seats. "What can I say? I'm talented."

"Sweet Gaia, you are your Mother's daughter," Hermes laughed.

They quiet down and Lea found herself falling in love with Iron Man. She found herself relating to Tony Stark. A person that was so wrapped in their own life that they didn't care about the world around them until they were forced to by the betrayal of someone they considered family. She found herself rooting for him as she tried to better himself and she knew that he would face setbacks in the future but the simple fact that he was trying made her heart bleed for him. She cried and she raged as she watched him fight for control of his own damn life; control that he lost because he hadn't cared when it was stolen away. She cursed more when she saw the wannabe James Bond standing in the dark of his house that he had just been attacked in. Who even did that to a person with PTSD and a heart condition?

When it was all said and done, Lea turned to look at Hermes and said, "You know if you're really trying to impress me, you'd let me meet his actor. RDJ, right?"

"Oh, he's my son," Apóllōn piped up. Lea's eyes darted around them to see if anyone heard what he said until she realized that there was a thin layer of mist covering the five of them.

Of course he was. Why not.

"And when you a bit stronger and have more control over your mageia," Hermes said, no doubt remembering the abysmal control that she now had since her blackout on the mountain. "There is a spell and a potion that can transport you into shows and comics and you can meet Tony Stark. Just think of it as alternate reality."

"Sounds fake," Lea mused and Drew nodded beside her.

"Well it isn't," Hermes countered as they all began to leave. And because Lea was sure that shame was not a word in his vocabulary, "I go into different worlds all time. It's a bit easier since I am the god of roads and travelers able to transverse into any world or realm that I pleased. In fact, I found one where the two of us were married and we had twins with the cutest little eyes and button noses and—"

"How do you feel about choking," Lea interrupted, an almost seductive twist to her lips.

They all watched as his brain shut down and rebooted in real time. The way that he was the one to flush and splutter, green eyes wide in shock. Lea skipped away, arm and arm with Drew and Apóllōn while Hyakinthos stayed behind to help him calm down. "I didn't mean it sexually," Lea assured them. "I meant that I would knock him unconscious."

And she felt smug when the golden-god threw his head back in a laugh.

(Behind them, Hermes turned to look at his brother-in-law: "I am about to drink holy water like its sprite. There is nothing pure about my thoughts right now. Poseidón is going to castrate me.")

Lea should get a pin made. Part-time soulmates. Full-time problem.

The other two catch up as they neared Brooklyn Academy of the Gifted. The power of alien-gods meant a lot to Lea. "What are your plans now," Hyakinthos asked, easily stepping into his blessing's embrace as if he had never left.

Lea shrugged. "Try to survive finals and hopefully the 'gods' present company included allow me to have a boring and hopefully normal summer at Camp."

The gods laughed, and Lea noted that they made no promises. Lea inwardly sighed. Well, there went her plans.

"The archery club will have a booth for orientation," Drew during the last week of school. "We're going to be looking for new recruits coming in for freshman year."

That's right. Since Drew was already on the varsity team (and was good enough to play for the high school despite being in middle school), they had a few spots that were going to open due to seniors graduating. Drew, for all her people skills, had thrown herself into getting more participants.

"Lea is going to help me," Drew said and Lea blinked.

"I never said that."

"Oh, I thought that french test that I snuck and—"

"Fine," Lea grumbled.

One day, Lea will manage to out talk her.

One day.

COMMENTS FROM THE AUTHOR:

1) Every time I look at this fic and how much love it gets, I smile because at one point, I had put this story on hold and never looked at it again. It was very stagnant. There was no life to it and very plotless. Lea was just there, not contributing to anything and because she was just there as an accessory, I couldn't find a way to progress her relationship with Hermês and now look at it. Look at them.

2) I'm so proud. Heads up! We're heading into BoTL which means we're setting up for HoO and we also get Percy's soulmark which really sets the tone for HoO.

3) We have a special appearance in this arc too. :)

4) That is my own personal head canon for the Athena's kids. I'm so sorry, but I just cannot do the whole brain kids thing. Like Athena had mortals that she favored. She did not have mortals that she godspoused and had kids with.
